ive been dressing up a little recently whenever i go out, and while my parents gave me those comments a lot, they eventually stopped. if you just power through, you’ll be fine. at some point, id be able to go to the mall in a ballgown if i wanted to, and my mom would just accept it.
Literally I wore a crop top and some jeans in which was a top my mom bought me and some jeans she gave me and she said who you tryna impress like you think I'm tryna impress the icecream in kroger or smthn😭

And if lots of people are excited, that’s great! But you don’t dress for them. My advice is to not get too caught up in making sure people like (or continue to like) your outfits. Have fun! And relax :))
11:30 I seriously felt this because I have had the same style of dark shirts, sweaters, jeans, and very bland clothes just because I've always been afraid to wear my preferred style OR I'm so weird about people seeing me want to change who I've been for so long. I remember wearing dresses my freshman year and everyone would be like 'oh what's the occasion'. I would say 'there isn't one, I just wanted to show my cankles ok'. Lol
All the damn time I get this comment in school. We only have one day to wear our preferred outfits since we have school uniforms, I wear plain longsleeves, croptops and other super casual for me and still some just can't let me be 😌😂
I used to have a thing for blazers & shirts so when I was walking in hoodie filled corridors at school, ppl mistook me for a teacher all the time. (shirts I still love so much I will be buried in one so crisp you could cut someone with it and so bright it'll temporarily blind you if you look directly at it lol)
I would also totally recommend thrift stores when trying out a new style!! You can get a lot of pieces for cheaper and it's less of a risk if you end up not liking the style bc you didn't spend a ton of money on it

So totally only do this if you want to, but if you have work to do during this quarantine like, maybe working from home or going to school, getting dressed will actually make you more productive. This is called embodied cognition (well, this is a subset of embodied cognition called enclothed cognition, but same diff) and it's really helped me do my school work :)
Another tip I suggest is looking at movie characters who’s style you like. Since they exist in their little bubble of existence, they can’t change and follow current trends which more often then not, you follow cause you see a lot of people wearing and then get sick of.
I have mainly black t-shirts. I have one piece of clothing in 3 different colours which I wear on hot days but I don't like the cleverage so I mainly wear them at home. In my wardrobe is a grey dress that I want to wear more but I don't know how which is still better than the grey-brownish woollen blazer that I got thanks to my mom [and she annoys me with saying that I should wear it more often]. It's warm enough that it only makes sense during cold days but at the same time moving my arm even a tiny bit means exposing my wrist to the cold. Yeah, the next time I go through my closet I cm going to get rid of it

Understanding that your style journey is an ongoing process that is never fully complete, is really key. I have a terrible habit of wanting to curate the "perfect" wardrobe right now and buying a bunch of items all at once. I have since decluttered or don't wear most of what I've purchased over the past few years 😩 Your content is just so positive and inspiring! I wish I had known all of these things when I was young like you, and could have saved myself years of feeling unattractive and uncomfortable in my clothing. But I'm very grateful to have found your channel.

I feel most people are lacking the confidence to be themselves because they aren't completely open towards how other people express themselves. What we personally find uncomfortable, we tend to think of negative thoughts first-hand because it's something different which feels alien to you. I feel that in order to be more confident you have to accept others for who they are and see everyone more open minded. That in hand makes you more comfortable wearing what you want because others see you being yourself and don't judge you for it

I personally love vintage, minimalism, dark & light academia, and also a basic outfit consisting of a crop top and high waisted bottoms. I’m definitely figuring out how to wind them in together that is uniquely me. 💕
Story: In high school I literally wore dresses every. single. day. Most people knew or people in my class just knew that I wore dresses every day. One day I showed up to school in jeans and I visited my friend in another class and she was like "you're wearing pants!!" and some random guy in her class looks over, and pops in like "I don't even KNOW you and I know you wear dresses every day" yeetin
every time i wear jeans random people are like no dress?? and if i do wear jeans it’s jeans flats and a blouse i wore a hoodie and jeans one day and my friends thought i was dying

Genuinely thank you so much for this. I've spent so much time buying random thrifted clothes that I just kind of like. This really helped me think about what I really like wearing and it helped find my personal style. I ended up clearing out 75% of my wardrobe, selling and donating it all, and then buying clothes I actually would wear and love. You probably won't see this but thank you Ashley!
I really love how Ashley just increases our confidence by her amazing personality. Most of the times, we are all surrounded by people who either judge us for our style or are more stylish than us which makes us insecure as hell! When I put together a nice outfit that really makes me feel comfortable and "100% my style" i take a pic of the whole look and save it to an outfit album on my phone gallery, when i don't know what to wear i just check these outfits and mix the pieces then come up with a few new ones! maybe this advice could help someone

