I managed to save this video before the last uploader either deleted it or took it down. Some priceless commentary from Roy & HG and their 2000 Sydney Olympic segment called The Dream.
These guys are known for their 'improv' ability and, as we see here, making up effectively a new improvised commentary based on the sport's language/jargon, and in typical dry Aussie wit. Think of the commentary like 'fanking'... everything is based around "that" area.
Excuse the poor quality - we really weren't in a high-def age back then (20+ years ago)
Edit: I've rectified the utter garble that the CC was putting out... never seen so much rubbish generated by an "artificial intelligence". It's probably because the AI is American; naturally doesn't understand one Aussie speaker, let alone two. Anyway that's fixed now, and I've altered the text as best as I can to fit the timings (and the commentary as well).

This was some of Roy and HG's best work. Very original and extremely funny.
The IOC in their infinite wisdom have decided that they want to claim copyright on this content, which is fair I suppose, but I'm not taking it down. This is vintage funnies from legendary commentators, and to remove it would be an injustice and a disservice to those who remember the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It doesn’t feel like 20 years ago. Roy and HG were the best commentators. Absolute Aussie humour at its best. Our country isn’t this much fun anymore. Said he, having moved to Scotland. You know what I mean anyway. This is Australia when it was still Australia. Made me very, very happy to see this. Please don’t let IOC take it away. Roy and H G, did such a great job in 2000. Their gymnastics commentaries were gold, and the romance of Greco-Roman wrestling. Their footy commentary was awesome, too. Remember Club Buggery?😂

Nobody has ever called an Olympics, or any other sporting event like Roy and HG.......and it was a time when Australians still actually sounded like Australians.
I used to love listening to their commentary of the grand finals. Would have me in stitches - would never listen to the actual broadcast.

thanks mate. yeah the IOC still deem this as "their content" because it was their event, and I'm just the re-uploading host. but I won't let that take away from the glorious humour of these classic comedians.
@@STAG162 The IOC does make me laugh. After the way that they handled the Tokyo postponement, you would think that they would have more important things to worry about than a 6 minute RUclips video. It does make you wonder. Keep posting your videos mate. I love them.

I don't think you'd find too many from the Sydney 2000 Olympics wanting to hark on their performances, but some younger and more modern gymnasts would already be familiar with the terminology these boys came up with. no doubt, they're thinking about the battered sav, flat bag and hello boys every time they land. =)

So who did take down most of the Roy and HG videos on RUclips? That includes some not related to the olympics.
I've no idea, but I believe it's at the discretion of the uploaders of those videos, not necessarily RUclips taking them down. I've had this up for about 4 years and while the IOC claim it's their content (fair dues), I haven't heard boo about people being told to take down Roy & HG content.

hahaha, no actually, although I can see where you're coming from (having never watched SNL or been invested enough into American TV). this was a special airing of two legendary Aussie comedians/commentators that provided their own unique and hilarious spin on Olympics commentary. The Dream was a special network-only segment, only aired during the 2000 Olympics.
You can count the pixels on one hand
yeah in those days TV broadcasts were only Standard Definition. HD didn't come till years after.
