- FULL EXTENDED INTERVIEW
Steven Bradbury took time out from the Mount Isa 2030 bid to reflect on the 20 year anniversary of that famous night in Salt Lake City. What does being Australia's first-ever Winter Games Gold Medal winner mean to him?
One month from this interview he saved four teenage girls who were drowning at a beach. True Aussie Ledgend.
99.9999% of us would not even be able to be good enough to compete in the olympics. This dude deserves that gold.
Best gold medal ever 🏅
Absolutely the best gold ❤
20 years ago I watched the final live at night! I live in Latvia and have no any connection to Australia, but I was very happy for Steven that night! Me and my mom still recall that miracle win with excitement! What a humble guy you are, Steve!
Amazing story. I showed my kids your story and I told them "You see what happens when you never give up? You win. You always win!" Greetings from Kosovo ❤️
This is one of the best interviews I’ve seen. Very entertaining to watch Bradbury speak and the interviewer was excellent and picked great questions to ask. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yes. I haven't seen it before. It's brilliant
epic Steve. great interview! As a Brisbane lad, i'll never forget that moment, we were so stoked for you, and to know what you went through just to get there was testimony enough.well deserved and if i ever bump into you, i'll shout you a beer also.
One time after obsessing over a company I wanted a job at for a year and a half, I wrote a comment on a blog and the CEO of the company replied to ask me if I wanted to do a collaboration.
I’m just now realizing I did a Bradbury.
Watching this from Wales…amazing story, great interview, cracking guy 🙌🙌
Great interview, very well articulated conversation and lots of interesting insight shed on his backstory. Thanks for this!
As an American, I have never been sad at that loss simply because that was the most epic thing I’d ever seen. I cheered for Australia in that moment 😂 He deserved that medal.
Certainly the most memorable gold medal win - but definitely well-deserved! I loved this interview 💚💛
Steven Bradbury was a deserved winner! He did what he had to do, and was in the right place at the right time. Legend!
This is a good response. Dude knew he didn't have the speed with those others, but knew he deserved to be there. His strat worked.
Bugger that .... CELEBRATE ! Won fair & square
What a good person! Great interview.
Luck is where preparation and opportunity briefly meet. Dude is a proper legend now 👍🏼
Go Steve, I have the leather sewing machine that made your Gold winning skates. I love that fact.
Bradbury, Bradman, Warnie, Lillee your name Fits in well with these Aussie Legends...Well Bloody Done
Great interview complete with flies.
I'm here after watching the Matildas. Just so proud of Aussies. I'm a kiwi BTW lols
Absolute Legend
True and that's all part of the competition. i.e. staying within the rules and avoiding disasters. The more you push the limits, break rules and take risks, the higher the probability of a catastrophic outcome or success, compared to staying out of trouble. It can go either way. Bradbury was lucky and his strategy defied the odds of success, when cruising in the back row, which would normally not result in victory. However as mentioned, that doesn't discount the years of hard work and sacrifice to get to an international final of an elite sport and being positioned to take advantage of unexpected situations which can arise, particularly in ice skating.
He seems like the nicest guy to ever have existed. It wasnt luck that won him the gold, it was 100% karma.
What a great bloke !
A hero of mine and im not even close to be australian.
I just did a Bradbury 🤩, won’t go into details but definitely a ‘Bradbury’.
Who crossed the finish line first? Enough said.
Steven Bradbury is the definition of never throwing in the towel.
His leg was severely cut by another skater's blade from his previous competition. That accident taught him better on how to win the race. When he finally recovered, he joined another tournament.
This time, he let himself fall far behind while the others skated as fast as they could. When his opponents slipped one by one, that's where he maxed out his speed and finished the race.
In speed skating, your finishing momentum should be stronger and faster than your starting one because you'll slip and lose your balance when you start off too strong.
He deserved the medal. It was won with strategy.
Great bloke!
Yeah. As honest and humble as you can be.
The best gold medal ever ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just found out about 'doing a Bradberry' and the story is amazing😂
We must never forget that at that moment in time, Steven was the 5th fastest speed skater in the entire world.
He wasn’t. But a series of luck in quarterfinals and semifinals got him to the finals. But it is also a story of doing your best and never give up.
Poetry ❤

Whatta Playya!
So he hung out with john who helped orchestrate port arthur. Gross
WTF? Are you insinuating John Howard was the cause of Port Arthur?
