The fact that you’re mentioning how difficult hygiene as an everyday concept can get for people with ADHD OCD anxiety disorders etc is extremely important. I’ve never seen anyone else be this inclusive with their yt video concepts it makes people who struggle with mental health issues feel seen and understood and the video itself is really helpful!! The concept of hygiene actually really complicated and not that simple if you really start breaking it down and it takes a lot of thought and energy doing these everyday “pre occupied”rituals if you’re struggling with mental health but you present it in such a fun and interesting way which helps all kinds of people to get up and practice good and precise hygiene no matter what they’re dealing with. Congrats to you Alexandra
i always think ab a scene in greys anatomy where meredith is shocked to find out the rest of the girls rinse the sink after brushing their teeth 🙊 and christina tells her "Nobody parented you. This is to be expected.". When you deal with mental issues there are so MANY small little things that go unnoticed, things so small most people never bring it up so you dont even realise you were missing them
2:19 ‘But at the same time there’s anxiety, depression, any type of neurodivergence that can make hygiene actually a really big mountain to climb’ your videos have helped and taught me for years, way before I developed extreme depression and OCD, and now when I am dealing with these obstacles you’ve still somehow managed to make me feel seen and inspired. Thank you, I really needed this
Girl, I can't express how much I needed this content. I lost my mom 2 months ago, I'm unemployed, overweight and depressed. I get paralyzed with perfectionism and just don't take care of myself properly, but your videos (this one in particular) inspire me ❤️ Thank you for your big sister insights (even though I'm older than you 😂)
I am so sorry for your loss. I know the pain is sometimes too much to handle, especially with mental health sruggles, but you are stronger than you think. You are a beautiful amzing person and am sure u will find peace along the way. Prayers and thought and so much love from Algeria ❤
So sorry for ur loss. I know the feeling. U are a beautiful person. Please hang in the for us. We, in this space are ur family too. I think ur mum would be proud of ur strength.
I absolutely love the sentiment that you don’t necessarily have to be struggling mentally for hygiene to be hard, sometimes it’s difficult just because it’s difficult
THE QUEEN IS BACK I REPEAT THE QUEEN IS BACK Also, I have so so so much respect for Alexandra for putting in so much research and detail into her videos. There’s so much bullshit and pseudoscience out there, or people telling you you don’t need to wear deodorant because “feminism” etc. And here we have an educated, smart and wise woman, who’s grown to be the older sister most of us never had. I’ll say it before under other videos of Alexandra, and I’ll say it again, I am so grateful to her. I’ll repeat it a hundred times if need be, I am immensely grateful. She’s not only taught us so much, myself included, but she has made me love being a girl/woman. I’m still between the two) I remember back in 2019-2020 when her content really matured and became a better, more womanly quality, because she’s grown so much, and those years were really important in my life for so many reasons. Now that I look back, I realise how much she’s helped me back then, and I’m so glad she’s still putting out videos. I love being a female, and that’s due to many reasons, but Alexandra is definitely one of them.
Also, 7:24 as a Eurasian who’s constantly shocked over how poorly Americans take care of their privates, can I just say, PLEASE do use gentle feminine wash and use either a bidet or an intime shower - which takes up less space than a bidet and is more comfortable to use. Americans go the the bathroom and wipe themselves dry, which creeps me out, no wonder the UTI rate is so high in the US. Please use at least water down there, it’s really important. One more things that’s also present in my culture is washing your feet before bed, at least with hot water. It relaxes you and helps you sleep better, but it also keeps your bed clean, and your feet fresh - cause they get to breathe though the night while staying clean, and as a former dancer, I’ve also found it prevents foot cramps, because it relaxes the muscles.
@@leylarustamova hi there! Lady in biology here who’s doing a big focus on gynaecology at the moment: bidets are great! Not everyone can use a feminine wash though, so that needs to be mentioned! Water alone is actually perfectly fine for many women. I personally use a sensitive skin soap on everywhere but the bottom near the opening, but I have friends who cannot use anything. So let’s not insist on feminine soaps! Soap in the vaginal canal ruins the beautiful acidity we possesses, which ruins our self cleaning capability. Sometimes even a drop of soap can get in there and cause a big mess.
@@livhuji733 the more important part is washing your behind after 💩. In Europe they now sell a thing called “happypo”, you could use that, or a watering can or just a bottle with water. I installed a “bum gun” which you often find in Asia. Better not use a baby wipe, they often have perfume and maybe alcohol and that’s very irritating.
@@maddyG7414 of course! I never implied that feminine wash should go inside of us - obviously not. But the outside does need to be cleaned, especially our back end when we go #2
The amount of thought, love, and work you put into your videos really shows. Thinking about people who struggle with maintaining their hygiene for whatever reason is something rarely talked about. In trying to help them find the motivation and reason for doing it is such an act of love and incorporating learning styles and your passion into helping them find a solution…it’s honestly amazing.
Omg yes I would love a routine on oral hygiene. Since your teeth and gums look so healthy can you show us how to perfect your oral hygiene. Like how to floss, how to brush your teeth properly to avoid tartar. I would love that. Not all of us were taught this when we were young.
I just had a random thought, and could be totally wrong. But I also brushed my tongue earlier and noticed that it also triggered some clearing from my sinuses.... what if a large cause of the bacteria that causes bad breath is largely due to the mucus that drains from the sinuses? And some of the bacteria trapped in the mucosa ends up on the tongue? Since the nose is the first line of defense from airborne pathogens... just a thought!
