Coolest dude ever to hang out with in person. I don't understand why some people deny him the credit he deserves though? One of the hardest working drummers out there. He's always pushing boundaries. The man is a machine, and still keeps all of his stuff very musical. I hope they give him the MD fest metal drummer of the year award!
This video never gets boring to me. I could watch this 24/7 as with every thing else he plays and find it just as exciting as the first time I heard it.
Give JJ a pair of vic firth in a concert i bet he'll break them between 4th and 5th minute of his warm up... George's technique is just beyond! who can play that fast and gentle?
Best drummer ever for the death metal I used to match this on drums before I lost my right leg from the knee down ..but I was thankful to have fun trying to reach that level I hit 280 bpm ...well George lol thanks man good times I had taking your songs and playing along with em when I developed enough endurance and speed on the drums back then
This video caused me to study and learn the swivel kick to get faster on my kicks, and I fucking thank you. I now have a great speed and also makes slower tempos a lot easier than any other techniques I play. You've been an inspiration since 2008, and I thank you George
This is incredible George.. I love watching and listening to you play! No wonder you're my favorite drummer! I have your solo album " Invictus" , which I listen to every day.
there's always talk about "who's faster" or "who's better" when it comes to metal or extreme drumming. I don't play that game, I just know that George is an absolute machine and really shows what's possible when it comes to speed, control and stamina. he's not my favourite drummer, but I really, really appreciate what he's capable of and how he goes about his playing. Rock on George!
Metal drumming at its fucking best and baddest!!!!!!!!!!!! Speechless mind blowing speed control timing technique balance well done! Boys and Girls watch and learn. I have been playing drums for 18 years and I have never ever heard any human play like this! When I heard this track i was convinced it was a drum machine looping over until I saw the video. Im a big fan now i must get back to practise thank u for the inspiration George.
I don't know what's the most unnerving about all of his performance... The speed, how in synch it is with the rest of the music, how fluid the transitions are... I just don't know. All I know is I'll probably never get even close to it my whole life!
That's the nice thing about metal videos; there tends to be a far higher amount of musically open minded people than other genres :) Metal is amazing, but metal being amazing doesn't discredit other genres. And Kollias is, of course, a legend.
I love Kollias and Roddy the same, both are insane, but I have no idea why people compare the the drummer of Slipknot with these two.I bet either can play his hardest set at double speed and slipknots drummer who struggle to play eithers set at half speed.
Hey everyone. Check this interview we did with George Kollias. He was kind enough to spend an evening with us and answer some questions. Part 1: /watch?v=63HR3XZznIA Part 2: /watch?v=AaHaID87BpM
@Lycanpaester, George has addressed this a lot of times. When he started using the swivel motion he hurt his knees so he went to see several different doctors that told him that the motion is bad for the knees and I believe he said two doctors suggested to minimize the motion. So he uses the swivel motion but he doesn't overdo (or tries not to) so he doesn't hurt his knees. There's more but I think that sums it up pretty neatly.
What a rare event, hearing such crispy, powerful blastbeats played in this tempo and with a single foot... The opening (ending) riff is atmospheric and delicious as well. So really, i'd love George to record a musical solo/independent project like Derek Roddy with Serpents Rise did it previously! So much arousing potential for that, as proven by this video =)!
Omg George I thought I'd seen every video but nope I watch this and as always every hair on my body stands up your fills ,rolls and those bionic feet are why you are the best death metal drummer that has ever live I saw you live when you came to Portland Oregon and I simply drooled watching you I was speechless I went right home and tried to play anything of what I witnessed well needless to say I wasn't even close but being 55 you give me the drive and desire to be the best drummer I can be thank you for everything you share you are God's gift to death meatal Hail GK
@thesyllekattacks sorry for double post but I think i found it, He uses 13" and 14" hats and has 1/2 closed 12" mini hats so that 4th pedal is probably a remote pedal for (my guess) the 13" hats, but could possibly be to the 12s as well.
@Benteiron, hahah well coming from a 16 year old who stands toe-to-toe with Kollias, it pushes human endurance and fitness. The "gift" that Derek Roddy, George Kollias, I, and others have, is actually a collaburation of "quick-reacting muscles" (not going into scientific terms). Basically, we have quick muscles, and ontop of that, to get a beat that fast, the signal doesn't travel to your brain, It just goes to your spine where the auto-reflex sends back the message. :p
@popytherev I am working on kicking and blasting at 260 bpm right now but just like you were saying what works for him may not work for someone else. I only keep my beaters about 3 1/4 or 4 inches from my heads. And I keep a loose to medium tension in the pedals ( demons ). If you can just sit with a metronome and practice your feet individually to a click and you'll get so much faster so quickly. I try and do it 3-6 times a week on my feet and may hands and it is almost effortless now
it's a balance thing, above about 230bpm it's pretty much no one's feet are going perfectly up and down on every single stroke, and the feet start swiveling back and forth so you can keep them from drifting too much in one direction and sliding off the peddles, hence the name "swivel technique"
The section with the tom/china orchestration is downright evil. The double bass is vicious. Very enjoyable performance! Remindes me than I need new universal joints for my double pedal. Mine are tortured and toasted from my metal days....
lol definitely not heel-toe. crazy-mad control bro, you have most definitely given me a new goal, which is as follows: play half as fast as you, then MAYBE get up to your 240-ish bpm 32nd notes lol. also, every time you hit the snare on 3 along with the track, it makes me think that your snare is slowly bringing about the end of days, and I CAN'T GET ENOUGH!!! lol. love it.
"Aeons of Burning Calories"
right man
xd
loooool

