I was a "lunch lady" and the baker at an elementary school for about 6yrs. A car accident left me unable to return to the job but it was definitely one of my favorite jobs. We made EVERYTHING from scratch including all the breads including hamburger buns. We boiled turkeys and picked the meat off the bone. We made real food not mystery patties from the freezer. We taught those kids to eat well and homemade. This recipe brought bake some happy memories. Vegelene! Oh my goodness that stuff was the best but hard to find in my area.
I still remember the lunch ladies in elementary school, names & where they lived, had a paper route! Brought back good memories! You gave a lot of kids happy memories! Bless you😇
Wow! Execellento, Bro Jeffrey, What a Awesome, Looking Old School Pizza, May God Bless You! To Continue, To Present Awesome Tasty! Looking Meals! 🍕👌❤🔥🙏💯
I did it! My bread has been a hit & miss using a bread machines (gave up on them). I made sure to use a warm the bowl for the kitchen aid, only have the aluminum, so I put it on the stove, it took about 15 min., & my yeast developed just like yours! Followed your directions…..WALLA! It tasted almost like I remembered, I put a little to much sauce, other than that it was a great success! I’m going to invest in the glass handled bowl. Thank you so much, really enjoy your videos, look forward to trying more of your “old school recipes”. I’ll give you a wave if I see you around Katy😊
I went to New York & Michigan schools in the 60's and 70's I never got no pizza like the one Chef cooked. This must have been served in southern schools.
Man, a lot of ppl stress about the sauce/cheese but Pizza is a DOUGH dish, going fresh with that makes the most difference! Way to go Chef Jeff, love your vids and congrats on 40k subs.
Great recipe and work! This brings back some good memories. I was high school in the’80s, ‘86 grad. I remember our pizza had a thick, soft dough with ground meat which kinda infused in the bread. I think the sauce was cooked in the ground meat first and then baked with the dough along with the cheese. My great aunt was the head cook at my school and man, do I wish I could have asked for the recipe when she retired. She passed away in the summer after my graduation but I’ll forever have her memory and the great pizza she and the rest of the lunchroom ladies made. Especially their spaghetti!
Chef, people can learn a lot from you about great cooking and saving money by making meals from scratch at home. Thank you, you really are helping families. Kind regards from Sydney, Australia.
Chef Jeffrey, you have a knack for making things look easy! I'm one of those peeps who are "intimidated' by making dough. Thanks for showing us how it's done! :-)
Love it! This is the exact kind of pizza my mom made us growing up. Not with homemade crust, but boxed mix. 🙃 But with hamburger and if we had enough money it would have pepperoni! Love this and hamburger pizza is still my favorite! Thanks, Chef! Gonna make this version for dinner this week!!
Just love this recipe! It’s my go to, & is pretty close to what I used to have for lunch @ school. Wishing you & yours Happy Holidays😊 Update: Made this numerous times. Just made it for Monday Night Football & AL Playoff! Perfect!💯💯💯
I worked as a junior high school lunch lady and every Thursday morning we’d make the pizza crusts for the entire school district for lunch that day. From scratch! Then press the crusts into huge pans. It was fun! Your pizza looks delicious. ❤
Oh yeah, looks dank! I learned how to make pizza dough a little over a year ago. Almost every video I watched on YT or recipe i read online made it seem difficult and intimidating. Took me a while to finally go for it but we haven't bought a pizza ever again. Your video was very good, removed the mystery and showed how simple it is. You just have to take the time. I hope all the viewers give it a try. No offense to the pizzarias or restaurants but every pizza I make tastes better than the last, I've never been to a restaurants that could do that. Homemade is where it's at. TL:DR Great video, homemade pizza is the best!
I used a 9 1/2” x 13”, it’s a vintage pan from my grandma’s farm, but any pan close to this size will work if you’re making the single recipe. The first time I just added onion powder to melted butter, didn’t give much flavor. This time I melted a little fresh in the butter, had a more garlic flavor on the crust. My grandkids had fun using the mixer & kneading the dough. It’s great learning for kids to measure, follow the written directions, and have fun. Sorry I didn’t get back to you, had a family issue out of state.
Growing up we didn't have a lot of money. So my mom would buy a boxed pizza crust mix and it always had ground beef and cheese. We were lucky enough to have it once or twice a month. Which to us was always a treat! And it was our absolute favorite. It is still a favorite of mine today. Of course I make the dough now instead of a box. But this reminded me of that and I will definitely be trying this recipe!
I really enjoyed watching you make this. When my kids were growing up, we made our homemade pizza every Friday night. They each got their own piece of dough to roll out and make their pizza. One important thing I had to remember was that they were learning, and that it was going into a hot oven. They had fun and of course I taught them about being hygienic while they were cooking, but I often found myself praying that some of what I saw would burn off and die in the oven, lol. I hope that this little tidbit helps the parents who try this with their kids to enjoy this time!
Good morning Chef. This is by far better than the cafeteria pizza I ever ate in school and even compared to what they serve at my daughter's school now. I'm sure if the kids had your pizza, they would never complain. Your pizza turned out beautiful. Usually when I buy a pizza pie, I also order a salad to go with it to make it a somewhat "healthy" meal. I'm definitely going to try making this. thanks again for sharing another great recipe.
I just started watching you a few weeks ago. I have made several of your dishes. I love it!! I love to see a person love what he does and does what they love. Thank you for step by step instructions. Thank you for cooking for your neighbors and others. I see you recently retired after 34 years I think. Where did you retire from? Congrats 🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉
This Pizza 🍕 looks so good. Nothing like homemade pizza 😋. Unfortunately when I was a kid we never even seen Pizza on the menu. I graduated in 1970. I guess way back then the schools hadn't got kids friendly yet!!!! Chef Jeffery I love how you put a lot of cheese on it. I'm a extra cheese person! Continue to keep stiring up your gifts for the Lord Chef Jeffery 🎁🎁
I love this SERIES!!! Oh yes we lived for pizza day. Usually it was cheese but sometimes they would have pepperoni and others like yours both meats. They would serve a small salad with it. Mmm mmm good. The memories. Thank you chef...😋
You know you can throw down I'm trying everything I see you make thank you for the videos because I had a brain stroke and seemed like afterward I couldn't remember how to cook anymore I couldn't season my food anymore to The taste of my liking so I ended up looking at food videos and out of all the food videos you stand out the most to me because when I tried for the first time to make curry chicken it was so delicious and I got all of my taste back and I watch all of your videos to find out what I'm going to cook next I've been eating very well not ordering out anymore thank you I've always wanted to learn how to make a pizza. And believe me this pizza looks divine I remember those pizza when I was coming up in school
Will you just make one and bring it to Dallas. I can never get my dough right. Not for pizza, peach cobbler, chicken and dumplings. So hit me up when you come to Dallas I will be the one with the plates 😆
Unbelievable!!! I have looked all over for this recipe! I was viewing your chicken dressing recipe for tomorrow & this video popped up. And...ur in the Houston area, as am I. Can't wait to try your recipes. Lord I plead the blood of Jesus over this dressing.😔
Hello 👋 Jeff, I just love ❤️ you and your gift of cooking. I watches you all the time. You are one of my favorite chefs. Thank you so much 🙏🏾 keep doing what you are doing. You are truly a blessing. I pray God bless you good.
Thank you very much for this recipe Chef Jeff .I am a bit older than you ( just a few years) but definitely remember the pizzas in elementary school and they were always awesome …really appreciate your teaching us this …
# old school soul food. Chef you are so on point. I make homemade pizza as well for many years. I make it exactly like you do. But I put melted butter and garlic powder around the crust before or after the baking process. I use Italian sausage instead of ground beef and add Italian seasoning. But all of your techniques are the same. We are made of the same cloth. My brother from a different mother. Enjoy your presentations. That pizza turned out fabulous.
I remember this pizza from growing up and you made it exactly how I remember. You are outstanding! Thanks for the recipe and the memories! Awesome chef!👍🏻👏🏻
Once again you got me !! gotta try that pizza dough nice and simple LOVE the back school episodes keeping it old school with that good soul!! take care 💚

