And that love is why I’m building my own version of a 20 foot , shallow-V , wooden runabout , but as an outboard powered vessel !!! … it’ll incorporate elements of Chris-Craft , Lyman and Century boats
That picture of you as a young boy is just wonderful. You were such a good looking little fellow. It was a hint of things to come as you are a very handsome guy. This was a great video. It brings back many memories for me as my Dad always had a boat and he and I would do all of the maintenance. He was an auto mechanic for Cadillac and I became quite a good painter. I miss those days. They were the best years of my life and I didn’t even know it. Thank You
I really enjoyed this, your Dad was a hell of a craftsman. My father passed away at 79 four days after yours, it's odd adjusting to his absence ,9 months later I still get the urge to have our daily call.
When he said "what's next?", I literally thought "well you've got to tow it, don't you?" Lmao. Of course I have the same affliction. 1954 CC Holiday, 1951 Ford Custom Coupe. Good video. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful. Rings close to home for me. My first boat as a young man in the mid 80s was a 26 foot wooden Carver. Still boating now on lake simcoe and the Trent Severn waterway in a newer Carver but miss my first love, the wood Carver. Thanks for the great video. From Jim in Ontario Canada.
Well this was just wonderful! What a special journey. We just began our own story by purchasing a 1963 46' constellation. We are overwhelmed and so in love with her. Thank you for sharing!
I love old wood boats . My grandfather had wooden cruisers when I was growing up in the 60's ,it was great staying on them for a week or so while school was out . Utches marina in Cape May N.J. . As much as I loved them I never owned one . Seems like I always let someone talk me out of getting one , plus I can't concentrate on one thing at a time ,DUH. It must be nice to be focused . Very nice boat. Thanks for showing it.
Great Video. My dad had a 58 Chris Craft similar to this, and did some restoration work. He is 92 and I showed him this video and it really brought back memories. Nice job documenting 25 years of history and the love of this boat!
Doug, what a tribute to your dad. This is a beautiful video. Once someone has passed, having such an amazing tribute that documents their passion and time through the years is a blessing and a treasure. It was interesting to watch. Thank you!
Beautifully done. I must say that 2 layers of marine plywood glued together is easier and better and more dimensionally stable than 3 layers of planking glued together since each plywood piece has at least 3 layers thus 6 fine laminated layers which are more split resistant and long term dimensional. The video itself is more professional than local television stations.
Beautiful boat, beautiful story. I am restoring a 1964 Chris Craft Corsair. One of the first fiberglass boats that Chris Craft built. The lines are similar to this boat, although the Corsair is stern drive.
What a great video Doug. You have a wonderful talent with film making. Your dad is lucky to have such a wonderful video that your family will be able to cherish for many years. Your dad did a great job on the boat!
The connection one has to a project like this is sometimes hard to put into words. Only the ones that venture down it’s restoration path truly feel the connection. Amazing story and a beautiful restoration!! Thank you for documenting and sharing his story. It’s the people like your father that inspired me to restore my Chris Craft. Finally Lives On!!!!
Alston, I couldn't have said it any better. I've been down that road. I'm 65 now & this is such a touching story to me I cry everytime I watch it. Thanks Mr.& Mrs.Kenny
What a beautiful tribute to passion, dedication, patience. A beautiful story that goes much deeper than the boat itself. Nice images. Really cool video.
Nicely done video and a beautiful job on the boat. We have a 17' 1964 Super Sport that is in year 10 of its restoration. I thought I was looking at some of my own photos when the "in progress" shots were shown. I feel inspired to push on with my own project. Thank you.... I think.
Really great video. Great videography and editing, and most of all, just an all around beautiful and inspiring story. The boat turned out pretty flawless. It's a true testament to your father's tenacity and determination. I know you must be proud of him, as you should be. Thank for sharing this special story with us.
what 51 subscribers? I thought you will have at least 100K. Excellent edited video Very nice Family Perfect boat Your father has so many friends with boats I would love to watch their stories! Greetings from Greece
This is awesome ; I still have lots of craftsman knowledge techniques from been working on classic and antique boats either 5200 and epoxy bottoms such a good expirience in my life !
I do not own a boat but I did find plans of a full size Chris craft boat found someone to scale it down to build from scratch a mini Chris craft boat that can be taken to several places also be small enough to get to places a full size boat can’t say crabbing or fishing where nobody dares to go, it will be tons of fun.
Deciding to restore a wooden boat is not a decision to be taken lightly. We fall in love with the boat before we even get it in the water. It’s a thing of beauty and it pulls at your heartstrings like just about nothing else. Certainly no other inanimate object can come close. It joins us with our need for putting our hands to a project. It joins with our need to connect with nature. It joins us to our life’s spirit - just because….. In my case it arose quietly out of stories from my Childhood. Stories of a Great Grandfather who served in the light service. Stories of my mother’s being with her Dad as he went on jobs to repair boats. A sense of life in a harbor town that I never experienced but heard it in my heart nevertheless. Then as a newly married young man my Mother happened to suggest we go to an Antique Boat Show in a nearby town. As we walked along the row of gleaming wood cruisers my heart recognized a yearning that it couldn’t quite place before. My Mother confided to me, almost conspiratorially, that she had always wanted one. That moment I resolved to get one of those wooden cruisers myself. 30 years would go by before I was finally able to make that happen. But I never stopped thinking about it and looking for one. In fact 20 yrs earlier I had acquired a Century Runabout that needed a lot of work, more than I thought I could do and so it sat and never got restored. But then in 2010 I found a 1960 Chris Craft Constellation that caught my eye and my imagination. It was 36’ and my Mother had always said that she wouldn’t go out on the Lakes in anything less than 36’. And by Lakes, she meant the Great Lakes. She was born and raised in Munising on the shores of Lake Superior. So I purchased this boat that caught my heart, sight unseen, via the Internet and clear across the country in Seattle. So I had it inspected and agreed to complete the purchase and arranged for it to be shipped back to its birthplace in Michigan. This began the saga which continues even today!!
Beautiful boat, very inspirational! Would like to ask about your varnishing technique with applying varnish. Your looks great! What varnish did you use?
This is my kind of guy. Big boys and toys. I’m right there with you.
There's nothing like a wood Chris Craft. Nothing. Grew up around every imaginable lake boat imaginable. Thank you for the love.
And that love is why I’m building my own version of a 20 foot , shallow-V , wooden runabout , but as an outboard powered vessel !!! … it’ll incorporate elements of Chris-Craft , Lyman and Century boats
This is my Favorite video, I'd give it a thumbs up Everytime i watch it if I could!!!❤❤❤ Such A Great Story!