@@Joanna-ed8ic no this is really it. I wish I knew what exactly this means in medical terms ? Cause I have constant sinus to throat/mouth drip and I know it’s all connected.
You are the PERFECT example of building a brand that I want to replicate. You put out HIGH 👏🏾 QUALITY👏🏾 CONTENT 👏🏾 once in a while instead of showing up everyday and you have already established that pattern with us, we trust that you will come back when you are ready to present us with great advice and tips and I PROMISE I be looking you up because I am craving seeing your videos and learning something new about taking care of myself as woman. Thank Big Sis Alex! You're the best!
28:13 the amount of thought you put into these videos and highlighting the fact that you included your neurodiverse audience really adds to the inclusivity that you have for your overall audience. I personally relate a lot to not being able to get up in the morning so I as a member of your channel really appreciate the amount of effort you put in including everyone which is not something you see a lot of RUclipsrs/ beauty influencers do now adays.
I remember I saw the advice to use a knuckle instead of your fingertip to dip into a jar of product in one of your previous videos, and it has literally changed my life every day. 😂 Such a simple solution to a daily problem!
This video inspired me to make my bed and sweep my floors and it’s already improved my mood a little bit. So so appreciative for all you’ve done and continue to do♥️♥️
that last part, where she explains what she had in mind for the video, talking about neurodivergence etc, this is exactly why i love and adore her, and she deserves MAD respect for all her hard work
just adding to mistake 3: Flushing with the seat up - all the bacteria in the bowl gets whirled around in you bathroom, on your toothbrush and everything else :/ So put the lid back down BEFORE flushing for a cleaner bathroom.
Lovely to have you back ❤ My biggest hygiene tip is to focus on the basics: instead of having perfectly manicured painted nails, just have well trimmed and clean ones. Social media often puts pressure on us about things we should/could do to improve our appearance (lasering/lash lifts/blow outs/peelings etc.), so we get overwhelmed in the process. Everyone has to evaluate, what their basic needs considering hygiene and appearance are. Anything you put on top (like nail polish for example) will cost you time, for applying and removing (and chipped nail polish looks like …). I realised I feel better, more beautiful and way more relaxed if I do less but do it right and regularly. So I don’t get overwhelmed, everything is doable even in stressful times and I feel somewhat presentable and put together at any time. The only thing extra I am not willing to skip are sheet masks and eyepatches once in a while. They are just so much fun!!!
I'm going through a rough time in my life, I gained 30 pounds due to stress and I no longer feel good and feminine but watching your videos is helping me to want to take care of myself more. Thank you for what you do, you're saving lives and you're an inspiration. ❣️
I'm so sorry you're going through a rough time. I went through a terrible time and gained about 35 pounds and I was very petite my whole life so it was very noticeable to everyone so I was constantly getting remarks and it made it worse. I'm always kind to people because you never know what someone is going through. It will get better. You will get through it 🥰💜
This was like the most non judgemental and comforting hygiene video on RUclips. I feel so embarrassed, but I basically had my life set up in high school. I had a routine, great parents, and goals. I graduated top of my class, but had no real dreams or career path for after that. I went to college just cause it was expected at my college prep high school. By sophomore year of college, I still hadn’t decided on a major so I just picked the one my adviser suggested and went with it. Graduated summa cum laude.. then fell apart. My “track” had ended and my train was derailed. I hated my major and hated the jobs I was qualified for. I felt so stuck. I had wasted so much money. I was unemployed, depressed, a ball of anxiety (which I was my whole life) and my health and hygiene took a hit. I did get married and so for the year of wedding planning, I was fine. But after the wedding, I had no goals or dreams. I gained 60 pounds (husband gained quite a bit as well since we both turned to food for comfort and we used going out to eat as a way to spend quality time together) and hygiene became a back burner thing. If I had nothing to live for and no reason to go out, who cares if my hair was a little bit dirty? It took me a while to admit I was depressed because I felt guilty for being depressed. I am so blessed (wonderful family, amazing husband, etc.) but yet I was struggling so badly. I’m still a mess and don’t know what I want to do career wise, but I recognized the problem and plan on working on the solution. Weight loss and developing a healthy and obtainable hygiene schedule are on the top of the list. Love that this video doesn’t shame someone for not showering twice a day and instead provided small tips on how improve while also acknowledging that hygiene can be difficult because it’s not a one time thing - it’s a whole list of habits you have to stick to everyday for life. Just want to say, if you’re struggling, you’re not alone. I am no longer going to avoid admitting I have depression just because I’m afraid of someone saying “what do you have to be depressed about” because I’ll never improve if I just ignore it.
Missed these so much! My recent tips: 1. Getting tape floss instead of normal floss 2. If you can get an electric brush 3. Use a fresh cloth on your face everyday if you can which is great for cleaning under and around the ear 4. Clean out the crevice of your lady parts, ideally just water and your hands. Each time you shower, it's a game changer in terms of odour 4. When traveling, get a panyliner and then you can swop them out and feel fresh on a longer day 5. Baby wipes are a lifesaver on the go especially summer 6. If you can shower twice, it doesn't have to be intense but choose a longer one and then a quick refresher. 7. Avoid jeans in the summer I notice smells happen much quicker in summer than another season. I'll be trying the scraper too, thanks Alex
Wrt #4 someone mentioned in another video that sometimes it's better to skip that liner (with exceptions for ovulation, important events etc.). The theory was that wearing it every single day tricks your body into needing it so you actually end up having heavier discharge, and honestly it's life changing advice.
