- As Chevy has flat-out stated; we’ve taken the front-engine Corvette as far as it could go. The much rumored and highly anticipated mid-engine Corvette is finally here further cementing its place as the attainable exotic.

I don’t know who started this narrative that this car was driven off of a dealer lot brand new. This is a press car that already had the proper break-in miles. C’mon!
@Burns me up. it’s not really a big deal because conditions were far from perfect but many people have left comments saying that other critics are getting the same exact time of 3.7 for the convertible. 🤷🏼♂️
@Burns me up. Carwow saw similar times with a hardtop.....
@@PMD220S Carwow review specifically was not broken in... You could tell because the redline was 4500rpm
@@stevehammes That's plenty fast enough for me. Nice to have a fast car, but if I ever own one, I don't intend to track or drag race it. ; )
@Burns me up. Amazes me that people think 3.7 isn't fast lmao. Its a real world, not perfect conditions launch. its fine dude
Cant wait for mine!
I think I'm about to have a cargasm...
Amazing, indeed.
Chevy knocked it out 2 parks with the new Vette
Price and quality wise better then Euro and Japanese
Yes sir, accelerate yellow 💪
What’s world changing about the car is price. Other than that the stats relatively found in exotics. What’s new is accessibility. Design nothing knew just ripped from a 458. Nothing mind blowing like the aventador till present still turns heads.
Steve, I am sure there is another digit missing in your subscriber count. Clear and concise review of this beast, with a really refreshing method of delivery of your reviews as always, with gorgeous shots of the scenery and the Vette. Regarding the C8; there are surely many lines in the design and can at times be much when looking at pictures, but it truly makes an exotic statement about this super car when you see it in real life.
THANK YOU!!!
I traded my C7 for the 2020 Z51 LT3, mag ride, front end lift, carbon fibre trim convertible. The difference is unbelievable. Less cabin noise and smoother ride and gobs of power on tap. Still not broken in yet so cant sample beast mode yet. LOL.
Fantastic you lucky guy. With a statement like " gobs of power on tap".. you sound British, like myself but maybe not just a British slang your using. Have a great time with your awesome car.
@@studio-flash Nope. Canadian bred. LOL. But I do have a Scottish background. :-)
Congrats! We have ours on order and I just can't wait! Having driven a c7 Z06 and then being in a C8 the difference is HUGE!
@@ashleyalvarez6749 could be a long wait for the Z06. Waiting a year for my C 8 was long enough for me.
@@kerrylittle3900 We have a C8 on order and a allocation at 2 dealerships for a Z06.
2:10 this isn't exactly the optimal surface to be testing acceleration times 🤣
Ya think?
@@stevehammes haha that down the line shot was hilarious. Looked like you were driving it right into a grass field.
@@stevehammes in general, if cows can eat on the surface it is not ideal
Great video Mr. Hammes!!! This is an out of the park, game-winning, grand slam for Chevrolet. Nothing was compromised in the execution of this project, and it shows.
Well said!
At the price Americans can obtain the C8 HTC for, it's the ultimate GT convertible. Steve Hammes, about the 0-60 performance had this car passed the 500 mile reduced torque mode?
Yes. All press cars usually have about 1,000 break-in miles.
@@stevehammes Thank you for this lightning quick reply. So 0-60 performance is far off the advertised even with launch control. Ouch.
As a guy whose mom raced Corvettes in the National Corvette Club and placed every time while even racing pregnant with me, I’ve always been enamored with them since I was a toddler 40 years ago - the evolution of Zora’s long-awaited epiphany coming to fruition is nothing short of amazing. I live a state over from the plant and every single time I see one, I nearly wreck rubbernecking. I’m just so truly *proud* of Chevy for it. 🔥 I’m currently shopping the Trackhawk and Hellcat variants but the Vette now has my attention.
Spot on!!!! Great backstory. Love it.
@@stevehammes Thanks for the great review as always!
My Grandpa loves his..talk of the assisted living facility!!
The hard top drop top 🤘🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾🔥🔥🔥
This is a very good review. I have had my 2020 coupe since April and I had much the same reaction the first time I drove it, the car is so refined that it doesn't feel like a Corvette at all.
