This is the first Corvette that I've ever wanted. I'm finally getting the "Every man's sports car" feels. They didn't have to give it insane super car styling, but they did. They didn't have to spend billions on the architecture, but they did. An interior that rivals their own Cadillacs? Sure why not. Same percentage of corvettes get on the track as range rovers that go mudding and rock crawling. FEW... Remember this is the car for insurance salesman and financial planners and wendys franchise owners...
I would have to disagree. In Texas at least, we have a very large group of folks doing HPDEs in vettes. Its about the same ratio as the Pcar guys. While most folks never get on track in any car, I would say that the percentage of track vs non-track vettes is about the same as track vs non-track pcars. But maybe that's different in your area.
I think I represent the vast majority of C8 owners who will never track their cars. I love to death my Z51-HTC, driving fast when the opportunity presents itself, but even when just cruising on a 2 lane country road with the top down; I'm in heaven. I understand why you focused on the C8's track aspect, just remember, 99% of the drivers of both the C8 and its competition you mentioned will never track them. When the new track-focused C8 iterations arrive, I'll anxiously be awaiting your updated reviews.
See I want a C8 for that exact reason you described. I live in Switzerland which is a very road rule restrictive country, so I have to appreciate the cruise. And having a car that gives me some fun and excitement through it as well as cornering up the mountains, this car is it. They just have to start selling them here so we don't have to pay a stupid import tax 😅😂🇨🇭
Your 99% will never track this car makes the Z51 package stupid to buy. It offers you better brakes but only if you are tracking the car so that your brakes are overheating. It offers diff cooling which will never come up unless you track your car. It also offers you a summertime tire that must be replaced to drive it in the winter. If you never plan to track your car why pay for all of these extras? This car as a base model's performance is so over the head of 99% of its owners that the Z51 package becomes a phallic symbol.

As a C8 Vert owner, my experience has been this: the car is extremely liveable, and comfortable for daily driving. I initially planned on continuing daily driving my Mustang GT, but after putting around 4k miles on my C8, my Mustang has been honestly collecting dust. It's so much more comfortable than that car, way more comfortable than my C5 was. It's hard to explain-- I can take corners at high speed and not feel like I'm going throw my tail and spin out. Some things I take issue with said in this video however: 1. Not a SINGLE passenger I've had has "bumped into the HVAC controls". I have no idea why you'd even imply this is possible. The controls are angled AWAY from passengers, meaning they'd have to deliberately try to press the buttons. Normal seating, they'd never even encounter such a problem. 2. Another thing is viewing the engine: name a hard top mid-engine vehicle that comes in a spyder/convertible config where you can still see the engine. Lol, that makes no sense. 3. And lastly, my car was $69,000 (and again, I have the convertible). That's because I went with the 1LT version of this car, which, after owning the C8 coupe 2LT (yes, I have two), I found the 1LT is a better deal for the money. The 2LT's wireless charging is weird because my phone doesn't fit with its case on (which is a case designed for wireless charging). It's way too thin. Also, the front lift was completely unnecessary, something my C5 would have KILLED for, because I scraped that sumbitch every damn day haha. So I definitely recommend the 1LT if you're going vert, because it comes with the rear-view mirror camera anyway, and is just the better deal. Oh and, body colored nacelles (which is what the car in this video has) is a HUGE no-no. Go for the carbon flash colored nacelles and thank me later.
unlike the Ferrari, the corvette still has physical buttons so while the ferrari has its electronic doodads fail after a few months, the c8 will still work in 10 years
Just rented a 2023 C8 HTC Z51 for a week. Have a Porsche 981 Boxster Spyder at home. I was very impressed with this. GM has FINALLY figured out a nice interior (loved the line about the C5 interior "feeling like you're sitting inside a garbage bag."). Build quality was excellent. Their comments about feeling isolated during driving ran true for me; my 981 Spyder makes me feel much more engaged with the car and the road. It's not that one car is "better," they're just different experiences. Great value for the money.

