Some of the first American airmen to join the air war over Europe were the volunteers of the RAF’s Eagle Squadrons. In 1942 they were transferred to the Mighty Eighth Air Force under the 4th Fighter Group, based in Debden, Essex. The 4th was the first fighter group to penetrate German airspace, the first to escort bombers over Berlin, and led the first shuttle mission from England to Russia. Under the indomitable leadership of Colonel Don Blakeslee, they became the highest scoring unit of the USAAF, destroying 1,016 enemy aircraft in the air and on the ground.
In this campaign you will join the 4th Fighter Group during the first week following the D-day landings, and relive every mission they flew exactly the way they happened 80 years ago. These were meticulously recreated based on original documents and personal accounts with a keen focus on the finest details, allowing you to firsthand experience what it was truly like to take part in ‘The Mighty Endeavor’, one of the greatest military operations in history.

It's just as bad in the game. It's virtually unplayable. I flew through the mission by the grace of labels and then crashed after flying over the airfield 12+ times trying to get a clear look at the runway and crashed and said fuck It. Need to play with reshade more I guess.
@@phantom12321800 as the mission briefing suggests, you can increase your gamma until you see enough, without exiting the game. It's not darker than it was in real life, anyway.

Yeah, fortunately the AI switch on their nav lights before entering the clouds. It’s definitely one of the coolest moments in the mission. I wish that they would have done that on departure.

I thought it was just my graphics card - which I'm sure didn't help - but on a lot of the night videos, whether this or the subsims, you say "I can barely see it" which my computer takes to mean, put 3 grayish black blobs so I definitely can't see it. But I love the content, love the RP you put into all your vids. You are quickly becoming my favorite YT personality. Keep up the good work!
A bit off topic but I loved your Silent Hunter 3 campaign videos, but I do wonder what mods did you use on your campaign since the vanilla is a bit dated. Love this video though!
Has there been any adjustments made to the video? When I did this mission I had to turn labels on from time to time just to see where the plane right next to me was. It was nail biting. I switched gamma to 3.3 but it still remained close to pitch black. Actually, no - it did go a bit more gray but there was no contrast at all. I could see the moon but little else, maybe the occasional darker patch. Maybe it’s my card and monitor combo?
Man, the Eisenhower Speech always hits so hard. Imagine, being in that cockpit alone hearing that...side note im fucking pumped for Masters of the Air.
Cant wait for the show lol, this series should bridge the gap nicely though!

Holy mackerel, what a brilliant video. Fantastic work, man! Great cinematics. Here are a few tips for future missions:
- According to the manual you need to leave 24 gallons in the rear tank as reserve to achieve perfect balance for landing
- It's not Il-2, feel free to push your engine harder to catch up :) I use 61" and 3000 RPM because then I catch up sooner and I need to push the engine for a shorter time
- No need to open the rads manually. The needle may be high, but the automatic valve will open the flaps and not let it climb higher
- I suspect that the left drop tank is bugged in DCS. It empties way faster than the right one.

- It is funny that you caught onto me being very conservitive with the engine. My fear is cooking it and that is defintly a habit that comes from Il-2 haha. Also why I was concerned about the temps.
- Good to know the drop tank was just a bug! I do like random failures like that though haha

Debden is just south of Saffron Walden in Essex, England. Debden village itself is in a hilly area, but the airfield was closer to the even smaller hamlet of Wimbish, after which it was more recently known as an army base. I live about 30 miles away.
Careful you don't run into Pewnack the destroyer.

OK I was legitimately thinking to myself the day before, Man I wish Wolfpack could do another DCS campaign preferably one with the p-51, AND BAAM he read my mind

I first got into air combat with the Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator from 1998/99. It thought it was the end all/be all of air combat. Boy, was I wrong. It's still a great sim, and probably one of the stepping stones to get to this. DCS has provided skilled campaign makers like Reflected the platform to really scramble your head. As real as we can get today.

Possibly the most beautiful mission I've ever seen. Night flights always do something extra for me.. the luminescent green gauges, the dim incandescent flood light, the moon reflecting off the clouds... Damn dude. Very good, sir.
flight sims have come a long way. if I had been a kid and had those clouds and graphics I would go insane haha

Been hearing about this campaign coming for a month or more now. I'm sure it's going to be well done like the other stuff Reflected has put out. I'm mostly just glad the the DCS drought on your channel is over. Can't wait until you do the next mission. Great work on this video, as is the norm with your vids.
Yeah making videos in DCS has frustrated me for a while. The changes to the track system and AI have made it much more enjoyable

Ironically, the losses on the beaches were not at all insane. Only at Omaha were the losses serious, and even then they were not nearly as bad as the common perception. The airborne did a phenomenal job and 4 of 5 landings went incredibly well. Even Omaha went pretty well after the initial beach was taken. The importance of the landings going well enough to sustain and grow the beachheads was hard to overstate, and it was a stunning success in that regard.
Reflected's campagins are always incredible his Tomcat ones are awesome. I haven't played any of his WW2 ones.

I've been binge watching all your old campaigns from a couple of years ago, loved the Sabre campaign, sad it ended, but you made it through :D
I'm a student pilot. That dive through the clouds had me way more stressed out than I think it should have.
That night dive with the lights was great.
A little more worrying than otherwise because I'd watched a vid on the demonstration disaster with the JU-87s where they were diving through the clouds but some fog had rolled in so they didn't pull up in time and crashed 17 dive bombers
Amazing job with those cinematics and adding speeches of Ike and FDR was a great idea. Looking forward for more episodes. ;-)

Everytime i watch these Videos i cant help but try really hard to imagine what went trough the People's Heads who did this for real, truly, it is something no ordinary Human will ever be able to wrap their Mind around, im confident that you can only truly understand it, if you've done it.
You get ready with your Team, Chances are high youre seeing your Brothers around you for the last Time, either you, or them wont makeit, you take off... The Calm before the Storm, just you, your thoughts, and the Plane Engine for a long Time... Then, the command, time to dive, what will hit you in a Moment? Will the Enemy be caught offguard? Are they waiting for you? You're gonna find out soon, no turning back now. This might be the last Time you can even think, the last time youre speaking to your Brothers, the last Time you're alive!
I could go on.
It would be cool to see take off and landing from the cockpit view, especially in such bad conditions...

As a man sticking it with the USAA, I appreciate the jab at wet boots in the beginning. Starting off strong, Wolfpack, starting off strong. o7
I flew this mission in VR last night. I turned the gamma setting up in DCS to max, but it was still a bit darker than what’s in the video. I tried to follow my flight lead after takeoff, but lost him and came within a whisker of orphaning my kids. I decided to climb out on runway heading until clear of the clouds and then circled back until I found the fighter group. It took me a while for locate the 334th in the dark, once I did, looked for the element with 3 a/c. And so it went.
I have my PPL and have done a bunch of actual (with safety pilot/CFII) and hood time, but this mission still tested my panel chops to the max. It was the most challenging mission in almost 3 decades of combat flight sims. My left drop tank didn’t feed either. I’m very familiar with the 4th FG, since dad flew Phantoms with the 335th and 336th, so looking forward to the rest of this campaign. Well done @Reflected Simulations for the campaign and to @wolfpack345 for the magnificent video.
This is an absolutely epic series.
You fuel shut off is switched on ON... Sometimes it took a little longer than comfortable for the process to complete changing from one fuel source to the next, as well.
That was superb - exciting and atmospheric. Can't wait to see how it pans out!
Would it be possible in DCS to do a bomber campaign? That might be fun to watch. Managing a wounded bomber is always fun lol
