I'm writing the script for part 2 right now! If you have corrections or comments you'd like me to respond to, please put them here! I plan to post the next video on Sunday, December 1st.
The core used in the footage for Wheatley Crab more than likely wasn't Wheatley as during the period the Wheatley Crab footage was made Wheatley wasn't in the game. It was one of the many other cores that were meant to be in Portal 2. The name Wheatley Crab is instead said by the person recording it laughing and saying the name Wheatley Crab. For more info about the beta you can use this video by Ossy Flawol as a reference. ruclips.net/video/efGVPjsTd-8/видео.html
Just stumbled upon this vid and I'm so pissed I found it now instead of when the vids are already released so I can binge the whole playlist. Still liked and subbed tho...
Even if there is nothing new to me in this video, I love portal videos so I am excited I’m ready to learn more portal facts. Update already and never heard that there really was a cake line before.
14:45 The fourth rule is more clear in the Spanish translation, it says that you should never take the device out and it cuts off. I imagine it should say that you should never take the device out of the test track.
Well, this was a nice video! I've already watched a few of these Portal/Video Game Icebergs and I already knew what a few of the entries were about, but the way you presented them in this video was a really nice addition that made me want to continue watching it until the end. You did a great job here! And I'll make sure to watch Part 2 of this Iceberg the moment it gets uploaded. Best of luck to you, Sudologic!
I don't think the Italian song is the only hint Caroline may be Chell's mother. Chell has a large poster presenting the potato battery in the "Bring Your Daughter to Work Day" science fair exhibition. She's SOMEONE at Aperture's kid, right? Why not Caroline?
I don't think we can outright dismiss the possibility of Caroline being the mother, but we do have reason to believe Chell's father worked at Aperture. That poster you mentioned has an ingredients list for her potato battery, it says that she used something "from daddy's work". That makes me think he's probably a biologist or a chemist of some kind. Caroline could still be the mother, but we don't need her to place Caroline at Bring Your Daughter to Work Day.
@@sudologic Fair enough. Since we're just having fun anyway though, who's to say Cave isn't "daddy," and the theory of Cave and Caroline being married (or at least romantically involved) isn't also true? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I could see it going both ways. Both an actual scientist and Cave himself would probably have access to such materials. A scientist might be personally involved with those materials, so he might know what they do or why they might be helpful to Chell's project. Meanwhile Cave's antics include mantis men and "throwing science at the wall to see what sticks", a monstrous potato doesn't feel far off. Plausible for sure, I'm just not all that sure that these are the kinds of writers that create questions with intended solutions or if it's just a thread they might want to expand on later.
The disproving of the final song "ah clara mia" is that she accidentally used line from some other languange for that line & not the language it was supposed to be (used spanish instead of italian i think). The meaning changes to something else and ellen herself has said about the mistake in different interview/podcasts
Thanks! This video is definitely performing better than usual for me, currently about twice as many views as would be normal, and about 4x the watch time.
I think the other rule for the portal gun that gets cut off is actually said in full if you play the game in Spanish (and maybe other languages, I haven't tested, just going off memory) Edit: Ok I went and checked, it still does get cut off but you can hear a bit more, it starts by saying "you should not take out the-", which probably means do not take the portal gun out of Aperture or maybe more specifically the Test Chambers. Maybe there is a language that shares more but I only speak these two.
This is also a thing in the russian translation. I don't remember if it gets cut off or not, but at least in the subtitles it does say to not take the portal gun outside of the facility.
No, it is gendered but while the expression “Mia bambina” literally translates to “my daughter “, a better translation in this context would be “my child” in the way older people tend to call younger people “son” or “kid” despite there obviously not being an actual parental relationship
"this is the first and only hint in the entire 2 games" correct in the regards of "directly saying" but theres the whole "bring your daughter to work day" thing mentioned in portal 1 and shown the actual event in portal 2 (after you put the damaged turret in) and who do we see named in there? chell, so its confirmed shes someone who works at apeture science daughter, now yes it could also be just some random joe who helped build GLaDOS but therews the potato link as well, and why would they make an extra character for chell, the only characters we have are the cores (full AI so never been human) chell, ratman, cave and carolline (aka GLaDOS) so as the only other female its likely that carolline is chells mother
You are not correct when you say that the ending song is the only evidence for Caroline being Chell's mother. There is also a segment in the game where there's a "bring your daughter to work day" and on one of the dioramas you can see "by Chell" at the bottom of one of them, suggesting Chell was the daughter of someone who worked at aperture and she was brought to work on that day. Also, she looks like Caroline, and cave and caroline look like they have a closer relationship than just being an assistant, based on a portrait of the two of them you can see in the game.
That diorama also says that Chell used an ingredient from her dad's work, which I think makes it more likely that she was the daughter of one of the actual scientists (probably a biologist or chemist), rather than any administrative staff like Cave or Caroline. As another commenter mentioned, in Italian the words don't actually imply a mother-daughter relationship, a bit like how older people might call a young man "son" without being related. That doesn't make the theory impossible, but I think the evidence is very weak.

Editing it now!
wow! so cool, hope you continue this
Thanks! I plan on writing part 2 today!
This video was very entertaining!
5:34 it was used in the 2006 boss fight but that was a recreation from project beta so maybe not
Yeah, I doubt anyone at Valve has ever commented on if they ever seriously thought it would make it into the game.
It's so refreshing to see new, good portal content. Can't wait for the next one! Cheers mate!
Thank god someone made one of these I was feeling bad because I had the means to make one of these videos but didn't lol

It is great that I didn't have to wait 3 years for this lmao
I'm sure you won't have to wait nearly that long for the next part!
Very well done! I can't wait for part 2!
i hope you get blessed by the algorithm

update: i think it did
I was blessed cause this got recommend to me and I'm having a great time

I didn't know that. Makes me think Valve did have an idea about what the fourth rule might be.
Can confirm that it's the same in the French version.
"Vous ne devez en aucun cas sortir-"
(You must not under any circumstances take out-)
Amazing video
As a native Italian speaker, the song is better translated to ask”my child” as “my daughter”
Do you mean that it's not necessarily gendered? Interesting.
No, it is gendered but while the expression “Mia bambina” literally translates to “my daughter “, a better translation in this context would be “my child” in the way older people tend to call younger people “son” or “kid” despite there obviously not being an actual parental relationship
@robot6346 I see. I guess there's not much reason to think Chell is related to Caroline at all then.
i wish i discovered this video later ! i cant watch all parts in one take hahha
Hello persons of culture, the algorithm has blessed us all.
Nice vid
Thank you!
great vid
i no longer want to think with portals after finishing both games in 2 days
First time? Nicely done!

(Also thanks :D )

We actually touch on that debate in part 2! I personally remain unconvinced, but it's certainly a valid theory!
