    I love how Todd has an ultrawide monitor and their games still don't support them without tweaks and mods

      No they are not, playing games is a blast. You really get sucked in to the field of view.
      It helps with video and sound editing since you have a bigger area for the timeline.

    Notice how much Bethesda talked about weapons and exploration while Obsidian focused on player choice. That is the key difference between the 2 companies. For Bethesda, the worlds they make are their worlds. But for Obsidian, the worlds they make are the player's world.

      Bethesda needs to hire some better writers, their games would improve drastically if they did.

    • @Lucifronz
      @Lucifronz 7 лет назад +73

      Honestly, I would be so glad if they worked with Obsidian for a Fallout game. They make the world, Obsidian makes the combat work, the story work... basically the only thing Bethesda would be doing is coming up with new gun ideas (they seem to like that anyway) and creating the ruined world the story would be based in.
      I love the Capital Wasteland, more than I love New Vegas' setting, but story-wise 3 is inferior and the gameplay was a touch weaker, although very similar (outside of player choice).

      What Bethesda excels in: World design, world building, VISUAL STORY TELLING, attention to detail, atmosphere
      What Obsidian excels in: Story, choices within quests, NPC character designs + stories, the way factions work, cHOICES

    It's a small thing, but even the background music feels telling of the developers. Bethesda has a more "edgy" feel to it. It sounds like it's trying to be cool and "with the times."
    Obsidian has a more down to earth sounding track. More "home-y" and relaxed.

  • @matman000000

    I love how Bethesda has apparently made a build just to test the guns, yet the final game had probably the worst gun handling at the time, with weapons that felt more like unresponsive magical staffs summoning bullets, no aiming down sights and a horribly inaccurate crosshair. Not only has New Vegas improved the gun combat by a mile, they've also added special melee attacks to try and make close combat more than two guys awkwardly spamming fast hits until one drops like a rag doll.

      Fallout 3 is unplayable without an iron sights mod on PC. At least I refused to play it without that mod.
      And even after I played it, it wasn't the big shit everyone was talking about, I just finished the main storyline and that's it, didn't even bothered completing the DLC's. I don't remember anything else about Fallout 3 anymore, except the part where you're a baby and grow up in the Vault, that's my favorite part, tbh.

      Rusty Shovel Because that's what sells, i.e. Call of Duty, Overwatch, PUBG, Destiny, Fallout 4(love or hate it), TC: Rainbow Six Siege, Doom.... see the pattern? If the majority had actually gave a shit about New Vegas it would have sold way more than it did and Obsidian wouldn't have resorted to Kickstarter to survive. Oh and now it comes out Microsoft cancelled another title that just happened to have Obsidian working on it which seems to be the norm with Obsidian and well what Black Isle Studios dealt with, cancellation after cancellation. Seems to me a "triple A developer" like Obsidian wouldn't suffer so much if they were truly this beloved. Truth is the majority of gamers don't give a shit about New Vegas, only losers who bang their dick's and elbows on their keyboard in anger because they have no life period. It's sad pathetic gamers who still whine and bitch about Bethesda and Fallout 4 that give gamers a bad name, grow up and get the fuck over it like a man and quit acting like little whiny pussies.

    • @Punchyzen
      @Punchyzen 7 лет назад +18

      I see no melee or unarmed, which is accurate. Only five unarmed weapons (all attack the same slow one handed attack) and at max unarmed a critical paralyzing palm in power armor makes you default pose and not attack. Unarmed bonuses don't apply half the time in power armor with arm mods too. Criticals are based off of VATS which are unusable in power armor. Even if you block enemy attacks they recover fast enough that you can't counter them, forcing VATS usage (no Scribe Counter). Thanks Bethesda.
      No pushy, no two step goodbye, no ballistic fist, no greased lightning, no special learnable moves aside from crit, nothing fun or interesting.

    • @Refloni
      @Refloni 7 лет назад +27

      There is an explanation for the caps being currency, although I'm not sure which game explained it. The Brotherhood of Steel destroyed the gold reserves of NCR in the BoS-NCR war, so they had to go back to the bottlecaps (backed by water instead of gold) and abandon new dollars. That's why caps are money in New Vegas. I'm not sure why caps are money in East Coast, maybe they just adopted bottlecaps because they were shiny. Most people are idiots in Bethesda's games after all.

    • @DJWeapon8
      @DJWeapon8 7 лет назад +16

      Yeah I know about the whole NCR-BoS war and them destroying the Republic's gold reserves. That's why NCR paper money is worth less than caps.

      I agree with everything BUT I don't recall any "random" encounters, as in randomly generated in New Vegas. FO3 (and 4) have trigger points in the wasteland where one of generated events will appear. NV only has set encounters at certain triggers. Granted they feel random at first, but after a couple plays it feels less like a roll dice then it did it in 3 (and even 4, even though the mods are the only redeemable factor.)

