- Australian comedy duo John Doyle and Greig Pickhaver took what was a dead slot in late-night television and turned it into a must-see part of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
A look back at Roy and HG's The Dream. It's the live show that brought to life their own Olympics mascot, Fatso the Fat-Arsed wombat and the hilarious gymnastic commentating.
The Dream was a Channel 7 production, 2000.

I didnt watch any of the olympic coverage.....but I DID watch every second of Roy and HG's The Dream
Legends. Still listening to the podcast of their weekly radio show in 2023. Long may they reign.
I laughed so hard I had tears in my eyes all the way through this video. It brought back some great memories. These two guys are wonderful together!
Dutch wink, Battered Sav brilliant. I really miss this time in Australian history. Roy and HG really made the Sydney Olympics something special at a time when people were getting cynical of the Olympics. I also miss the more relaxed Australia of that era. We need more taking the piss than less of it in this time of PC culture. I miss when taking the piss was taken in the right way. The aussie way. I miss when people weren't so easily offended and didn't go looking for a reason to be offended. I miss when we all had a laugh at ourselves and we didn't take everything so seriously. I miss the days of she'll be right mate, cmon lets make a go of it. But who knows what the future will bring I for one am hopeful that the next generation of Roy and HG's will keep taking the piss and keep this part of aussie culture alive.
My favorite joke from the boys was when New Zealand won their first gold medal in the rowing. All they could say was New Zealand doing what they do best sitting down and going backwards
Fantastic time, memorable time, just been looking back on these highlights laughing my head off, wish you guys were still on. 👍👏👏👏
This was an awesome time in Australia.
pure gold

God I loved the Sydney Olympics 2000. Not for the athletes but for Roy and HG😂

Love these guys💜✝️🛐💜thank you!
good times
I always wanted to hear what Wendy Harmer & Charles Pickering (whoever he is) thought about The Dream. Somehow it clarifies everything for me and I don't have to bother thinking for myself. That's why I love the ABC.
Oh come on - everyone knows Pickers !!
Hello boys!
When the open ceremony happen I turned 9yrs old in Sydney 2000, I wasn't allowed to Roy and HG, but boy they are funny particularly the Gymnastics and the Fatso the fat arse wombat.
"Crazy date"
I had the best time of my life having the privilege of playing Fatso in the Channel 7 chat channel. My favourite exchange being "Are you the real fatso"? My reply... "Of course not, wombats can't type".. Whoever asked that, you were you're a dead set legend mate. Cheers!
