BRO! The MCU started out good. Even tho they race swapped some of the characters in the earlier movies they were still well writtern. Take Nick Fury for example. But now it's mostly all about checkboxes. As long as they have a POC or HDTV character then it's all well and good. No effort goes into the stories. No to mention they intentionally emasculate the OGs. They didn't have to trample on the original Avengers' legacy to prop up the new ones.
It’s sad how some of the best new games I’ve played are indie games (Fears to Fathom for example). These big companies don’t give a damn about us and it SHOWS
I've been playing the new astro bot game recently and man does that game take me back to where all video games were like that instead of how most video games are like today
Exactly what I'm thinking. Online gaming was exploited to line the pockets of people, and I guess most companies couldn't resist. Remember when Epic made bangers like Gears of War and Infinity Blade?
The real thievery is this: Why pay $60 dollars (or more) for a game that's 100% digital? No case, no booklet, no DVD/Blu-ray, very little return policy. Can't re-sell it. Can't give it to a friend. Indies understand this and price in the $20-35 range.
The central core issue is it became a profitable industry. Nowadays, the people owning these big, publicly traded companies aren't developers or game designers like it was way back when, it's investors who invite their investor friends to buy their way into key roles and they hire people with the same profit and growth mindset as them for middle-management, which leaves the actual designers, programmers, artists and so on with their hands completely tied. I wouldn't even be surprised if I was told most developers never gave a fuck about games in the first place anyway, since almost everything I see concerning tech is about getting a job. Anyone with passion would've burned it out ages ago or gone indie to keep some level or artistic integrity. The AAA gaming industry is no longer about making games, it's about making money and it's headed by a bunch of people more interested in driving up stock prices through feigned growth and fancy buzzwords than in games. If you told me someone like Bobby Kotick had ever played a game, I'd want some pretty solid proof before I'd believe you.
16:40 I heard they even spent dev time making a "blind" mode. Not *color blind* like they ACTUALLY spent dev time making it so that a blind person could supposedly play the game.
One issue I have with the "fix it later" mentality is that it's not even financially worth it for companies to fix it later because they already have your money.
@@drrockstar4040 That goes with my last point is that the consumers must learn how to not spend. And the company should try to give their best effort even if the game does well at launch.
Video idea: games you've enjoyed recently, even if the list ends up being all indie or remakes/re releases. AAA gaming has definitely been on a downward trend for over a decade now, but they only make up a fraction of game titles that have been released in recent years, they just have the biggest names.
Regarding the broken/unfinished games angle: I feel like it should be the platform owners' responsibility to ensure the games developed for their consoles are up to a certain level of quality. Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo should be outright penalizing developers/publishers for releasing broken products. I doubt Microsoft and Sony were thrilled about having to issue refunds for Cyberpunk 2077. I mean hell, Sony did punish CDPR for that little stunt of theirs. I just don't understand why this isn't the norm.
The Max Payne mechanics really were game changing when it came out and still are now. They cannibalized that game to make everything else but never gave it any love for doing so much for gaming in general. I hated how the multiplayer was in that game because I would get whooped all the time and after months of trying, I realized that the reason I sucked was that I was used to unrealistic fast paced shooters where you take 10 hits before you die and that game did not play that.and after I came to that realization, I loved it! Problem was that by that point the game was already dying and it was getting harder to find a lobby. As far as 2K goes, I still play 2K14 and love every second of it.
I started playing more single players instead of the typical NBA 2k. And I’ve been enjoying them more and more. I can boot up cyberpunk and drive around and lose myself and the world I’m not expecting much from the world but I’m able to make my own fun.
5:10 live service is definitely my least favorite trend of modern gaming. Yeah, its *kinda* cool to follow a game's development in early access, but when a game is intentionally released incomplete its just disappointing. Kirby Star Allies is probably the best example I can think of this being a problem. Like, Kirby is always a banger, but that's definitely the franchise's most lackluster outing. It was in that weird time early in the switch's life when Nintendo thought that was a good idea, this is also what killed ARMS from the outset.