Just had the chance to spend some quality time in a Z51 C8. Frankly, I can’t see how GM can build this car for under $140k. Not just a bang for the buck thing, the entire engineering exercise is as good as it gets…no corners cut. Best surprise, it may be the best riding car I’ve experienced. Simply amazing. I've seen a few of these on the road, and they looked pretty damn good. I didn't like the styling at first, but seeing these in real life was a far different experience. They certainly look way more exotic than anything GM has ever rolled out.
I agree. When I initially looked at pictures of it I didn't know what to think. I saw one recently as it rolled in to stop at a light, it looked pretty good. Love it or hate it, it's got street presence.
"This car looks like it is wearing a supercar bodykit." That sentence sums up my feelings on the exterior design. I don't hate it, and I don't love it. Major props to GM for shaking things up. They took an unnecessary risk and I think it paid off - big time. But I can't help but feel like this is just a first unfinished draft. Also, I suspect they knew they were going to come across as borderline sacrilegious when moving to this mid- platform, so they decided to pay homage to pedigree by trying to incorporate C 1-7 details. Those aren't Easter eggs. They're just goose eggs.
Dude, I feel the same exact way. It’s just not smooth. Looks like it’s made from Lego’s. From the profile, if you seriously blur your eyesight, it might resemble a Ferrari 458. The 458 has smooth lines and this vette has no smooth lines. But some areas are like the price, interior, and performance are spot on.
I wish car companies would go back to the days of styling from Italian design houses. This thing looks like just a set of chrome wheels away from the Boomer in New Balances crowd.
@@truantray Those Italian design houses are now designing overstyled Ferraris and Lambos, with the occasional model that looks just right. The Corvette is no worse than your average supercar, but it would have been better if it had incorporated more Corvette history and been less generically supercar. The side air intakes in particular are excessive, and likely unneeded for these lower-powered models.
@@markmiller3279 I think it is worse. It just looks awkward like the uncanny valley of a replica kit car. I think a slight drop and some wheels that sit more flush with the fenders would do wonders but of course they had to leave something on the table for the Z06 and other high performance models.
"The exterior...looks like its wearing a supercar body kit..." Yes! I'm less than two minutes in and you've already grabbed my attention. I completely agree with you that this is a car that will not age gracefully.
I think the silhouette, particularly from the side and front, looks fantastic. It comes down to the implementation of the rear, the side bulge, and the trim that's tricking people out. The interior might not age well, but I do like how NSX/ S2000 it is. Typing this comment actually made me realize how much I like the new NSX, even though I'd spend equivalent cash to get a first-gen instead.
I've never been all that interested in the previous Corvette's, but this one is just beautiful, both inside and out. Plus, it's a lot more practical than any previous Corvette generation with good ergonomics, better driving dynamics that make this both a thrill to drive as well as a capable daily driver (based on what other reviewers have stated) and a relative bargain for what you get in return. Great review you guys.
Not having a rear spoiler doesn’t do the car any favors. Personally I bought a C8 HTC Z51. For me the engine isn’t much to look at anyway. The HTC is much more exotic looking and practical. Yea you can’t see the engine but it’s not much to look at. Maybe the Z06 engine will look better. Also I personally would rather pay the money for the Z51 performance upgrade than the upgraded interior packages. I can say this I’ve owned 8 Corvettes and this C8 is by far the best Corvette yet and the Z06 isn’t even out yet.
Thank you for reviewing this more as a GT car than a track focused weapon. I have been spending a lot of time trying to decide between a C8, and a used LC 500. This helps a lot!

