    Albo already made up his mind biased towards not liking the Type S before even visiting. I did the same thing until I saw it in person. Honda/Acura is still trying to find their way in the Type S vs Type R branding and I appreciate the effort. It's weird to have a Type S more expensive than a Type R but we will get use to it if Honda gets their branding reinforcement correct. BTW.. I agree with his friend. The FL5 is race spec so people need to stop complaining about harsh suspension lol. If it's too harsh for you buy a Type S. Race vs Touring.

    Lol Albo sounding SOOO defensive off his FL5 decision. Don’t get me wrong, I think the FL5 is the better car, but the “Haterade” is definitely dribbling down his chin regarding the Integra lol 😂
    PS, there’s no lack of heritage when it comes to the Integra. And the fact that it’s North America only will make it even more special when seen in Japan 😬

  • @onepointsix647
    @onepointsix647 Год назад +14

    Here’s the thing. The Type S branding, as it pertains to North America, was made for Acura. If you’ve been in the Honda scene here for the last 30 years, you’d know that the heritage the Integra Type S carries is from those past models - The TL, CL, and RSX. That lineup again is North American only, and frankly holds weight with American tuners. It’s easy for Albo to dismiss because he’s not in the scene here. Both cars are great and represent their heritage as Honda/Acura intended. Drivers choose what model works best for their own use case.

    I'm going have to disagree with you, Albo. Acura, as a brand, have always been luxury (re)brand of Honda and this particular Integra/DE5 is cater towards the North American market. The type s of the past have always been suited for spirited street driving than on the track, from my point of view. I think the DE5 will age better compare to that of the FK8.

    CTR is definitely the one I want between the two but realistically the Integra would suit my life better. Softer ride + premium feel are things I know I’d appreciate in toronto rush hour.
    But we rarely buy things we need and always get what we want despite the compromise. that’s why I daily a GR86 and yes, it definitely sucks doing the work commute in it but worth it for the fun drives in between.

    "Simple" is just another word for cheap looking. But I get it, it has the 90's/early 2000's cheap plastic yet spartan feel. I have an r33 GTR and S2000 and the "cheap" plastic doesn't not really bother me too much. Although, I wouldn't mind it if it was more refined like the Type S either.

    This was hard to watch based solely on the fact that Albo doesn't want to like the Type S. Having the Type S in this video was pointless. He hates on it the entire time. I've owned a Boost Bue Type R and traded it in after 6 months. That car is a race car first and a street car second. The Type S solves every problem most people have with the FL5. It's all about what you want out of the car. I would also like to point out that the FK8 was a better Type R than the FL5 due to the suspension being a bit softer.

  • @femidawodu5514
    @femidawodu5514 Год назад +2

    Dude, your bias is sooo ridiculous on the Honda type R. It's a Honda and the ACURA is the Premium brand by DESIGN. The ACURA is the better car! The Honda is the brutal riding track car(check reviews)..by design. If you're good with that ..kool . but that's not what sells cars. (ask Porsche. You need a real car that 'strikes' the balance ) Keep in mind this was all BY DESIGN in the product planning. For the record when you've owned a bunch of cars 'maturity' sets in...You want a car that is good looking and can perform on that 1-day or 2 days in the year when you go tracking....heck you might even get a real track car like a PORSCHE. So yeah there is no doubt the ACURA type S is better looking, cost more ,is better equipped (HUD etc.), has a lot of things deleted for "weight savings" and is cooler without a 'BOY RACER black wing' etc. .it's a success!.
    ACURA you did an amazing job. Ohhh and if you can build a world class ACURA NSX in ohio I'm sure you can build a simple Integra /type S to similar standards...God Bless AMERICA!

    It's a damn shame they didn't make that Civic type R in a two-door hatchback I'm getting real sick and tired of their four-door bull-$hit and too many years have passed hopefully one day they'll get back to it.

    • @CaseyCollier
      @CaseyCollier Год назад +3

      1. There is currently no two-door Civic platform to base your suggested Type-R off of, so Honda would have to develop it from the ground up. That would cost an exorbitant amount of money to do, which would invariably increase the selling price even more. If you want a 50-60 grand base price for a Civic Type-R, then that's how you get it.
      2. Even if Honda did go through all the trouble of developing a two-door Civic Type-R from the ground up, it still wouldn't sell in the quantities Honda would need in order to justify the costs to produce it. You have to remember that these cars need to make some amount of money if Honda is going to continue producing them. Otherwise, what's the point in them even doing it in the first place. You can say it's for brand image and the enthusiasts, but ultimately, that doesn't pay the bills. Honda needs to make money, plain and simple. If they don't, then we can forget about ever getting another Type-R ever again. They'll go the way of Mazda and just not offer anything truly sporty anymore. What's the fun in that?

    if ur lookin for looks, better stock exhaust system, dampening comfort, better interior livability(els, more sound deadening, heated seats, sunglass holder) & lesser markup(us customers) then, DE5 all the way. for me the exhaust alone won me over; my dyson sounds better than a stock FL5. everything else is the same. suspension wise, aftermarket can get it to ctr specs for less than 3 grand.
    performance wise, midrange DE5 pulls a bit harder. the engine tuning acura did makes the drivetrain feel less lazy in the lower rpms. the FL5 is lives happily more in the higher rpms.