I love your point about the creative aspect of gaming being basically dead. I think another factor we have to account for, is the whole BIG BUDGET. These devs get the mindset they are too big to fail because they own a certain IP, they get told “hey we need to make X game” and that is it there are no risk taken or restrictions put in place for the devs and when you have no restrictions it’s hard to be creative because ANYTHING goes, creativity is always bred from restrictions or constraints In all, it’s hard to think outside the box when there’s no box. That’s why older devs were much better because they had to work with what was given and CREATE new ways to do things. Everything is formulaic these days.
I think the biggest problem with AAA games (like most Triple AAA studios) right now is EGO. EA, Activision, Ubisoft, 2K, same thing. I don’t want to spend my money paying $70 to buy a game that promised everyone, but instead, it’s too much. I think the gaming industry is waiting for a “Crash” to happen (referencing to the gaming industry crash of 1983). AA games is the future. Every studio need to understand that people are not going to be mampy pambied with too many ideas. Also, another big problem is Summer Games Fest and Game Awards. The era of gaming conventions is dead now that E3 is no longer with us anymore (it’s a shame because E3 was the end all be all convention that everyone hypes up for the biggest surprises and upcoming games in the future. It’s been nearly 30 years since the first E3 and I’ll never forget the PS1 $299 price drop. Yes, The iconic 3 numbers that derailed Sega’s much-hyped Saturn console into oblivion as the PS1 was a revolution). About the game awards, I can’t take Geoff Keighley seriously. Remember how he announces Concord at SGF 2023? And guess how that turned out. Exactly dead on arrival before it could ever compete in the world of live-service games. Keighley needs to step down as host and let a game developer (not a celebrity) to host the show.
The fact that so many great games from the 6th and 7th gen are available used for under $10 that are way better than current gen $100 plus games is mind blowing
The one thing that annoys me the most about AAA studios is the waste of talent. The game devs in these companies aren't thinking "Oh, we're adding a paid battlepass and microtransactions to a full price game because that's what our fans would LOVE". They're being told to do that by higher ups, because they would rather make mediocre games that drain the wallets of their customers than live out on the street. The reason why a lot of games come out in a broken state is because developers are overworked and burnt out, I would be to if I had to pump out games yearly.
I remember crying foul when the horse armor DLC came out for Oblivion back in the day, and people would say "You're just overexaggerating." Here we are years later, and what I feared with the horse armor DLC is exactly what happened with the gaming industry.
Don't blame developers. It's mostly the fault of publishers. Publishers set the deadlines and decide when a game should release. Publishers are filled with suits that don't understand games at all and only think about money. Publishers always have the final say in what a game is. The suits have dollar signs in their eyes and demand micro-transactions and watered down gameplay to appeal to the widest possible audience. Developers are just overworked people with a publisher above them who doesn't trust them at all and don't give a shit about their well-being or the result of their work. When a game is bad it's almost always because it was rushed or because it tries to scam you with micro-transactions. And publishers are the ones that decide to release unfinished games and demand to add micro-transactions.
There was a tonne of variety in the PS3/360/Wii generation and thats all gone now. It was much easier to make a profitable game back in those days. We will never get back to that same vibe in gaming again.
One thing I'll mention is the feminization of gaming has always been a thing. MGS2, which came out in 2001, literally tricked and lied to its players that you'd be playing as Snake through the whole game, switched him it out of nowhere after the prologue and had you play as an effeminate blonde dude who's gf constantly nagged him all game and to this day people love MGS2. It's not about what's in the game, its the execution.
You nailed it. From the voice to music levels, from the gameplay to the information shown, from the writing to final editing. Everything you said was so on point that i may not like racing games too much, being a FPS/COD only player but i stayed to the end to see and pay attention to it all. Thats how great content is made. Love and affection for what you like.
