So look closely because there are clues throughout this vid as to just how many weeks I’ve been working on the one!! Hint: I get a refresh on these every 5 weeks 😂
Any guesses?
Your nails? 😆
I also say nails. That was a huge project that gave me the organizational heebee jeebies at the beginning but resolved into lovely harmony by the end. That was like therapy! Good for you seeing it all the way through!
Hard to guess! I was so enjoying the video I didn’t think about time that you spent! You give so much of your self to us, and I’m thanking you for being my Kitchen Teacher, wish we were sharing a cup of coffee and sharing stories here! Thanks for sharing your talents with me, Karen Dirmish Elmhurst Ill
I like both. I love that you invested in this project!
It shows that expensive isn't always where it's at.
Old can can still be cool.
Been there, didn’t do that. At some point in my super thrifty brain, I realized some of the cheap watercolors on Amazon had nice palettes. So yes, I pried them out and then held onto to them for a thousand years until I had to move at which point I threw them out. Which is a mortal sin, if God is a painter.
Glad YOU did this. Now I know that it's absolutely NOT my thing. LOL! It's hard enough carving out time to paint and bridge those creative lull times when I'm trying to climb out of the abyss. Can't imagine investing all this energy into a time-consuming endeavor.
Only you would think of this!!! That’s why I love you!
😂😂😂
I think they are both great but I really love number one. The background really sets off the colors.
Thanks so much! 😊
This was very interesting for me. I feel you can't go wrong with recycling crafting items and see what happens.
Yes I like! Painting #2 is my favorite of these.
😘😘
Thank you for making this paint mixing video so relaxing and therapeutic Kristy. I am sure that you will get a gedillion (?) million of views 😅😊
I hope so!
Number 1. Love the background.
Very interesting but those tiny bowls are stressing me out! They are super cute though.
Love them both - but #2 is my favorite!!
Two is def taking the lead!!
Dear kristy, both are gorjuss! Love the darker moody tones!!❤
Thank you so much!
Both of them is amazing
What a project! With all those pans, it may have been easier and cheaper to make your own bottle of gum Arabic and keep it in the fridge. I make a pint at a time, (with distilled water) complete with clove and orange oil. I love BOTH paintings by the way. Making paint isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s for those who see no boundaries to their creativity.
I like both paintings. 😊 It was very satisfying to see all the pans sorted into colour families. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Kristy, I was having a bad day. This video made me laugh. You are so funny. Thank you so much.
I'm so glad!
Love ‘scadillion’!!!
This was fun to watch. Taking color mixing to a whole other Wow level!!
Brilliant paintings
Lots of work
Really fun project!! I think yay!! You will probably enjoy these colors a alot ..I just love both of your paintings.
This is very interesting watching you work and work at saving these dusty old pigments. Personally, I’d have thrown them away. I’d rather have been painting 😂 Bless you for your efforts 🎉
I get that I do :)
I love # 2.
There are elements in both that I love but overall, I think I like painting 2 better. I really like your background in painting 1 but I think it takes attention away from the bouquet rather than support it. I'm glad you did a second one b/c you got a really good feel for how those paints work and play together and I think that better informed your second piece 😊
It definitely did :)
I love the faded, vintage look of #2. I could not imagine trying this experiment myself, but it sure was interesting, and fun, watching you! I love your collection of vintage palettes. It’s given me the itch for a thrift store run sometime soon. I will be on the hunt! As always, thanks for the inspiration, Kristy!
Go for it!
I would have enjoyed a couple if videos showing the process snd the paintings. I especially love the second painting. I am like you and tend to fill up the whole page life the first one.
This perked my curiosity 😊 I found it interesting
Well thanks so much for watching!
Absolutely successful! I like painting 1
Surprisingly so number 1. Didnt think they would be so vibrant! You go girl.
I adore this so much! Utilizing these and taking the care to conserve their being of use is an honorable task. Mother Earth thanks you! I love both paintings; the second is my favorite. ❤
Wonderful!
I figured it took more than a few days, but wasn't really paying attention to your nails, I was watching the process and the paintings at the end. They both turned out really good, I think the one you painted on the Legion Stonehenge paper I like a little better, it is softer. I think this was successful for sure. A lot of work and bless you for your diligence in making it happen and sharing your process.
I love your personality and ability to think outside the box. You are delightful to watch.
I love your craziness. I love both paintings and I think you are doing a great job in inspiring people all over the world to get into painting without fear. Thank you so much
Thank you so much!
I liked them both, but painting 2 was my favorite. The background on painting one was distracting. Now you've got me thinking about combining all of my old tubes that I never use into pans and see what I can make, or maybe you'll do a video on it first.😂
kristy rice if anyone can do this it would be you!!
Ha well I appreciate your confidence in me!!
You are very brave indeed! I'm not so sure I would have completed this task... you done good! Bring on the FrankenPalette! 🎉 Both pictures have merit... I'm drawn to the background of #1, but enjoy the simplicity and quietness of #2.... Very enjoyable!
Thanks so much!!
Wendy, you expressed my thoughts exactly. Thank you.
My biggest fault is impatience…hubby says I was testd for it and came out were negative, lol. I admire you and they came out perfect.
