Love your fluorite finds, thanks for sharing your adventures and getting me and others inspired to get out and do some rockhounding. Always nice to see what's available around this area for those who put in some work. Keep it up and hopefully I'll run into you and Mick while you're out one day :)

hi, I've found some good stuff from place like this, Fluorite, Calcite, but I live over the pond England , love your finds, enjoyed your video

I really like all your videos especially the montrose road occurance videos, i have been doing some searching there this summer, have found a massive calcite vug, people thought was done already, its the vug you opened with caver, the one with the drill that you put your hand in, people.have since chipped the top off, out of curiosity i pounded thru the back only to find it was hollow after a few hard swings also it got bigger inside, its so far back and opens up to a bigger cavity inside, i cant use a standard chisel any more, you would need drills maybe a saw and some determination! you should revisit that rock and have a l look in that vug...i suspect that rock has a internal vein(s) that goes across about 6 feet of rock, the rock is full of calcite and possibly some amazing specimens in it, its also the same vug me miner goes into in his video...it has provided many great turtle shell looking calcite specimens and looks to have many more inside

Thanks for the heads up, I will have to revisit that spot, I know the rock you are talking about.

@@OffTheBeatenPathCrystals cheers Jeff, if you do go soon, also another heads up there appears to be some people living nearby that area now, i have had a lot of success right at the corner of montrose and the alley way behind public health, they repiled/bulldozed the rocks here and some had perfect cubes sitting on the side, at first, purple and clear flourite containing rocks,

Off The Beaten Path; been there couple times to Montrose, I like the sphalerite though, it fluoresces orange-red in UV light, never found those blue fluorite cubes (only colorless tiny cubes of fluorite), there are blue and purple streaks in the dolostone here and there, but no blue cubes at all, so your finds are wow

I found some honey coloured Fluorite at this site that fluoresces white just like fluorite from the Flamborough Quarry does.

Cool finds, I thought Montrose wasn't open to collecting, if it's OK to collect I think I will go and check it out.

Hi Jeff, Waiting for the next hike--- thanks. Have put in a couple of comments on Caver channel and haven't heard a word. Please let us know
if Mick and his family are OK. Hope he is just writing a new book or doing more stained glass work. Spring and early summer are really
good bug times--- better get out there. The best.

Beautiful pieces of fluorite you found, very nice colour. I've been there a couple times and found really nice pieces of everything there except fluorite. I will have to go back and try again!

Some times I think its just dumb luck at this location. If you see a big blob of Calcite, break it up.

Take a closer look thru your loupe, you will find that you did find fluorite in the dolostone (in the small vugs) but they're small clear colorless cubes, but you're right about the purple cubes, very rare, never found them myself either; speaking of yet another mineral, what is cool about Montrose, but few mention it, are the TAR drops! So cool! Very black and shiny puddles in the crevices and vugs of the dolostone next to the sphalerite, calcite and fluorite crystals.

I've still got that Flourite cube that I showed you a few years back with Mike and I've discovered a few smaller cubes since then at the quarry across the roadway . I would definitely dissolve a little more calcite but I'd be nervous to dissolve too much .

I managed to find some fluorite clusters in matrix at the montrose dump today, I was wondering if you knew of any other places I could find some in the area? I'm obsessed, thanks to Jeff!

Hey perhaps if you ever head down, I could show you some other neat spots or we could rock hound together I seen you and Caver back in the day gosh probably 8 years ago with my daughter. You two were funny, lol you liked our haul of Spars lol Still live in the area and go over frequently to dig around. Be sure to keep an eye out for my sculptures ( earth based ) I love to create Carin's are well, I will be creating them over the winter and next year. Hoping to convince the city to make this site a nature art park, for people to connect with nature and possibly save some of those big mother stones. I put some finds in my installation for the History Museum coming up this spring :)

Make sure the temperature stays constant. I have cleaned up lots of Fluorite. If you don't, it will crack and cleave off. What are you using to etch it out?

That is a huge fluorite for the locality! Try to keep some calcite at the base, for contrast.

That's great - we live close by in Hamilton. Are you able to share where you went here? I thought Montrose was closed. Would love to take my 7 year old there in a couple weeks if it's open. Are you able to share whereabouts you went? I've never been and would appreciate some direction! Thanks brother!
