It’s only considered negative thing for rich people and social media “ influencers”. Never met a person that actually believes this shit except for the super privileged ones.
When I was a kid I wore the same zipped hoodie for two separate non-uniform days at my school (I live in the uk, these days are literally months apart) and some random girl pointed it out to me and it made me self conscious about my outfits for years. Now I don't care but I still don't get why some people refuse to believe you can wear clothes multiple times, I didn't by my washing machine for nothing 😭
ikr i will wear an outfit and then do laundry that night then wear a similar one the next day and someone will be like "um ew you wore those pants yesterday" and im just like "theres this thing called a washing machine bitch"
coats r hard to buy! esp one that fits so well w others. im finding that tan coats r great, same with grey/black coats, green is also surprisingly easy to match. but like for me i have One good coat and change up what i layer :)
Katy Knight • I personally have always loved having many coats, since here in the Netherlands, you’re constantly wearing a coat. But growing up, many kids would get a new coat every other year, and the first year it would be quite big so you would grow into it.
my sister had a friend tell her once that it's better to look consistently good than consistently different. even though he constantly re-wore the same pieces, she said that he always looked super put together. i think it's unrealistic to expect people to dress differently every day, especially if we're thinking about sustainability. clothes should be made to last through multiple uses, and we should be buying clothes that we intend to wear multiple times. if anything, I really like how having a smaller wardrobe forces you to be more creative with your outfits - instead of buying a completely new piece to "freshen up" a look, you can just think about different ways to style/adjust pieces you already own. great video!
hey guys! i wanted to say sorry if i made way too big a deal about outfit repeating in this video. it's literally so normal and i didn't mean to sound judgmental/obnoxious! i kept emphasizing it because for my job there can be a lot of pressure to always have new outfits, and as a gal who loves fashion, my default is spending time in the morning trying to improve my styling skills by creating a new combination of colors/prints/silhouettes. i realize that's super unusual though and not a particularly grounded perspective. i'm excited to make more videos in the future with styling tips on how to reuse and recombine basics and recommendations for closet essentials - and feel free to let me know below what types of fashion vids would be most useful/interesting to you! regardless thanks so much for watching
You didn't sound judgmental or obnoxious at all and I at least appreciated the Lizzie McGuire reference lol. It was clearly not some kind of fashion snob thing and anybody trying to say it was is just being a hater. So yeah your personal thoughts are valid and don't feel bad for a second
It would be really cool if you did a mini series styling individual items for example ‘how to style plaid pants’ or ‘how to style a silk cami’. They would be pretty short videos but I think it would be helpful if people are wondering how to style a specific clothing item
I've literally never understood the outfit repeating thing? Like I bought this so I could wear it? A lot? ?? ? If the people around you call you out for wearing the same outfit you gotta find other people to surround yourself with tbh
Ah ah, I remember a girl in middle school giving me a cookie every break. It took me so long to actually wonder why she even gave me those cookies 😂 Apparently she thought I was poor because I always wore the same stuff. (mind you, we were like 8... We were still growing. Who tf has many clothes at that age.)
“Only 40 items to wear for 6 months”... then you buy 40 more items. I mean I get that she’s in fashion but if that’s limiting to her, it says a lot about how little she understands how bad the fashion industry is for the environment. Even normal people that don’t care about fashion wear and own items for years.
@@WeTheDylan I mean, I get what you're saying. And being into fashion doesn't mean you have to own that many clothes. Maybe it would be better for the environment and maybe your wallet as well to rent clothes. You don't ever have to wear the same clothes twice then. Also, I know that that you can't rent casual clothes (not that I know of anyway) but I kinda feel like that's a hole in the market. Sure, you should have a couple of clothes for yourself at home, stuff that' s rlly comfy. But if you don't plan on wearing stuff twice... There's no point in buying it right? It's just a thought I had btw, I'm not saying anyone is doing something wrong I'm just thinking of other options.
i would rather see repetitive outfits or key items reused in new ways than random things shown once. i think having signature items or a signature look is awesome
Totally agree! And I think it makes much more sense for people who use her posts for inspiration. You get different variations for certain clothes instead of everytime something new where I wouldn‘t even know what else to do with it. Occasionally she can spice her feed up with some freshly new outfits 😁
yea i have never fit 5 pairs of pants inside a carry on. her suitcase is like mary poppins' bag. my travel wardrobe is usually a pair of jeans, a dress, skirt or shorts, and a few all black tops
NO! I immediately played back to watch her pack again. I will be trying the whole stacking pants and rolling technique next time to see if it helps any
I feel like this whole "influencers need a huge wardrobe to post interesting and varied content" is more of a slight competition between influencers than an actual need from followers. Most of us don't have huge wardrobes and we're just trying to make the most out of what we have. I actually really enjoy following influencers with smallish wardrobes who repeat outfits because it's more relatable! great video as always LOVE U :)
I so agree, I felt like Ashley's insta posts that had some repeating pieces were SO helpful in trying to figure out ways to re-spice-up (is that a word?) my own limited wardrobe!!