@@RayeCalibur that’s interesting. I noticed the same thing too so I only wear them when I travel or when I have a long day with multiple events. Thanks for the insight 😊
OMG I HAD NO IDEA. im one of the people who for the most part taught themselves how to hygiene growing up so im constantly searching on google or tiktok for more "common" information, but i feel like everyone is mostly just telling you what to use and not really breaking down the why or how. so im very thankful your coming out with this series, i honestly feel more comfortable getting this sort of information from you.
My 14 year old daughter has ADHD and just zones out during hygiene routines. I've taught her how to care for herself since she was young because my mom never taught me when I was younger. But I've been struggling to explain hygiene in a way that helps it make sense in her mind riddled with ADHD. I will be sending this to her because I think this will help make things click!
omg i love u :( i felt so validated and understood by this video because you aren’t afraid to speak on certain subjects that some of us are embarrassed to mention out loud. i definitely found some of these tips especially useful and will try them out! thank u sm and i’ve missed ur videos im happy ur back :)
I’m so thankful that you understood where I’m coming from! I was hesitant when I thought of making the video but it’s so rewarding that it spoke to you💗💗💗
Wow Alexandra, I just watched til the end, was brought to tears. I have ADHD and have been struggling with depression and anxiety and all those things you mentioned. I literally just opened up to someone yesterday about difficulty initiating shower, procrastinating etc. She didn’t understand at all. But wasn’t judgmental. I may not be your target age range audience but you definitely resonate with me . Btw, I keep my nail scrubber in the shower 😉
I relate! I developed this weird aversion to showering, i try to bird bathe regularly but my skin is not getting the exfoliation and care it needs. Its hard! Im gonna try doing more baths since its not hot anymore
She got a thumbs up from me when she acknowledged that hygiene can feel like a mountain to climb for some that are having other psychological/physical difficulties!
Im 36 and the best advice I can give is look after your teeth. Its embarrassing but I neglected my teeth for years. I brushed them in the morning and now my gums are scarily receeded. Im too broke to get a procedure to fix the gums but anyway point is I used to avoid flossing because 'omg my gums are bleeding' which now i realised is a good thing. If theyre bleeding that means your gums are weak and needs cleaning. I also got a decent dentist who taught me that you keep the floss against the tooth and cut up. I was always too scared to do that/didnt realise that was what flossing really was. Now I feel so much better but still have regrets and wish id had better information earlier in life. Oh and when you brush your teeth dont swill your mouth with water. Keeping residue of paste in your mouth helps so much!
as someone who grew up with boys and was always lacking a feminine figure to teach me things growing up im so so thankful for your videos!! even now, as a 22 year old, i feel like theres always new things to learn ❤️
As I was passing by my husband, I briefly mentioned the part about sitting on the toilet in hopes to get him to stop taking years in the bathroom 😂 He looked both horrified and nauseous as I walked happily away. I shall see if my experiment worked today.
@@cleocatra9324 tell him the tip, most guys are hyper aware of how they smell in that area so I'm sure you'll see a difference in how long he takes. He's probably on his phone so maybe be sneaky and turn WiFi off so he hurries up if u need the bathroom lol.
I love that you’ve included some behind the scenes footage!! It’s so cool to see your creative process. Really appreciate that you put so much thought into neurodivergent minds ♥️
This series is so incredibly value and you can tell how how passion and effort is put into each of them. Thank you Alexandra, for being the big sister so many of us needed and teaching simple, yet crucial life lessons. No shame or drama like numerous influencers and advertisements feed us, just genuine care and kind educational content.
Thank you for addressing the neurodivergents among us! I love your content, but I had a concern that this video might make me feel bad since this is something I'm struggling with. My room is cleaner than ever, my laundry is perfect- but I would for some reason rather walk across hot coals than take a shower a lot of days. I knew I had ADHD, but I was diagnosed with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and PTSD all in one swoop yesterday. I did not feel bad watching your video at all- I felt very seen, and there are things in it I definitely want to try! Thank you again!
The fact that you really plan these videos and everything you put into them, is so amazing how you deliver every single piece of Womanly - once I found you I was obsessed with your tips and tricks! I come back to watch these just to refresh on your ideas. & we know you're busy and you have a life but we really love these! Thank you for your content!
As someone who has adhd and struggles with anxiety, you’re amazing for the way you handled this video! I saw 30 minutes and felt immediately overwhelmed lol but I found myself engaged and watched the whole thing. Thanks for the tips, I look forward to more content from you lovely lady 💙🫰🏽
I have really bad adhd, anxiety, depression and and autoimmune disease that makes me feel really lazy, so I procrastinate A LOT and I always come back to your videos to help me keep going and try to find confidence in little things, even in drinking water. Thanks for making videos, without knowing you are helping me everyday ♡
For the armpit detox hack- I learned that dermatologists recommend using a benzoyl peroxide wash! I use PanOyxl, which used to be a prescription wash from dermatologists but now is on the market for all. You apply it like a mask- put it on your armpits, wait two minutes, and then wash off. Some people completely avoid using deodorant because of this since benzoyl peroxide kills off surface bacteria, as well as sinks into the pores to cleanse! I personally still use deodorant- but I thought I’d share this tip. I do this about once a week (I sweat a lot) but you can look up what works for you!!
