The ironly. Robert Reed would storm off the set of the Brady Bunch because he thought the show was so dumb. But he liked doing these shows. Now that is funny
I actually Googled it. He wanted to sing and dance. He said he was trained for it. Maybe not too well but he was trained. He was originally a dramatic actor and only did the BB because he didn't think it would last.
My older sister would watch these shows, dress her son and daughter like this and have their pictures taken professionally. I think she felt they were the next Donnie and Marie.

I loved Maureen/Marcia's long bob she wore after the original show and going into the 90's specials. Her iconic longer hair that she brushed 100 times never worked and looked like a bad wig.
You can blame the Donny & Marie Show for this and the curiosity of the American viewers who wanted to see what the Brady Kids looked like a few years after the cancellation of the Brady Bunch. One of the highest rated shows of the entire Donnie & Marie Osmond series in 1976 was when a few of the Brady kids guest starred. America tuned in to see how they looked and of course the suits at ABC thought that meant America wanted to see another Brady Bunch Show. Only they got it all wrong and came up with this musical version, that only the most ardent Brady fan could defend as good.
America always embraces another look at the Bradys, but they've never had a comeback vehicle as engaging as the original series -- until they rebuilt they rebuilt the house interior on HGTV. Barry and Chris have a podcast talking about the show that is also a blast. The Variety Hour, though -- a one-hour special probably would have done okay. A whole season of this was never going to make it.
@@landreauloverThey did have the right vehicle to catch us up on the Brady kids and what they looked like was the 1981 Brady Brides. That should have been a one off show, where we get to see Marcia getting married and ended it for good there. But of course they ruined it by having Jan marry in that show as well and having Marcia marry a goof ball like Wally? Highly improbable.
Was so happy when I heard the Bradys were coming back -- and then I watched a few minutes of the Variety Hour and never watched it again. Maybe if it had a couple of songs built around the old setup -- including the classic set (which was most likely gone), it could have lasted longer. But really, another season of the classic show -- with only a couple of musical episodes would have been my preference. Still, it's a nice bit of nostalgia as long as you don't take it too seriously.
At first I thought the Brady Kids doing "Live and Let Die" blew my head off, but Rip Taylor magically appearing with Rich Little and singing "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" really did the trick.

This is better than anything that’s been on tv before or since!
Id still rather watch this than any of the Kardashians or Jenners.

I would pick this over Family Guy (even the 2005 resurrection).

No offense but gay people like this type of show biz, of which Reed was.
I’m curious, if he was in need of cash and appreciates a certain type of acting, why didn’t he focus on that? Age? A project simply handed to him?