Honestly finding new ways to wear the same pieces is more “relatable” and helpful to the typical person than, although inspiring, a different outfit each insta post
Agreed! Tho I have too much outfit than I'd like to admit, usually wear a few sweaters and 4~5 jeans... maybe more than one can fit in a suitcase ;) I can pack and travel tho!
@@lexiluna4678 i disagree the relatable part. Because it still feels as if she is relatable. Alot actually. Her personality is still the same. It just feels her income has become better but not to the point that she isnt relatable.
That's definetely more than my actual wardrobe. Not just because I am broke as fuck but also because I hate shopping for clothes and I end up wearing the same jeans with a different T-shirt each day for a whole week.
me neither. sometimes we kind of have to remind ourselves that people wont judge and look for every detail of our lives because they're too busy worrying about the same thing.
Here is a little tip from someone who had to pack her entire life into a suitcase and pack for all four seasons because of studying abroad: 1. mainly stick to basics and pieces that you can layer. Since you don't have endless space in your suitcase I wouldn't recommend to take several chunky knit sweaters with you for winter. Like I said they take up a lot of space and are not very versitile since you won't really get a wear out of them anymore as soon as it will get warmer. So instead choose some thinner basic cardigans, t-shirts, Sweatshirts, tops and henleys that you can layer 😊 2. Get rit of the thought that your outfits always needs to look super fancy. You don't always need a super unique piece of clothing in your outfit in order to look fashionable. Let's be real: pairing for example a plain white tshirt with some cute jeans and some sneakers is a timeless outfit that will always look good and never be out of style. However, this already brings me to my next tip. 3. Choose basics that are not "too basic". What I mean by that is that little details on your clothes can change up the entire look. For example if you pair a plain T-shirt that has some button detailing in the chest area unter a cardigan, will automatically make the entire outfit look more interesting instead of pairing a very basic and plain Shirt underneath without any detailing. 4. Hairstyles and accessories can change up an entire outfit. What you need to keep in mind is that a simple outfit can look totally different depending on which accessories and hairstyles you style them with. Big statement necklaces or dainty jewelry, large earrings or smaller ones, wearing your hair up in a bun, a ponytail or leaving it open. All of those options will entirely change up the way a basic outfit looks. 5. Slip dresses/ spaghetti strap dresses are your best friend. They are literaly one of the most versatile pieces of clothing to wear all year around. You can simply wear them as a dress for days when it's very hot, or wear a Tshirt underneath to change up the style. You can wear them with sneakers to make them look more sporty and laid back or you wear them with heels for a more fancy look. You can even wear them with boots in winter. The great thing about slip dresses is that you can also wear them just as a top, by tugging it into you pants or skirt. Or you can wear it just as a skirt by layering a TShirt or Sweatshirt on Top. On colder days it is also possible to wear a long-sleeved shirt or turtleneck underneath or just throw on a cardigan and some tights 🤗 Also they are usually made of very thin material which makes them super easy to pack because they won't take up a lot of space. 6. Take a limited amount of shoes with you that fit your style an will go with every outfit. For me personally, I took a total of four pairs of shoes with me that I could wear throughout the entire year. 1 pair of white sneakers, 1 pair of black oldschool vans, 1 pair of platform boots and 1 pair of heels for more special occasions. You obviously don't need to take sneakers with you, just pick whatever kind of shoe you like that will work with as many outfits as possible. Especially when it comes to high heels. You might have several cute heels in your collection that you would love to wear on a night out, however you need to consider that shoes take up quite a lot of space in your suitcase. Also when you visit a different country you probably also want to do a lot of exploring, so taking comfortable shoes with you, in which you can walk for hours, is a must. 7. Inform yourself beforehand about the country you will be travelling to. The climate may be completely different from your home country so you should be prepared for that. There is no need to take heavy knit sweaters with you, if the country you are about to visit has a more hot and humid climate throughout the entire year. Also you might want to take less T-Shirts and Hotpants with you if you are visiting a rather cold country. There is also the possibility that some certain types of clothes are considered to be unappropriate for that country, for example clothes that are too short (skirts and shorts) or too revealing. Of course you are free to wear whatever you want but I would still recommend to adapt to the country you are visiting as best as possible in order to not be rude. 8. Plan your outfits in advance and take photographs of them. That way you have enough time to mix and match the different pieces in a various different ways and you will be surprised at how many outfits you will be able to create with a limited number of pieces. Also it will help you to determine which pieces are actually versatile and which pieces can only be worn in a very limited number of styles. This way you can throw out pieces of your collection and change them up with pieces that are a better choice, so you can make the best use of all the pieces in your suitcase. Because remember: The space in a suitcase is limited. Taking photos of those outfits will make it a lot easier for you to decide on what to wear and therefore safe you time and frustration when actually trying to pick your outfit from the limited number of items in your suitcase. I hope those tips where helpful and that everyone was able to understand what I was trying to say, because apparently english is not my first language 😅 If you have any more tips and tricks please let me know 😊
I actually prefer seeing how people reuse their clothing and turn them into different outfits! It's much more inspiring and also sustainable, both for the environment and my wallet haha.
