  • Summertime if Southwest Missouri is hot and humid. And every year I get asked what I am doing to help keep the animals cool. I honestly don't do a lot but there are a few key things that do help.

Great info. I'm about to make a quail hutch and I wasn't sure where I should put it in my yard.

Been mid to upper 90's with high humidity here in south east Florida and my quail are doing great i check on them in the morning but leave them alone till late afternoon. seems to work best, theyre happy and healthy

It has been getting around 110 here lately. I keep my hutch under my back porch in the shade. They might get an hour of semidirect sun in the afternoon. Yet as long as they have plenty of water, I have no issues with the heat.

Been mid 80's here in southern West Virginia and very dry. My rabbits all have lixit 64oz waterers and ive been refilling them in the hottest part of the day. They seem to enjoy the fresh cool water and aside from becoming lazy they dont seem to mind the heat much. My quail dont seem to care at all. My black australorps are taking it in stride too,but im watering them twice a day some days. Their consumption has really increased. God bless and thanks for posting.

80’s 😩 so jealous. I have ALL my birds inside rn.. every last one of ‘em lolol brought them in the first day we hit 99° and they’ve only gone out late at night a couple of times throughout this summer 🙃 we’ve had a few days over 110° and I read people in my area leaving their guys outside. I just couldn’t do it!
Ugh as I type this, just @ 5:02 made me anxious 😭 lol I have their hutches in my garage too.. which I _know_ is much cooler than outside. It’s also shaded with three HUGE trees. The entire garage itself. I’d just never been able to forgive myself if I lost any of them due to heat 🥺 idk how people do it well above triple digits 😔

*four huge trees lolol I forgot one! I have GIANT palms with the biggest shady fronds you’ve ever seen.. right next to my garage. Then an olive tree that grows fully over my driveway and shades the garage door! Considering maybe getting some type of AC for them next summer.. idk 😓 don’t even wanna think about it yet tbh, just counting down the days for summer to be over lmaooo

@@thedouglaspodcast yeah, that's one good thing about being in the Appalachian mountains, it rarely gets above 90. We're in the upper 60s low 70s at night. It's very humid in the summer here, but its usually just through july and early August. I couldnt handle any triple digit temps. These ole mountains have me spoiled

If you let the ground cover grow taller it would be a little cooler

How many days of 80° or higher does it take for a buck to go sterile?
Normally we get a day or two a week that will get that warm. Right now our average high is 80 , so it's only that warm for a brief time.

Mine are doing ok here outside of death valley. We already hit 119 this year. Misters are necessary along with automatic waterers, fans, and planty of shade. Man the heat is terrible. I hate the desert but just cant seem to get out.