@@vHollywoodZay-I’ve gotten bored of gaming in 2020 after playing Black Ops Cold War. What I’ve done to not quit gaming was… going out of my comfort zone. Downloaded Persona 5 since it was free on PS+ and I had a blast with it. Now I have so many games to play I don’t even know where to begin
@@manwithoutmercy Streamers only contribute to this. I outright refuse to listen to them when they only play one or two games every year and my brother even told his friend to quit listening to these streamers too as they're all full of crap. This is why they waste money on games that come out broken, full of microtransactions, full of woke propaganda, etc. yet they never stop.
Honestly, I think gaming is dying for us because we're getting old. I'm 35. In the prime time years imo of online gaming (07-14), I was 19 through 25. The online friends I made, we didn't really have lives outside of either college or a job that we worked to simply buy games for. Well now, we're all older, with wives and children, and life has just caught up to us. Responsibilities and stress keep us from playing religiously, and when we do, there's usually enough on our minds to where we're not fully immersed like we were when we were those young carefree adults. These games now have insane quality, include everything we wished for when we were younger... It's just that we're older now. It sucks because that magic will never come back, but we have the memories, and emulation to preserve the older days.
I feel like this than I go back and play megaman and can’t put it down. Halo reach I’m playing for the first time and it’s amazing and don’t wanna stop. Even cyberpunk now that I’m finally giving it a shot is really good. It’s just games get overhyped now.
Here is what I've noticed. We wait longer for new IPs up to over a decade with comes out with less features despite it copying what already exists (Gotham Knights). We wait 5-7 years for a sequel only for it disappointing because its broke or the improvements are marginal to non existent (Marvel's spiderman 2). Big budgets for graphics? That crap is only good when you jump in for the first time after that you don't care the gameplay is what matters spiderman 2 or Gotham knights prioritizing graphics over performance especially the latter. Trend chasing... Yikes Gotham knights, Avengers and Suicide squad chasing the generic co-op, looter, and live services or rpg high. Ubisoft already ruined that sh*t with their rpg AC games. Gotham knights giving the same vibe turned me off immediately (devs who made it were from Ubisoft).
Nice video! I'm glad you mentioned Grid. It was the 1st game I got for the Xbox 360 back in the day. I fell out of the racing genre after losing countless hours of NFS Underground 2 on PS2 because of memory card corruption, but Grid got me back into racing games. Hell, I even went back and beat Underground 2 again. With a different memory card of course 😂.
I personally think that the main problem with modern gaming is the fact that most of games don't even have got enough time to innovate, like in any direction, like take Call Of Duty as an example, like damn, while playing new COD Black Ops 6 i literally felt like playing the same thing as in previous games, just with some better graphics, a little bit changed game mechanics and maps being a little bit diffrent than before, I don't think it's worth my time and money if i play the same thing. But when you go to older games, like Call of Juarez (R.I.P. CoJ btw) you can absolutely feel diffrence between every of the games, like these don't feel recycled at all, which is great, they feel fresh and I like it. I think making game from the ground up (Not like FM8 did) in the end wouldn't really hurt, because if games feel new and is actually pretty damn good, then people will play it, enjoy it and not refund it after playing for an hour. I know that it's buisness after all, but cmon, it feels like they just copy and paste most of the games, like couldn't they actually try something new, like nfs prostreet for example, it feels like an diffrent game, like damn even nfs undercover does feels like an diffrent game (yeah, it's controversial take, nfs mw fanboys would eat me alive if they saw that). Sorry if i made no sense typing this, i'm quite tired while typing this, have a good day/night
I downloaded the new cod game yesterday off gamepass and decided to give it a try because why not? I didn’t pay for it. I found myself honestly kinda enjoying my time. I hadn’t touched Cod since Cold War. So it’s been 4 years since I’ve played a new cod game. Vanguard looked booty and the 2 modern warfare games looked boring and uninspired. Maybe it’s because I haven’t touched the series since Cold War but I found the multiplayer experience enjoyable. They still need to improve some things for sure but I haven’t encountered anything yet that is super annoying or game breaking for me. I think that my experience is a good idea of how it would be beneficial to space the games out a few years. It surprisingly felt fresh to me which I know people that have been playing the past 3 entries have not shared the same opinion.