I guess I'm talking in the name of everyone here: we like you because of your personality and your style, not because of the amount of clothing you own... So I guess you shouldn't feel like you need to act "like an influencer" if it doesn't make you happy and should be more confident in your ability to post videos that are interesting and fun thanks to you being yourself. Acting the other way around would sound fake and unrelatable. ❤️
Honestly I love seeing clothes reused on Instagram. When I realize someone is rewearing something a lot, it shows me they love that item and that’s cool. Seeing how it’s styled in multiple ways is even cooler and relatable and gives me more styling ideas for what I already own/a key piece I’m missing. And from a consumer’s perspective, I’m more likely to buy into a product if I see how much use someone else is getting out of it.
I agree! Love to see outfits and items worn several times. Finding what clothes work for you and wearing them over and over is such a testiment of true style
i know that everyone else is talking about how she was cold, or how they repeat their outfits, but I'm more curious about the fact that she went on a first date in a completely different country
Yes! The introspection and “Outrospection??” - contemplating the world is what bring me to the channel. If this is a “fashion channel”, I’m thrilled that’s the fashion!!
While I do agree with her for the most part you don't always have to buy high quality sustainable pieces to have a capsule wardrobe. I've obtained some of my highest quality pants, basics, sweaters and coats from thrift stores for really cheap.
eh idk in her last video she acted like $60 for a vintage dress was a lot of money... but she's bought $600 reformation boots before. It seems like she's trying to be relatable and cheap but she obvs has money
Autumn in LA is not the same as autumn in London. Those of us who grew up in northern climates and not in the US can feel the vice of the icy feeling on our legs simply watching the video and picturing mid to late October London weather. It would never cross our minds to get caught without proper leg wear in the fall. In the US, I don't know what it is, leg wear is not used often. Just the other day, temperatures were I live were dropping from 40's in the morning into the 20's by evening, and there were girls on campus bare legged in their boots. I don't understand.
Why Ashley Is An Icon (and my favorite RUclipsr) 1. She is critical of the cultures/spaces she benefits from; youtube, social media, etc. while remaining a positive example of their potential. 2. She is upfront about her privilege, but is never apologetic about working hard to shape a good life for herself (as so many successful women are expected to be). 3. She talks about money; how much she earns, how she spends it, and how she makes it. Her transparency builds trust and credibility with her audience. 4. She is a savvy and hardworking entrepreneur, but never glamorizes how stressful and overworked she may be in order to make progress in her career. She makes space to talk about burnout and self care. 5. She manages to offer beauty and style advice in a nuanced feminist context that solidifies her authority as a fashion influencer who cares about the way mainstream media influences women personally and politically. 6. Her many monologues about post-grad difficulties, self image struggles, and existential thoughts add an important sense humanity and honesty to her channel. 7. Her style is really on point. 8. But she also adds in clips where she is editing in her pajamas and that realism is really helpful for women to see. Ashley is a real person! 9. She is the protagonist of her own life; she actively seeks opportunities and places that will be fulfilling for her. Whether it is bullet journaling, painting, or travel, her channel has widened into a narrative about a young woman building a vibrant and personally satisfying life. 10. For all the previous reasons, she is the sort of figure that I want to root for. Her sincerity, integrity, and resourcefulness embodies what is going to empower millenial/Gen Z women as we enter the workforce in an oppressive capitalist system. Best of luck Ashley, and I am very glad to have you as a role model (no pressure!!!! *eye twitch*) -Emily
What a great comment! I agree with everything first of all, second of all: really well put honestly lmao, and third of all: super sweet of you to take the time to write it down. As I said: great comment!
Lipgloss 2000 All of this just so that we are obligated to buy more and more and spend ridiculous amount of money bc of a fictional rule that only applies to stuck up celebrities😑
I love how you acknowledge the less fortunate... I've seen Buzzfeed one and they treat it as if it's the worst thing that's ever happened, and they don't even do the challenge ! Bless you girl.
