    Good looking boat shed. Looks almost Scandinavian! Automotive bondo and carpenter's drywall screws! Who knew. I am enjoying all the discoveries with you. Thanks for the work putting these videos too!

    If it was me I would replace the whole transom. All the boards. It was a real mess. I can’t believe the non marine materials used. My favorite Chris Craft boat is either a Capri or a Riviera.

      Keeping original wood is important to my process if possible and still viable structurally. I think the near end result shown in last week’s episode with 2 coats of varnish so far shows it to be the correct decision. Had I replaced those boards, what is available now would definitely not have the same look as what was readily available in 1955. At least not within the budget I’m working under. Thanks for being aboard the WBE!

    Bondo is suitable for Wood ,Plastic and Metal surfaces. Been used In the Furniture industry for decades. Yes, you can use it for wood, it just doesn't look very good unless you are going to paint or cover the area.

    • @glassgoat9601
      @glassgoat9601  2 года назад

      It is NOT suitable to be used in wooden boats as it absorbs water and causes rot. There are marine products that are acceptable though which can be found.

      @@glassgoat9601 Not True, It's even advertised on their website "for use on boats."

      Believe what you want, it includes talc which absorbs water, it is not suitable for boats, especially below the waterline and that is all of the discussion I will be having about the subject.

      @@glassgoat9601 Wood absorbs water, you shouldn't use it for a boat. But, That's why sealant is applied over the wood. Use a sealant. Especially below the water line

    I’d replace the bottom two boards at the minimum ideally do them all and have a nice new transom. I bet you’ll find more rot if you pop the upper boards off.

    • @glassgoat9601
      @glassgoat9601  4 года назад

      Surprisingly there doesn't seem to be any rot as you go up higher on the transom. I believe this boat spent a lot of life in a boat house as there isn't the usual rot on the deck areas. I'm going to compromise with you and rip a couple of inches off of the second board at the bottom and replace below that. I have some nice boards off of a 1964 Luhrs that are going to be used. I really try to keep original boards when I can, or replace with reclaimed wood. Mostly for aesthetics. Thanks for watching!

    You should do a video of creating your enclosure/shop, making the sections then shrink wrapping it. A wood boat is like a piece of furniture left out to the weather with the same results. Wish I could enclose my boat. How long will the shrink wrap last?

    • @glassgoat9601
      @glassgoat9601  2 года назад +1

      If you go back through season 1 you will see everything to do with building and shrink wrapping the building. Shrink wrap is now over 2 years old and still doing well. I bought enough to do it twice. My plan is to put a fresh layer on next fall.

    OMG, I could hang out for days in that shop, what a collection they’ve got! Your shop turned out pretty nice and it looks as if you will have plenty of room for your restoration. I knew that was bondo when I saw it but couldn’t believe the drywall screws! Yup, you’ve got your work cut out that’s for sure and I am very interested to see the the process. Thanks again!

      My nephew is arriving soon to help me move and organize all of the extra parts, motors, wood etc into the boat shed. By tomorrow night we should be done, then I can move the boat off of the trailer and onto stands. Strangely enough, hardly any of those screws were rusted. I think the repairs may have been done shortly before they stopped using the boat and sold it to my friend, who kept it indoors in a dry wood shop. Info on the giveaway coming next episode, I'm working on the glass art now. Good to hear from you!!

      Amber & Nena Dalydisanto usually I would say it was either that or cut it up but clearly someone either didn’t care or didn’t know what they were doing.

      Shot more footage of it, may include it on an upcoming video. May wait till summer as I'll probably shoot that one on the water and in it.

    I am enthusiastic about your work, I have restored a CC Cavallier from 1962 for the past 3.5 years and I can feel it very well!
    I am Thomas and come from near Berlin / Germany!
    I wish you lots of fun and good luck!
    I will follow everything!
    Greetings Thomas, Schnarri for friends too!

      @@glassgoat9601 In Germany we always think a little smaller than you in the States, that's why I only have a 54 HP VW Diesel in my boat, because we are only allowed to drive 12km / h (around 6.5 knots) on our waters, which is quite sufficient !
      Greetings Schnarri!

      @@Schnarris_Kanal I'd love to see a photo(s) of that diesel installation. That 12km/h speed limit really cuts down on the waterskiing :) We had a 10 MPH speed limit on the river that I grew up on, (not the one I am on now) but back then there weren't that many boats on it so nobody cared when we skied every day. We just stayed away from any houses on shore.

    How much would it cost to restore a 1928 Chris craft 22ft?

      It would be very hard to answer that question without seeing the boat.
