Yes please! Just bought our first house and have absolutely wiped the budget. Looking to get a (somewhat) decent set of tools built up to try and learn a few skills. Just to get by until we can afford to get the professionals in!
Love the videos, really been useful so far so please keep them coming.

Yes Please, if its not too late. Im an office worker looking to make the jump into the plastering trade. I have done a few bits of plastering but i dont have the best kit. I would love the mixer and flexi bucket in order to do better plastering jobs. Loving the channel mate, keep the vids rolling :-)

It's not the tool, it's the user. I'm only a DIYer who decided to learn plastering but my dad was a master decorator for decades and he always use to say the same: a rubbish tradesman with expensive tools is still a rubbish tradesman. A good tradesman can do a good job with anything.
    You proved the point 😃

Yes please. My nan is 89 and lives by herself in quite a dated house. As a DIY'er i would love to use these tools to decorate her house as a 90th birthday present which is in 3 weeks time.. Ps. You did an amazing job, the quality is not in the toold but the person using the tools.

Great video. I'm having problems keeping the reveals square and equal thickness of skim. Its lovely and flat but the skim is 3mm thick along the bead but near the window frame its only 1-2mm. Must be putting too much pressure on the trowel near the frame when going up and down, but I find it hard to work out the angle of the trowel to keep it square with the wall, if that makes sense.

    • @AshThePlasterer

I think I know what you mean mate. A couple of mm shouldn’t really show too much tho so I’d just concentrate on making by the line down the window frame nice n straight and sharp 👌🏼

There's a lot of snobbery over cheap tools in the trade as spreads nowadays seem to be on a 'Race-To-The-Top' of the AMOUNT of tools they buy and the Expense of the tools they buy - NEVER has there been such an ENORMOUS amount of Unnecessary Expense££££'s spent on unnecessary tools as these days ..... We had a tool-bag not a lot bigger than a brief case for 'ALL' of our hand-tools back in the day ... And believe Me - The standard was HIGH! .... Whenever I started a new Labourer/Improver/Future Plasterer, I would kit them out with a basic tool set similar to the one you've bought - No Drill of course - Never any electric (or toilets) on sites back then ..... I would break the cheapie trowel in for a few weeks for them and they were ready to go ..... No stainless steel either (Thank Goodness) .... A steel float/trowel rusts into a really sharp blade in quick time - Just what you need for a brilliant finish - Stainless Steel never gives the same finish, even though most spreads love them, they don't compete! ..... Whoever gets your little set can still leave a decent job to rival 'anyone' - If they have the talent 🤠

    • @AshThePlasterer
      @AshThePlasterer  3 месяца назад +1

Indeed mate! To be honest I’ve tried all the trowels out there, but these days I’ve just stuck with my old faithful marshaltown 14 inch for everything. I went through a phase of using the flex trowels but they ride bumps too easily and can leave a wavy finish. I was really surprised how this came out! It didn’t look a masterpiece once it was dry but after getting that 1 mist coast of paint over it, you’d never know the difference. Granted, it wasn’t as easy but it was still doable!!
Thanks for the watch and comment mate

Nice video mate, enjoyed it :) I'm learning plastering, using a similar trowel to this cheap one, it makes some lines, wondering what I can use to pre sharpen the edges other than rubbing brickwork for hours. My hawk is the plastic one.

Bad tradesmen always blame their tools. Im a plasterer, have had all different trowels over the years, but one of the nicest finishes i get is with a cheap faithful trowel from bnm. The trowel doesnt make a mess btw, you did.

Hi m8 just plastered my bedroom wall. It was bonded I used sbr on it coated it twice
I thought it helped wen applying multi finish
But it was drying out straight away
Might put the video up. Lol. It kicked my arse
Had to do half the wall. Then the other half the next day and blend it in

Hi mate! To be honest any backing coat that’s been left for a while is a pain to skim on! Next time try neat SBR the night before, then a 4-1 just before skimming, should help a bit. It’s all about practice really, hope it looked all good in the end! And thanks for watching

Cheap trowel wear it in on bit of sand & cement work... or just rub it down on the concrete floor...after a bit of patience you will get there.
A new blade on a marshmalltown is a pig until it broken in.
Rust on the blade will hold the finish lovely. Just clean it before ya skimming (finishing)
The Drill, brush, buckets in video yes are cheap as chips but great for an apprentice or DIY. brushes used on rough coat & stick don't last anuway
The biggest issue with plasterers and the trade in general it's become a pissing contest
Been on the trowel for a very long time... We need more exposure to show the level of skills required.
Not I can earn 5k a week or crack 150m float & set a day solo
Their are very few channels worthy of a subscription..this fella is one of them 👍

That’s really hard to answer mate, all depends on the size of the set you have on, heat, humidity and background all dependant. The bag of multi finish gives a rough guide of the back but it’s a very varied answer I’m afraid, sorry can’t be much help