so...i see youre here rewatching all of Ashley's videos because youre bored in quarentine/summer break too... i just want to say i love you, youre beautiful and talented and im so proud of you for being here. stay safe :)
Molly Day i wear most of my clothes right after i wash them. maybe because im very conscious about only purchasing clothing that i really really love and would wear all the time
@@superbright7035 what do you mean what privilege? She has had the right to education to food to water she has the means to travel and shop and everything else. Majority of us that watch this video are priveledged. I'm not rich or anything but I would also say I'm priveledged because I have education and food and don't fear walking down the street like people in other parts of the world. There isn't anything wrong with being priveledged just important to recognise it ❤
@@therhythmictale5574 She is privileged yes indeed she worked for most of it but shes privileged enough to be able to even work for what she wants as well as you and I. So many people are born in poverty or girls are marginalised that they dont have the same opportunity as well as the fact yes she worked for it but she is still probably richer then the average 20 sum year old and that having loads of clothes and money to spend on designer clothes is a privilege no matter how hard you work for it. That's not saying she doesnt deserve it because she does and she should be happy about how far she is and how she can live comfortably because of her efforts but you cant deny she is privileged same with everyone watching this video for having access to a device and internet lol
@@therhythmictale5574 she has definitely worked very hard to get to where she is right now, but you can't deny that her job gives her the "privilege" of getting a LOT of clothes, free or not. there's definitely nothing wrong with that, it doesn't make her any less of a person, it's just a nice plus of her job. now i don't know what the norm is, but as someone who doesn't have a lot of money, and definitely not a lot of clothing, even the amount of clothes in her capsule wardrobe seemed a LOT. like that's at least twice my wardrobe. it's just refreshing to see someone acknowledge that having 200+ items in your wardrobe isn't what most people can do.
Istg when I looked at the shoe shot, in my head - "damn girl is lying down on her bed and getting the shoe shot." But nah, she's Ashley - she'll lie on the effin' floor to get that xD but I love how her mind works and she actually put that in lol
Don’t think you have to stress about repeating outfits, everyone does is and no one will judge you, we honestly watch you’re videos for you as much as we do the fashion, if not more
I guess she was saying that in her position as an online influencer more than us so it makes sense. But I do agree with you that even if she's a fashion influencer, she doesn't have to be restricted in many different kinds of clothing! Her creativity is definitely what made us love her
What is considered "overdressing" should not make anyone feel nervous ever! It is actually very nice if someone looks classy and fashionable in a "traditional way". I'm from Berlin, where _street style_ is the shit and I walk around in oversized punky _so effortless_ stuff myself all day every day. Yet I really appreciate someone just looking tidy and put together. Overdressing is super cool, you people!

Vera_chan nope, it always has been in movies, shows, cartoons and so many other medias, even before social media existed the one kid who wore the same clothes everyday gets called poor or sth, ig or other social media sites have nothing to do with it, as its always been a huge issue, just because ig makes you feel insecure doesnt mean u should blame every issue on it lmao
Vera_chan instagram, youtube and so many other medias, while you made it seem like the blame is SOLELY on instagram, if you dont want people to “assume things about your life” maybe you should consider not putting yourself in positions that will make people judge you.
I'm months late, but if you're watching this in the future: you can wear dresses in the UK in the autumn(fall) and winter, but y'all need to get your asses into some wool tights. We have many colours 🤩
the idea of having an "influencer" actively addressing the idea that you can have a smaller amount of clothes and still be highly creative and fashionable is super important! we need voices supporting slow fashion and sustainability overall. thrifting is already such cool thing, and you do such a good job of showing how you can be creative and put your own touch on secondhand clothes. most people can't afford to/ don't have lots of clothes and having examples of how we can do that while still expressing ourselves with fashion is so helpful. cheers from canada!
Anya Ingram You might enjoy other channels such as Wonder Wardrobe! She makes lots of capsules for different occasions/bodies/themes with ethical brands to show that it is easy!
So wasteful how society looks down on reusing outfits. Imagine all the $10,000 dresses we saw on the red carpet that will never be worn again. It's honestly depressing.
@@polinaracheeva9163 this is late but lol I’ve reworn my prom dress (what was meant to be my prom dress, it never happened bc of COVID) multiple times. What’s the point of never wearing the most beautiful (and pricey) clothing item you own?
Do more fashion challenges. Like "1 skirt 20 ways" or "1 dress X amount of ways" etc... or how to coordinate colors. You dont need an extensive wardrobe to be fahsionable.
honestly, i love when i see people that i like on instagram repeating outfits or a piece of clothing, it makes me remember "oh, they are actually human too"
As I don't have so much clothes, I love when someone's pieces of clothing are repeating because I can see how they incorporate those pieces to make different outfits. So outfits and pieces of clothing repeating is something good, in my opinion at least
Personally I feel like you having some "staple" pieces that you create different looks around is more realistic than having a thousand different items. the average person probably just has a few staples with the occasional ~special~ piece thrown in, and its easier for viewers to attain
You guys, Yes, 30-40 pieces is still a lot of clothing to a “normal” person, but you can create a capsule wardrobe with half or even a quarter of that amount of clothing. The point of a capsule wardrobe is to cut down on buying clothes, and to increase the variety of outfits you can create with pieces you already have. That’s the point of the video
Exactly. Considering fashion is Ashley's job 30 peices including everything is not bad at all. It's all about finding the balances within your own situation.
