The 400.1 looks good , 300g lighter than the original too . Speaking with an actual arborist recently , he said he prefers the 400 over the 500i because when running a saw all day the weight difference left him less fatigued at the end of the day , the new saw would make an even greater difference.
I agree 1000%. The old 400c is not running at its peak performance. My 400c would blow away that older 400c. It needs an adjustment for sure. Unfair test to sell the new 400.1c.
The 400c is choked back so much from the factory that it's ridiculous. I thought the 400c was a junk saw in stock form.... once ported, the 400c is nasty light saw. I'd like to see what the 400.1 will do, once ported. I'll probably buy one when they become available and machine/port it. 😂
Went from a 462 to the 400c .Both brilliant saws ,no question.. it is sad to see the 400c discontinued in it's present form . I can see the new version does indeed have an advantage with torque improved and less weight is a no brainer. I will be able to take full advantage of both. I will see what the price is at my local shop when they are in stock
Nearly bought the 400 six months ago but when i got to the dealers the 500 was on special, $500 off, for the same price as the 400 so now I have 2 500s. I wonder when this gets to Australia. The torque upgrade is perfect for our hardwoods. I guess i need to start saving for another toy.
A great and fair comparison. The performance of the new 400.1 is very impressive. Looking forward to the comparison to the 362. I have a 361 and it’s a great saw.
Super Test!Die neue Ms 400 ist Top!Interessant wäre Stihl Ms 400 gegen Husqvarna 562 Mark 2.Mit der selben Schiene und Kette.Mit Adapter geht die Stihlschiene auf die Husqvarna 562
Very nice saw. The „old“ 400 is great and pretty solid. The new one should also be impressive but as I said I will wait a year or two before I buy one to see how well it would perform at a long distance. Or I might get one and see it myself 😁
I do think stock vs stock that the new may be the way to go. I have a feeling that port vs port will be different and i am sure many porters out there make videos on this. We shall see. I just had my 400 ported and it is like a different saw. Very fun to run a 25 bar on now.
I have the Ms 500i and it beats all the other sthil models that I owned . Can’t wait to see the new sthil Ms 400.1 here in Pacific Northwest United States . I used to have the old sthil Ms 400c !
Well that sure will give the sceptics something to think about! Especially because the new saw isn’t as broken in as old version so it has a slight disadvantage there. The new 400 definitely proved itself as a powerhouse in the 60cc class! 562 mk2 vs 400.1 would be a good shootout as well. I heard in Oliver’s video I think that they will have a heated version as well unlike the original 400. They better since cancelling the 362 had an Arctic version.
Great video, I am really impressed by the new 400.1. I am about to equip myself and I wanted to get a MS500i, so I am looking forward to your comparison between the 400.1 and the 500i
Pretty interesting that lesser cc and lesser power in that new 400.1 outcuts original 400, now that means that this is very universal and relatively light but has some torque. Will be interesting to pit against a MS462, might be that saw starts to go obsolete when a much lighter saw can cut almost as fast as 70cc saw. Interesting times. Husqy 550mk2 goes bust because it weighs only couple hundred grams less but is way less cc and power. Medium Husqvarnas have to go dieting now😂
I am curious to see what the price will be. I can’t see it being the same price as the old one. Don’t know how many they would sell at 1k+ when the Husqvarna 562xp Mark II and Echo 620p is several hundred below 1k.
Is the MS363 the standard carburetor version of this saw? I saw a Brazilian RUclips video that looks like the same unit but with old school carburetor adjustments. 👍
Very nice comparison! I think a shorter bar would be better for hardwood. I will get the saw with an 18" bar. Best regards from Germany! ✌ Sehr schöner Vergleich! Ich denke für Hartholz wäre eine kürzere Schiene besser. Ich werde mir die Säge mit einer 18" Schiene holen. Viele Grüße aus Deutschland ✌
I think this test should be redone with a 28" bar cutting a larger piece of wood so that the bar is buried, so much so that with all that inconsistent pressure on the saws it looked like you were trying to make the old 400 look weak, especially on the pine cuts, seeing how you're perfectly fine using that saw and doing smooth cuts at peak power in older videos without pushing on it like that. I'm subbed to this channel for awhile as you can check, so you'd better come clean with this as I'm not a hater..... Anyway you should run the 400 400.1 and 500 together with a larger saw and don't pull this bs. Let the saw cut with a larger bar, you're better than this or not it's fine by me and others too. People bounce if you're dishonest, and it seems like you are trying too hard to pleasure Stihl in some sort of a promotion. Should have lied to us by running a square ground chain on the new 400 and a chisel on the old one if you really wanna play that shitty game. Lesson learned next time eh? Unsubbed.
Oh my, did you just buy a 400 and wish you waited for the new one? Not sure where you’re coming from mate. Just to be clear, we’re not trying anything funny. Leave by all means dude. What you may be witnessing that you can push harder on the new 400 as it has more torque 🤷🏻♂️
In stock form, the 400c is absolutely weak and simply lacks torque... BUT, once ported, the 400c is a nasty saw! The 400c was choked from the conception, especially the Intake.
@em4703 the 400c was choked by design... the intake and port timing sucks.. Everything that i have watched and/or listened to suggests the 400.1 has a much larger intake and better port numbers. As the saying goes, If it can't flow it, it can't make power. There's relative balance here... lol. Once the 400c is opened up/adjusted, it's a phenomenal saw. Great video I would like you to put it up against a Husqvarna 562 MKII. The new MS 400.1 looks impressive and I am after a new 60cc saw.

One of the best features with this new ms400 is that it comes with heated handles 👍
I want the new ms400 that saw is awesome
Now after this video that new 400.1 piques my interest.
Hope Stihl keeps this saw at a good price point that the average guy can afford
I'll be getting one! Main complaint on my 400 is it lacks torque. Lighter and more torque will be nice!

I hope the new lighter weight frame of the 400i holds up and does not crack.
It's not going to. All the lighter framed saws have cracked. They aren't nearly as durable as the ones before them.
What length bar?
20”