@@Sativsta, exactly. It was a perfect era. I believe it reached its peak around that time period. From 2016 onwards, it is visible that gaming started dying. They were choosing graphics over story and/or mechanics.
You were spitting nothing but straight facts the whole video. Plus with your humor, editing & pacing made this 50 minute video feel like catching up with an old friend. Glad to see Max Payne 3 get some love as well, Max Payne is one of my all times faves & can't wait for the remakes (I know, there's that lack of creativity with a remake but it's my one exception lol) Could you imagine how much chaos Manhunt 3 would create today with the content & graphics? No way in hell it gets made as much as I would love to play it. And I'd love another Midnight Club but I know CockBlockStar don't want anything to do with it. Plus I'm still finding diamonds in the rough even today in both AAA & indie titles so I'm still trying to view today's gaming landscape in a positive mindset despite the major glaring flaws you mentioned like agendas & lack of quality and substance in games nowadays. Anyways, good shit bro & keep up the good work. I'll def check out what you got cooking in the oven the next time you upload something 😂
I'll tell you it's like the old how many people does it take to screw in a light bulb joke. My family beggs me to fix their computers and electronics and my uncle to work on their cars. Why because we are old farts that learned to do the job right and check our work. I was not babied in school I had a teacher that taught electronics repair you asked him for help and he say "if you can't do it without my help then you don't need to be in my class" it's true in the real world you have to solve problems on your own he tought the basics and we went from there out of 30 people 5 graduated trial by fire. My favorite quote by him was, "Look in my eyes and see I if give a rip." Lesson learned.
Nothing but facts spoken in this video. Micro Transactions is the reason The PS4 was my last gaming “console”. IMO Steam Deck ‘like’ handhelds, FPGA Consoles are the future for the library of “great games” from the past.
Imo remasters are necessary if the games are inaccessible on modern platforms like MGS4. What I do hate is stuff like those Last of Us remakes/remasters
correct. that's what I'm saying every time. I'm making indie games for niche communities and only for a cult following and only play games like that because that's the best games.
@@vHollywoodZay- I'm making a custom game engine and have 1 game in the making that I have not released yet, and 2 other games, one story game and one game taking exactly all those points in the video that I have been thinking about all the time to heart, a game with the simplicity of old games like CS1.6 with a friend that came up with the idea. The first game will be a single player reverse bullet hell game called "Super Pong" with a very satisfying gameplay and cool risk reward systems, the story game will be called "Death" and I'm still writing the story, the third is just an idea and concept that we are working on and will flesh out before thinking of a theme. I'm making those games out of fun in my spare time.
@ Bro, your Suicide Squad video, you snapped on that shit. Had me rolling through the whole thing 🤣 I still play Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. Gotham Knights was trash, once I finished the main story I put the game down
Gaming didnt fall off its just that social media unfortunately points out the bad games much more than the good. There were some horrendous games in the 2000s but you ignored them and played the actually good games. Why not do the same now
I agree, look at the 7th generation for example, before a lot of people focused on the bad side, but nowadays everyone loves it to the point of forgetting the bad side, I think it will be the same for the 8th generation
I love this type of video. Very well made mate. I want to mention a game called Def Jam: Fight for NY, a celebrity/rapper fighting game made by EA in 2004. The game looks ambitious and quiet ahead of its time. Just imagine if the game came out today......... You may notice, most of the good games don't even need to have fancy graphics. The better/realistic graphic is = The less charm of what video game supposed to be. Oh don't get me start with a lot game came out recently have Fortnite'ish looking character model and graphics. And then insert DEI ideology stuff that appeals to no one. I hate that.
I will give an example and its Mortal Kombat 1. Dude i was so hyped about it (even tough i dont even have ps5 but keep mine ps2 lol) and when i first saw the gameplay it was wow... And then if we take the fatalities and gameplay everything is so dry. Like man Just add all the planned characters instead adding 10 more in 1 year. I was so dissapointed to see the maps, sountracks, some of the character designs and there isnt even Krypt. Why the hell yal removed the best part but instead throw random thing and get absolute garbage rewards?? And the most dissapointing thing is the game design itself like no i dont want landscape of beautifull forest or Mountain in game where you are fighting till death...
