The Carpenters are legends indeed. So much talent in just two people. It's remarkable and we'll probably never see that kind of thing again in our lifetime. But Andy Williams was no slouch. That man could belt out a tune as well as any diva on earth. Truly spectacular. I miss those days so very much.
I was in the studio when she sang this song....I was a page at NBC....I still remember walking into the studio and see her behind the drumset. Even in 2024, Karen Carpenter may be the best voice I've ever heard.
Andy Williams, Karen, and Richard Carpenter together were pitch perfect. Variety shows in this era must have had an exhaustive amount of preparation for each show. An amazing era in television that featured amazing talent and live audiences.
Andy Williams was part of my childhood at Christmas time, his smooth voice singing O Holy Night is my favorite. It wasn't until I was an adult that I came to appreciate the extradentary quality and sound of Karen's voice, never tire of her voice or their music. Rest in Peace Andy and Karen
Shows Like this constantly Bringing Happiness when people turned their shows on was Magical and Andy did this with his Christmas shows and Having his Speacial guests on Like the Talented Carpenters!
Billy. Thanks for posting this video. I love the Carpenters. They were fantastic. Really miss Karen. She left us far too soon. Beautiful to look at and a gorgeous voice. She could sing the phone book and it would be beautiful. RIP Karen. Sweet dreams our angel. Love you and always will.
The fabulous 'The Carpenters' indeed! And never forget to mention also- the legend, the fabulous 'Andy Williams'. How I miss those good old time. Thank you v much for posting. I'm appreciated. Have a nice day🙂everyone.
Maybe the best female Alto singer of all time. There were greater Sopranos. The amazing thing is that she could jam on the drums as good as she could sing.
I watch this often. So funny! I remember when this first aired. So many funny things going on at the same time! They don't write like this anymore.Karen is hysterical! How did she keep a straight face? True professional! As much as I love Karen's voice I really loved her comedic timing.Really miss her! Thanks so much for posting this!
Same here , how did we come to here ? Tyrannical country now as is most western countries , no imagination or creativity like this only a society that constantly tries to police your speech mind and freedoms
Fantastic live performances of Karen!!!! She is singing, I believe, with the vocal track (of her recording) on Ticket to Ride. I can hear the double track sound just a bit. Sounds just wonderful! Thanks for this.
Love this! Such awesome talent and a great vintage post. These variety shows are such a part of my childhood memories...Quality television that you do not get today...
an angel's voice. certainly the most enchanting female voice among all singers to this day. Best vibrato for sure. Watch how much fun she has - doing what she likes, mostly playing the drums and singing, always smiling, amazing. On the other hand, the most striking male voice is Freddy Mercury.
The only male voice I can think of that reaches deep into my soul with the penetrating personal intimacy Karen has and the perfect phrasing and perfect notes is Nat King Cole.
Andy Williams and Karen Carpenter two great vocalist and Richard style of music arrangements what can I say. I’ve read where they study his arrangements at Universities ,
I was into the who , the rolling stones, led Zeppelin black Sabbath Beatles and one hundred legendary bands . the carpenter's were elevator music but everyone new the words. She still sounds angelical,. When she died was the first time I had ever heard of Anorichea her Brother To bring awareness of that terrible disorder that took her life told the world inorder that no other innocent children of God would suffering of it would perish from it!
Imagine being a 21 year old talented singer/drummer being asked to be on the great Andy Williams TV show and when his show started you were only 12 years old. Karen looked sooo healthy here. The Carpenters cover of the Beatles Ticket to Ride in early 1970 only made it to #54 on the billboard Hot 100. But it got them enough deserved attention that their next single, Close to You went straight to #1 and the rest is history. Unfortunately that history tragically ended on Feb 4th, 1983. Sometimes I wonder why God allows stupid things like that to happen and lets villains', crooks, and murders live a long life, or morons run for president a 2nd time.