    Luv your content. Here are my thoughts.The problem with the FL5 is that in the USA market the Honda Dealership marked it up 10k plus. So it's a 55k plus car. I am an FK8 owner needing now to get a more mature looking car. But getting an FL5 is almost unattainable at Honda's real market Price. I am glad that Acura came out with a car that gives a luxury/ race car feel that can be obtained at MSRP lower then the FL5 adjusted market cost in the USA. Also if we talk about heritage the Civic and the Integra came from the same platform. But had slight differences. To say someone is not going to appreciate this car 5 to 10 years from now is not correct. Today 20 year old integra's are highly saught after. The new Type S is also coming from the same platform as the FL5. But Acura wisely made adjustments. They did not badge the Integra as a Type R but a Type S. Like all Tuners you can adjust the Type S car to be a race car if you want to. I test drove the Type S today and am surely glad I can get one. Really sad that the Japanese market does not get this option. I think Acura should be celebrated for making a car with a different flavor. The type R and the Type S are the last of their kind and should be equally celebrated for what they are. Generational manual cars that will not be seen again in the near future.

    The Type S wins if you wanted to rate by racing performance. Throttle House tested both cars off the line and the Type S slightly edged the Type R 0-60 miles while on the track they both recorded the exact same lap times. Savagegeese had the Type S tested on the Dyno and recorded 336 horses. The better sounding exhaust sells it for me to pick the Type S. Oh by the way, the NSX is also designed and built in America so if it's good enough for the NSX it's fine for the Integra Type S.

    But since their car does not seem to be targeted for the audience going on the track and rather having a nice sedan.
    This could work out well as a nice sedan but again only 4 seater? hmmm
    German sedans used to be too expensive but with the new prices with honda ..... there are literally no arguements anymore.
    But hey since the car will be only sold in the US. Americans can decide. The car would clearly make no sense in the EU.

    I only wish they made the Integra Type S as a coupe liftback. That would've made it the perfect affordable modern sports luxury car in my eyes. I also wish the CTR came as a coupe hatchback. Both 10th and 11th gens.

      Then again coupes don't sell enough to justify it.

      @626KiDD true, but neither do manual luxury vehicles. All the competitors (mercedes, audi, cadillac) are making automatic vehicles in the same segment/category cuz that's what sells to that target audience. Don't get me wrong, I love what they did with this new Integra Type S, but to me it feels like they just half-assed it trying to please everyone, when they could've made something truly special and timeless that maybe only a select few would've really loved and appreciated. But who knows, this is only the first year of the new Integra Type S. Maybe they'll come out with something even better in a few years.

    I like the idea of a comfier touring type r such as the integra type s, but the front grill is so ugly it hurts. FL5 all day.

    (heehee, before I even get going, just going to re-vent that these are not what I'd want when they say 'Civic' or 'Integra.' When they say those names I want a *little* or a *slightly less little* one. That said, they could be OK in the medium-biggish wagon kinda slot for me. I mean, I also like wagons. And I'm not in love with the looks of either, but considering what's out there, eh, OK. (And the darker red seats are less garish but I'm like, ehhh..
    (Also for your friend, dealer markups in the US especially for a performance model of anything are *ridiculously out of hand.* )
    I imagine between the two marques, I could find a spec I could accept. The Civic R is nice but looks like a fricking Dodge truck up front, but if I needed a 'new big car' ...maybe. I just wish the automakers would stop limiting what they build to 'what most people will settle for' and instead make a bunch of *different* car forms just how people want em. Like they used to in some respects.
    As an aging GenXer we're getting the opposite of the 'cars of the future' we were kinda promised, where they were saying 'With modern organization and some modularity, you can get anything you like in any color you like all specced like you want,' and instead it's all 'What people will settle for.' (And I guess not being a Honda fangirl, I could see the bright red seats and Championship White maybe being fun in a little car, but in a big one I'm kinda like, 'Eh, that's potentially kinda-sad, like putting racing stripes on a station wagon.'
    And I don't mean to sound that down on these, cause they're trying at Honda, and by all accounts, they're excellent cars of their kind. And despite seeming kinda too chonky for Japanese roads, I'm sure they're a wonderful choice for a young car guy with a growing family like you. And it's obviously got stuff you love, so don't let a cranky old punk chick spoil *that.* :)

    I dont know man. Japanese cars got nothing on porsche, audi, bmw or mercedes. Other super cars excluded, alot of them also look nice but nobody can afford them

    The Type S exists because US Acura wants their own car, but they don't have the budget to do the way FL5 is done(and tbh, FK8 was not like FL5 neither). Honda moved the FL5 to Japan and invested tooling for a new body in white with unique body side stamping and unique doors(really $$$ from an investment standpoint), the Integra doesn't have that budget. So they executed the same way FK8 did(FK8 rear fender is the same way the Integra is, with stuck on extension on metal body in white).
    FL5 is in many ways much more special because you can tell Honda spent more money on it than they did in FK8. But Type S isn't any different than how they executed FK8 before. My biggest peeve with the ITS is it doesn't have the nicer seats and interior difference to regular Integra. And in US it costs 7k more MSRP to CTR with less special features....It probably will be easier to find without markup than CTR but it also costs $7k more....
    I just got my FL5 coming from my FK8. They feel from a driving standpoint, very similar car. All the steering, shifting, control weight all are similar. The 11th gen Civic is nicer than 10th gen though, the infotainment is so much better, and I feel like the interior visibility is better, somehow feels more airy and like older Honda... Interested to find out long term after having chance to work on it if its better in terms of build quality. FK8 was fine, but I think its pretty poorly built in many areas, and my comparison point is Mexican Build VW GTI. Interesting to see if a Made in Japan Honda is as good as their rep...

    Albo is spot on … “Type S will not age as well”. Unfortunately, the Type S has too many embellishments. The Type R is cleaner and simpler and good design always is just that, and that will stand the test of time. Besides, the red seats alone are legendary. :)
