My dad used to say "I've done so much, with so little, for so long; now, I can do practically anything with nothing at all" I love you used everything including the old nails :)
I’ve heard that same saying before. The version I know was on the bulletin board in the operations control room at the power plant where I used to work. It went, “we the willing, led by the unknowing, have been doing the impossible for the ungrateful, with so little for so long, we now feel that we can do anything with nothing.”
Your craftsmanship is second to none. I've got three from my great grandparents when they came to America in 1890 or so. I've thought about restoring them to display in the bedrooms at the lake house. You're giving me a motivation here. And, it's all from pallet lumber huh? I particularly am impressed with the metal working skills. You remind me of my father. He was an industrial arts teacher and built all kinds of things.
I totally agree with you a joy to watch and one of my favorites as well. It is like the wood slats talk to him and walla a piece of art and amazing craftmanship in the end.
Since I was eight years old I was carving statues for pass time and gave it away because it was not popular for girls to work with wood 50 years ago My last name says oak in French and I never changed it. I love watching the reverence you have with your work. I'm very old now and can't do wood work any more and I love to watch your work over & over again. I have statues in churches.

A lovely example of a Victorian dome-topped travel trunk. Clever imitation of the brass/leather banding and very nice metal-reinforcing on the corners. If you want to use it as a clothes press (a traditional use for retired trunks), then you'll need to line it with either a good quality paper (the Victorians often used end papers or thick, high-end newspapers) or a sturdy fabric such as canvas or even baize. Alternatively, your excellent hinging enables the trunk to be opened flat against a wall, so it could perform great service as a book cabinet or even a media centre with a flatscreen TV in the lid. Many things you could do with it. Brilliantly recycled as always! Fabulous creativity.
Didn’t go to Lowe’s or Home Depot- no you made your own hasp-you are amazing, man. You are a joy to watch- What do you do with all the stuff you make? Great job!!!!
The odd grain in places, a couple pieces put together to make the right length, used nails, and you attention to detail makes this trunk a work of art. Thanks for the video.
It’s the patients and the attention to detail that gets me there’s not many, that would take the time to make their own hardware for their projects.. but that tub of nails though! That’s just epic lol! :)x
Once again i am stunned at your beautiful result with the simplest tools and procedures and supplies! This video is all about your talent. I think you make it look easy because of experience. cheers!
Your work sure is EPIC, and absolutely stunning. Your wife must be so proud of you, making all these beautiful wooden pieces, and from re-cycled wood. If my hubby could do any woodworking I would be shouting from the rooftops, “look what he made” so I can imagine the pride your wife feels. It’s a beautiful chest, really beautiful, whoever it goes to, are so lucky. Xxx
A craftsman at work is a joy to behold. I started off thinking that this might be a project I could do, but it lost me at the metalwork. Still, was nice to see a thing of beauty being created. And...from palletwood! Kinda blows my mind.
I was on pins and needles watching you masterfully notch that thin lath to accommodate the even thinner lath strapping. One might say your craftsmanship is a notch above the rest.
I work for a recycling project and go to construction sites and collect waste timber/pallets, so I have, myself, made a few things (tables, planters, shelves...) out of scrap wood, but what you do is absolutely impressive. You really take it to the next level. Craftsmanship at its very best. Hats off to you

WHAT A GREAT JOG ON THE TRUNK YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME INTO GETTING BACK IN TO MY SHOP AND BUILDING A TRUNK, IVE BEEN WANTING TO DO ONE FOR A LONG TIME. This was amazing. The metal fabrication was genious. From some unused pallet wood a hundred year old trunk is created. Anyone would like to be the proud owner of this. Very well done Sir.
My dream is to make a projec like this but i Don't have a havy mesine to do this job...i very like to do this projec i hope before i die my dream to feel this dream Will happen to me..
I went on my first mission trip to Cuba in the summer of 2013. The Cuban pastor is a Jack-of-all-trades, pastor, mason, carpenter, furniture maker, farmer, and machinist. I took him a welding machine in 2019 so now he is a welder too. I digress, however, Pastor Benito always had a pocket full of old nails, screws, bolts, washers, whatever he found or removed from something else. Nothing, absolutely nothing, was thrown away. Seeing you cut those nails made me think of Benito and my epiphany that I threw things away, not because they were worn out but because I had plenty of nails and screws that did not require me to straighten or shorten. Such a waste. Love your work. Darlington, South Carolina
Amazing work, but you make it look so easy. I have some steam trunks from the 19th century that resemble yours, but now, after seeing the thought behind the design, and the amount of skillful work behind the process to manufacture them, I love them more than ever. Thank you for making us aware of the value of cratsmanship, and thank you for sharing your artistry with us. Cheers
The only, ONLY thing I would have done differently is to use either screws or through-bolts to hold the side handles on. People will tend to pick up the loaded chest by those handles, pulling the nails right out. Through-bolts, with a wooden gusset on the inside would solve that problem. Nice build. Thanks for the video. Jon
Absolutely fantastic! This is REAL crafting/fabrication. I especially liked the part @2:55 where you use the sets of small wedges and large wood to make the work of many clamps. Educational and inspirational. Thank you very much for sharing.
My favorite artist!! I look in awe as I see pure junk turned into stunning beauty. I admire your skills and artistic talents. Keep giving us more art pleasure!!!
I took a look at both chests. Both are so super cool. I like the one with the copper best. Both are very elaborate and very well made. They will certainly last an eternity. Thank you very much
From the first moment I saw this video I was speechless, I can see the passion and love for wood. If I had a garage i will do the same, not this level of course😅, I love videos like this when people create art from garbage. Respect!🎩🍷
I take every nail, screw, piece wood, and many other things that I find on streets. Like you Like to recycle everything. I am impressed by your talents.
i made allot of my furniture out of discarded pallets from the company that i worked at after moving out of my parents house when i was a teenager...miss those times!
Thank you so much for sharing. I was taking a large shipping skid apart last month from a large CNC machine and the whole time was fantasizing about what stunning things you could make out of it. Another great build! Have this one marked in case I ever get around to building the chest I want. Just one small, very humble tip I would offer: I overwhelmingly work with metal as a hobby (car resto, blacksmithing, ect). I find it easier to drill holes in thin metal then cut it out because it seems to greatly reduce the chances of a small piece to distort, 'grab' the bit, and wrap around- effectively destroying the piece in some cases. That said- I can't even compare to your skill level, so if it works for you, forget I am speaking! :)
one of your best builds
My dad used to say "I've done so much, with so little, for so long; now, I can do practically anything with nothing at all" I love you used everything including the old nails :)

What a great saying. I'm writing that down right now.
The god of palettes and rusty nails.... he did it again!!!
Out of all.... absolutly great job!!! Love it!!! ❤
Love the sunburst grain on the end panel of the lid, I’m thinking that didn’t happen by chance
*This chest doesn't need a treasure inside, it is a treasure itself*
*GORGEOUS* 👏🤩

No talking. No music. Great talent.
Thanks Michele :)
Nice to see someone using proper panel pins and a plane, lovely job
Again, the patience of a saint and a true creative artist. Amazing talent. The metal work is outstanding.

Nice work! One thing I suggest side handles need to be a section higher, so center of gravity will be under the handles.