Literally love watching your videos, how informative and genuine you make them without hero-ing products or talking about the SAME advice you hear everywhere
I have a chronic illness/disease and a huge part of it is severe fatigue and excruciating pain. Even brushing my teeth is exhausting and sometimes I cant even do it. So to hear you include people like me, who used to shower twice a day, get my nails done, visit the hairdresser regularly and just have great hygiene overall to being someone who can barely leave the bed, its such a relief. I feel disgusting but I have to keep telling myself ill do it when I can. Its a horrible way to live. So thank you for including that ❤ 💓
REPEAT AFTER ME: “If you could have, you would have.” I, too, struggle with health issues and have since college (I’m 37 now). When it started I went to therapy and my therapist wrote that mantra on an index card and gave it to me. My friends and I called it my “Dumbo feather” and I carried it with me in my notebook every day. It really helped. Hang in there. You aren’t alone ❤❤❤
GIRL I cannot express how much love I have for you and how much I appreciate you making these videos. Hygiene wasn't a big thing that was spoken about in my family, and it was always difficult figuring it out. Even more difficult having a younger sister and not being able to communicate how to do all of these things. Now were both older and still figuring stuff out, but I wish I had these videos when I was younger to help myself and my younger sister. Thank you so much!!!!
I struggled a lot with body odour when I was around 12/13 and it always frustrated me because I would shower twice a day, and wake up early to religiously spray perfume over the shorts I wore under my school uniform. It honestly became a major source of insecurity for me and definitely caused a lot of bullying. I wish I had advice like this back then, but I least I know now that there was nothing wrong with me or my body. On another note, my grandmother passed away a couple days ago and I've really been struggling to get through each day and keeping up with hygiene and stuff. This video has made me feel a lot better and I think I'm going to go have a shower and do a refresh. Thank you so much for this Alexandra!
I love how your tips are simple but so important and effective. It is so easy to feel like we can never reach that ideal version of us, but breaking it up into what we CAN do makes it not feel so impossible to be a better version
One thing to note on laundry is if you have things that need to be washed differently, I've found it helpful to have multiple hampers. So I'll have one for work clothes that are covered in really nasty stuff, one for everyday wear, and one for delicates like bras and wool sweaters. It jsut makes things easier.
The ending explaining how you understand how essential visual imagery is for ND is spot on. Your actual demonstrations are also invaluable. You are the big sister we all need 💖
I love that your content is unapologetically geared toward women and girls. Such a safe, feminine energy in this space that is lacking in a lot of other creator's videos, even though the majority of their audience are women.
I love how simple and unbiased this video is. There is no underlying message regarding "smelling good for other people". Just meet yourself where you are and do what you can. Really appreciate all the work to film this video.
SO GLAD YOU’RE BACK ALEXANDRA! Your videos are so helpful and it’s obvious you put a lot of effort into them. I clicked on this video to support you, but it turns out that I learnt so much! I can’t wait for more of your content. 💜
Thank you! I made it through this 30 minute video without scrolling through the recommendations, which I normally do due to my ADD. And it felt really easy and exciting to watch. You really nailed it on the visuals.
I started sobbing at the end of the video, I can't remember the last time I felt so understood and cared for. I'm autistic and have always had a kind of ongoing battle with hygiene and personal care, I get so confused and jealous watching other girls do it with seemingly no effort. It's so hard to keep on track sometimes, even if I don't know it my mind sets its own expectations for the events in a day and often a shower or laundry just doesn't fit into it. It's always so much mental energy to have to manually do every hygiene task, especially when it's a bad sensory experience to do it. (ie: shirt/hair getting wet washing face) I feel like my brain is a toddler sometimes, I'll be dirty and greasy and upset because of it, but I just can't bring myself to shower because I know how much energy it will take. Even if I know I'll feel 100x better afterwards. It's so overwhelming all the time.
What I love is that you are clearly so happy and satisfied by getting organized/clean (like I am) but that you don't mind showing us the before, or pretend that you're that organized all the time (also like myself...because I have ideal routines/rituals/clean systems that I fall short of but I still love the routine/rituals/systems!) So relatable!
Wow, the ending actually has me in genuine tears. I was diagnosed the major depressive disorder & anxiety last year and my hygiene was going down long before that. I’ve been working through it and am getting better with keeping myself up but for a very long time, I could not get myself up to do it…. And I mean physically, get myself up and it was terrible. I have always loved your videos but hearing your thought process and seeing that you are genuinely thinking about people who are suffering with what others may deem as simple, really warmed my heart. Thank you for being the best big sister we all need 💕
i missed you so much!! definitely sending this video to my little sister who’s currently going thru a little crisis about how she looks haha, i’m giving her some tips on how to be more confident and your videos are so perfect, i grew up watching you so they’ll help a lot! thank you so much for all the useful tips!! ♡
Alexandra you are the BEST big sister, aunt, best friend and confidant to all women 💛💛 you're so awesome and as a 30 year old who is just now finally learning to connect with her body and learning to love it fully by giving it the right care, I am so empowered by your videos!!! Glad you're putting out more content💛
I really hope you read this Alexandra. As a girl who grew up without a mom or a sister, your videos are so so important for women. You have helped me since i was a teen and i am turning 22 soon. You are an amazing person. Thank you so much
I strongly respect and admire the intensive work and the quality of research provided for creating this video, thank you so much Alexandra ✨ Hygiene can easily become a background in our lives but having it under control lifts a weight off our shoulders and can improve the quality of our lives significantly. Being reminded that disturbing body odour is a sum of bacteria and humidity gives more control over it. It is heartwarming to have a clearer idea of what are some of the underlying factors causing us to experience certain hygienic situations. One tip I can confidently share is based on an observation: soap is made of surfactants. They are often represented as bubbles, trapping organic compounds (e.g., dirt, sebum unfortunately, some pollutants) inside (lipophilic), and being washed off by water outside (hydrophilic). Applying surfactants on a wet surface can have them washed away without having had time to trap organic compounds. Thus, applying surfactants on a dry surface might improve their efficiency as they would have time to trap organic compounds inside. Right before showering, I apply soap on my dry armpits to efficiently remove deodorant daily. It might also be useful for removing makeup when applying products for removing it on a dry face. I believe some of these products already work through similar instructions ☺️
When you said we lean hygiene at a young age that is 100% true. I actually wasn't showering well until a few months ago and I'm so embarrassed. I used to only wash what was "dirty" and my mother used to help my shower and she never corrected me. I always didn't smell great because of this, when I was 19 my brother told me I had a constant odor and I was horrified, now I wash everything thoroughly and am cleaner and happier. I just never thought to question how I was taught to shower.
