  • I go Rock Hounding for crystals at the Schickler Fluorite Mine in Wilberforce, Ontario Canada. This mineral collecting site in known for its deep purple Fluorite as well as Apatite or Fluorapatite crystals that have chunks of purple Fluorite stuck in them. This large collecting site is accessed by signing a waver online on the Highlands East Municipal website. A variety of minerals can be found at this site including Apatite, Augite, Calcite, Fluorite, Pyrite, Scapolite, Titanite and others. This is one of the easier sites to access in the Bancroft mineral collecting area and is located not far from Titanite Hill the Grace Lake road cut and the famous but now closed Bear Lake digging site.
Collect, rock hound, explore and hike at your own risk and always seek land owner permission before collecting.

I prefer to dig too. Virgin ground in tree roots was my best find. Gorgeous there. 😍. Nice finds my friend 🤩

Funny you mention the bugs, I went to both Titanite and Schickler a weekend ago and the bugs at Schickler were AWFUL! Titanite didn’t have as many as I expected, but still I come prepared for a few when it comes to hounding. Great video!

Usually I find Titanite Hill has the worst bugs around, that and Grace Lake roadcut, brutal there!!!

Good dig Jeff, alot of folks don't realize the nice Apatites there. I really like the dark red ones and the Christmas Apatites, green/red as I call them. 👍

I like the green and red ones, kind of like the Miller property Apatites.

Nice video, cool finds. I went to Schicklers last year I dug in the roots and had good success finding appetite crystals, I even found some orthoclase with either small rutile crystals or schorl crystals growing through it.

Happy to see you making vids finally Jeff :D I like the small clearish purple flourite pieces littered all over the ground. Hopefully I'll go through my stash and find one large enough with no cracks to facet. One can hope!

@@OffTheBeatenPath1 I am feeling good enough for a new adventure. At the end of the month will be heading north for some silver. Before then, might hit some closer sites.

Hey Jeff, Nice video of schickler for sure. I don't remember amphiboles being mentioned there, I know there are some nice apatites to be found there and I got some nice pieces of flourite there about the size of a dinner plate. I took a two 5 gallon pales one for tools and the other for specimens. On the way out up n down the hills to the parking lot I must have stopped fifty times for breaks. I still wonder if the alternate route is the better way to get there which I never did use. I also wonder if there are specimens to be found in the little creek just north of the cut. I did see yur vid on Titanite hill too. you got some nice crystals of titanite. Good to see you again, take care Jeff be safe too. Lloyd.

I have seen people at this site with cordless drills, takes the fun out of collecting in my opinion.

I keep the best and give away the rest. For me it's more about the hunt and being out in nature.

Are you allowed to camp on shicklers property?

No camping allowed, but there is Crown land in the vicinity where you can always pitch a tent.