I love this video because two years later, all her pieces in this video are still cute and in style. The fact that I still want to wear these clothes to London this year shows that this is quality content
@@mooble1325 5-10°C FOR A SKIRT??? WITHOUT ANYTHING UNDERNEATH?? That is sick, and I mean sick in a bad way. Instagram is not worth more than your health.
is it just me that actually likes when i see ashley or other youtubers wear something i've seen them wear before? idk i guess it reminds me that they don't an infinite amount of clothes which makes them feel more relatable and genuine, which in my opinion is better than always having different new outfits
I've seen Ashley wear that princess polly tie up top quite a few times, and to me it just shows me how much she truly loves it! And also that clearly the quality must be good too! If anything clothing that stands the test of time and doesn't disappear with trends makes me want to buy it more! ♡
Mikale Thomas Yes! I’ve seen a lot of fashion channels where people had a capsule wardrobe and all the outfits in videos were still diferent and interesting to watch and I was like “oh, I remember this piece of clothing from the last video. Now it looks completely different matching other pieces. That’s cool”
Yeah, like I love seeing all the different items and it shows how you can wear different clothes, but it would be nice to see a more realistic for us lookbook or fashion video.
I personally like it more when youtubers don't have a crazy amount of clothes or make up - Id rather see what u can do with less because it means a normal human being can achieve looking cute as well without having a ton of things. It makes it more real. I'm watching yt cuz I wanna see real people dress - otherwise I could just go and buy a high fashion Magazin. Also That's what fast fashion tells us - u have to have everything and u can only wear it once. It puts a crazy amount of social pressure on us while being really bad for people and the environment. Its crazy what kind of a world we've created.
I didn't even notice any 'monotony' on your insta, I'd much rather see you styling the same pieces in different ways so we can all learn how to make the most of our clothing and be a bit more sustainable :)
You’re so hard on yourself, love. Everyone outfit repeats and it’s realistic and more relatable than always feeling the need to have a different outfit every IG post. You’re beautiful and your style is immaculate. Give yourself more credit and love!!! 💖
You're so right.. but she's actually only doing what people expect from her (i mean not us probably but like "strangers") .. when there's a blogger wearing the similar shirt two times people go crazy
Merisu _ Exactly. There is an insane amount of pressure on social media these days and it makes me sad that validation comes from how many likes we get or the number of comments. Everyone is so beautiful in there own way and that is what makes everyone unique and screw this unimaginable standard for influencer. They’re real humans too!
I love how Ashley's videos are like "capsule wardrobe for a month" but we leave learning and realising the power of media has on people or how capitalism is using our thoughts and insecurities for its benefit and a bunch of other things. Like that video she made about tiktok. We really sat there and started thinking about how much more exposure to things kids are getting than before and jdifjf. I LOVE IT
Honestly im not poor, poor, but I’m not in any way or form of the word rich. And personally sometimes people seem fake humble and it bothers me, they’re not being considerate it’s almost like humble bragging. And just morally incorrect, bothersome. Instead of rubbing poor people’s faces in it, it would be overall more positive if you just said “x thing is a good deal” or “y is an alternative to b, thats more affordable” not make poor people feel worse about their lack of money.
Like even when people say “it sounds like a first world problem” it bothers me because it’s really condescending and it makes the person the center of the conversation. How about instead of saying how “guilty” you feel about something, you actually try being nice to a “poor” person or something similar. I truly wonder if the people who say these things actually are as considerate as they claim to be.
I want to see you do this same concept but when you’re actually prepared for the weather. I feel like you weren’t able to get the most out of your capsule wardrobe, because you ended up having to dress warmer than you expected. If you would have picked more items suited for the environment you were in, like more outerwear or sweaters and less camisoles and short-sleeves, I feel like you would have gotten a lot more variety out of a capsule wardrobe. Please try this again in LA or New York :)
In Europe it’s totally normal to repeat the same outfit a couple times in a week! Also everyone is usually preoccupied with themselves they don’t notice others’ outfits...
@@alaskaisawarmplace5257 (for reference im native to nyc and i wear the same outfit to work twice in one week and no one even bats an eye cuz they do the same lol)
I think she counts shoes and bags too, it's about 6 items, so 24-34 pieces of clothes, not quite overwhelming for a fashion blogger concidering the need for outerwear for cold weather, sleepwear, etc. I don't usually count my clothes and shoes, but I think I in my entire house I have only a few more clothing items than Ashley does in her suitcase LOL I am not a blogger though
@@reyam1218 they meant that Ashley addressed what the op asked (Ashley being afraid of taking pics in front of houses) in her video on how to take photos while using self timer
the key is i never take photos on the steps/property of like a single family house bc that's high key trespassing - i just go on the stoops of apartment buildings, in which case i'm still very nervous people will come out but they usually just give me a weird look and i say sorry and scurry away back into the wilderness
i outfit repeat like it's my job. whenever i get a new piece of clothing i just want to wear it all the time. and i do. so outfit repeat if you want sisterrrr
Haha I thought the same thing. I have so many clothes but I keep wearing my favorite items in combination with whatever are my latest pieces. Guess I should declutter my wardrobe...