Im 20 and still figuring it out. I also still wash the "important or stanky" places only and i need to change that Its not embarassing by the way. Im happy to know Im not the only one
Your ability to put out a video filled with so much love and useful reflection, magically soothes my current anxiety (No matter what part of life that it stems from hygiene, work, school, etc.) You’ve spoken on why you post when you do and honestly, videos like these make it the your breaks double-ly important. You get the rest you need and we get an AMAZING video filled with love. Thank you for being my RUclips big sister :)
The last part is exactly why I love your videos. I came back cuz I’m struggling with my adhd and depression. I caught myself not have take a shower in two weeks and I freaking cried. Because my room is the same. Horrible. And it’s all overwhelming. I legit managed to take a shower today. Again in the same week. And I did bag of trash. Tomorrow I will do the same and start to pick up clothes. Thank you❤ for being the big sister some of us don’t have or simply need. Please keep making your videos ❤ I’m legit 23 and sometimes get so frustrated with how crazy o it of control life can get in simple ways. But I want to do better for myself and my my future family ❤
Excited for more of the series. I’m a new mom to a baby girl and I spend most of my brain power taking care of her and only her to the best of my ability but I neglect myself majority of the time. This video is helpful in reminding me to take care of myself more too ❤
My number one hygiene hack is absolutely a water pic! I’ve been using it religiously before bed for three years now and in three years I have never had a toothache, or a problem. I also put a little bit of hydrogen peroxide in it just to make sure my teeth are extra clean! I could never go back to flossing after using a water pic😭
Omg same with the little bit of hydrogen peroxide in the water tank. I floss multiple times a day, use a sonic toothbrush twice a day and drink a ton of water and I notice there's still food debris getting rinsed out when I finish with the water pik. It's just crucial to use one! My dental hygienist comments on how clean my teeth are and almost never has to do much!
I love my water pik too! I noticed I don’t have bad breath anymore in the morning when I started using it. I still floss first, then water pik, tongue brush (scraper), mouthwash, then brush my teeth 😅
I don’t recall how I discovered you a few years back but I am so glad that I did. I adore you and your channel! Your topics are always so relevant, even for a woman my age ( of 59). I love the style and format of your videos. You’re level of knowledge and professionalism is quite evident. Thank you and I cant wait for your next video!
Okay so random, but here's my oral hygiene routine: Night: - Mouth wash (kills first layer of bacteria and loosens food particles breaking them down) - Floss (takint advantage if the looser food particles from the mouth wash,, getting both sides of the gum arch between each tooth) - Brush (I usually clean in sections r.e. top row front, top row back, bottom row front etc. Making sure I lightly scrub my gum line, and scrubbing my tongue rigorously.) - Tongue scraper (scraping all the way from the back of my mouth to the very tip, and rinsing with water afterward) - Water test (i rinse my mouth with water making sure it tastes like water, not like dinner or my last meal lol this let's me know I cleaned my whole mouth) - Whitening straps (occasionally) - Sugar free mint gum throughout the day (helps freshen breath and keep your mouth clean because gum causes your saliva glands to pump extra fluid, keeping your mouth cleaner) And this is for night time. Mornings I usually just brush. Once I started doing the night routine, my morning breath went away and my breath never got smelly. Anyways, there's my routine 😅
I love your videos! They’re always so interesting and helpful to me. It’s amazing how you find simple tips and tricks to help make everyday easier when your going through stuff. One thing I’ve started doing to take care of my hair is shampooing twice. I wash my hair every three-five days, so it can get oily or have dry shampoo build up in it. I also use a clarifying shampoo once a week to make extra certain that I get rid of build up!
i’ve missed your hygiene videos! whenever i do a hygiene tip that i learned from you, i always hear your voice in my head from the video i’ve learned it from. you’re raising a whole generation of women to do better for themselves!
as someone with adhd, depression, anxiety and a lil bit of ocd this video felt so accepting and understanding, im in awe of the amount of effort and care u put into ur videos and im so glad ur back. most self care videos dont go so in depth about these tips and i really appreciate u looking out for young neurodivergent girls. love u, ur videos are amazing keep posting
I’m so incredibly stoked you have a new video out 😭 Your advice has helped me out a lot these last few years; I find myself re-watching your videos when I feel like I need a little boost. My mom and I were sitting on my couch (literally) just a few weeks ago, and I showed her your vids. Like movie night, except more rewarding 😂 Thank you for all of the thoughtfulness and passion you put into your content. It sets you apart and makes you timeless. Can’t wait for the next video! ❤️
It's coming up to the time of year for me where I will be doing a deeeeeep clean of everything in my room, stuff, wardrobe, in preparation for winter. These tips are SO useful. And the personal hygeine is a big thing. I work with vulnerable children, and a lot of the young girls I work with are struggling with maintaining their personal hygeine. I do my best to teach them and support them in their learning process, but it's always good for me to learn new things so I can pass on that learning to them! Thank you so much.
