- The Tampa Bay Skyway Bridge is home to a wide variety of fish species, sheepshead being one of the many residents. Hop in the boat with me as we search for supper on this adventure. Sheepshead are a favorite winter time fishery here in Tampa Bay. Many people target them around rockpiles, docks, ledges, pilings, and seawalls. They are associated with crusty shell entangled structure. They have unique teeth that allow them to crunch on barnacles, mussels, sand fleas, shrimp, crabs, anything that's crunchy! Live or fresh shrimp, fiddler crabs, and sand fleas are favorite choices. Many people use barnacle scrapings as chum to get sheepshead on the feed! Be sure to watch this adventure to catch some valuable sheepshead fishing tips.

Crushing it Capt! 👍
No you're Crushing it! Look at your channel growing! Thanks brother.
Nice video. Great explanation of when to change up your setup. New sub here...from Tampa as well. Mainly fish off my SUP but certainly getting the bug for a boat!
Hey thanks for your comment. Glad the video helped you.
Boats are fun, and expensive!!
At 5:25 in... that was a mean hook set. lol Nice Vid!
Haha yeah wasn't letting that one get away!
Wow,,, wow,,,, I lovely sheepshead 👌👌👌😍🇺🇸
Lovely
Another awesome video!! Hopefully I’ll meet you guys sometime
Yeah that would be awesome. Email headfirstfishing@gmail.com anytime .
Awesome video, loads of fish catching action. Thanks for the great tips.
Thanks, no prob man. What was your favorite part?
Great video that it is the reason I became your fan
God bless you and your family
God bless you too Juan :)
Good Morning.
First time viewing your channel.
Great explanation of how you fish. Just did tell what bait you were using? Going to try and come over there in the next couple of weeks. This will be my first time over in that area. Do you have any suggestions for a day of fishing and where do you put the boat in? Ramps close by?
Thanks Ed
Ed, live shrimp or mangrove/mud/fiddler crabs is the ticket for sheepshead. I would go to Maximo Boat Ramp.
Nice job!
Thanks bro
Now to tampa cant wait to go after some of those sheephead, when's the best time of year they are active.
February and March
Great video man! Subscribed
Thanks very much I appreciate every single one of my followers.
What was your favorite part of the video?
Awesome video. Sub here. Were you using an electric motor to spot lock? If you didn't have a spot lock would you drift or anchor. I would think you would lose anchors. Is there a better tide that works? Thanks for the videos!
Definitely spot lock. Sheepshead arent picky with tides usually imo.
need to get myself out there one of these days
Do it soon!
I work as a seafarer, I've been many times in tampa, just let me into your boat and catch some fish, so 😉😉
You work on ships? What kind?
@@HeadFirstFishinga tanker vessel, right now still in Philippines, due to COVID19, whole country is LOCKDOWN.
maybe someday you can visit here in my province PANGLAO bohol which 1 of the most beautiful beach and tourist spot here in Philippines. 🇵🇭
My grandparents lived in Subic for a little while.
Yo great fishing bro
Tampa Bay!
I see you have those Madi Gras beads around your neck. Will be heading to New Orleans for Madi Gras.
Have fun brother.
Good job 👍 nice video
Thank you sir.
Do you let the bait float around away from the sinker or do you pull it up close to the weight when using a knocker rig? How do you detect the bite?
I try to control the descent and keep the weight from out running the bait causing a tangle.
The bite is easy to feel.
Just a thought, would it be possible to catch sheepshead on a shrimp fly? (asking from the UK)
Yes it would. The are in the back country flats right now.
Hey man what is the name of the last bridge you where? Thanks good vídeos!
Its a semi secret :)
Tierra Verde
Nice... mind sharing your tackle setup ..lines ,rod etc
Ohero 7ft 6in med fast rod, Osprey 4000 reel with 20lb braid. Started with half ounce to quarter ounce egg weight and 1/0 circle hook and 30lb leader line. Switched to 3 pinch weights. Would have had twice as many sheepshead if it weren't for the dolphins.
@@HeadFirstFishing thanks for info! Yeah I saw that...I had some dolphins where I was fishing too. But I didnt know they ate the sheeps. Thought the sharp fins were a deterrent..which circle hook u like..? Do u drop off many fish? I tried them but seemed I was catching less with them
Wish i could afford to go out on a boat everytime i wanted to fish. Hard to find a non heavy pushed shore front to fish from lately.
You'll get there.
Make friends with someone that has a boat. It’s better than owning one
Hahaha yep
What do you prefer eating sheepies or snappers
They'll eat side by side by snapper are easier to clean.
How big a boat are you running. I have an 18ft I launch from macdill afb but by the time I get to skyway I feel like The water is to rough to have the wife and kids out in
22 ft
so much for "secret spot", surrounded by bunch of boaters
😄
I just went fishing here on Monday after you said it was a good spot in another video but I didn't catch any fish, this could have been due to the fact that I left all my bait at home and was fishing with fake baits.
Hahaha maybe so.
If your not on a boat your catching nothing
Seems your in my area maybe we meet up sometime and do some fishin
I have been searching the net and can't find where I can order and get them to ship any Sheepshead
To eat?
Also what bait? Sorry if I missed u say it.
Live shrimp. It's in text while I'm rigging up talking about the knocker rig.
Secret spot ? Lol
Super secret
The "pinch weights" are called split shot at the tackle shop.
This is true
Why not use a dropper rig if theres a lot of snags?
Honestly it's not something I've ever utilized much, but I see your point. The pinch weights work good in this situation.
What kind of boat are you on...
Century 2202 inshore
Nice, what bridge was that? I’m new to the west coast. Thanks
The one with all the dolphins.
@@HeadFirstFishing no sir, the bridge the Gag grouper was caught. Thanks for replying
Its a secret.
@@HeadFirstFishing I get it now it's a challenge
It’s the skyway
Hey captain joe i wish my boat motor wasnt a piece of shit lol!
Hahaha what do you have?
Should’ve just cut the entire scene out of the dad falling, lol
Lol I thought it added a little humor.
I think your knocker rig. That's what you have hanging around your neck.
That would be correct, a knocker for knockers.
@@HeadFirstFishing your last couple videos I've enjoyed watching them!
Damn dolphin.....too many......can't stand 'em. They are everywhere in the bay and they eat everything.
They are clever suckers! Annoying as Hell.
They’re incredibly smart and sometime they make spots like this unfishable. I’ve fished this spot before and you literally can’t get a fish to the boat except the trash ones.
@@alejandro3485 try fishing at night. May have to chum but beats the dolphins constantly robbing your fish
jesus is coming soon you need the holy spirit to enter into heaven 🙏.
Heard that already....
If that was an alligator taking people's fish off the lines it would be called a nuisance gator and would be destroyed. Something needs to be done to stop those dolphins!!
Yeah I think we should be able to do something. Can't hurt em, but maybe scare them.
what do you think we should do kill dolphins ?....its called move to where they aint fished Tampa bay all my lif e its part of fishing remember they live there your the visitor show some god damn respect
@@brentmckinney1325 Same could be said in for the alligator taking fish from the line, show some respect and move. I was just pointing out an inequality.