i honestly would love to see you do more of that “realistic” clothing styling, where you make the pieces you have in your closet look “new” and “different” without breaking the bank. while i’m sure many of us would LOVE to buy more clothes all the time, but it’s just not realistic for non-influencers imo. also i would love to see you style different people with different body types? idk if you would ever be down to do that but it would be so dope to see on differing body types and styles!
I know she already acknowledged being privileged enough to consider this a challenge but the bit about outerwear really made me realize how far apart any fashion content is from my reality. Coats are expensive so I've had like a couple good ones for years, and it's normal for me to wear them over every outfit. I never matched my coats to my outfit because it was more a matter of weather if you have like a lighter coat and a thicker one. I thought that was normal. I come from a working class family but I know myself to be privileged in other senses, like I know there are people who actually struggle to afford basic daily things and then seeing there's people for whom 40 items of clothes per season is a restriction it really gives you a different perspective
lucy ossi lol me tooo. And I was like “I have To much clothes. I’m so grateful” lol and then Ashley cones along lol. Baby I’ve been living that capsule wardrobe life
I mean I did not come from a poor family, and still never had more than one coats 😂 When I had the opportunity to choose my current coat (thanks mom) I had to choose a universal one, and since those do not exist, and I wanted it to look pretty with dresses, I've been freezing since in the past 4 or 5 years😂😂😂 So worth it
I am in love with the process of restyling and getting creative with the same pieces time and time again. I don't see how that could possibly be a negative thing... Especially if your channel is about getting creative with clothing, I think it is really inspiring (not to mention attainable) when influencers such as yourself take advantage of the opportunity to show just how fun and creative the process of putting an outfit together can be, no matter how many articles of clothing you own. I loved this challenge!
Contrary, to popular belief, a capsule wardrobe isn't just beneficial to people with too many clothes, or people who are financially well off. It also helps people like me who are pretty limited in funds. It allows me the chance to look put together even if I'm poor. I don't invest in expensive clothing items either. I shop in the clearance section, and I take advantage of sales. Especially clearance sales. Also, I try to pick items that won't fall apart easily, and I take good care of my clothes (making sure I don't use too much detergent. No fabric softener. Avoiding hot water in the wash. Using a lint roller. Only use spray deodorant instead of the stick etc). I have a 24 piece capsule wardrobe. Here is a description of my capsule wardrobe: *Shoes* 1) Black sneakers with white soles 2) Black chunky ankle boots 3) Nude 3-inch heels *Tops* 4) Black scoop neck long-sleeved jersey shirt. 5) Red, cropped, scoop neck, long-sleeved, and ribbed top. It has 4 clip buttons. 6) Black v-neck t-shirt 7) Black, square-necked, long-sleeve shirt 8) Grey oversized long-sleeve sweater. Can be worn off the shoulder or a very loose neck 9) Cream turtle neck sweater 10) Black hoodie *Dresses* 11) Black long-sleeve dress with a heart neckline. Tight on the top, flowy on the bottom 12) I have the same dress in a red/orange color. The color looks red or orange or pink depending on what you wear it with.
A fire fit should work multiple times
I don’t get when people stress about wearing an outfit twice..like I got a washing machine for a reason lmao
exactly i mean clothes are not for only one use
ikr i will wear an outfit and then do laundry that night then wear a similar one the next day and someone will be like "um ew you wore those pants yesterday" and im just like "theres this thing called a washing machine bitch"
Truth!! People cared so much in high school but once college hit everyone was in sweats and yoga pants lol 🤣🤣
It’s mainly because she’s a fashion RUclipsr so is EXPECTED to wear different clothes in every Instagram post but I understand what you’re saying
SO GOOD for the enviroment to repeat! :) also it just shows you have done a very good purchase! And get a lot of wear out of something
It’s very normal for people to wear the same coat daily.
coats r hard to buy! esp one that fits so well w others. im finding that tan coats r great, same with grey/black coats, green is also surprisingly easy to match. but like for me i have One good coat and change up what i layer :)
I use the same coat or jacket throughout winter. I have like one nice coat but I barely ever wear it.
I've worn the same coat for 2 years because it was expensive for me
uhm, people do.
Emily Thanks for sharing! This is spot-on for me.
Exactly! Good advice. And let's not forget about accessories!