I would also add~ drink water!! I usually suggest 75oz a day and another 25oz or so if they exercise, are going to sweat a bunch or be extra social (yes talking a lot can dry you out a bit too😉) B and C vitamins are water soluble which means they work better in a hydrated body and it’s good for mental health as well❤️Great vid Alex!👏
Just sharing some of my own hygiene tips I’ve picked up: I’ve been brushing my tongue when I brush my teeth ever since my first semester of college in 2016 because my biology teacher talked about it. Also we should be brushing our teeth at a 45° angle otherwise we aren’t brushing optimally (something else I learned at college). 😂 Edit: my dentist also told me that floss picks aren’t good for your gums because they aren’t thorough or gentle enough; the best pick you could ever use for your teeth and gums is a water pick.
You are literally the only influencer who holds my attention for this long, the time just flies by watching your videos 💖 Edit: I stayed til the very end and love love love your behind the scenes! You make everything seem achievable- please do more videos on organisation and housework if you get a chance!
Hey Alexandra! Love your videos x Purely want to add this about the oral hygiene from a dental student standpoint but rinsing your mouth after brushing your teeth it a BIG no no. Even if the mouthwash contains fluoride. When you rinse you strip away to fluoride the toothpaste has deposited (fluoride content should be no less than 1350ppm). Mouthwash can however be used to freshen up or help remove food build up around lunch time. Hope this helps a little. Absolutely loving the flossing game 💪
I didn't know this! So we leave the toothpaste on? For how long? I just can't imagine eating food either toothpaste in my mouth. Thank you for sharing xx
@@Flowers-pj7vk Yes it's best to leave your toothpaste in your mouth. Spitting out the excess once you've finished brushing x It may take some getting used to not rinsing afterwards but it is totally worth it! After about 10 mins you probably won't notice the toothpaste anymore. It's also a good idea to brush your teeth 30-40mins before you have any food.
It's so awesome that you took into consideration the struggles that people who are Nerodivergent may have with hygiene and other things that they struggle to do in everyday life.
Wow really? Thank you 😊 I’m so curious about this alternative because gum recession is such a thing that creeps up until it’s a pricy problem you didn’t know existed!
The entire video I was amazed how you spoke so eloquently and the way you addressed mental health and how it affects personal hygiene I know cause I have experienced it too.The last clip explains it all. It was very genuine I started crying bless your soul I wish more people like you existed.
I always loved how you’re so just real with it , all these things we’re a bit guilty of , it’s like we’re listening to a best friend who knows our flaws lol, I feel so normal knowing that we’re not the only ones who has their bag like this, it’s like you know us females so well 😅😅😅 and sharing exactly how to help us . Great video!❤️
The purse insert is a game-changer!! The fact that I don't have to take my stuff out and reorganize into a new bag everytime I change purses. Also I get nervous putting thing in my designer back because what if the lining gets wrecked!? But the insert prevents that. It's so simple I can't believe I have never come across these before! Truly life changing!! Thank you thank you thank you for all your wonderful tips and knowledge that you've shared with us ❤️
Hey girl! If you do the oral hygiene video use the bass brushing technique it has been proven to be the best technique for cleaning our teeth. I am a dental student so that’s what I’m learning now :). We also learned not to use circular movements when brushing our teeth because the teeth and the toothbrush are rectangular/square shaped so circular movements will miss a lot of spots. Brushing too hard over time can also cause gum recession, optimal brushing time is 2 min!
I rarely write comments but i wasn't in the best shape these past days and i feel like i wasn't taking care of myself well. Watching you felt like a friend talking to me and telling me i got this. Please continue what you do. Always look up to you like a big sister. Thank you.
I love how at the end she says it's meant for a younger audience, then she said it also works if you're 28 😅 That is me currently and I honestly am still struggling with hygiene with life going on! Just want to smell good 🙏
I never had a mother that was there for me to explain theses things!!! In the past 3 years, u and ur Chanel turned into my safe space where I can go, when I have woman problems! I allways feel save and that my problems are normal !! Ty for everything 💜
Yay! Loved this video. I super appreciate it because I am noticing my overall health and hygiene declining over the past couple years. I've had so much change and stress and feelings of defeat, that, let's just say flossing has not been a top priority. But I want to get better, and this was so helpful to have a fun and inspiring video, to motivate me. Motivation is key. Girl I have been depressed and haven't brushed my teeth for a day. After Christmas I was just so overwhelmed. My hair needs a wash and so much more. I don't want to be this way but here i am. So I wrote some notes and feel inspired to change up my routine, or rather, create one. Much love!