I would have like more photos of the boat, especially the interior.
What a beauty.

You have to be committed to be a wood boat owner. My dad bought lived on a 1960 45' Richardson try cabin. More work than a house. Fun beautiful.
Beautiful
Victor L. Fazio III thank you!
Inspirational…
Inspiring story. Thanks. I am about to embark on a similar impossibility in re birthing a 1953 Chris Craft Corsair 45 with a ton of issues.
greenmeanh1 Thank you!! Good luck with your restoration.
Did she just bang it against the dock immediately after launching?? 😰 9:11
Great job , coming from a boat builder 👍🏻
Thanks Darren!
Nice work! RWB ❤🎉

Wow, a boat. On the water..Earth shaking

Thanks for sharing your story!! So glad you resonate with the passion of boat restoration.
Music is gorgeous - I didn't see attribution or mention of that? I'd like to find and follow the artist/s.
What a beautiful tribute! Btw what’s the name of the lake in Florida?
Somebody told me once this, somewhere, and I believe it! " A boat is just a hole in the water, you just throw money in!"
Beautiful boat, very inspirational! Would like to ask about your varnishing technique with applying varnish. Your looks great! What varnish did you use?
Sorry, just seeing this comment now Ted. My dad said: "I like Epifane products. Excellent high gloss and good flow ability."
Beautiful job, what lake was the boat on?
That was on the Harris chain of lakes near Tavares, Florida!
Stop the music please . The sound of the motor is so beautiful !
1:02 Awesome
Thanks Robert!
11:28 No comment, Next Question 😂🤣👍
