This is my favorite game of all time, I've played it as a child and now I still play it all the time sometimes I've beaten this game 8 times and It's still the greatest game of all time.
Same, my grandma got me a GBA with the Super Mario Bros 3 port when I was five years old, and it remains my all time favorite game, even after playing hundreds of other games.
I was born in '93 so my first console was N64 and I never got to play NES as a kid. Nintendo released the All-Stars remake on GBA as Super Mario Advance 4 and I'm so glad they did. Next to Pokemon it was the game I played and replayed the most. To this day it's one of my all-time favourites. Thanks, Nintendo. Have my children.
for some reason as a child, I was always scared of the concept of the literal Sun ( yeah I know its not the actual sun now) wanting your ass dead, sort of made Bowser seems alot more powerful as well by controlling the Sun itself to attack you.
Well, I think people liked the giant world simply because everything looked cool and it was an interesting level twist to see enormous enemies instead of the small regular ones we were used to. As for Kuribo's Shoe, I think the novelty of it and the general feeling of satisfaction at being able to stomp enemies like Spinies, who were constant pests, just made the level it appeared in all the more fun.
You can even kill Bowser with the hammer bros. suit. I didn't discover until years later that you can defeat Bowser by throwing hammers at him, rather than having him fall through the floor.
This one is my favorite of the oldschool 2d Mario games. I give it the edge over Super Mario World (although that's a great game too), because of a larger variety of powerups, more secrets to uncover, better level design, and more uniqueness setting apart the eight different worlds.
There are a lot of fun powerups and 'suits' to use in the game, but I always felt that anything aside from the leaf/"racoon suit" was just too rare. There are very few opportunities in the game to pick up the Tanooki Suit, Hammer Suit, Frog Suit, etc. My experience of finally getting the Tanooki suit, like most people probably, was not knowing how to use it. I tried freezing into a statue immediately near some enemy, and suddenly flipped back to regular Mario right on top of the enemy and died. That was likely the ONLY time the average player will ever see the Tanooki suit. But there sure will be a lot of racoon leafs in pretty much every block. Still, one of the greatest games ever made.
In fact, in some ways Super Mario Brothers 3 followed in the footsteps of Super Mario Brothers 2, especially the setting(s). No longer was it all grasslands. You had your ice world, your DESERT world (notable in terms of Mario Brothers' 2's Arabian setting), etc. It was Super Mario Brothers 2 that was the first to incorporate most of the level cliches that you would see in the later games.
I don't know HOW many hours (or days, rather) me and a friend of mine have played the battle mode of Mario 3. It's houses incredible depth and there are some really awesome strategies you could deploy! That mode alone just keeps on giving...
Without a doubt the first six mario games just have so much nostalgia and awesome game play. I am just glad the Mario series is still going strong today. Man i need to play Mario 3D World. Great video dude!
Honestly, there is very little to complain about in this game. The gameplay is more or less perfection, and the levels are incredibly designed and provide for loads of replay.
I love how the ending to this game unintentionally is documented proof that the "your princess is in another Castle" meme was around way before the word "meme" was in widespread usage. (Yes I know it was in the first game, I played both of these when I was a child when they were still fairly new but people would say this as a joke, in other words a meme, and clearly Nintendo was aware of this and put the joke in their own game, a joke they created but nonetheless one that was in widespread usage, heck I remember people saying this as a joke as a child)

I actually agree. I held for years that World was better until I replayed 3 again. The worlds in 3 are better and more varied. Too bad it doesn’t have a save feature but save states take care of that.
I probably the minority out there that thinks Mario 3 is overrated. Not that I'm saying it's a bad game by all means. It's an great game. But I don't think it's the best Mario game.
I think World 4 is people's favorites because it blew our minds as children. As an adult I am more partial to worlds 5 and 7, but as a child I loved World 4 and how everything was supersized.
bchristian85 I love this game as a whole, but I always find myself going back to Seaside (World 3) whenever I pop this game in. I also have a fondness for Big Island, The Sky, IceLand, and Pipe Maze.
I find it funny that the legend of zelda, sonic, and mario have, considered by many, the best third installments. What I mean by that is, everyone can agree that sonic 3 and knuckles, the legend of zelda a link to the past, and super Mario bros 3 are the best in each franchises classic era. Same goes for the jump to 3d. All three franchises first real try at 3d games were very successful, and considered the best by many. Of course I mean The Legend Of Zelda Ocerina Of Time, Super Mario 64, and Sonic Adventure.
This game brings back memories. Honestly, it's right there with Super Mario World as the best! The creativity in this one was incredible! Especially for an nes game!

I remember when this game first came out, it use to drive my younger brother crazy because I always wanted to rent this game from the video store for my choice of game. My parents decided to buy it for me for my birthday since I liked it so much.
From what I've heard, the last two digits of your score plus those two digits divided by 10 are the amount of coins you need for a treasure ship to spawn. (For example, if the last two digits of my coin counter was 70, I'd need 77 coins. If it was 10, I'd need 11 coins) Still though, it's quite a chore to get your score and coin count to be a specific value.
Same, I got it in world 3 though. I was playing with my friend too, and he loves collecting coins, so I told him to go enter the ship and his eyes almost fell out of his sockets.
The GBA version of SMB3 did have Luigi's gameplay differ from Mario's by having him linger in the air longer when jumping. This made trying to land on enemies, especially fast moving bosses more difficult as you would position Luigi directly above the enemy only to have the enemy move just out of the way before you landed. However, it does give Luigi more time to make those long jumps over pits. Sort of a win/lose situation if you are only used to playing with Mario.

I have this game on the Wii Virtual console and I have the Game Boy Advance remake. If you beat the original version, the game resets all over again. If you beat the GBA remake, the game has a world select option. To be honest, I like the original version a bit better. Mario's/Luigi's sound clips in the GBA remake kinda distracts me from the gameplay.
My grandpa wrote down all the possible match up screens for the power ups. I still have them to this day. A shame I can’t play this game again. Love you grandpa. Also I remember when I ran out of time once when I was little it spooked me so bad I started crying because Mario just died out of nowhere lol

4:45 .... if you run, full force, max "P", into the end zone, and jump right into the box - a star every time.
+ViciousTheHedgehog95 Super Mario All Stars Version! Has the best music and graphics, and no annoying voice clips. Lol
Shoga san It's like having two versions in one, but with a classic formula. If only I owned a SNES...
But the GBA version has those badass e-reader levels!
Mario is gloveless in all versions, isn't he?
I always wanted to play those back when I had the GBA game, but I never had an e-reader. :P
My grandpa wrote down all the possible match up screens for the power ups. I still have them to this day. A shame I can’t play this game again. Love you grandpa.
Also I remember when I ran out of time once when I was little it spooked me so bad I started crying because Mario just died out of nowhere lol
p meter = power meter.
oh!!! I thought it meant pee meter
P=POW POW is short for power.
@TornadoCreator
I gave Lost Levels a 4.0 out of 10. That's lower than a 6. :)
