Living in Holland, it's amazing that in the US you can buy this car, with this level of performance, power, mid-engined V8, for a base price of 60.000 dollar. That is the bargain of the century. Over here, with CO2-emissions based tax, the C8 will be way over 100.000 EUROs. What amazes me most however, is that GM can build a car with this level of engineering and on the other hand build aweful, plastic, average driving, cheap quality family SUVs and hatchbacks. GM should put the people who developed the C8 in charge of their entire car division. Great review again Tom. Please keep doing what you're doing.
It is interesting that GM recently moved a lot of the Corvette engineers to the division that will be doing electric and autonomous vehicles. My feeling is that they want the Corvette enthusiasm to be transferred to these other cars.
I worked for gm in the late 90s. Sometimes that company felt like the head never knew what the arms or legs were doing (resulting in some craptastic cars). But they've always had the engineering and resources to build good stuff when able to get out of their own way.

Here's my recommendation to resolve all of GM's woes. Gather each and every engineer, designer, manager, and accountant currently employed by Chevrolet. Hand pink slips to each one who is NOT associated with the Corvette. Turn over the entire Chevrolet division to the Corvette folks. Not because every vehicle has to be a Corvette but because any group of people who can design and build a vehicle that meets its mission so well at a price point that is almost unbelievable should be running Chevrolet or perhaps all of GM. Pretty sure the Corvette doesn’t make GM any money. If they did what you said, GM would be bankrupt (again) and there would be no Corvettes. So think twice.
With the possible exception of Tadge Jeuchter, everyone on the Corvette team is involved other GM products and projects, I suspect...so good luck with that... And that's only the 1st of the problems with that idea.

The Corvette has always been the diamond in the rough at GM. It is their baby. The sole automobile that demands the best of the maker. So don't expect ANY other vehicle in their lineup to possess the same quality and refinement.
Tom, your videos are GORGEOUS. I just wish you would take the time to place your mid-roll ads (totally fine) at logical breaks in the content, rather than the "auto" setting you currently use. I have dreamed of and planned on owning a 718 GTS 4.0 6-speed since the day it was announced. It's the most desirable representation of the 718 platform, in my opinion. That said, I too could easily see myself owning a loaded C8 Z51 instead...and for at least $20k less. This car deserves serious consideration by anyone shopping for an exotic, although they might prefer to wait for the more extreme C8 variants to drop. This naturally aspirated base engine is preferable to me.
My brother in law is a supervisor at one of the GM plant in Indiana, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get one for $60,000. Even the supervisors couldn't get them. You have a better chance of winning the lotto than getting a 2020-21 Corvette C8 for $60,000.
Good luck finding one. You have to order one , that process is looong. You can wait for your car 12-14 months from this time forward. $60 K is possible if you can get one of the dealerships allocations. Best of luck and I hope you won’t get discouraged before you see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’m new to you channel and you have excellent content and visuals.
It is not understandable to me why a completely renovated, highly automated manufacturing plant cannot meet volume demand and still deliver today's high quality. My guesses are two. The emphasis of the Corvette plant is on quality rather than volume. With so many options, logistics and manufacturing is very challenging and time consuming. Another thought is that this is a flagship for the brand and company, not a huge money maker, so why emphasize volume?
@@karlk9316 you are 100% correct it makes no sense. I have toured the plant in the past and I was impressed. They have spent 100s of millions of dollars to upgrade operations. Now adding second shift to produce the 2020 orders running until sometime in December to complete as many as possible. Configerator for 2021 to see options has , or will be available soon. The 10/20/2020 rollout of the Hummer is taking front seat now. Taking orders right after the debut at 8pm. Central if I’m not mistaken.
It's not unreal, you just order one with the options you want and it'll be the price it's supposed to be. There are no dealer markups if you go to a high volume corvette dealer. Do your research.
My understanding is that the brake - by - wire tech from the C8 came over to the Cadillac CT5, so the innovations of this car are already spreading around the GM lineup.
Tom, so you don't know who killed Laura Palmer? I was one of the guys who asked you if you'd use that road to film a car. And the C8 Corvette is just the perfect candidate for that with all the fog and beautiful cinematography. Thank you.
FANTASTIC review Tom!! The TPW for my 2020 LT3 Z51 in Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic is currently 11/23. I am SO excited for this machine!! Thanks for the review.....my excitement level just increased to 12!! 🤘
Great review, Tom. The first line of the green light segment "Take-my-money pricing..." is really excellent; encapsulates the attraction of this car succinctly. Good on you.
