Good morning from Australia Michael, another great video with some great specimens and your inherent background knowledge makes it invaluable. The only way this could have been better is If you had taken me with you so I could dug a few of those out myself.😜. Your partner in hounding as usual has got some great pieces as well. Keep Safe & Keep Rockin

Admittedly it was not easy - enter from the top end like we did. There is a clear path on your left as you follow up the track. it's about 20 minutes to a half hour past the outwash

Very cool video, just checked the MLAS (Mining Lands Administration System) map and found this are is claimed.
The company New Age Metals has the whole area claimed. They found mutli-million ounces of Palladium on their claim CLM450 which covers a very large area of 4777 Hectares. Their Lease Term is for 21 Years starting in 2011 until 2032. The garnets in this area are on their claim so you'd have to contact them to get permission to be on the property as they have legal claim according to the Ontario Ministry of Mines, "all that land and land under water". They have an office in Ontario you can google New Age Metals Ontario Office and find their phone number if you wish to ask permission for access. I have no idea if they will give it but I am personally hoping they will.

...25 years ago at a Rock Show, I was shown some really nice blocky snow-white feldspar encrusted with black tourmaline needles and perfect dodecahedral brown garnets. The guy told me roughly where they came from. Looked a couple of times in the 90's, found some rose quartz pegmatite, blue apatite, but no specimens. Bit I think I've now located the spot, with better satellite imagery. Worth taking another look.

Rob Oakman - Not much, almandine is a common gem. However, a good one would be appreciated by Ontario gemstone collectors!

Great place to collect crystals, but facet grade almandine is small, and rare, under 1% I’d say. Stones under half a carat are possible if you’re lucky. The broken crystals will tumble nicely, decent cabs are possible, but more are brown than a nice red. The real find is staurolite! Use iron out to remove stains, and a spot cleaning gun or pressure washer, to remove the mica. All in all, collecting doesn’t get much easier than this place!

I believe the property still has a claim on it. Its been abandoned since the late sixties as a working mine & nobody really enforces the claim. You can still get a potential fine for not having a prospectors license if an MNR officer wants to be a prick. The spots he was collecting from are just test pits on the rock ridge. The actual working mine was below the ridge which is a swamp now. I spent a good part of my childhood in the area & was taken there as young boy in the mid 70's to collect large rocks of garnet & mica for a rock garden my parents were building. I was back a couple years ago & picked up some specimens. Its is quite a bit different then what it was back in the 70's & the ridge was just the edge of the occurrence.
