  • Something about this feels directed at Fallout 3, maybe it's just me...

    The BOS on the east cost even tells you there not Brotherhood no more, they where ex-communicated , the outcasts would be more ""proper"" brotherhood, sense they left for believing Lyons was forgetting there goals and missions. Heck I would even dare say the BOS of 3 fits more into the canon ending of the Brotherhood from 1 then NV.

      Right but you just skip out on Fallout 2 and the emergence of the NCR, and you can't just ignore those things.
      Also, why does it make sense to go to the other side of a country turned desolate wasteland to start anew. I feel Bethesda wanted to use the cool looking factions w the cool looking armor and they made it happen. The Fallout world changes and shifts, I think the New Vegas representation is as true to form as it gets, and a well done form at that.

      @@nvRanger interestingly enough, some of the cancelled Interplay Fallout games did have BoS far down East. Iirc, Tactics 2 was supposed to have a "despotic BoS chapter" in the Gulf Commonwealth, Florida. So maybe it wasn't _entirely_ Bethesda's idea to put them there

    • @nvRanger
      @nvRanger  Год назад +1

      @@pug-aloentertainment3801 that's fair. Wasn't aware of that. However, I do feel that the time would have been taken to change the faction to a unique form or properly explain their existence in a believable way. That's subjective of course, but with the direction New Vegas took with its factions I have to assume there would be major differences with what Interplay would have done, and what BGS did.

      @@nvRanger Well it makes sense to me why they would go to the east coast of the united states. And that's because there's luscious technology in the east. And not to mention the knowledge to be had at the capitol of the US.

    I personally don’t think it was at jab at Bethesda and their take on the East Coast Brotherhood (Around the time of Fallout 3, mind you). I feel it was just the writer acknowledging their existence, along with the fact that the whole conflict between Lyons’ splinter group and the Outcasts (Who in this case were the true BoS following orders at the time) happened. Simple connections of the games through worldbuilding to keep continuity. The designers at BGS reference the West Coast a few times in Fallout 3 and 4. They even acknowledged that the Midwest Brotherhood probably existed at some point (Citation: Scribe Rothschild).

      How would they even know about it, though? In Fallout 3, it's made clear that the East Coast Brotherhood and the Outcasts have been out of contact with the West Coast Brotherhood for years.

    Some people don't like how pathetic this BoS chapter it is, but I think that's what makes it more compelling. The Brotherhood has the same syndrome of The Blades in Elder Scrolls, where they've stuck around with the franchise for long enough that Bethesda feels they are entitled to appear in each subsequent game, even if they progressively erode the identity of what the group was supposed to be in the narrative. Obsidian had the guts to blatantly expose that fact and create a story to add a new perspective to the new vs old conflict established in 3. The brother won't always be good, maybe it wasn't supposed to be in the first place, and not every version of its namesake will act in accordance with the foundation it was built upon, but that too can be an organic part of developing a faction when done in a clever way.

      I could not agree with you more. The way the world shifts in Fallout games under the correct writers is one of my favorite things about it. Bethesda sees the BoS as the poster child of the franchise and puts their PA on every cover possible. In reality, a lot of time has passed in a volatile wasteland, and they are not what they were. The NCR won in this timeline. The Brotherhood lost, and they are suffering. That is where we meet them, and it may be their most interesting and vulnerable representation.

      Me personally, I liked F3's Lyons' BoS, since there was also that split with the Outcasts that made it interesting. I know the Outcasts still "technically" exist within Maxson's BoS, but it wasn't the same.

      It is from one of Drags character packs than can be found on www.gunetwork.org/f10-modding
      Just search 'drag' and his mods will come up. There are quite a few.
