Look at that handsome beard! Great finds 😁
It was a good day of collecting, thanks.
There should be no question between corundum and mica. Corundum is aluminum oxide and very hard with about twice the weight per volume of mica. It's used widely as an abrasive. Mica is very soft.
True, I could have done a scratch test on the corundum.
love these adventures lately - all within an hour of our cottage! definitely gonna check a few of these out on our trip in a couple weeks and hope for some fall colors at this site!
Glad you enjoyed them. The next 4 Saturdays I will have new videos posted, stay tuned.
A nice adventure
You need to make it out on the next one.
Funny how the camera cannot capture steepness. I remember that hill very well. Climbed it in the ‘90s, it left an impression.
It's steeper than it looks. I was questioning how the ATV's don't tip over trying to get up the hill???
Nice trip Jeff hey I've been trying to get ahold of yourself or mic shoot me an email if ya can !
Will do.
If you want some nice shaped Corundum Jeff ya got to hit up the Logan cuts behind Burgess mine. Little to no Mica associated with them either.
I will put it on my list for my next outing, it's Crystal season.
Another great vid dude. Cool site for digging! V jealous of your corundum collection.
Thanks. More videos are on the way, stay tuned.
I have a love / hate relationship with mica associated with corundum , especially gem corundum lol . For some inexplicable reason , mica loves to sit on top of blue to bluish gray quartz , giving you that particular color suite and flat shiny side just like corundum . I also found it has an affinity for garnet as well , so that you get a vivid dark red color with a bright flat reflective face . Mother Nature is a consummate prankster .
I can enjoy Mica in moderation, when my vehicle gets covered inside with sparkly Mica flakes I get disgruntled!
Can you find any Amazonite that resembles the ones from Colorado?
If your talking actual crystals no. You can find nice Amazonite for lapidary related stuff.
We thought is was 10 dollars, for 2 peeps the 40 was a bit steep....nice amazonite ;]
It was a tad pricey, but I was happy with my finds.
looked like eroded calcite
Looks like a northern ring necked snake. ❤ Great video.
I think your right, wish I would have been able to see his yellow belly to be 100% sure.
Keep the beard!!! Totally suits you. Great vid buddy. I think its time I head back there as well.
Thanks, and I am going to keep the beard.
I literally live under 10 mins from this road checking it today . Shoot me a message Jeff I'd love to meet up sometime !!
Is quartz worth anything?
It can be if you have something really nice.
Like the Beryl Pit! I have been there several times. If you get there after it has rained its much easier to find interesting stones in the dumps. When I was there last, about 20 years ago, there was a pond in the pit area. I uncovered a large smoky quartz crystal. It was 12" X 6" and perfectly formed on one side, but the backside was flat. I left it there. I have found lots of deep blue beryl and some aquamarine pieces. I dug a hole next to a stream that was draining the pond and found a 4# chunk of light blue beryl. Somewhere near Bancroft, possibly at the Beryl Pit, I found a few pieces of clear sapphire (scratches beryl) and another clear rock that looked like quartz. It has a light smoky hue inside, with some interesting light catching inclusions, and is the size of a walnut. I did some hardness testing on it and determined it is not quartz. It is either topaz or sapphire. It will scratch beryl, and is not as hard as the clear sapphire I found.
Very nice. One day soon I will need to spend the whole day at the Beryl Pit and dig down into the good stuff. So far my best Beryl is 2 inches long.
@@OffTheBeatenPathCrystals This week I measured the specific gravity of the clear stones I assumed were sapphire or topaz. It looks like they are all goshinite.
My father and I dug out a lot of that trench! When I found it, it was already begun by someone else, about a third the size. We followed the tench up the hill as it started to peter out. Got some great titanite feldspar combos pieces out of it. Often the best thing you can do at Titianite Hill is just continue digging someone else’s hole!
Where is the older dude you used to go out rock hounding with? He’s got a youtube Caver461. Side note i found a nice quarts crystal pocket in western maine. Getting some nice specimens out of it.
Nice, I wish we had more Quartz occurrences where I live.