I can boil the gaming industry down to one unifying problem: They're made for the wrong reasons. Creepy ass propaganda, unbelievable amounts of greed, straight up stripping us of ownership (always online)... I didn't ask for *any* of this nonsense. I've been gaming ever since the PS2 days and my standards really haven't changed, nor are they very high. Is it good? Does it have a robust offline single player? Yes? I'm sold! But nah. These companies clearly don't want my money. Gotta appeal to that imaginary "modern audience" instead. Fools.
Pandering to the lowest common denominator is the inescapable endpoint of all game companies and this concept is why they will all eventually die. Ive said it many times and ill say it again: Normies. Ruined. Video Games.
@gaiatiful and the ironic counter poster who thinks he made some profound revelation about the guy calling it what it is when in reality he is what I'm talking about
the downfall of youtube channels is crazy, we have almost hour videos of grown men complaining about pixels on a screen that they decide to spend their money on
It truly fucking sucks how much gaming has declined all because of these greedy ass game developers wanting to squeeze out every dollar out of you with bs microtransactions. This current gen of gaming has to by far be the worst console generation of all time not just because of what I just said, but also from the lack of games that have been released.
I actually like this video. I played Spider-Man 2 and was so disappointed it had glitches in it the story was mid etc, I really loved the first Spiderman 1 game. Also 2k has been trash recently remember when it only cost 20 bucks for a build now it cost like 100 bucks and more for animations . Space marines, Steller blade all look decent. I also like black myth wukong I heard that game had glitches/bugs but I never experienced it. Also you mentioned rdr2 in your video and I love that game but man is the online not good.
Racing games are my jam and its insane how nobody talk about how little meat there is on the bone rn and how fucking gross it is Even big racing gamers dont seem to realise that the last really good big budget racing game came out in the xbox 360 days There is a few okay games out there but they havent been updated in years Right now were treated with a very safe forza every year, a confused need for speed every other year, forza horizon but made by ubisoft and once a generation we get a gran turismo Also mario kart just died sometime a decade ago apparently There is no reason for me to pick any other game than forza currently (except i wont even play that id rather play pgr2 or one of 40 different racing games that offer their own unique experience that came out in the 2000s) because they are all the same and forza is just floating on top as a result because of big budget and the fact they are the only ones that put out games lol
Games stopped being really cool after 2013 imo. There's still great games after that year of course, but from there on we saw a decline with every year. Around the beginning of the 8th generation I think is where it began. Games like destiny in 2014 really kicked off the dissapointing AAA games segment. Destiny sold so well and got away with its bad practices and grindy nature that other game studios would follow suit with their games. Next thing you know battle passes and more became more popular. However, those are only a few of the issues that led to some of the games we have today. Lets hope eastern game studios don't follow the wests kind of game development, although we can already see Japanese studios bending the knee. Anyway, great video. GT4 is truly a PS2 masterpiece. I can see myself playing it even 20 years from now. GT6 has the largest car list if I remember correctly, but the menus are uninspired and meh.
Project Gotham Racing and Driveclub got killed way too early. The only racing game that interests me now is Assetto Corsa but that's more of a sandbox like racing game. Its deadass sad how many racing game ips got killed off...
I will say GOW 2021 also had these DEI agenda enforced in it as well making kratos cry playing as artreus more than him and making Angrboda black these type of agendas are everywhere but i will say the one saving grace of games by Xbox is because they’re live service multiplayer games as long as the gameplay is fun you can ignore the messages for the most part but story driven cinematic games where dialogue plot and character design hold more weight than in any other genre these DEI agendas really kill the sales
@ im tired of these boring ass AAA games targeted for everyone, keep preaching bro, i miss the era when games were unique, when they took risks like with manhunt 1 and manhunt 2
Sports games been trash for years but at least we getting some heat with boxing games like undisputed coming out and then ea decided to be making a new fight night after we begged them for years and just ignored us, now they wanna make a game because they see a opening to make a lot of money but couldn’t do it when we wanted. All these companies care about money these days.

