Watch Next: HOW TO DRESS BETTER life changing • HOW TO DRESS BETTER *l...
Color theory is easily the NUMBER ONE THING I wish I'd known about when I was younger! So many of the times I thought my skin or whole self didn't look good it was because the color and shade I was wearing was working against me. Color is simple to the eye, but a little complex to understand. I have simplified it, through my eyes in this video so you can shop and use this as a guide for purchases that bring you tons of confidence. Enjoy the video! #TheArtOfColor

Hi, I'm Alexandra. I believe life can be both glorious, tricky and painful.. which we all know. Beauty is a practice I have enjoyed from early childhood as a way to build my confidence in myself. Not just on "special" occasions, but in my every day life and decision making. On my RUclips channel I show you practical steps and psychology to understand and apply methods in all areas of beauty; inclding fashion, makeup, hairstyling and femininity, to help us evolve and transform into our personal visions. I believe when a girl feels good about herself, she can make better choices for herself in ALL areas of life. Welcome to my channel, I'm glad you found me!

TIP for shade matching while shopping. Use your phone camera and turn on a black and white filter. Then compare your arm with the item of clothing. They should be the same shade of grey.

I actually tested some eyeshadows while watching videos and i would put over them white
samo of them didn't look that great so I turned black white
light blue was perfect match and while swaching it look the best
pink was a little bit too light and that is why i thought it was off
      purple was too dark
I am like 80% neutra l am a little bit warmer but I can wear and silver and gold and cool and warm colours so it really works
try it I was impressed since with makeup I looked great but without it I didn't
      now I know why

I watched this video multiple times. But when I watch it every time to refresh the concept, it blows my mind like I watch it for the first time. Every small details matter. This video is over flowing with a lot of small details.

I feel like some people in the comments are missing a key point: "ideal color" doesn't mean "the only color you can look good in". In fact, Alex expressly said that you can still look gorgeous in your least ideal shade! It's about optimization--color theory isn't a spectrum of "ugly to beauty" but "beautiful to more beautiful"

As an artist, I always love how she’s able to learn and educate herself on things like color theory and always be spot on. She does a wonderful job of dissecting how color theory affects the appearance of clothing on a person, allowing a person who came to video not knowing anything about color theory to have a decently strong grasp on the subject as a whole. It’s so refreshing to find someone who takes the time and effort to *properly* understand types of concepts, like color theory, which take experience and *time* to understand. It’s so admirable; I love you so much Alexandra

    1. Lighting, 2. Shade of pigment, 3. Skin Undertones (Cool, Neutral, & Warm), 4. Complexion (Contrast of hair & skin)
You should consider doing image consulting for youth (teens & tweens) to help gals start early build beautifying closets & not wasting their resources. Also for adults.

I learned this info a few years ago and it's so good to hear it again. Soft/Clear was explained to me in the terms
muted/high contrast. Colors are important but matching your contrast is more so for me. I'm muted or soft and if I look in the mirror and see the clothes before my features, I know that they are too high contrast for me. Color, for me is secondary because I can wear most colors as I have neutral light skin and almost neutral blond hair. I'm 57 and as a person gets older especially, you want to see the person first and not the clothes. Clothes should compliment the person not the other way around. Which is why you should wear make up that compliments you and not to match your clothes.
Thanks for this video. People should go through their closets and watch it again and again.

This video is amazing, but I'd like to add something regarding soft/clear styling for women who wear hijabs or headwraps in general. If you have trouble identifying if you are soft or clear because you don't show your hair, just know that you pretty much can choose (but still follow some ground rules!). If your hijab/tichel/headwrap contrasts with your skin, you can still apply the same rules that Alexandra mentioned and opt for more clear pieces. If you wear a neutral headpiece with less contrast, you might want to wear soft clothing. However, it is also important to ensure that the colors you choose coincide with your skin temperature wise, because fabrics so close to your face, the focal point of your body, can drastically enhance or muddle your features. Also, keep your eye/eyebrow colors in mind when choosing.
I have neutral-warm medium-to-dark skin, close to Jackie Aina's complexion, and I also have dark eyebrows and eyes. If I were to show my hair, I would have a soft complexion. I carry out this philosophy when choosing headscarves by wearing dark brown or warm colored hijabs. However, I can pull off clear-colored clothing if I wear a black hijab for example, but just make sure that the rest of your outfit is consistent with this and still compliments your undertone. These tips still can work for you!!

To go a bit deeper into shade theory : When you are really pale ( like me, for example ) if you wear really dark clothing, this will create high contrast, which will make me feel much paler than I am, because the darkness in my clothing will be a direct reference to compare to my skin, which will point out the fact that my skin is very pale. If I wear something that, as Alexandra said, is closer to my skin's brightness (for example : a light yellow blouse), the contrast between my skin and clothing will be lower. Now, the skin does not seem AS pale compared to my clothing, which will make my paleness stand out less.
I am a 3D Production and Visual Effects student and I have to say that the way Alexandra explained everything is really practical. I am for sure going to use these tips.
By the way, for people interested in official art theory behind color, there are 3 terms : hue, brightness, and saturation.
Hue = Which color is it? (Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, etc.)
Brightness = How dark is it? (Dark red, light red, dark orange, light orange) This can range from as bright as white to as dark as black.
Saturation = How vibrant is the color? So, is it warmer or closer to grey? For example, if your clothing's hue is orange, and the brightness is medium, it can still have different levels of saturation. A high saturation will make it look super pure and bright orange. A medium saturation will make it look orange but not extremely warm. An extremely low saturation will make it look grey.

I am very pale too with darker hair. I understand I should wear lighter colors not darker but my confusion comes with clear/soft. I believe I am clear so how do I wear muted versions of TRUE colors??? it's like saying too opposite things in my mind.

    • @anitasosa144
      @anitasosa144 4 года назад +6

@@courtneyhamilton4495 Since you have a light and clear complexion, you should wear bright light colors, which are different than muted light colors. To better understand the difference, look up bright pastel blue shade and then click images, then open up a new tab and look up muted blue shades, click images, and compare the two tabs. The bright blue one will look more like true blue with nothing added, but the muted one will look more grey or brown and will look duller. Since you have a clear and light complexion you should wear colors like the bright pastel blue ones.
