  • Our GT86 recently went to Listers Toyota Coventry for its 120,000 Mile service, while it was getting sorted they very kindly let me take the GR Supra, GR86, and GR Yaris over to Caffeine and Machine to see how they all compare to one another as well as how they feel against our high mileage and well loved GT86.

    Really great review! I chose my 2023 FA24 BRZ manual for its completely analog - seat of the pants personality. Fun and feel good factor in spades... but just not splitting grin quick.. HOWEVER today I collected my car from the mechanical massage therapist and drove home through the twisties with that grin firmly etched in place!! 300hp at the wheels courtesy of a HARROP SUPERCHARGER really unleashes the full potential of a truly wonderful platform!

    GR Yaris with an intake for all the wooshy turbo noises, a seat lowering kit, and an exhaust is the perfect setup in my opinion. It is just ridiculously fun. The speed you can carry through a roundabout in it is mind boggling.

      Exhaust also definitely needed. Stock sounds 💩

    I wonder if the Yaris’ appeal would be sustainable. It’s a neat party trick - but coming from a guy that used to own a 2016 focus RS, you find that heroic performance on the street soon becomes boring unless you want to shatter the law every time you get behind the wheel. And mind you, I’m not just saying exceed the speed limit, I mean obliterate it.
    In contrast, having owned a 2013 & 2018 brz and now a 2022 gr86, I think it’s brand of fun will keep you coming back for more.
    You can hoon if you like - but it asks driver skill of you. It’s also fun to occasionally yaw around a low speed turn now and again.
    Plus your seating position is near perfect (better than the 981 boxster I owned concurrently for a year).

    This was a very refreshing watch, it’s nice to listen to someone talk normal for a change without all the hype switched on constantly. I used to own a GT86 which I adored, had it from new and left it completely stock. Very fun car that you really could use all the power of all the time. Actually got myself a manual Supra from the lovely people at Listers in Lincoln and I’m over the moon with it, it’s a very different animal that you have to be more considerate with but the manual is really what made me want one. Do miss my GT86 and wish I could have kept it. Not yet had a go in a GR86 or the GR Yaris but hope to one day. But if a Toyota fan boy.

    Ex GT86 & BRZ owner and have same dilema to get into a GR86. They spoil you with that low COG feeling that when you try other cars such as an M2 they feel like heavy pigs..Your review told me more about the difference in driving feel for the Supra & 86 than many other so called car journalists have conveyed in the last few years 👏

    That was a great review bud 😊 I currently have a 2020 M340i (Supra Sedan, but xDrive)..... and I agree, the B58 Supra/BMW is great at going fast..... but as I get older, I'm thinking I'd like something lighter and NOT so fast.... one of the most fun cars I have ever driven (and I've had 18 cars in 33 years of driving, including Evo's, an R35 GTR, HSV V8 and even a brand new ML63 AMG) was my brothers 2001 stock standard Corolla Hatch. FWD with no power, but it was light and rowing the manual gearbox was a joy. So, now I'm thinking about something light and something from Japan i.e. GR Yaris, GR86/BRZ or an FL5 Civic Type R. Cheers Don, Perth W.Australia (Dons Shed and Xplor Overland)

    I have a GR86 and test drove the Supra and GR86 back to back. Couldn't agree more, the GR86 is hands down a more connected and engaging driving experience, way more smiles per gallon than the Supra. Once I got over the quicker 0-60 in the Supra, compared to the 86 it's a very disconnected and vague driving experience, and much less rewarding. If any of these are second weekend cars, go for the 86 hands down, it's the most fun out of all of them! I don't really agree though about having to give the 86 the beans all the time to feel like the Yaris, the 86 is still quite a full on hardcore car that is very hard to drive normally, it wants to go all the time just like the Yaris. Yaris is the best daily/practical car out of the three though, but you sit way too high up.

      Enough bolt-ons to get the GR up to 250-ish to the wheels on pump gas is as much as you could ever want for having all the fun without committing felonies.

      @@chrisginoc- I’m sure that makes it more engaging, but it’s still a heavy GT. If someone finds a nimble sports car to be the experience they’re looking for, it’s the gr86 and not the Supra (or Corolla / Yaris) that they should buy.

      I own a 23 brz and 23 GR Supra MT and I would have to disagree. Despite the power bump over the previous generation, the GRZ is still a slow car. That alone makes it a worse weekend car compared to the Supra. Yes, it is lighter and is fun throwing it around, but I get much more drama, excitement, and attention from the Supra.

    • @SIIKAP1
      @SIIKAP1 2 месяца назад +2

      @@CuongNguyen-jy9seyeah…it’s hard to actually find enjoyment on backroads anyway without going double the speed limit on them… which is risky. You can have more fun consistently in the Supra

    Very informative video and driving experiences, i own, and love my Abarth 595 scorpioneoro but have a real problem on what to eventually replace it with? both the GR86 and GR Yaris are on my short list, but which do i buy?

    • @takona
      @takona  2 месяца назад +2

      Thank you for the kind words.
      It would entirely depend on what driving experience and use you were after, the yaris would probably closer to the Abarth in how it feels and delivers its power, the 86 would deliver a different dynamic experience along with its lower seating position etc.

    For the Supra. The pass through is always there. The shelf is removable. They are nice cars made by bmw but they have horrendous rattle problems. Mine started the rattles at 400 miles on the odometer and the manual makes it a completely different car. Slower but wayyyyyyyyyyy more fun and connected

    Heh. I have a BRZ and drove the GR Corolla. BRZ is a car that knew exactly what it wanted to be and is fully dedicated to it. Light, agile, fun to drive. GR feels like a very, very powerful grocery getter. It never lets you forget that it was built off of a subcompact economy car, but it's a subcompact economy car with a rocket on its ass. Just absolutely fast.

    • @stms4411

      Not surprising since the Yaris (and corrolla here in the States) is an economy car platform that they’ve modified. The gr86 is a bespoke chassis that was designed and built to be a sports car

    the SUPRA is meant to be driven a speeds well above jail speed
    BUT, it is also a luxury GT cruiser that will get legit 35+ mpg on the highways
    a compromise that neither of the other GR cars can afford
    you can drive a fast car slow, but you can't drive a slow car fast

    What you experienced on the A90 has zero to do with the gear box, that car is very difference and react to speed instead of other random cars. This car actually communicate but in a different way.