Are you still alright?
I survived the darkness.
Thanks Jeff, I am enjoying your videos
Glad you like them, many more to come shortly.
It's great to be a kid!
Ya, it never gets old.
Are you on crown or private land ?
This is a public did site. It is on crown land.
Thanks for the informations....can you pls give idea how may be the price
Prices can be all over the place. Best to take some to your local rock/crystal shop and see what they say.
Are there directions to the site?
Most are on private property. I suggest searching online for Black Rapids Lyndhurst Quartz. That should nudge you in the right direction.
This video is based and reality-pilled.
My buddies property is 12 km from there and is smack in the middle of the Grenville range. I've seen lots of matrix stuff on the surface but have not done any digging yet.
Would this ruin the color of agate?
I would suggest trying a small piece you don't mind loosing if it does not work out for you.
nice finds Jeff
It's good to have friends! We were at the Smart mine last weekend with the same amount of mosquitos. We use Thermacell mosquito repellent and they worked great. Highly recommended.
Everyone tells me the same thing, I need to get one for myself.
Good job. I felt like I was there with you getting eaten by the mosquitos
I don't wish these bugs on anyone.
You did awesome Jeff. Two spots produced some real beauties for sure. I heard Mr. Gordon, I did. Thanks for another great video. Lloyd.
You did hear him.
Nice sites and great crystals Jeff. Enjoyed watching!!
Time for another trip soon, bugs or no bugs I need to dig.
Sometimes I wear earplugs with those bugs. It keeps my stress level lower. If you've never done it, give it a try. See if it works for you.
Watch for bears .
Tremolite is great. But just be careful. After all it is a form of asbestos. Gonna quote MeMiner when he says he has "an appetite for apatite."
Sweet! Enjoyed the video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Since they stiffed you on the shower curtain , you may as well rinse off your finds in there , lol . You had one awesome trip for sure .
Yes, lol. Should have washed my Crystals in their bathroom sink.
Any chance you can send me an address? I would love to check this spot out!
It on Wittke Rd off of Foymount Road by Lake Clear. Someone has the site marked as Smart Mine on Wittke Rd on Google Earth.
Hi Jeff! I'm planning a trip to titanite hill soon, and was wondering if you had any tips for finding good spots to dig. I've been there before, but had almost no luck, and found only very small pieces. Should I try to go where nobody else has dug before, or follow along other spots people have found? Thanks!
Either way their is a certain amount of luck in it. But following Calcite is usually where I fond the good crystals.
Do ya ever trade specimens?
Great video handsome
Thank you kindly.
Aquamarine beryl
You are full of Joy! Amen! GLORY BE
it’s me. i want the Mica. Edit: my eyes popped out of my head at the book you found in the trench!
There is loads of Mica at Titanite Hill. Main parking area, a bit to the right and up the hill.
@@OffTheBeatenPathCrystals thank you!!! the Beryl Pits and CN Rock Pile near Bancroft gave some beautiful samples last month :)
nice, the crystals are superb, they look metallic grey in the video, cool
I am from Indiana, u.s., and we are going on vacation in June in Niagara falls, Ontario, and I'm looking for somewhere near there to hunt for crystals and minerals. Have any suggestions on where I should look?
The next time your in Peterborough, take a walk along the trail behind the Holiday Inn. There are large rocks lining the trail, and just before the railroad bridge you can find some amazing fossils.
I will keep my eyes open next time I am up that way.
This is an awesome video. Thanks for sharing.
Hey, I have a quick question. Me and my friend love caving, we live in ontario, close to a town called Lindsay. We've been in all sorts of caves, we don't like caves that require tours, and we prefer difficult caves that require a very difficult crawl, such as the one on my recent video. Do you have any recommendations for caves that fit the difficult criteria that you can enter alone? As long as they are worth it we'd be willing to drive up to 3-4 hours.
nice seeing you at the quarry Jeff May1st '24, hope you found some good minerals, any fluorite or galena? your videos as usual are great
Not much for me that day. I did find some nice dogtooth spar Calcite Crystals. Did you have any luck?