When Mark is praising the car on street, he's praising the non-Z51 car (albeit w magna ride). When he's praising the car ON TRACK, he's praising the Z51 packaged car. And then when he's criticizing the car on track, he's criticizing the non-Z51 car. Mark doesn't do a good job of making that clear. Jack does a much better job of making that distinction clear. Good video overall.
Love the flat plane crank in my GT350. Respect to GM for bringing one to their Z06. Unfortunately due to chip shortage and greedy dealer mark-up your looking at 120k or more.
The new LM GT displacement rules pretty much forced their hand there. Otherwise they would still be thundering around tracks and taking trophies with that huge cross plane.
Glad someone finally covered the braking issue more than a sentence. It matters if you rip on it daily. It doesn’t matter if you’re Jean shorted your way into the new balance cream cruise though . Wicked fast though . Good video
Loved the comment, "your OLD C7 Corvette".... thinking, wow, my OOOOOLLLLLDDDD C4 Corvette sitting in my garage with the driver side headlamp removed while fixing the headlamp gear and upgrading to LED lights must be freaking ancient! Love your work guys, keep it up!
The new C8, like most GM vehicles, looks like two different designers in two different areas of the design floor designed this vehicle without talking to each other. But it’s mid-engine and fast I guess…
Mark, you pretty much nailed it in your review. Interior is exceptionally designed and made. The rear exterior looks far better without the tacky spoiler, still too much going on in back. It also mirrors the McLaren models too much. It is not better than a Ferrari however, but certainly worth the price. I don't envy those who drive this however, so I suppose that says it all about how I feel about this new Corvette. (I have owned 3 Corvettes before, 1968, 1978 and 1979 models)
This sums up most people's view on the C8: There are those who absolutely love it, and then there are those who really want to hate it, and try their best to nitpick, and spew supercar wannabe cliche's (But deep down know it's an awesome car, especially for the money).
Great review, I want to hear about my worries during a review....the small nagging issues, like the buttons, the seats, the leather, the squeaks and rattles. Thank you for talking about these kind of things....99% of us are not going to the track with our cars, we want to know about reliability, quality and the total experience not just the 0-60.
These are the toughest honest auto critics going...and they are the opposite of corvette fan boys. With that said, I was expecting the worst. Their review shows just how good this new generation corvette is. A truly magnificent platform not only for the money but at pretty much any price. As the engine and transmission options get even more aggressive, it will be fun to see what this car will do. I can't wait to see a 159k 1000+ HP Zora verses an any price anything else. As great as this C8 is, the best days for corvette are yet to come. If you have a C8, hold on to it with all you got. Only sell it or trade it for another C8. These will be the cars our great grand-children will talk about.
It's all personal preference. It may look 5 times better to you and at first it did to me but now after that I own a C8 HTC the lack of rear spoiler looks plain Jane to me again beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I don’t really like the rear. However the front and side profile are great. Plus having a trunk in the back surely will be useful. I can’t wait for the z06 to come out