Emily i love this

Emily that’s the French way 🙏❤️🇫🇷
hey guys! i wanted to say sorry if i made way too big a deal about outfit repeating in this video. it's literally so normal and i didn't mean to sound judgmental/obnoxious! i kept emphasizing it because for my job there can be a lot of pressure to always have new outfits, and as a gal who loves fashion, my default is spending time in the morning trying to improve my styling skills by creating a new combination of colors/prints/silhouettes. i realize that's super unusual though and not a particularly grounded perspective. i'm excited to make more videos in the future with styling tips on how to reuse and recombine basics and recommendations for closet essentials - and feel free to let me know below what types of fashion vids would be most useful/interesting to you! regardless thanks so much for watching
no need to apologize- it's nice to hear your thoughts
bestdressed yess reuse and recombine, I love that 💕
You’re wonderful Ashley, please don’t feel bad!! 💕
Allie Parton honestly
Also, I have a washing machine. It’s not like I wear it without washing or something😂
Ah ah, I remember a girl in middle school giving me a cookie every break. It took me so long to actually wonder why she even gave me those cookies 😂
Apparently she thought I was poor because I always wore the same stuff.
It's just a thought I had btw, I'm not saying anyone is doing something wrong I'm just thinking of other options.
i would rather see repetitive outfits or key items reused in new ways than random things shown once. i think having signature items or a signature look is awesome
that's right! love it when people have their "own look" you can recognize
yes hope she sees this
Totally agree! And I think it makes much more sense for people who use her posts for inspiration. You get different variations for certain clothes instead of everytime something new where I wouldn‘t even know what else to do with it. Occasionally she can spice her feed up with some freshly new outfits 😁

am i the only one baffled on how she fit 40 pieces into that small suitcase?!
yea i have never fit 5 pairs of pants inside a carry on. her suitcase is like mary poppins' bag. my travel wardrobe is usually a pair of jeans, a dress, skirt or shorts, and a few all black tops
For real, I get 2 sweaters in a suitcase and it's ALL OVER

I will be trying the whole stacking pants and rolling technique next time to see if it helps any

Here is a little tip from someone who had to pack her entire life into a suitcase and pack for all four seasons because of studying abroad:
1. mainly stick to basics and pieces that you can layer. Since you don't have endless space in your suitcase I wouldn't recommend to take several chunky knit sweaters with you for winter. Like I said they take up a lot of space and are not very versitile since you won't really get a wear out of them anymore as soon as it will get warmer. So instead choose some thinner basic cardigans, t-shirts, Sweatshirts, tops and henleys that you can layer 😊
I hope those tips where helpful and that everyone was able to understand what I was trying to say, because apparently english is not my first language 😅

Seeing how it’s styled in multiple ways is even cooler and relatable and gives me more styling ideas for what I already own/a key piece I’m missing. And from a consumer’s perspective, I’m more likely to buy into a product if I see how much use someone else is getting out of it.

Why Ashley Is An Icon (and my favorite RUclipsr)
*eye twitch*)

This is why tights are an essential! You can double layer them, get different thickness and play with the patterns to change an outfit!

Outfit repeat for life girl. Sustainability means more to me personally than whatever bullshit ig leads us to believe.
Except that, the hate on outfit repeating has been a thing way before ig was even a thing, how is ig leading us to believe in anything lmao
Vera_chan instagram, youtube and so many other medias, while you made it seem like the blame is SOLELY on instagram, if you dont want people to “assume things about your life” maybe you should consider not putting yourself in positions that will make people judge you.

the idea of having an "influencer" actively addressing the idea that you can have a smaller amount of clothes and still be highly creative and fashionable is super important! we need voices supporting slow fashion and sustainability overall. thrifting is already such cool thing, and you do such a good job of showing how you can be creative and put your own touch on secondhand clothes. most people can't afford to/ don't have lots of clothes and having examples of how we can do that while still expressing ourselves with fashion is so helpful. cheers from canada!
Anya Ingram You might enjoy other channels such as Wonder Wardrobe! She makes lots of capsules for different occasions/bodies/themes with ethical brands to show that it is easy!
ayyy a fellow canadian
Anya Ingram agreed!!
So wasteful how society looks down on reusing outfits. Imagine all the $10,000 dresses we saw on the red carpet that will never be worn again. It's honestly depressing.
Yes it is
But quite often the dresses/outfits worn on on the red carpet are rented and go back to the shops afterwards
those one-time use dresses are usually rented/borrowed. and then i believe the designer alters it for future use.
Think of something even more evident: festive, prom and wedding dresses
Ikr. Tbh I’m only in middle school and I re-wear outfits all the time, so I guess no one really cares yet
I completely agree with you.
Btw yes, I am the 100th like of your comment.😅
Marta D. Agreed! It’s interesting to how the same piece of clothing can be incorporated into different outfits
I repeat what I wear each week...