Take a listen to Tori Hulob! We're Carpenter lovers and she's AMAZING!
Better than any of the crap these days 😢 I'm 60yr old
Andy Williams, Karen, and Richard Carpenter together were pitch perfect. Variety shows in this era must have had an exhaustive amount of preparation for each show. An amazing era in television that featured amazing talent and live audiences.
Are they miming here (cos it's TV)? I don't see any microphones.
@ probably boom mics above them. They also surprisingly had wireless mics at that time.
Thanks so much I loved "The Andy Williams show. Karen Carpenter was so beautiful and all so talented. Thanks.
Living through those years, I didn’t realize how great they were in many ways. I really appreciate them now.
Amazing how all this Carpenter stuff is popping up. Thanks.
Not really amazing, REAL talent knows no boundaries of time
They had more no. 1 hits than Elvis or the Beatles. Their footprint in the music business is solid and will always stand the test of time.
The warmth and pitch perfection in her voice is unmatched ❤️🩹💝❤️🩹
Shows Like this constantly Bringing Happiness when people turned their shows on was Magical and Andy did this with his Christmas shows and Having his Speacial guests on Like the Talented Carpenters!
This is quite awesome with the fusion of both the Carpenters and Andy Williams.
I miss Andy and Karen so much. I used to watch them all the time.
This is what entertainment is supposed to evoke!
Hard to get two more talented singers in the same place. Wonderful!
I agree her voice was beautiful
The best of the best, no one else even comes close.
Totally agree!
2 of the most loved and respected voices in the history of the record business.
I watch this nearly daily! Two timeless great voices!❤
The fabulous 'The Carpenters' indeed!
And never forget to mention also- the legend, the fabulous 'Andy Williams'.
How I miss those good old time.
Thank you v much for posting. I'm appreciated.
Have a nice day🙂everyone.
Andy and the carpenters were in perfect harmony 🎶💙
Thank you for this lovely video. I miss them so much.
To Richard I say. "One day you will sing again with your beloved sister Karen, but remember she has been singing with God's Angels. I miss her.
So much talent, R.I.P. Andy and Karen❤.
Lovely Andy Williams and the Carpenters🎉
Karen the most beautiful voice in history
She was pretty also.
I agree absolutely
Thanks for sharing this incredible show
My favorite female vocalist
I agree
This was over 3 ½ years before I was born in October 1974
Remarkably Unique Voice God gave Karen to share Worldwide. 1971 - Where were you then? Memories of my childhood.
I was a junior in high school in February 71. I missed watching this episode of Andy Williams, - so, we're all glad the person put this on here.
I've heard Karen sing a million times like every one of her fans have, and I'm blown away EVERY time!
The Singers Today 2024 never think of singing Slow Love Songs Like this, Or Duets!
Shorten that up to The Singers Today 2024 never think.
@@thomastimlin1724 How I speak is none of your Business !!
She had such a beautiful voice. They were both very talented. We need more music like that even more theses days.
Fantastic post I love the Carpenters
Goodnight! They sound great together! The Carpenters and Andy Williams!
Karen, the greatest female singer all time, going up against the veteran legend Andy Williams. I probably watched this then.
@MOONL⚡️GHT LOVE 💓 I’ll stick with Karen
Maybe the best female Alto singer of all time. There were greater Sopranos.
The amazing thing is that she could jam on the drums as good as she could sing.

No comparison. Even with Vietnam.
Great performance.❤❤❤❤
I saw the Carpenters in the 1970s Kalamazoo, they were very good, sure missing hearing Karen live, she was quite the musician/ drummer .
Karen singing while keeping rhythm on the hat. Amazing!
Fantastic live performances of Karen!!!!
She is singing, I believe, with the vocal track (of her recording) on Ticket to Ride. I can hear the double track sound just a bit. Sounds just wonderful! Thanks for this.
OH KAREN.....YOU WERE AN ANGEL ON EARTH...!!!!
Love this! Such awesome talent and a great vintage post. These variety shows are such a part of my childhood memories...Quality television that you do not get today...
Superb show. Fantastic and unparalleled!
Three of my favorite singers.

Awesome talent. 🎶 Awesome times 👍
Fabulous all together

Mercury is overrated
The only male voice I can think of that reaches deep into my soul with the penetrating personal intimacy Karen has and the perfect phrasing and perfect notes is Nat King Cole.
I've never heard of thought of Karen and Freddie at the same time. But it's a good comparison. But incomparable among their peers.
Two of the best ever
Those were the days, this is awesome!
For all we know
Oscar winner. Wonderful
Two great and my favorite singers.
What a loss! I love you KAREN❗
I always was so mesmerized watching her playn that large silver sparkle Ludwig drumset,,never saw one like that
Andy Williams and Karen Carpenter two great vocalist and Richard style of music arrangements what can I say. I’ve read where they study his arrangements at Universities ,
I don’t even like most of their material, but I adore her voice. When the harmony parts start and she isn’t singing I feel lonely.
Beautiful.
Karen could be singing the phone book and it would still be beautiful.
😂😂😂 ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ We had it made and didn't know it...
Wow the comedy level of the Jonathan Winters skit is off the charts even or today, so tight!

Wow. Where'd all that perfection come from?!

The Best Show of Shows
Saudades daquele tempo
Karen Carpenter, to me, is the epitome for the voice of an angel. So beautiful, smooth, deep and soft. Taken from us way too soon.
Carpenters come up and sing THERE ORIGINAL pieces. !!!! yes
So cute🎀🎀🎀
❤The Carpenters were awesome, I like Paul and Karen wear Orange and White that's very fashionable to me.
I'm always stunned when I hear Karen's perfect voice -- RIchard was such a brilliant arranger
So cute❤️💖

Burnt orange is the color of the Carpenters’ rise to fame.