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I love it. IMO its the best looking modern gen Corvette. The performance is amazing and the price is far better than its competitors. Coup or convertible, this is an American car I'd be Very proud to own. If I could only afford one....... My problem not GM.
Is there a stability control that you dial down for the track but leave fully on for the street ? I didn't fully grasp what you meant about z51 differential though obviously it's twice as good as a z24 Cavalier or z26 Beretta.
The traction management software/settings are only available on the Z51. This would just have your generic traction control system, with ON/Semi-On/OFF options. The Z51 car has around 7 traction management settings to choose from.
I don’t know about that…My z24 with a 3.1 multi port ran over 300k..These things won’t last 100k..Love your comment by the way..I loved those cars as a teenager in the 90s..My mother had the z34 lumina…lol..it had the junk 3.4 liter in it..
I agree the styling is way too busy and lacks finesse, but the base silhouette looks good. It just needs to be pulled back into the studio so they can substract some angles and lines. On the interior, more of the same but not as bad. That long strip of buttons is gonna cause grief for GM. Mechanically, I like what they have done.
Love how you guys not only do great reviews but damn hilarious comments we are all thinking as you are !!!!! And I’ve got to say the launch system in this C8 non Z51 still violently launches throwing you back into your seat. I’ve seen real launches (Z51) 0-60 anywhere from 2.7 to 3.2 which for a new mid engine Corvette is absolutely amazing that I had to put my order in on a 2023 C8 fully loaded 3LT Z51 package. All the bells and whistles for MSRP. Looking to arrive 3-6 months as I was bumped to the front when an already convertible that was ordered was turned down as it was about to built. So now building my mini supercar? Exactly how I want it and it won’t be garage kept road-trips to come and videos to follow the experience as my girl and I travel the United States. Damn for Mark to sat “ Nothing else rivals this” is a great compliment to the engineers and designers who built this C8 Ford tough ………oh wait I meant Chevy tough bwhaaaaaaa!!!!!you need that 3LT Z51 for a real driving experience.
Absolutely a fantastic review. Your going in perspective is justified as GM has, sadly, earned its reputation. The fact that you are impressed is significant and I'm going to take a closer look; it's on my short list.
I had the pleasure of watching folks take delivery at the Covette museum in Bowling Green, KY recently. It's impressive in person. Something about the back end is off. My young son confused it for a Camero at first. Great review!
Another outstanding review of an exceptional car. Now, if only GM would get off their duffs and invest in interior design/functionality for the rest of their offerings. C'mon GM, you can do it.
Car reviewers love to talk about subtleties of handling balance, communicativeness of steering etc. Things which are drastically altered by alignment or tire swaps alone. If reviewers think a car you like understeers too much, add some negative camber up front. If they think it is numb, maybe a different tire, or different toe settings. Corvettes for over a decade have had an amazing level of suspension adjustment from the factory. Huge range of camber adjustment, ride height adjustable, you can corner balance it for your body weight, etc etc. However you want it to feel, you can make it feel that way.
@@quadrifoglio6058 You sort of set yourself up an impenetrable rhetorical claim there. I could list any particular exotic car I have driven and you could just say it isn't "properly" exotic. I'll have to get a session in with a T.50S Niki Lauda I guess to be sure I can win the internet here I guess.
I also don't like the looks of the C8, I think it looks like the front and back were designed by different people and the back looks like it's melting. I'm sure it could be improved in the aftermarket or by Chevy themselves with upcoming versions like the Z06 though
@@jackchurchill3777 I dunno, I think they already tried that with the C7. They already ditched the round taillights then, which pissed off the traditional customers. I think the rear end is the worst part of it.
Lol Alimony Blue...agree 100% on the base car vs Z51 distinction. Z51 is the happy medium. Track Alignment, more aggressive pads and perhaps a +1 in tire size, bam your running with the big boys, for a lot less money. There is some numbness there for sure, but you learn it after awhile and it does keep the car "safe". My 1LT Z51 is a jack of all trades sports car, can GT all day with the top down with the wife, but is also very fun at track days. Love this car and hope I can steal some go fast bits off of the ZO6 when it lands.
All this confirms to me is that my 2014 Stingray manual will never depreciate even if the United States lasts a thousand years. The C7 manual looks better and feels better; in a sports car those are two of the highest priorities.
I daily my 2021 C8 convertible and it is very comfortable and fun to drive. So much so that I am not driving my 2018 Civic Type R as much. I love both cars and can't go wrong getting either one for daily driving!
I argue that the *actual* buying demographic for this car and the LC 500 are very similar, looking for a fun GT car that has the drama and theater. As mentioned in the video, the performance you get at the price point blows the LC 500 out of the water. That paired with the "this is an AMERICAN car" makes it an easier sell than the Lexus.
My brother-in-law bought the coupe, paid 96K for it. 245 miles into ownership, engine heaves its self and dies while driving on the PA turnpike, Chevy takes two months to replace, they offer a Blazer as a loaner. Car gets back on the road, six hundred miles later the car shuts down with an ECU failure, two more months in the shop, then a deer jumps out in front of him, back to the shop. He calls carvana, they cut him a check for 89 K, and buys a truck.
To be fair problems almost always arise on first year newly designed vehicles. It's best to get year two or later. However GM offering a POS Blazer as a loaner is unforgivable.
Oh hey! You broke 500! Grats 🎊 You know what I love, and it’s stupid and meaningless, but the way the colorways swoop over the dash towards the windshield. It’s such a weird but satisfying detail.
They keep talking about $80K, but almost none of these cars were able to be purchased for that amount of money. You couldn’t sniff that for under $100K in 2021. And gals from Applebees don’t care about track options. Duh.

Some things I take issue with said in this video however:
Go for the carbon flash colored nacelles and thank me later.

i agree, something about the back of the car that looks off and doesn't flow with the rest of the car when i see it in person
The cinematography has really reached an impressive level. 👍 Big fan.
"This car looks like it is wearing a supercar bodykit."
That sentence sums up my feelings on the exterior design.
I was hyped when i saw the pictures. Got to see one in showroom and I was meh. Interior is amazing, but outside meh.

Mark, you pretty much nailed it in your review. Interior is exceptionally designed and made. The rear exterior looks far better without the tacky spoiler, still too much going on in back. It also mirrors the McLaren models too much. It is not better than a Ferrari however, but certainly worth the price.

What I really like is the cost of service. My Ferrari's oil change is close to $600. The Chevy LS can probably be done at Econo Lube and Tune for $40.
Nice, love hearing it when rich people are inconvenienced.
To be fair problems almost always arise on first year newly designed vehicles. It's best to get year two or later. However GM offering a POS Blazer as a loaner is unforgivable.