Too funny!
I am enjoying this immensely 😊
This is fun and educational
I like both creations. Brilliant & softer. Way to go.
You & your staff deserve gold stars!
Thank you so much 😀
definite wow. Love both results...yr right abt intensity...some are lovely in their limits.
Took me hours to create a neocolor 2's palette...keep adding distilled water+4drops each glycerin & clove bud essential oil & some have dissolved, most are chunky but as a watercolor palette it's stellar. Shout out to Sophie mcpike for the idea. Amazon find: 36-well stay wet lipstick palette...got three of them, 2 for gelli gouache ( cool & warm) & 1 for neo 2's... yr process helps even more...
I love everything about this! My favorite is painting 2 although both are fantastic. I just like the white space in painting 2 and the colors stand out more. This was such a great idea Kristy. How fun. 🎨🥰
Thanks for chiming in!
That mulling probably would've made a good ASMR vid. And how on earth did you get the right ratio of additives for each color? Great video!
I’m thinking about reposting some shirts with the sound of the mulling only!
Booped. Omg they are beautiful, your art is beautiful. They look like professional paints .
My favorite is #2 but they are both beautiful. Kudos to you for attempting this. ☺️
Ha thanks!!
How fun! Do you get to create your own color names😉 You sure take on some amazing tasks! What amazing results❤️
I didn’t give them names yet! I was so tired when it was all “done” lol!
I know you had to be, and so fulfilled at the same time!! New life colors. Love this so much❤️🙂
Your art is always amazing, but I pick 2 the one on the right. You did a great job making your own paint . Wow, you are amazing.
Your videos are always the best.
Thank you so much 😀
I wonder since all different grades of paint were mixed together - will the paint be muddy or chalky? Maybe not. Maybe they will look good.
Could not tell the difference in the 2 paintings, but they both looked like gouache.
Yes more opaque for sure :)
Presented Awesome art work at the end.......👌👌👌👌
I have One question:
You put honey in the colour cube did it not welcoming for the ants❓
Nope! Honey is a long used additive in paint making :) Offers an incredible texture to the finished paint :)
@@KristyRice
Thanks for giving such a good knowledge.......... 💫💫☺️☺️
#1. Because I like the background colors. Nice composition on both.
why don't you keep the colors separate instead of throwing them in a cup to mingle? especially if you're re purposing
The process was interesting to me, a lot of work too. I like painting no. 1. #2 is ok too, however I am partial to the colorful background on 1. Great video. ❤
I dooo love that background! Thanks so much!
Who would have thought decade old paint could be reusable. I love both of the mushroom bouquets, may not be as vibrant as todays paints but they have a subtlety that is simply enchanting.
Did you omit any chips from your experiment? I have a child's set from the 1960s that consists of little paint pucks glued to a cardboard strip and put in a tin. I test drove the paints and found the pigment to be weak. I may have seen you handling a similar set. I love the set you created and think you definitely produced 2 wonderful paintings. I really can't pick a favorite. Thanks for sharing this. Someone needs to invent a paint grinder. Perhaps something like a coffee grinder with a super fine setting. Hmmm.
I did omit some that were in perfect condition and yes I had a few as you described :)
This is so great! Just got fun paints! I really like both paintings. This was highly entertaining. Thanks again, your amazing! Joy!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm wowed and praying for your health!!! Lol!
I meant Kristy not Kirsty.. sorry for the spelling mistake..
You have way more time and patience than I do😅
They are great! I'm totally impressed with both.
Time maybe but there wasn’t a ton of patience here!! 😂😂
@@KristyRice Lol!!!
Super fun colors! And they look so fresh and cute in their pans! 🍄
I think so too!
Its environmentally friendly , right? lol
Excited to see how this is going to turn out for you. Truly enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.😊👍
Thanks 👍
Number 2 ❤
your personality is amazingly beautiful. Your joyfulness brings joy. Please remember that, when life gets rough.
I so appreciate that
Everything you create is magical!
I would absolutely kill to get a set of these paints from you! Particularly the beautiful blue, teal and violet! I am disabled and so I struggle to get really good watercolor but my favorite are honey watercolors. Because I live in Phoenix they behave exceptionally well. Please let me know if there's some way that I could beg you to share a little bit of what you have done with me. I'm a professional animal and I work in colored pencil and graphite photorealism but I enjoy using watercolor for my backgrounds and for my coloring (I'm a HUGE Kerby Rosanes fan).
Send your shipping info to hello@kristyrice.com:) You’re the first to ask so you’ll indeed get a set!!
@@KristyRice oh my goodness thank you so very much!
The question really is Kristy - did you have joy while doing each phase? Hm? See.... it's not fun having it turned back on ya', huh! No, YOU have JOY! Lol! Just kidding! So kidding! I love this video. You have the patience and stamina to pull this off. It was exciting to see the whole laborious process. I like both, but I'd pick #1. It had an X factor. 😊💜 PS - I really do choose joy! 🎉😊
LOLLOL!
clearly I won't be doing this.