    Really? Guns is what Bethesda tried to do well?
    Bethesda doesn't even have that going for them. In Fallout 3, the hunting rifle fires a 32 caliber pistol round. In Fallout 4, the combat "rifle" fires a 45. ACP round. The assault rifle is water cooled. The "default" hunting rifle has a pistol grip. Don't even try to figure out how the combat shotgun is supposed to work.
    Putting aside that Bethesda actually knows nothing about how guns work (unlike Obsidian), they also put fewer base weapons into the game, and took out different ammo types. This, coupled with the fact that the modding system makes all of the weapons feel the same, means that while the actual gunplay in F4 is more advanced, the process of finding and using new weapons becomes a lot less exciting.

    • @NatrajChaturvedi
      @NatrajChaturvedi 7 лет назад +10

So many are saying that Fallout 4 was a failure and say they won't buy another installment. Since the Fallout IP has way too much potential I don't see them trying to sell it either. This is why I believe the Creation Club was implemented to see if they could find a new way to continue making money from the Fallout IP, but seeing as the vocal majority has again denounced it I don't think we'll be seeing any new additions to that either. They already began rolling out discounts and even sold some of the CC content for free. Its a sign that the Fallout franchise will more then likely be shelved in the coming years. I don't suspect a new installment will come for at least 10 years, and that's if we're lucky.

    Fallout 3 isn't that great, especially compared to the others in the franchise, but god damn: Bethesda had a lot of passion pouring into it. It may not have been put in the right places (passion) but they had it, no doubt.
    If I remember correctly, over 90% of the concept art for Fallout 3 was by Adam Adamowicz, except like two or three digitally painted landscapes. Adam's artwork is really stunning and it feels like I'm playing a really zany, comic book-esquire spin off video game by him more so than a true to lore obsidian style game. (RIP Adam Adamowicz)
    TL;DR
    Pros of FO3 - Art direction and relative innovation for the franchise
    Cons - Horrendous main story and sometimes limited character choices (Okay, maybe a lot)
    Pros of NV - way better story and original creators touches
    Cons - ...Ulysses was annoying, I guess.

I began to like the world of New Vegas way more after playing it a bit, getting over my hatred of deserts. It sounds funny, but it really goes to show how far player choice goes, and I really hope it's more of a primary focus for Bethesda in the future. Fallout 4 felt very restricting pretty frequently, when it came to approaching a situation with different angles and paths.

      That is true, though after the successful crowdfunding of Pillars of Eternity, Obsidian announced this year that they will stop developing Armored Warfare and give back that IP to Illfonic.
      It's also the fact that Obsidian is a completely independent game developer that has worked with multiple publishers(including Bethseda) for decades. Obsidian is also probably avoiding Bethseda for publishing due to the 18 month deadline on New Vegas and how they almost didn't get paid due to such deadline.
      Chris Avellone left to work with inXile Enterainment, which developed Wasteland 2 two years ago. Both Obsidian and InXile are pretty close friends apparently but going through Bethseda's owned Fallout again would be almost masochistic due to how Bethseda has treated Obsidian with New Vegas.

No matter how much they whine about Fallout 4, the next Fallout game will never be as good as they want it to be. It's because of this pussified generation that Half-Life 3 will never be made.

      SevenStarSamurai thinking you're getting a game based off the core gameplay of previous games in the series is not entitlement, it's purchasing logic. The whole reason the new games are called fallout is to associate them with a series of good RPGs, so expecting them to have similarly good RPG elements is right, because that's what it's advertised as.

      Lazy Poo Yet the transition from what Fallout 1 and 2 was as an "RPG" had already begun with Interplay who had already changed it into action RPG and wanted to make it into an MMO so I'm very sure the Fallout "fanbase" could already tell they weren't getting that back in 1999 and it's pure stupidity to think that Bethesda would just outright copy or continue Obsidian's style of Fallout since a good number of reviewers at the time NV was released felt like it was just an expansion instead of a standalone game. It's easy to go back now and compare the two say NV is more of a Fallout game than Fallout 4, but who was saying New Vegas was a true Fallout game back when it was released? Noone was. It was Fallout done in Bethesda's style and hardly anyone gave any notice to Obsidian being part of the development team and who Obsidian even was and New Vegas didn't have this "love" then that it does now, so to say that people were expecting this so called "core" gameplay is incorrect. I would say that Bethesda's success with TES:V Skyrim gave them the confidence that they could add a more personal story to the Fallout series that fans of Fallout 3,NV, and more importantly TES would enjoy. Have you seen any youtuber bitch about Skyrim and "player choice" 6 years later or the fact that you're the Dragonborn? If so, link it. So yeah I'd say it's entitled butthurt crybabies who would bitch about anything and everything like how some still bitch about not being able to kill kids in Fallout. Now tell me how that part of the "core" gameplay would fare in today's society when GTA is the centerpiece for VG violence and the overused clip of your character killing a hooker and getting the money back? With all the school shootings over the years all over the world and VG being the sole reason for this and gamers classified as being worse than Isis and Nazi's do you think the "core" gameplay of killing kids should be used? More reasons to make gamers look like pieces of shit, basement dwelling losers, and hatefull racist cunts.