Well said. Especially if you’ve had experience in previous Corvettes this one is going to be a real surprise.
Go to Speed Phenom's RUclips channel he found a way to set the Launch control Dude was able to get 2.9 seconds on Launch Control.
@@Metam-nl8hv
2.9 seconds at 3920 pounds w/driver calculates to 816 HP. I think GM gave up on the "640HP" Motor Trend lie.
@@FFE-js2zp I think you forgot it's a midengine car, traction is much better....
@@Forever.Remain.Nameless
No it’s not. AWD has been the dominant feature to gain traction since around 2008. Using a rear engine (not mid, because mid implies near 50/50 balance, like the perfect front mid engine C7) like the horribly track-impaired C8’s 63R/37F “undrivable” (Ron Fellows’ word) understeering nightmare, trades handling for slightly better traction that remains radically outclassed by every AWD car.
There is one serious design flaw in the corvette. The two radiators in front that are low to the ground have no protection in front of them from rocks and debris kicking up into them.
I love my 2020 Corvette stingray spider with 3LT Z-51 package and I had fun reviewing it on my RUclips channel 😃
I picked up my HTC on Monday, loved the manual settings but agreed with your comments on the “docile” nature, until I played with the settings and found 2 that make it super involved in the auto settings. It made a big difference in the fun while in auto. My wife who is usually very critical of passenger interior space loves her cocoon and has only praised the passenger side space. As for your comments on the ride, I opted for the non-z51 as it will not be tracked ( I have a race car) and everything you said on how well I’d rides is also true with the base suspension. This is my first American car, I am a convert from Porsche and BMW, and really impressed with this “base” C8.
GM just announced that 2/3ds of the buyers have never own a Chevy before and that it is most often cross shopped it with the 911. (I got my C8 convertible on Thanksgiving and I agree with you about the ride quality without mag ride).
This is my favorite configuration of the C8.
Agreed
I like the rapid blue ....I love my 2020 Corvette stingray spider with 3LT Z-51 package 🔥 content coming to our channel with this car build
I hate that you can't see the engine at all :;(
I just changed my order to covertible. You just cost me $7k. Thanks.
Ha!!! You’ll thank me later this summer.
Sweet ride 👍 thanks for the vid
You bet
Love your videos Steve. Love that "Red, White and Elkhart Lake Blue" line.
Not a huge fan of the corvette but they did manage to do a convertible hard top in a sub 100k car and companies like Lamborghini can't do it in a 300k car...
Also I wouldn't say the cockpit layout is unique. Try driving an Audi R8. They don't even have a central screen.
I just got a ride in that one, Honestly changed the way I look at it. For 83,000, its worth it if you have the money then spending on something more expensive. Nice videos to!
Very nice!
@@stevehammes , let me know when it gets a factory engine and transmission option that exceeds what is on the Chevrolet Callaway C4 Corvette Sledgehammer.
@@paxhumana2015 You're joking right? 1. The car isn't street legal, 2. You're looking at a Bugatti price range. But technology has come a long way maybe the Zora will do it.
Great review 👏
Convertible looks way better without a wing…
0-60 time is for sea level. From the mountains in the background and the irregular surface in the video I am not surprised at those times. Good overall review.
Yeah, that's what I was going to say my self.
Chevy also tones down the cars power for the first 500 miles on purpose to allow a smooth initial break-in phase.
Car is fricking beautiful!
Always top notch videos.... Thank you!
the back looks so bad you would think it's a Civic .... unbelievable
Nice Ferra......I mean Corvette.
Testing o-60 on a sub-par surface with grass growing through it no lees. Come on man.
Though far from ideal, grip really wasn’t an issue. And just because that is the only place you saw us test the acceleration doesn’t mean we didn’t also get those same numbers elsewhere.
Such a nice review. Well done! Thanks
Thanks for watching!
That overgrown grass track you test 0-60 hurt the overall time due to lost traction. Get a better track next time.
I just bought a multi-million dollar facility because my wallet is phat like that.