Loved painting 2! Also really enjoyed your process, love old tines but don’t think I’d go through this process unless I had too! Meaning never go to a paint store again! Love watching you create and teach, but my chemistry days are over! Happy New Year, Karen Dirmish, learner
Glad you enjoyed it!
This looks like so much fun!! I actually like painting number 1 on arches paper it's probably because of the brighter bolder colors and that amazing blue green background, of course everything you paint is quite amazing and beautiful even the quick practice sketches. Thanks for sharing! You know what might make a super cool giveaway, right? Yep, you guessed it, a palette of these paints...trust me your subs will go banana with excitement 😄
Happy Painting!!
Good idea!!
It's quite lovely! I'm a beginner (as in never explored the world of watercolor) but I'm absolutely in love with your paintings, your style, your knowledge and your videos are extraordinary! I'm paralyzed with limited hand function so I'm always trying things that make art fun and give me more ability to create art! You're truly inspiring! I can't use my fingers but have always colored/drawn/paint using arm movements. I've binge watched your videos for the past 3-4 days. I'm so intrigued and wondering where has watercolor been all my life through all my creative struggles. On 1 hand I'm intimidated but on the other hand I'm so ready to throw down some paint!
I say throw down.😘😘😘 Glad you’re here :)
Hi Kristy awesome. I did the same with kids watercolor paints. We buy them in South Africa in round cakes, but in a plastic holder. I make my own gum arabic from start, because we have alot of acacia gum trees in South Africa and Namibia where I currently am staying.
I love watching your videos
Vallery
Sooo cool!!
I love painting #1. The video is educational. I love your Chinatown dishes.
Glad you like them!
You made my arm muscles hurt just watching you. But you kept you nose to the grind stone and made something amazing and beautiful. Sorry can't choose, you should be proud of both. Thanks for the workout 💪 😊
I love that phrase “keep your nose to the grindstone”! My beloved uncle always said it to me. Thanks for the reminder and for watching :)
Oh...the glue! I love your little plates!
That was quite the endeavor! Whilst the mushroom bouquets were cute, the paints' hues were not very vibrant. Of course, these paints were not the stunning paints that you usually use. And, this was a just for fun experiment. I wonder, if you had known the outcome beforehand, would you still have tried this?
I have a muller and have toyed with the idea of mixing up some of my own paints. But, I think I really just want to swirl around a putty consistency of paint around. LOL
I figured I’d be landing on a muted palette of colors… these vintage palettes were made for kiddos and full of fillers so lots in those chips to dull the final paint mixes :)
I am so very new too, watercolor, I just love you ! You make it so fun 🎉. thank you. I am so loving, watching and learning.
You are so welcome!
Noce. I like painting 2. Successful Frankenpalette for sure. I think you would have had an easier time if you popped the dry paint chips in a coffee grinder first, then rehydrated the powder, though, but it all worked out in the end.
Ohhhh that could have worked!🤦🏻♀️
Great video! I think the artwork is beautiful. My favorite one is the colored background.😊👍
Thank you! Cheers!
This was a really interesting process, while I don’t think I would have had a clue how to even start, I’m glad you did! I am enjoying the heck out of your videos! Off to watch the blue challenge!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was a TON of work, my dear. I congratulate you on your energy. The palette looked very interesting, the colours totally unique! Of course only you could tell how well they performed, but the paintings both turned out great, a tribute to your skill and talent! I love them both, the left one is more interesting to me, the right one very bright and clean with the light background. Thanks for the insight into what you can do with old paints.
Thank you so much!
Painting 2 is my favorite. The colors work and make a nice painting. They don’t seem as bold. I loved watching you do this video but not something I want to try😊.
Thank you very much!
I've watched this video 3 times and liked it on my phone and my television. I hope it counts as 2 boops for you. Lol. I commented again to say that a skilled painter can come up with art without having super expensive paints.
Appreciate that!!
I like 2 the most because the background from 1 takes away from all the cool colors of the mushrooms. In this case the less is more makes me like 2 the most.
I agree :)
ooohhh i love them both! i like the colors 🤷♀️
Wow, you and Kristen (sp?) did a ton of work with those chips! I like both paintings but maybe painting two just a little bit more. 😊
Yes! Thank you!
oddly satisfying to watch the whole process. glad it's you doing and me watching.
Happy to oblige 😘
I loved this video. Such a cool project. I liked painting 2 best
Glad you enjoyed it!
this is so fun, love the idea of a mushroom bouquet, its so cute ❤
Thanks!!
Painting 2 for me definitely 😂❤
Wow !!
Recycle, Reuse !!!
Patience is a virtue !!!😊
Yes indeed!
I found this fascinating!!!
I love #2! Simply whimsical. The colors remind me of old illustrations in a fairy tale book.
Oh they do!! Perfect way to describe them!!
Me too, I love the second painting for the same reason.
Loving the 2nd cause it's more complete. But no 1 is very nice, too.
😘😘
#2!! And i *adore* the vintage palette!! I love the cute colors ❤
The color palette def grew on me!
The dishes are beautiful.
yes, interesting to see if this works
This was very interesting to watch and learn!! ❤❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
I think you would loose all transparent qualities when you mix so many different quality of water color

paint
Not all but some for sure….