Personally I feel like you having some "staple" pieces that you create different looks around is more realistic than having a thousand different items. the average person probably just has a few staples with the occasional ~special~ piece thrown in, and its easier for viewers to attain
You guys,
Yes, 30-40 pieces is still a lot of clothing to a “normal” person, but you can create a capsule wardrobe with half or even a quarter of that amount of clothing.
I have a lot of clothes, but most doesn't fit. I'm cleaning it out later 🤷
I love this video because two years later, all her pieces in this video are still cute and in style. The fact that I still want to wear these clothes to London this year shows that this is quality content
*When your whole life is a capsule wardrobe challenge bc you don't even own as many clothes as she brought with her*
Omg yes I have like 4 dresses and one sandal i wear to uni everyday, this video looks like a dream to me
can someone tell me how she was able to wear skirts outside, in LONDON, in OCTOBER!!!-
Idk how someone from LA does it, as someone from Seattle in London, fairly easily you just become numb and it doesn't phase you
That's how she managed to get cold
it's really not that bad it's been hovering around 5-10° for the last month or so which is fine for skirts. the no tights thing was a bold move though
High boots, high socks
@@mooble1325 5-10°C FOR A SKIRT??? WITHOUT ANYTHING UNDERNEATH?? That is sick, and I mean sick in a bad way. Instagram is not worth more than your health.
is it just me that actually likes when i see ashley or other youtubers wear something i've seen them wear before? idk i guess it reminds me that they don't an infinite amount of clothes which makes them feel more relatable and genuine, which in my opinion is better than always having different new outfits
Abby Cranfield yes i love it !!! Much more relatable and a way to show their talent to assemble outfits with the same items
Yes! I especially live when they have their "favourite" top and you know it's their favourite cause you have seen them wear it a lot.
100000000% agree, would PREFER to see how you can mix things up with the same pieces!
Abby Cranfield I like it because if it’s a really pretty item and I never see it again I’m like, where is it?!
I've seen Ashley wear that princess polly tie up top quite a few times, and to me it just shows me how much she truly loves it! And also that clearly the quality must be good too! If anything clothing that stands the test of time and doesn't disappear with trends makes me want to buy it more! ♡
"maybe I rely to much on clothes for my own self identity" me too Ashley
I'd rather see the same items restyled over and over again.
Exactly, way more realistic for most of us and so helpful!
I would like this comment but there are 666 likes.

I LOVE IT
yes well said
Agreed!! I loved hearing about all of her thoughts and reflections - that's what really made the video for me
Honestly im not poor, poor, but I’m not in any way or form of the word rich.
Sorry but I had to give you the 3001st Like
I want to see you do this same concept but when you’re actually prepared for the weather.
"in europe" i think that's a pretty normal human thing 😂 it;s not like people wear an outfit once and burn it

Ashley: 30-40 clothes...

Ashley: talking about having only one warm coat with her
Me: wondering if I ever had two coats at the same time
I mean I did not come from a poor family, and still never had more than one coats 😂
When I had the opportunity to choose my current coat (thanks mom) I had to choose a universal one, and since those do not exist, and I wanted it to look pretty with dresses, I've been freezing since in the past 4 or 5 years😂😂😂
So worth it
I am in love with the process of restyling and getting creative with the same pieces time and time again.

Here is a description of my capsule wardrobe:
*Shoes*
1) Black sneakers with white soles
2) Black chunky ankle boots
3) Nude 3-inch heels
*Tops*
4) Black scoop neck long-sleeved jersey shirt.
5) Red, cropped, scoop neck, long-sleeved, and ribbed top. It has 4 clip buttons.
6) Black v-neck t-shirt
7) Black, square-necked, long-sleeve shirt
8) Grey oversized long-sleeve sweater. Can be worn off the shoulder or a very loose neck
9) Cream turtle neck sweater
10) Black hoodie
*Dresses*
11) Black long-sleeve dress with a heart neckline. Tight on the top, flowy on the bottom
12) I have the same dress in a red/orange color. The color looks red or orange or pink depending on what you wear it with. Also, it can be tucked in to look like a top
13) White spaghetti strap dress (like the one Cher wore in Clueless) Can be turned into a top or shirt and easily layered. Literally my most diverse clothing item.
14) Long, black off-the-shoulder chiffon dress. Can be worn on or off the shoulder. Can be turned short, or can be turned into a top
*Pants*
15) Navy semi-bell bottom pants. It's very tight on the top, but goes straight after the knees. My most flattering pants
16) Black ripped jeans
17) Light washed high waisted skinny jeans
18) Black bellbottom ribbed leggings. Looks like pants. Can be worn up or down
*Outerwear*
19) Brown trench coat with black buttons.
20) white and grey pinstriped blazer
21) Black cardigan
22) Black diamond quilted coat
*Bags*
23) Brown and black cross-bodysa bag that can be turned into a purse
24) Puffy army green tote bag.
I'm really into slow fashion, so having less clothes isn't bad thing.