Yes!!! I remember those ole school cafeteria pizzas from the 80's!!!! Home made pizza and your looks so tastie!!! Great foods always and videos! Keep up the awesome work:)!!
Baking from scratch is very intimidating for me I appreciate the confidence scratch bakers have 👍

Vegelene! Oh my goodness that stuff was the best but hard to find in my area.
Yep, back in the day the food was homemade school lunches but not today. The food mostly comes in a box to be heated up. Ugh!
Could you please help me with a food memory? On soup day, there was a peanut butter roll that I would love to know the recipe for. I'm in NC.
I still remember the lunch ladies in elementary school, names & where they lived, had a paper route! Brought back good memories! You gave a lot of kids happy memories! Bless you😇

It saves money and is better for you. I cook from scratch mostly. Home economics is badly needed in schools now. I started cooking at an early age.
Chef Jeffrey, you have a knack for making things look easy! I'm one of those peeps who are "intimidated' by making dough. Thanks for showing us how it's done! :-)
This really brought back memories, I always looked forward to Pizza day. I was looking for this old school recipe so thank you very much!
I LOVE watching you bake and cook. I absolutely LOVE your YT channel. :D

Wow this is the best/easiest recipe of the old school SCHOOL pizza! I use to love this in middle school!

I sooooo agree!! I started making mine a couple years ago. Folks would ask if I wanted to order pizza...I am like naaaw.😜
That's one reason I've never made pizza dough. It just looked so intimidating. I think I'll give this a shot.
I’m making this tomorrow - Sunday football! I shared with my sister. We remember this from grade school! Thanks for this great recipe & video.

May have been just a simple pizza but at the end of the video I was damn hungry for a couple on slices of it. Good video Thank you
OMG that looks descrumptious! I I love the idea of putting cheese on it twice, and also the garlic butter.
Love how you clean as you cook! I’m that way too! More people need this habit!