EDIT: why did this get hearted? I'm making the argument that watching your video is a shallow waste of time for things that most people already knew. I guess if you just appriciate criticism, that's great actually, but something tells me that's unlikely in the current state of youtube.
You’d be surprised that most people don’t know about this. But I respect the fact that you have genuine criticisms. I can respect that at the end of the day even if I may not agree with it.
I saw a picture of 343's staff compared to bungie... 343 is all female... possibly she/her, they... but either way. That explains Master Chief. This video hits all the marks. I full heartedly agree with it all.
And nothing will change as long as people keep paying, this industry needs a massive crash and healing time that would only be possible if people stop buying battle passes and digital coins and DLCs.

In all, it’s hard to think outside the box when there’s no box.
The need for speed brought me always back to the need for speed series
The fact that so many great games from the 6th and 7th gen are available used for under $10 that are way better than current gen $100 plus games is mind blowing
I hate how most of these industry has become. No I'm going independent like I am playing an indie game.
I remember crying foul when the horse armor DLC came out for Oblivion back in the day, and people would say "You're just overexaggerating."
Here we are years later, and what I feared with the horse armor DLC is exactly what happened with the gaming industry.
@@Gliiitchy Lol I remember that horse armor DLC. I was thinking about putting that in the video
And publishers are the ones that decide to release unfinished games and demand to add micro-transactions.
what a evil world we live in now.
We're livin' in a world that will soon be dyin'
your writing was so good you got me playing grand turismo 4 just for all those tracks and cars
Lol
There was a tonne of variety in the PS3/360/Wii generation and thats all gone now. It was much easier to make a profitable game back in those days. We will never get back to that same vibe in gaming again.
I still like modern gaming even though most of my time is spent on retro gaming
Same here
One thing I'll mention is the feminization of gaming has always been a thing.
@@AsymmetricalCrimes I agree. I just feel like it wasn’t used as a way to send a message that they were attempting to push in our faces

The cure is to play everything and get out of your comfort zone. Between adventure games, JRPGs and so on there is so much to play
This is definitely true
@@vHollywoodZay-I’ve gotten bored of gaming in 2020 after playing Black Ops Cold War. What I’ve done to not quit gaming was… going out of my comfort zone. Downloaded Persona 5 since it was free on PS+ and I had a blast with it. Now I have so many games to play I don’t even know where to begin
Yeah I feel like the people that say gaming is dying play nothing but cod and FIFA. Can’t take them seriously
Chapter 1 Fortnite was genuinely the last good gaming era
I'd argue early 2010's as well. MGR was one of the best games I have ever played in terms of combat and story without sounding cringe or emo.
Agreed I’d say 2000- around 2013 or so
@@Sativsta, exactly.

Glad to see Max Payne 3 get some love as well, Max Payne is one of my all times faves & can't wait for the remakes (I know, there's that lack of creativity with a remake but it's my one exception lol)
Could you imagine how much chaos Manhunt 3 would create today with the content & graphics? No way in hell it gets made as much as I would love to play it. And I'd love another Midnight Club but I know CockBlockStar don't want anything to do with it. Plus I'm still finding diamonds in the rough even today in both AAA & indie titles so I'm still trying to view today's gaming landscape in a positive mindset despite the major glaring flaws you mentioned like agendas & lack of quality and substance in games nowadays.

Great video I wish you talked about shooting games more though. Army of Two was a classic
Army of Two was a goated game franchise
This is a great video my dude. Keep up the great work 🔥

Fools.

There is no reason for me to pick any other game than forza currently (except i wont even play that id rather play pgr2 or one of 40 different racing games that offer their own unique experience that came out in the 2000s) because they are all the same and forza is just floating on top as a result because of big budget and the fact they are the only ones that put out games lol
