Having seen and heard Ella in person with a famous driving big band at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis in I think it was October of 1956 I became forever after a rabid fan. She was simply amazing. She could sing ANYTHING and DID! That night she sang a hit rock song on the charts by Lillian Briggs, "I Want You To Be My Baby," and brought the house down. She was always so self-effacing and shy-seeming but in truth she knew exactly what she was doing and was fully aware she was a genius.
Wonderful, just wonderful. Thank you Ella and Joe. I never got to see Ella live but I was fortunate enough to see Joe Pass live back in 1990 in Muskegon, Michigan. Jeez, the man sounded like he was two guitars.
It doesn't get any better than this. Ella and Joe: two musical masters plying their trade (talent). One with her anglelic voice and the other with his magical fingers on guitar. Ken, Toronto
This is what you will hear in HEAVEN, don't like, well then maybe you'll have to go elsewhere. "Billie is my Soul, but Ella is the Queen of the world." Luv u Ella~
You turned the tables on me And now I'm falling for you You turned the tables on me I can't believe that it's true I always thought when you brought The lovely present you brought Why hadn't you brought me more But now if you'd come I'd welcome anything From the five and ten cent store You used to call me the top You put me up on a throne You let me fall with a drop And now I'm out on my own But after thinking it over and over I got what was coming to me Just like the sting of a bee You turned the tables on me You used to call me the top You put me up on a throne You let me fall with a drop And now I'm out on my own But after thinking it over and over I got what was coming to me Just like the sting of a bee You turned the tables on me
THE BEST !!!!! THE BEST !!!!!! THE BEST, EVER !!!!!! DAMN, JUST,,,,,,,,,,UH,,,,,,,,,THE BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,today's Black music audience probably never even heard of Ella. Probably, wouldn't understand her. Sometimes, living a long life, has it's drawbacks.
Okay i think i might be going crazy but does anyone else hear a tiny voice singing the lines right before she does at the very beginning of the song? The volume has to be like all the way up
Jesus Christ that shit has been bothering me for years, I think it is her own monitor/microphone playing the exact notes right before she has to fall in. Maybe to help the old lady a little bit? Hahaha
This actually happens sometimes if the recording is on magnetic tape, a little bit of audio from a few moments before or after can bleed onto another section of tape if the two sections are next to each other when the tape is rolled up.

I’ve always been in love with singer/guitar duets…joe & Ella are one of the best of those duets

Amazing! She was pushing 60 here, and her voice was just as fresh and beautiful as always!
ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! Ella was the MASTER. She could do it all, and this song and arrangement is just further proof of it. FANTASTIC!

Effortlessly sublime! Is there anything better?

enchanting
You turned the tables on me
And now I'm falling for you
You turned the tables on me
I can't believe that it's true
I always thought when you brought
The lovely present you brought
Why hadn't you brought me more
But now if you'd come
I'd welcome anything
From the five and ten cent store
You used to call me the top
You put me up on a throne
You let me fall with a drop
And now I'm out on my own
But after thinking it over and over
I got what was coming to me
Just like the sting of a bee
You turned the tables on me
You used to call me the top
You put me up on a throne
You let me fall with a drop
And now I'm out on my own
But after thinking it over and over
I got what was coming to me
Just like the sting of a bee
You turned the tables on me
Os dois arrasam... Perfeito!
Rest in Peace Ms.Ella
Qué maravilla!
Magnífica Ella

Ella Fitzgerald est ma chanteuse préférée en dehors du Brésil.

Proof as to why Frank was giddy in her presence.

Yes you ‘re not crazy but this happens indeed with tape recordings ..
Its a cadance to her voice
Words Mean things. Just think about the word "DUETS" What does that mean?
Joe is NOT singing . That is what makes this Duet so Spectacular IMO