Your videos are so entertaining to watch! Just a quick advice from a medical student that you don't need to listen to if you don't want to (also both of my parents are dentists so they passed their knowledge to me) : buy a softer brissle toothbrush (CURAPROX is a Swiss brand I love) and don't brush your teeth in circular motions, do it the way you would clean mud off of a shoe- in an sweeping motion from root to tip. For the flossing method I recomend hugging the first tooth from the inside and going down, then the same for the second, opposite tooth. All of this contributes to better mouth hygiene and also prevents gum recession and later parodontosis.
I have severe ADHD and have experienced depressive episodes that made it so incredibly difficult to take care of myself- thank you for acknowledging this! That struggle can be so shameful and we need to be honest about the realities of those problems to overcome them. (And be more empathetic to ourselves and others)

Congrats to you Alexandra
yes!!! this!!! i feel completely validated and seen by hearing her words 🥹🤍
Me too! I have OCD and I am overly hygienic and it becomes time consuming and I get anxious about being late and it causes a whole thing 🥺
Yes this! It makes me so much more motivated to implement some of these things because she takes my issues seriously.
i always think ab a scene in greys anatomy where meredith is shocked to find out the rest of the girls rinse the sink after brushing their teeth 🙊 and christina tells her "Nobody parented you. This is to be expected.". When you deal with mental issues there are so MANY small little things that go unnoticed, things so small most people never bring it up so you dont even realise you were missing them
Neurodivergent is supposed to be for autistic ppl lol sigh
Alexandra’s videos are like an old friend - You may not see each other often, but when you do it’s always enjoyable.
That's such a cute way of viewing it 🥰
2:19 ‘But at the same time there’s anxiety, depression, any type of neurodivergence that can make hygiene actually a really big mountain to climb’
your videos have helped and taught me for years, way before I developed extreme depression and OCD, and now when I am dealing with these obstacles you’ve still somehow managed to make me feel seen and inspired.

THE QUEEN IS BACK
I REPEAT
THE QUEEN IS BACK
Also, I have so so so much respect for Alexandra for putting in so much research and detail into her videos.
@@leylarustamova So are you supposed to use a baby wipe or a cloth with water after peeing if you dont have a bidet? Cause Im lost😢
But the outside does need to be cleaned, especially our back end when we go #2
The way she makes me feel about myself as a woman is beautiful and powerful thank you.
Not all of us were taught this when we were young.
i just scraped my tongue for the first time because of you and i feel SO MUCH CLEANER?????
I wanted to try the tongue scraping - and used a teaspoon! It works really well.
🤣🤣🤣😍
I just had a random thought, and could be totally wrong. But I also brushed my tongue earlier and noticed that it also triggered some clearing from my sinuses....
what if a large cause of the bacteria that causes bad breath is largely due to the mucus that drains from the sinuses? And some of the bacteria trapped in the mucosa ends up on the tongue?
Since the nose is the first line of defense from airborne pathogens... just a thought!
@@Joanna-ed8ic bad breath can also be caused by tonsil stones. everyone has them and they can start to smell when they get big
@@Joanna-ed8ic no this is really it. I wish I knew what exactly this means in medical terms ? Cause I have constant sinus to throat/mouth drip and I know it’s all connected.

Could not have said this better myself! Thank you!! ❤
I remember I saw the advice to use a knuckle instead of your fingertip to dip into a jar of product in one of your previous videos, and it has literally changed my life every day. 😂 Such a simple solution to a daily problem!
Why
@@AlysonPinkI think because otherwise the product gets under your nails
@@AlysonPink It's more sanitary because your knuckle generally isn't used to touch things.

Hi!! Another great video!!! Where are the links? I love that the tongue brush is metal!! Thanks!!
Lovely to have you back ❤
My biggest hygiene tip is to focus on the basics: instead of having perfectly manicured painted nails, just have well trimmed and clean ones.
I LOVE THIS SOOOOOO MUCH, THANK YOU!!! 🥰😇😁

I TRULY Resonate SO MUCH with what You wrote.🙏🏼💝🙏🏼
Missed these so much!
My recent tips:
1. Getting tape floss instead of normal floss
2. If you can get an electric brush
3. Use a fresh cloth on your face everyday if you can which is great for cleaning under and around the ear
4. Clean out the crevice of your lady parts, ideally just water and your hands. Each time you shower, it's a game changer in terms of odour
4. When traveling, get a panyliner and then you can swop them out and feel fresh on a longer day
5. Baby wipes are a lifesaver on the go especially summer
6. If you can shower twice, it doesn't have to be intense but choose a longer one and then a quick refresher.
7. Avoid jeans in the summer I notice smells happen much quicker in summer than another season.
I'll be trying the scraper too, thanks Alex
omg thanks these are great additions
Wrt #4 someone mentioned in another video that sometimes it's better to skip that liner (with exceptions for ovulation, important events etc.). The theory was that wearing it every single day tricks your body into needing it so you actually end up having heavier discharge, and honestly it's life changing advice.
@@RayeCalibur that’s interesting. I noticed the same thing too so I only wear them when I travel or when I have a long day with multiple events. Thanks for the insight 😊

I absolutely loved the behind the scenes ending. You are so incredibly inspiring and amazing.

Great idea but I’ve used regular rubbing alcohol too
Literally love watching your videos, how informative and genuine you make them without hero-ing products or talking about the SAME advice you hear everywhere
I have a chronic illness/disease and a huge part of it is severe fatigue and excruciating pain. Even brushing my teeth is exhausting and sometimes I cant even do it. GIRL I cannot express how much love I have for you and how much I appreciate you making these videos. Hygiene wasn't a big thing that was spoken about in my family, and it was always difficult figuring it out.
