I honestly am not able to comprehend how someone can just leave an animal behind. I also adopted a senior cat, he looked very much like this cat, and he was 14 at the time. He lived a great life until the age of 21 and I miss him every day.
You never know what the reason was, and it's often not heartless. Many seniors die and leave pets behind. It's sad, but that's just reality. And it will be even more frequent as the baby boomers and gen x all age together...
My brother adopted a 13-year-old cat from a shelter. She was so violent with other animals that they were on the verge of ejecting her from the shelter. If she could see other cats, she would hiss and act aggressively. As soon as she got to my brother's house, she relaxed and she is the most angelic cat I've ever known. When I visit, she crawls up on my chest and buries her face under my chin. When I see this cat and hear about how the cat didn't get along with other cats, it makes me remember that cats really love human beings more than other cats sometimes.
I had a male cat, Beauregard. He looked so much like MK and sounded like her, too. He was so loving, and so purr purr. It's so nice to see her in a loving home. She waited a long time for that. Bless you all. ❤

With seniors you know right from the start that the time together is limited and adjust accordingly. The bond is different too. With puppies you often associate them with your own children, you see them as toddlers, how they grow up, become adults. You dont have that with seniors. They are emotionally more seen as companions and while it still hurts, when they pass, its not the same as when a pet dies you have known for its whole life.

Beautiful story. I adopted a shelter cat almost 6 years ago. She was 10. They said she was quiet. When she stepped into my apartment and out of her box, she proved to be anything but quiet. She's a chatty and fiesty kitty. We've grown into a mutual understanding of each other. 😊😂
Because you have loved her like family. Many of these owners and not true family to their cats say this. Even in my home with my "wife's" cat Belle. Because my wife spends little to no time with her. Belle loves me to death and will stay with me in our home office all day. She talks to me all day long except when she's asleep ;D. We play lazer tag, belly rubs and biscuits, and meows and chirps when she is guarding the window watching outside.
$25 is a good amount for this purpose. It's psychologically based too: it's enough to weed out the people who have nice intentions but may be acting on a whim that fades quickly, but it won't deter someone more sure what they are doing. I got one of my cats, a small sickly little black kitty, for a price a bout equal at the time, with the provision that if I brought proof of spaying her I would get it back. I did have her spayed, and called them to say keep the money. They said most people do that.

All cats have their own personality. My cat was adopted when he was app. 16 weeks. He had been in 2 families, and the last one couldn’t afford to get him neutered. They were happy that we could take him. He is a bit of a weirdo, but extremely friendly. He don’t like to be on the lap, but he sleeps ad the foot-side of our bed every night. He is such a good boi. If Im ill, he follows me everywhere without being all over me. He is a smart cat, and soon 1 y old 😻
One day, don't know when, don't know how, I will bring home a new kitty. A local feline rescue will be the place I try first, and I'm very partial to seniors who happen to be black. Revvie, Tiger Lily, and Ella have all taught me well that black kitties have tons of love to give. One day....

OMG the first line is “I found my soul cat” totally hit home. My cat’s name is destiny, I knew she was my cat the moment I saw her. A man was walking into the shelter with her because she was born to a stray and the mom had been killed and he had found homes for all but two, when I seen him walking in I ask him where he was going with my cat. She is now 20 years old and has been with me since she was 3 weeks old. And when I hear her purr it literally calms my heart.
Mine showed up one day living under my shed. She came up to me the first time I talked to her. Now she runs when she hears my voice. Finally brought her in the house last night. She doesn't trust anyone but me. She slept next to me all night. :D