Good stuff here - both in the car and in the review. I'm a 911 driver. The new 'Vette leaves me cold. Three reasons. First, as you note in your review, it is big. I test drove one once. Huge car. Dealer bragged it could hold two sets of golf clubs. I don't play golf and I buy a car to drive it. Second, the car does not look good. I would not feel good driving it. Third, no manual transmission. Kudos to Chevy and GM for creating a car like this at this price but I'll stay with my Carrera S cab and row my own. Keep up the great work, Tom.
Absolutely gorgeous! I keep hearing people complain it doesn't have a high Rev screaming v8. I would never give up the NA low rumble high torque 6.2. Always watch you on the big screen 4k. Beautiful locale
I like his brand of smart comedic consumer reporting and he's a very cogent auto reviewer! Presentation and production value is superb yet comes off so casual and relatable. Thanks for the what's-new on the C8, Tom! always still got that 'Evening' vibe about you ; )
Tom Voelk's reviews always remind me of those professional, well-produced car review shows in the 90s, long before Top Gear and Fifth Gear. The writing is straightforward, editing is beautiful, humor is tasteful. Facts are laid out with a balanced opinion. If other car reviewers envy the audience Driven attracts, then maybe they should start learning from the channel, and adapt the style and quality of their content to match the audience they want.
This is going to be a historic moment in car culture. It's crazy. Hopefully in the next couple years I can afford one. Never thought I'd say that about an awesomely built mid engine monster.
One of the best reviews yet! Thanks for the 4K videos, they are great. I have a 2006 C6 with a Manual trans, and won't get rid of it for anything....I've been to 7 track days across the country and couldn't be happier....TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE TRACK PEOPLE! It's not that expensive and it's the best fun you can have with your clothes on.
This is the first Corvette that to my eye competes aesthetically with the Italian supercars like Ferrari and Lamborghini. This is a cool, awesome looking beast (love those door scoops).
Considering the rear is the one part most people say could be improved upon, does anyone think the C8 will get a dramatic design change for the rear or not?
Same here, I'm with you on that one 100%. If I decide to get one I'm going to get the same body color side scoops and my favorite color is red without a doubt.
Too bad you couldn't have done an extended POV drive video with the C8 for those of us who have ordered one, but must wait a year for delivery. We need to live vicariously through you. Thanks!
I found this review to be really nicely done, with great camera work and and precise and enjoyable coverage of the car's features. It has to be the most positive review I have seen since the major complaint is the volume control knob! The comparison of the C8 and the 718 GTS 4.0 (a far more expensive car) is the same that Car & Driver recently did. I think the 718 is probably preferable as a track car, being lighter, smaller and with a manual transmission, but for doing that cross-country trip it would be not nearly as enjoyable as the C8. As to Chevrolet quality, I have owned a C6 (6MT, Z51) for five years and it has been the most trouble-free car I have ever had. GM uses cheap plastic for glove box door latches while I have learned to my cost that; BMW uses it for engine parts. My car is used primarily for long-distance trips and I would expect that once the C8's first year teething issues are worked out (including the stitching!) it will be an excellent car for travelling.
Hello Tom, like yourself, I'm very happy to learn GM or any USA car manufacturer is making great cars! You always knew they can do it, and have done it a few times in the past, great to see them do it again!
Videos like these makes it hard for me to not feel so bit of jealousy. I think I’m in the wrong career because working as an IT tech never allows me the opportunity to drive awesome cars. I always watch your vids on a TV, you always do such an awesome job with these reviews!
To put this in perspective, the C8 Corvette is faster than the new 992 Porsche 911 Carrera S on the Nurburgring and on thunderhill west. And it costs half as much money. So... you can stick with your porsche, just be aware that a C8 Corvette will likely beat you on the track unless you have one of the very fast ones like a turbo S or a GT2/GT3. In which case you paid 2-4 times as much money. Also keep in mind this is a base model Corvette. Much, much faster ones are coming, including a 650 HP, 9000 RPM NA Z06, an 800 HP ZR1 and a 1000 HP AWD hybrid Zora model.
Having owned the manual E92 M3 since 2012, I was quite resigned to the possibility I won’t be able to replace my car with something just as visceral. With the exception of no manual option in the C8, the naturally aspirated V8 the mid-engined layout and attainable price really ticks a lot of boxes for me when my M3 dies.