alot of jealousy out there..............
Because the metal world is full of judgy gatekeepers
This video never gets boring to me. I could watch this 24/7 as with every thing else he

I love watching this dude play ...I'm not even a drummer, but it inspires me to practice my instrument (guitar) to reach another level.

DRUMMER
PERIOD
you have a commitment to metal drumming that is more than inspirational, please keep positively changing the air pressure around us all with your art.
I watched this video back in 2008. I was the 229th viewer. Wow this video took off!
One of the big advantage GK have is that he doesn't have to pay for copyrights to protect his songs: no one can ever play them :)
Give JJ a pair of vic firth in a concert i bet he'll break them between 4th and 5th minute of his warm up... George's technique is just beyond! who can play that fast and gentle?
beast mode..I'm speechless
just threw my drums out the fuckin window
Yup.
Aye. Bah.
We all have.
I was just pondering that exact sentiment... 😢lol

one of the best metal drummers in contemporary scene ....IMHO ....great technique ...awsome !!!
Every time I watch this video, my jaw drops at the stuff he's doing... Inhuman skill...
This is incredible George.. I love watching and listening to you play! No wonder you're my favorite drummer! I have your solo album " Invictus" , which I listen to every day.
he studied jazz and is pretty technical actually. he incorporates it into his drumming and he says he always does to be a better drummer
3 KICK DRUMS!!! That is the most insane shit Ive seen. Insanity, is the only word that can describe the kick drums in this song.
I got exhausted just watching. I don't know how you can keep up that pace. This is the most amazing drumming I've ever seen!
George you are the best!
Always amazing to watch and listen to
Hoping for the next George Kollias - album! My favorite band! Best regards from Norway!
this was, this is, and this will be, for me, the best drums track that exist forever!

Im not a big fan of metal music, but i dont think there is anyone else in the world with that musicality and speed

No one told me that the drumming contest was over already 15 years ago. Congrats George
@Pagnah Creativity, speed and insane power in sync with that speed. You cannot help but admit that that's impressive.

SOO beautiful! time to head to the basment! im not nearly up to speed! HAHA!
I need like 10 lifetimes to play like this!