If you have issues with underarm smell try spraying lemon juice or rubbing alcohol under your arms and rinse off after 5 minutes.
"JUST MEET YOURSELF WHERE YOU ARE." 💣💣💣💣💣
SO GLAD YOU’RE BACK ALEXANDRA!
I'm so happy, that's huge!!
(ie: shirt/hair getting wet washing face)
I feel like my brain is a toddler sometimes, I'll be dirty and greasy and upset because of it, but I just can't bring myself to shower because I know how much energy it will take.
I love how accessible and inclusive this series is. I can't wait to see the rest of this series!
I can’t express the joy and motivation to care for myself that your videos bring me
I really hope you read this Alexandra. As a girl who grew up without a mom or a sister, your videos are so so important for women. You have helped me since i was a teen and i am turning 22 soon. You are an amazing person. Thank you so much
I strongly respect and admire the intensive work and the quality of research provided for creating this video, thank you so much Alexandra ✨
Hygiene can easily become a background in our lives but having it under control lifts a weight off our shoulders and can improve the quality of our lives significantly.
Thank you for this, it felt like a big sister explaining it in a really kind and understanding way
When you said we lean hygiene at a young age that is 100% true.
I also still wash the "important or stanky" places only and i need to change that
Its not embarassing by the way.
After getting a tongue scraper and realizing how much of a difference it makes, the idea that not everyone uses one is freaky 😅
AMAZING!!!!🥰😍🥰👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Excited for more of the series. I’m a new mom to a baby girl and I spend most of my brain power taking care of her and only her to the best of my ability but I neglect myself majority of the time. This video is helpful in reminding me to take care of myself more too ❤
the only 'common mistakes / tips / tricks' youtuber that doesn't clickbait and actually provides useful insight
My dental hygienist comments on how clean my teeth are and almost never has to do much!
.
Okay so random, but here's my oral hygiene routine:
Night:
- Mouth wash (kills first layer of bacteria and loosens food particles breaking them down)
- Floss (takint advantage if the looser food particles from the mouth wash,, getting both sides of the gum arch between each tooth)
- Brush (I usually clean in sections r.e. top row front, top row back, bottom row front etc. Making sure I lightly scrub my gum line, and scrubbing my tongue rigorously.)
- Tongue scraper (scraping all the way from the back of my mouth to the very tip, and rinsing with water afterward)
- Water test (i rinse my mouth with water making sure it tastes like water, not like dinner or my last meal lol this let's me know I cleaned my whole mouth)
- Whitening straps (occasionally)
- Sugar free mint gum throughout the day (helps freshen breath and keep your mouth clean because gum causes your saliva glands to pump extra fluid, keeping your mouth cleaner)
And this is for night time.
I lovee that you don’t use bg music your voice is so soothing! 😭 Also props to the research and editing put into this video we missed you girl 🫶🏻
i’ve missed your hygiene videos! whenever i do a hygiene tip that i learned from you, i always hear your voice in my head from the video i’ve learned it from. you’re raising a whole generation of women to do better for themselves!
as someone with adhd, depression, anxiety and a lil bit of ocd this video felt so accepting and understanding, im in awe of the amount of effort and care u put into ur videos and im so glad ur back. most self care videos dont go so in depth about these tips and i really appreciate u looking out for young neurodivergent girls. love u, ur videos are amazing keep posting
So special you took into consideration the neurodiverse community! I missed your videos, more please. ❤
Edit: my dentist also told me that floss picks aren’t good for your gums because they aren’t thorough or gentle enough; the best pick you could ever use for your teeth and gums is a water pick.
I love how you talk about processes. They are really helpful for people with ADHD like me. Even having matching stuff makes us feel better.
You are literally the only influencer who holds my attention for this long, the time just flies by watching your videos 💖
Edit: I stayed til the very end and love love love your behind the scenes!
You make everything seem achievable- please do more videos on organisation and housework if you get a chance!
SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK WITH AMAZING QUALITY VIDEOS
I've started using a metal dental stick because floss sticks ruined my gums (recession) and it changed my life. It removes plaque like nothing else!
What’s the bass brushing technique?
@@mermaidx9386 ruclips.net/video/AFroGF2f8KU/видео.html this explains it well
I rarely write comments but i wasn't in the best shape these past days and i feel like i wasn't taking care of myself well. Watching you felt like a friend talking to me and telling me i got this. Please continue what you do. Always look up to you like a big sister. Thank you.
I love how at the end she says it's meant for a younger audience, then she said it also works if you're 28 😅
That is me currently and I honestly am still struggling with hygiene with life going on! Just want to smell good 🙏
I never had a mother that was there for me to explain theses things!!!
In the past 3 years, u and ur Chanel turned into my safe space where I can go, when I have woman problems! I allways feel save and that my problems are normal !! Ty for everything 💜
I missed you so much I’m so glad your back ❤️❤️❤️ your like an older sister to all of us 💘hope you’ve been okay
I feel overwhelmed with self care most of the time but this video inspired me to keep taking care of myself ! Appreciate your content 🙂
Love how you mentioned the way depression can affect hygiene. It definitely affected me during my depression.
I have severe ADHD and have experienced depressive episodes that made it so incredibly difficult to take care of myself- thank you for acknowledging this! That struggle can be so shameful and we need to be honest about the realities of those problems to overcome them. (And be more empathetic to ourselves and others)