I don’t understand the “Vette faithful feeling this is an abomination” comment. This was Zora’s plan all along. It’s the opposite. Any true life long Vette fan will welcome the change that he wanted so badly.
Nice review....great B-Roll footage....touched on things in a concise manner....I did cringe though when you shut the rear lid without setting the roof into the holding slots properly...hopefully no paint damage on the leading edge??
This is a very thoughtful, thorough,. and honest review of the car. I have had mine since April and I pretty much agree with everything he says. Yes the stitching could be more even, although I have no problem with the volume knob, it's an awkward reach around the steering wheel. The car is much more striking and visually appealing in person than it is in any video, it looks like an Italian supercar and the ride is incredibly composed and smooth, it rides like a high-powered Cadillac. Those of you who are patiently waiting for your C8 won't be disappointed, there's a reason it's getting all these rave reviews.
Without a doubt, these are the best quality auto review/previews out there. They are informative, and beautifully videographed. I agree about the rear styling. I also think there are way too many cut lines (ie: @ 12:07). Not that I can afford one, but I would want the targa top. It would eliminate a few of those cut lines, and it would make the interior's roof look better, and provide a lesser chance of water leaks. (Hello GM. I speak from personal experience). Let me guess, a targa top delete is not available? Another ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ review! Thanks Tom!

Watch it on the 4K TV. Good recommendation. Nicely done.
The price is unreal all right because no dealer stocks a base model, plus the additional dealer markups.
It's not unreal, you just order one with the options you want and it'll be the price it's supposed to be. There are no dealer markups if you go to a high volume corvette dealer. Do your research.
Thanks for comparing it to the 718. So many reviewers fail to make the connection that many viewers are cross shopping the 2 cars.
I always look forward to your reviews. I'm very surprised you don't have millions of subscribers. People are missing out!
Been watching Tom from Australia since NYT days...can't quite understand he doesn't have more subscribers. Keep up the good work Tom..!!
Tom, your smile tells us all we need to know about the Vette. It's very rare that a driver & semi-affordable vehicle become one.
My understanding is that the brake - by - wire tech from the C8 came over to the Cadillac CT5, so the innovations of this car are already spreading around the GM lineup.
That's why you always have to build halo cars :)
Tom, so you don't know who killed Laura Palmer? I was one of the guys who asked you if you'd use that road to film a car. And the C8 Corvette is just the perfect candidate for that with all the fog and beautiful cinematography. Thank you.
This is my favorite review of the Corvette. Great shots, all in 4K. Great summary.
FANTASTIC review Tom!! The TPW for my 2020 LT3 Z51 in Elkhart Lake Blue Metallic is currently 11/23. I am SO excited for this machine!! Thanks for the review.....my excitement level just increased to 12!! 🤘
Another amazing review Tom! Often don't get some of these US-specific models down here in Australia but I love watching them all the same.
Really, you guys don't get the Vette? It'll be right hand drive. Hopefully you'll get it.
@@DrivenCarReviews We should be in about 2022 at this stage but who knows with GM Australia sometimes!
Great review, Tom. The first line of the green light segment "Take-my-money pricing..." is really excellent; encapsulates the attraction of this car succinctly. Good on you.
Thanks Tom was watching on iPad and computer but now watching on my 65 inch big screen what a difference. Great video and great channel. Thanks
I truly envy your experience with this fabulous Vette, Tom. Now, I'm just gonna sit here and have myself a good cry. 😢
I watched this on a 65” in 4K, and had to rewind twice because the views kept distracting me from what Tom was saying. Looks incredible.
Absolutely gorgeous! I keep hearing people complain it doesn't have a high Rev screaming v8. I would never give up the NA low rumble high torque 6.2. Always watch you on the big screen 4k. Beautiful locale
The best car reviews. The best video. The best editing.
Thanks for the outstanding work, Tom. I watch many channels before I buy a car. Yours is the only one I keep watching after I buy a car.
Finally, a modern American car I would die for!!!
I like his brand of smart comedic consumer reporting and he's a very cogent auto reviewer! Presentation and production value is superb yet comes off so casual and relatable.
Thanks for the what's-new on the C8, Tom! always still got that 'Evening' vibe about you ; )
FYI, I just had dinner with Jim Dever.
Great video Tom. ✌🏻
Agreed. Tracks are fun. I especially like driving other people's cars on the track...
Tom should already be at 500k subscribers, what the heck is going on people, spread the word! Great review Tom
If you're willing to buy out of state and have it delivered, it's getting easier to get one for MSRP. They pop up on CarGurus every week.
