Karen died February 1983 at age 32.
Ella died June 1996 at age 79.

@@splehcar What a strange show. The Carpenters had just two guest singers: Ella - one of the most talented jazz vocalists of all time - and John Davidson - a hack who could merely carry a tune. There were so many other better male vocalists they could've gone with. Wonder why they went with Davidson. 🤔

Oh, that's just your prejudice, which is fine and sweet that you love her so much. I would say that Julie Andrews and a singer you likely never heard of, Ofra Haza (listen to: Im Nin Alu and You've Got a Friend), have very clear voices... and many more. I think that Karen has a somewhat deep voice and that may have something to do with the appeal for you and why hear her voice as being so rich and clean... I'm not disagreeing with you on that at all, but there are other people with very clear voices. There were times when Whitney's voice rang like a well-crafted bell also. Donna Summer singing Someone Who Will Watch Over Me is very different from Karen's but it shows a different kind of magic that Karen didn't have.
Another great voice - Dulce Pontes singing Cancao do Mar.

Music is very subjective and there are many many comments on almost every songs that people say “This singer is the best singer I have ever seen”.
To my opinion, as long as you really enjoy the song, nothing else really matter.