@@stevehammes you might want to pay extra for lawnmower
Enough with the golf club storage already.
Hi, Steve... I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I thoroughly enjoyed this review of that beautiful C8 HTC. So happy for you to have that beautiful day to film this.
Awesome, thank you!
Great review sir!
Glad you liked it!
All it needs is the USA 1 PLATE
Been waiting for a solid review of the convertible corvette C8. Thank you!!
Glad you liked it!
That's it. Where's my piggy bank? I want a C8! Who wants their grass cut?
Me!! ;-)
The new Vette has only one problem, it was designed for short people. (Under 5’8 and under 130 pounds). Mercedes learned along time ago that people of different heights and weights should be accommodated for. I’m 6’3 and 190 lbs and can comfortably fit in the smallest mercedes.
The driver's seat slides so far rearwards that this is a non-issue. Much more legroom than before.
What is the price of this car and is this available in india ?
Steve’s review is as smooth as this new Vette 💯
Love it, man!!
Great review. Looks assume on my 4ktv! It is gorgeous! All the complaints about the 6.2 instead of a high strung engine blows my mind. NA high torque pushrod V8 Wilhite always be my choice! Personality! Agreed on the yellow....with black accents
@ no I added to my comment. Didn't edit a thing. It was late night when I watched it after a couple drinks. Glad it gave you chance to point that Swype can be inaccurate after a couple drinks if you don't re-read. Huzzah to you.
That's awesome!! Always glad to hear when people watch on their 4K TVs as it was meant for when I shot it.
My dream car, with the best color and a hardtop drop top. The only thing that needs to be changed is those wheels but that’s nitpicking. Other than that, 😍😍😍😍
I personally think they are the best looking wheels yet.
I think that Eckhart blue could be the color to get. I just wish you could get that track package without that tacky out on spoiler. The car has such beautiful lines without it
Great review. Awesome car and I love that color.
Thanks!
Steve, excellent review. I agree with everything that you said except 2 things.
1) This color-Elkhart Lake blue is superior to accelerate Yellow because Blue is MY favorite color.
2) Mag ride is not needed! Liar! Liar! Magride is definitely needed ESPECIALLY for track junkies like myself who will take advantage of the 100x a second input reading suspension. My 16 ATSV Sedan has magnetic ride & its glorious
MRC dampers are the greatest! Don't get me wrong. And if you're going to track it a lot then get 'em. My only point was that the ride quality with this sport suspension is so good...
Get the mag-ride - it’s the best feature on my C7 Z51, even off the track being able to soften or stiffen it with a twist of a knob is brilliant.
48, your still a young pup😁
"You're"
Someone is on a grammar rampage ;-)
I'm still hoping they build a factory RHD C8! It will be cool to see them on Sydney streets :D
They are building a factory RHD
This is the FIRST Vette they will build RHD, so you're in luck!
Not a corvertte fan but this is impressive.
I just wish the car looked better than this; especially the interior.
Steering wheel looks to be inspired by the flat bottom of aircraft control wheels.
I want this car just to drive it around and upset the die hard Corvette guys and hear them say " That is not a real Corvette!"
I need!
Chevy shouldve done this over a decade ago. ide say better late than never BUT!!! at this point, ide think ide opt for a Ford Bronco and save the extra 20-30+ grand, and the additional 3 grand from the inevitable speeding tickets.
LMAO your getting a thumbs up just for that facial expression @2:44. LOL!
Ha!!! That's how you feel after doing that.
2:40 on the dash you see he is at around 119 miles. you need to break in the car to 500 miles to reach sub 3 seconds. Revs are restricted to 4.5k rpm or so until then
On top of that, he Wasn't in Competition Mode!
Look. It wasn't all grass. Hardly. That's a decommissioned runway with a few weeds. And we DID use comp mode even if you didn't see it in the video in each shot. And we got the same numbers every time. So calm down.
Yeah, we did. Didn't matter. 3.7 each time.
119mi is the fuel range
@Commenter2 that grass was more than enough to slow down this type of acceleration. Poor testing conditions.
That dirty dancing reference. Lol Best review yet, Steve. You deserve exclusives, should have been the first with this car.
