I'm a bona fide child of the 1970s, so I've never had a problem liking the insane pop culture from that decade. The 1970s featured mockery of "good taste" and seriousness in the form of crazy alienation and guiltless extravagance. I have lots of fun watching things like this crazy "disco" segment on the Brady Bunch's variety show. 1970's pop wasn't made for the weak or the self-conscious, but for those who had (and still have) a very active sense of humor and a guilt-free love for camp.
Everyone looks back with rose colored glasses, but the crazy volume of commercials makes me wonder how we accepted it. That’s not even mentioning how awful variety shows were , in general. Although there are certainly modern equivalents.
I was around then as a teenager, and we always thought the 70s were a bit of a musical black hole, but honestly, it was better than everything since or maybe even before. Not this, but... there was damn good music back then.