Something I wanted to say about the clashing styles is that I have separate looks for categories of life! for example, my work wardrobe is classic with a bit of an edge, my casual grocery store/hiking outfits have a slight edge but are a bit more sleek and practical, and my going out clothes for literally everything else in my life is ethereal/edgy, natural because the fabrics are more chiffons and silks vs cotton synthetic blends for outdoor. All of the colours go together so I can mix and match styles.
Not fat, pretty and simply a bit bigger. I know it doesn't help having all this stick figure models and influencers and what not but you're like a normal human being 🙂
im kinda late but just know that beauty standards are absolute bullshit and the beauty industry is constantly making up "problems" in order for people to buy their "solution" products - nothing can take away from your own beauty and the only opinion that matters is your own :) i hope you're more comfortable with your body now, sending lots of love

Anytime I had spent time putting an outfit together in middle school or highschool, and walked upstairs happy with it, my mom would turn me around to "fix it". So. What you said in the beginning about fashion being uncomfortable is so relatable. I have sensory issues and the feeling of cloth on my collarbones and neck is intolerable. Turtlenecks are my worst nightmare. Been this way my whole life. Crew necks are even hard if they’re smaller. I’ve just stopped buying them altogether even though I love the look :/

@@sara-vf5xz the skin color thing is just a matter of adjusting the colors slightly so that they match your skin color. Do you have warm or cool skin? If you don't know what I'm talking about then look it up, there's plenty of resources for helping you understand it and figure it out. Took me a while, but I have warm skin color and I love purple, but the purple that is typically sold is too blue and washes me out, eventually I realized that when purple is more red looks amazing on me. Just small adjustments to any color and you can make it work.

Do it! I used to wear skinny high waist jeans with Tshirt so like really basic and stuff and it never felt right. It was okay but not RIGHT. Now I wear (extremely) ripped, Jeans, oversized Tshirt and men's sweater, stuff like that and since this change I feel so much more comfortable and it feels more like myself. You'll find people loving you for beeing that extra. Don't hide in the crowd be special!

i only recently started to put effort in the way i present myself, and i found that small steps help a lot. i remember the first time i was wearing a jean jacket at school instead of some random hoodie and i was so nervous (for no reason at all??). then a girl in my class complimented my jacket (idk if she was being genuine or not) and i got a huge confidence boost

I feel most people are lacking the confidence to be themselves because they aren't completely open towards how other people express themselves. What we personally find uncomfortable, we tend to think of negative thoughts first-hand because it's something different which feels alien to you. I feel that in order to be more confident you have to accept others for who they are and see everyone more open minded. That in hand makes you more comfortable wearing what you want because others see you being yourself and don't judge you for it

One day I showed up to school in jeans and I visited my friend in another class and she was like "you're wearing pants!!" and some random guy in her class looks over, and pops in like "I don't even KNOW you and I know you wear dresses every day"

Genuinely thank you so much for this. I've spent so much time buying random thrifted clothes that I just kind of like. This really helped me think about what I really like wearing and it helped find my personal style. I ended up clearing out 75% of my wardrobe, selling and donating it all, and then buying clothes I actually would wear and love. You probably won't see this but thank you Ashley!
I really love how Ashley just increases our confidence by her amazing personality. Most of the times, we are all surrounded by people who either judge us for our style or are more stylish than us which makes us insecure as hell! Something I wanted to say about the clashing styles is that I have separate looks for categories of life!
for example, my work wardrobe is classic with a bit of an edge, my casual grocery store/hiking outfits have a slight edge but are a bit more sleek and practical, and my going out clothes for literally everything else in my life is ethereal/edgy, natural because the fabrics are more chiffons and silks vs cotton synthetic blends for outdoor. All of the colours go together so I can mix and match styles.

What you said in the beginning about fashion being uncomfortable is so relatable. I have sensory issues and the feeling of cloth on my collarbones and neck is intolerable. Turtlenecks are my worst nightmare. Been this way my whole life. Crew necks are even hard if they’re smaller. I’ve just stopped buying them altogether even though I love the look :/

@@sara-vf5xz the skin color thing is just a matter of adjusting the colors slightly so that they match your skin color. Do you have warm or cool skin? If you don't know what I'm talking about then look it up, there's plenty of resources for helping you understand it and figure it out. Took me a while, but I have warm skin color and I love purple, but the purple that is typically sold is too blue and washes me out, eventually I realized that when purple is more red looks amazing on me. Just small adjustments to any color and you can make it work.
Everyone should love their own style or maybe u don't have any style but that doesn't mean you are guilty or boring type person .....It simply means "just stand on your feet and buy all clothes that you love and wear it even though it doesn't look good on you..bt still wear it"and and and specially if you love western clothes bt cannot wear it ..then it's ok ....bc hiding our body is wayy better than showing off body!

Do it! I used to wear skinny high waist jeans with Tshirt so like really basic and stuff and it never felt right. It was okay but not RIGHT. Now I wear (extremely) ripped, Jeans, oversized Tshirt and men's sweater, stuff like that and since this change I feel so much more comfortable and it feels more like myself. You'll find people loving you for beeing that extra. Don't hide in the crowd be special!