Glad someone got it! Thanks very much!
It looks MUCH Better in person!
Looks so good in this Blue. The center fence switch console is not for me though. It seems limiting reach into the passenger side.
Finally! Someone PROPERLY said, "Head Up Display". Not 'heads up display'. HUD is not a term invented on the basketball court.
Please 7 series in white colour M sport
deign seems to be a bit disappointment .. awkward proportions .. probably black colour would cover that a bit ..
From one angle it could be a corvette or from ALL ANGLES IT COULD LOOK LIKE REPLICA LAMBORGHINI
I am believing the C7 is a bit faster than the C8
I watched a few videos of how water "runs" into the engine bay via air vents and openings that expel heat on the coupe. I couldn't believe the amount of water spots after it dried. Particularly inside the window cover and the window between the engine and cockpit.. Also, I talked to a coupe owner at Road Atlanta last week and asked him his biggest complaint. His response was, dirty engine bay after a road trip and water spots after a rain or wash. He said cleaning the engine bay or wiping it down after washing isn't fun. I switched my order to a convertible. By eliminating the carbon fiber appearance package and other options related to the engine bay, it almost offsets the extra cost of a vert and I'll always have the total cubic feet available in the rear trunk by not having to stow the removable roof.
We have been thinking about this as well. Good friend ours recieved his recently and that is his biggest complaint.
Sweet car!
I need that Accelerate Yellow.
@5:15 you look like Mike Davenport seating inside the C8 Corvette. Lol. But great review of a great car.
The very first problem is that it is not a Corvette. Look at it. Totally indistinguishable from any other Italian mid engine car. Lost its soul.
What color is that. I think something is wrong with your camera.
Yellow
This is the best video on the C-8 that I have seen to date and I have reviewed dozens. Great Job
John Price, President of Eastern Ontario Corvette and the Canadian Corvette Ambassador. And yes an owner of a Z51 C-8 received in March
Thanks, John! Appreciate that very much.
Wait til all that shit breaks
I'm starting to feel like the convertible is better looking than the coupe, especially with the top up! However, I will never understand who at Chevrolet decided that the wheels that came with the Stingray were worthy of the car. Hasn't anyone at Chevrolet see the wheels that the NSX came with from the factory? Another great review of a great car Steve!
Carlo...I agree with you. The convertible's look is even more on point.
Yea we all know the wheels suck BUT when that is the biggest issue you have none.
@@rueben44 I disagree. If I pay $80k plus I want wheels that are commensurate with the price. Not something I can get similar for $250 apiece at Discount Tire. Like I said...look at the NSX or the 911s.
It’s great when they get things right!!
Most convertibles look worse than their coupe counterpart, e.g. M3, 911. But this Corvette ‘vert looks great. Looks very “lambo” like.
Corvette is the best luxury sport car of the world.
That's a bunch of crap
A masterpiece by GM. Simply the best car they've ever created.
Best colors: Rapid Blue (or Miami Blue elsewhere) and Ceramic Grey Metallic
That they didn't raise the price $5k or more, which I would've, for 2021, is icing on the cake.
You can tell that they REALLY thought this through!
I do like the ceramic grey metallic. Not sure if GM is doing away with the color.
@@brownwhale5518 No it is available for 2021. They dropped the dark red (long beach red) and the grey brown color.
When I see comments like this, I have to wonder what age group are the people making those comments in. And the best colors?! Really?! That blue is unexciting for what a bright color should be. This is a stunning blue: www.kamikaze-usa.com/gallery/acura-nsx-blue/
This car is just not sexy. Great pricing and great looking interior (though the interior has already proven to not be as high-quality as suggested, based on some owners complaints). The front shark-look is not very attractive and the rear is just too busy, a mix of various styles, mixed with Camero styling and ultimately pretty ugly.
The reason I like the ceramic grey metallic (I’ve never seen a C8 so I’ve never seen a real life example of the color) is because it isn’t (based on what it looks like on my phone/pc) Black or Red or Blue or White or Gray or Silver or Orange or Green or Yellow or Pink or Brown
Were the 0-60 times he clocked were probably taken within the 500 mile break-in period? If so, that limited performance.