This is the first Corvette that to my eye competes aesthetically with the Italian supercars like Ferrari and Lamborghini. This is a cool, awesome looking beast (love those door scoops).
Only downside is the rear end design, could be much better
I would agree. Not terrible, but it could be more attractive, especially considering that is the view competitors will see most.
I saw an aggressive duckbill spoiler on it and it completely changes the look for the better. The rear end of this car needs a duckbill!!
The front is worse for me. The beltline is too high giving it a bit of a boat hull look. Love vettes all the same.
Right hand drive too?! That I didn’t know! Great review as always Tom
Love your channel, Tom. Terrific review, this. I'd pay $USD85k equivalent here in Aus if I could buy this. In a heartbeat.
Considering the rear is the one part most people say could be improved upon, does anyone think the C8 will get a dramatic design change for the rear or not?
Doubt it. The never changed the C7 during its production run. But a spoiler delete really cleans things up in my eyes.
I love my 2020 Corvette stingray spider with 3LT Z-51 package🔥 content coming to the channel
I like the body-color side scoops. Is that factory? All others I've seen had black scoops.
Same here, I'm with you on that one 100%. If I decide to get one I'm going to get the same body color side scoops and my favorite color is red without a doubt.
Incredible video. The panoramic screens were so nice and the corvette color combination is my favorite.
The 10mile run makes me think that Tom is actually a 25 year old who's dyeing his hair white to look cool...
A good friend of mine just ran the Grand Canyon 50 miler with 11,000 miles of elevation change. But he's a couple months younger.
Maybe he's Jason's, from Engineering Explained, older brother.
Or dyed white for added wisdom.
@@DrivenCarReviews Space X satellites orbits at around 340 miles.
@@DrivenCarReviews 11,000 miles of elevation change? Or did you mean 11,000 feet?
Absolutely IN LOVE with my C8!!!!!!!
To bad that the interior is anti BJ because is a beatifull car
Considering that’s the ultimate point of a car like this, it does seem to be a miss.
I'm British..what is anti BJ?
@@studio-flash BJ is a category on porn websites
Too bad you couldn't have done an extended POV drive video with the C8 for those of us who have ordered one, but must wait a year for delivery. We need to live vicariously through you. Thanks!
As usual Tom the best review on youtube. Why don't you have a half million subscribers. Agree on the 4k finery, it deserves big screen viewing.
So, nothing that I say will really detract from how nice this car seems, but my God, can GM just design an attractive rear end for once??
Your reviews are 1st class.👍
I’m on a wait list for a 2022 and I’m definitely getting the matching color vents after seeing this one
That was a year ago. Do you have yours yet?
@@illiyakuryakin3092 it’s being shipped to the dealership today actually
Videos like these makes it hard for me to not feel so bit of jealousy. I think I’m in the wrong career because working as an IT tech never allows me the opportunity to drive awesome cars. I always watch your vids on a TV, you always do such an awesome job with these reviews!
I would argue an IT might be able to afford one of these. While a journalist can't.
Nice car. Stick with my Porsche.
Porsches of almost any stripe are iconic. But evaluated as a value proposition the C8 Corvette leaves virtually any competitor in the dust.
@@stephenhendricks103 but then, AWD, twin turbos, yummy 911s.
@@foam27 And a six figure MSRP.
Rare C8 corvette here he didn't say that this had the option of all the body trim pieces are painted to match car that cost $1000.00
I don’t understand the “Vette faithful feeling this is an abomination” comment. This was Zora’s plan all along. It’s the opposite. Any true life long Vette fan will welcome the change that he wanted so badly.
Loved everything about this Vlogger & the pics are soooooo dope
Excellent comprehensive review!
Great production and video. Much appreciated! Thanks for the excellent review.
Much appreciated!
By far -- FAR -- the most beautiful video I've seen from you so far. That shot at ~5:09 is jaw-dropping. Amazing. Nice work.
Yeah I liked that one. Came THIS close to losing the drone in the tree.
@@DrivenCarReviews I'm not 100% sure any of us are so up for buying you _another_ camera...
As always, your reviews are the best! Keep em' coming
Brilliant, Tom. Always very insightful and intuitive.
Thanks Tom!
Thank you Tom from the UK. This Vette will sell in Europe; good reviews.
Ah yes, I can smell the forest from here. I’m really happy you finally got to drive one of these Tom. Once the wifey is gone I’ll check it out on the big screen.