      To be honest, Bethesda's world design is boring, especially Fallout 3. They had spammed metro tunnels, copy paste buildings, and generic countryside. New Vegas had a desert with a quarry mine, multiple independent communities, NCR bases, pillaged towns...etc. it was a desert filled with hidden goodies. Obsidian literally drove to the Mojave desert just so they could make the desert.

    Well of course Bethesda and Obsidian would have a noticeable creative difference. Not only are they two separate companies, but this video just points out how Bethesda had to face a lot of obstacles and complexities when transitioning from fallout 2 to fallout 3. Obsidian had more freedom and thus had the ability to make a "better game" (don't get me wrong, FONV is my favorite by far). Todd Howard even mentioned how they had to compensate for the switch from melee to gun combat (oblivion to FO3). It discredits the entire additional universe Bethesda helped create with fallout by saying Bethesda can't make a great game. They can just like obsidian, and they also opened the gates for a wonderful franchise.

    People always insult bethesda specifically todd and pete. But let me tell you something. Those guys actually care about the games they make and market. Bethesda could have morrowind tear quality in the games they make if it wasn't for emil. Emil is a manipulative psychopath that forces todd to do his bidding. I remember i was sitting in on a usual saturday design overview meeting during the development of skyrim. Todd and emil was there discussing changing the combat system (Small stuff like animation and flow). Todd had this great idea to totally revamp the design of combat changing the entire system. He had pretty much everyone at the table agreeing until emil jumped in insulting the idea. Oh todd that would take too long!, Oh todd don't you want to make it simpler for more sales?!, Cmon guys since when has todd had a good idea. He totally changed everyones opinion. The dude is insane i swear. Todd try's to lift the spirits and overall moral of the team so they can increase productivity. But it's hard to when emil rules over new employees with an iron fist. Me and todd we're working out in the gym one day, We had just started a few weeks before and had made some good progress. Then fat emil walks in and starts subtly insulting me and todd. Of course we didn't think anything of it. Soon after emil comes in starts working out with us trying to hurt himself lifting 35 pound weights.

    Fallout 3 is a story that Bethesda came up with based on the themes of the original Fallout's? Did I hear that right?
    The first 2 Fallout games both have many themes floating around as they explore the post apocalypse setting they created, but generally speak each of them focuses on one major theme with the others being relegated to more minor roles.
    Fallout 1's primary theme is about how no matter the situation Humanity will fight and struggle against each other, but that is what makes humanity so resilient. No matter where you go there are always conflicting groups pushing against each other from the micro scale of Killian and Gizmo of Junktown all the way up to the macro scale of The Master's Army vs. every other human/ghoul in the Wasteland. Also it's about the struggle of getting pure water in a post apocalypse but that's really more a catalyst of the setting than a theme.
    Fallout 2's primary theme is about how humanity will forcibly separate itself into groups even when the differences are minuscule in order to create conflict between each other. You see it in Vault City's segregation of non-Vault Citizens and their immense hatred of Ghouls, you see in Broken Hills how Marcus and some other Super Mutants realized trying to fight with humans was pointless and in Vault 13 how the intelligent Deathclaws were able to live peacefully with humans that accepted them. Then the Enclave's insane plan comes in where they are actually going to commit genocide against the entire country for being "mutants" using a modified virus that attacks the irrelevant genetic differences between them and the Enclave. Also you find a GECK.
    Fallout 3's is about finding a GECK to get pure water. Also the President of the Enclave wants to use a modified virus to commit genocide against the "mutants" of the Wasteland. Real original there guys. Not only is it a direct copy of elements from Fallout 1 and 2, it's only the surface level elements at that, completely missing the underlying themes. Granted Fallout 3 does sort of have a theme about how people will all fight to accomplish the same thing just to say they did it first and have control of it, but it kind of feels like that's incidental because no one in the game ever mentions it or even slightly hints at it, it's just sorta what ends up happening between the Enclave, your dad, and the BoS.

    I'm so confused on why people have to hate on any of these games, they are all great. All this video did is show how bethesda had to make the engine both of them run on, and having to overcome the issues with the two game genres clashing. Then how obsidian had to change it up and build upon what they made to create their own game. whats the issue with either. Everyone needs to calm down and just enjoy games for what they are.

    Both companies have good ideas, but they're focusing on different aspects. Bethesda wants to make the more "actiony" parts of the game more fun, to improve things like gunplay, while Obsidian wants to stress player choice and writing. What we need is a game where Bethesda focuses on the nuts and bolts of making gameplay advancements for an RPG, but Obsidian looks after things like story, worldbuilding, dialogue, and player choice.