Great review, this guy is as polished as that car!
Thanks, Eric! But all the press cars come with 1k miles of break-in miles before they end up in our hands.
I wish all these videos doing 0-60 would preface by making it known that the engine torque is limited 20% until the engine is broken in at 500 mi
Please read my 100 other comments on this.
Two sets of golf clubs? Does anyone that buys one of these actually play golf?

@@stevehammes I’m an old white guy. Had several vettes. Never touched a golf club
That wing gotta go though...
Your voice has me feeling like I just flipped on my local news channel.
Guess where my show started? Check my bio.
Time will tell how efficient and durable those 6 motors are on the convertible top, hopefully very good.
If it is not electric it is bullshit...
Make it self charging electric.
No plugin needed.
Otherwise this a beautiful pollution machine!
With respect to your hand sanitizer getting hot in the rear trunk: Tadge Juechter, Corvette Chief Engineer, explained to me that the rear trunk was for the pizza and the front one for the beer.
That's an awesome answer! And so true.
I'm sure that visceral feel will be available in the Z spec models
For sure.
@@stevehammes I have that feeling at its best. 03 C5 ZO6. Man when you Hammer that gas pedal there's nothing like it
For me, being able to look at that engine through the window is one of the awesome cool parts of the car. I just really like it. Having initially ordered a convertible that I never received and wanting a coupe rather than the convertible and its extra weight, motors and complexity, etc. all added up to my desire for a C8 Coupe. I live in So.Cal., so I don't have to worry much about rain at all and certainly not sudden showers. With the good weather, I can take the roof off, if I really want to. There is no way that this car is, "too good.? And don't worry about the passenger. If the driver is not careful, the passenger can open the glove box and pull out the chip and the driver will lose his camera and thus not be able to see where he or she's driven. That new red tintcoat means that you must now buy a C8 for your wife or girl friend. Less time for driving and more time for working O.T. Don't worry about being, "age 48, Steve. Mine now has Lambo doors and I can get in and out without any particular problem at all. Extra 3 grand is well-worth it, if you have it in the coin purse. AF
I never understood convertible Corvettes. The regular one comes with a removable top.
Power, baby! ;-)
But I don't want to get out to remove it, that's why I ordered the hard top convertible-hit that button no matter how many times you want to change your mind, top up-top down? Always ready to take on the look or feel that you want.So cool, easy choice, worth every penny, can't wait!
The convertible allows you to pack 3 carry on suitcases for trips with the top down. The top on the coupe eats the trunk space so you can’t fit any luggage in there. Also there is less wind noise and buffering in the convertible than the coupe with the top off for some reason. Also the convertible comes with a rear window that rolls down so you can hear the engine better. Lastly a lot of couple owners complain about how the engine gets water spots every time it rains or you wash the car which is not a problem in convertible. Lastly you can put the top down while driving or with the key fob which looks cool. If you get in a sudden rain storm the top goes up with the flick of a button. It’s also more unique. Both coupe and convertible are beautiful but I think the convertible with the all black tip looks more exotic.
Tesla will smoke this dinosaur.
I was looking for this idiot comment.
Could there be a worse surface for launching a car?
It snows here too, so yes I can.
Except engine valve springs made within a certain day range;)
So that 2.9 0-60 has been a lie lol ppl have been consistently getting 3.7 0-60 still good though.
Ugly rear end comes in at no extra charge.
Ugly to you cuz that’s all your gonna get to stare at lmao
What do you guys prefer, the C8 or the Lexus lc 500
An incredible review of what seems like an absolute revelation of a car. Haven’t driven a Vette since my dad’s ‘96. Glad Chevy has done this so right!!
I think This is perfect for me.🤠
Still needs to be dropped another 2 inches + a bigger bark. But not too shabby for Gen 1.
I might consider Gen 3.
I just wish they would trim the back end down. It's so wide it looks like a big rectangle. If you look at the rear end at 06:47 it's just too big.
Agreed. To clean up the rear it looks best with no spoiler.
