My guess is they were flashing their lights for the cow outside the fence. Or they were flashing their lights because the school bus might have been stopped picking up kids with red lights flashing around the turn. Nicely done, great driving. Dave, stay safe
Honestly if I was in one of those cars following you I might be a little annoyed but I think a bigger part of me would just be impressed watching you take all those corners
we honestly hate when car drivers get stuck behind us. If there is enough room on the shoulder, I try to flash my lights and move over a little so the car driver behind me can go around me safely. Unfortunately, a lot of these state highways don't have enough shoulder for us to do that though.
Backing a trailer is a skill that many people can never learn. I learned early in life but will only do it with small trailers. Doing what you do is daunting. Respect!!
WHY flash a BIG rig ??? I've watched several bounce off my bumpers with a bit of a bang, plop plop... 😮 😂 You 4 wheeler's definitely need to duck a bit... Flashing tells me to blink each time while smh at ya... Get the grapes ready to sail out the window as you pass by too 😅
I'm on roads like this everyday, delivering corrugated drainage pipe. I've delivered to some of the craziest places on some of the narrowest roads. You did good driver!!
Wytheville.....withville pronounced. Hiawasee pronounced hiwasee. You're in my back yard! Very sharp curves, be very careful cause we don't put curve signs up, you either slow down and safely go around the curve or you go other the cliff. Pick your poison lol. This was cool watching you drive this road we drive on. Safe travels friend!
Right there on your right is a small gas station, that bridge is called Lighthouse bridge. They have THE BEST hot dogs and hamburgers and fries you will ever have. Down to the right is where Hoover color was. Takes you back to the New River.
Hi Dave. Great video! I drove commercial bobtails for 35 years in the San Francisco Bay Area. When I did home deliveries for a cabinet company they always sent me on their toughest deliveries. I would have to drive on mountain roads that most drivers wouldn’t even try. This video brought back many memories of nightmare deliveries I did. Thanks!
Man this has got to be the most entertaining video I've seen on RUclips in a long time! Mad props on the driving skills. I've never driven professionally but my uncle taught me to drive semis so I have nothing but respect for you truck drivers!! Definitely getting a sub my guy
you remind me of my late uncle, thanks for giving amazing content, especially love watching your videos while playing ATS, you've actually taught me a few cool things that I could apply in game. Keep doing amazing.
Love your videos Dave! Always amazes me the difference between our roads and trucks in Europe/UK vs USA. I deliver to a lot of farms and small industrial areas which are only the width of the truck itself in the UK! These roads seem like the dream to us, but I can imagine it is quite the challenge with 53' trailers plus the real estate pulling it! Safe drives Dave!
My husband and I were on a road last year that had THREE! Semi turnarounds that was made on side of the road to get you around this 2 mile area. Cars can get through but Semis are routed onto these uturn areas in order to be at the right angle to make the turn. Shew never want to be on that road again. It was in NC/VA area
I love these videos because I adore all the beautiful trees along the road, and I think Dave has an amazing voice that would be great for podcasts. It's truly a perfect video structure to forget all that plagues the mind so I can relax.
Looks like a normal road to me as a german :D With absolutely 0 traffic. We´ve got some way worse ones, in the mountains, single lane roads with passing sidings every now and then.
I drove a Mixer for 31 years(Same Co.). I didn't have a long trailer behind me but I had your Weight(Mostly) and I'd have to drive curvey roads like that up steep grades and half the time on dirt. That's our job(was), getting the Product to the Customer Safe and on Time. Always fun watching your Vids Dave, nice Driving.
clutch load high prob means the clutch is starting to overheat due to what it was dealing with, speaking of clutch, will your company put u in a manual yet lol I wanna see some shifting
A lot of love from Jamaica 🇯🇲 Dave this video was very interesting seeing those very tight roads, the roads here in Jamaica is also very tight in the country areas.
I'm a retired Australian semi trailer driver, we have a lot of road's that have extremely tight corners but one road comes to mind, there is a road on the south coast of NSW , the corners are that so tight that when you are going around them your trailer wheel's (48ft trailer ) are actually going backwards, you could virtually reach out the window and touch your trailer, and this particular road had over a dozen of these extremely tight hairpin turns, you would have to get on the UHF to let other truck's know you were heading down or up and they would have to stop at the bottom or top as they would have to wait until you got down, it was a place that you never come across another truck coming the other way, shit, it was bad enough for cars , it was a road called Macquarie pass. It definitely seperated the good and bad driver's. Great video mate, greetings from Australia.
Please tell me we get part two of this omg it was awesome you did magnificent bud you did the breathing Exercises the whole time and everything these backroad ones are my favorite by far. Love you bud. ❤
Iv delivered a lot in Virginia. Some of those roads are beyond crazy. For what it’s worth I delivered in a 53 foot trailer with a sleeper in a sub division
Great video Dave enjoyed the story time with Dav and on the flashing I think they were kind of warning you about the cow that was outside the gate. Just a thought.
I'm currently in driving school and first thing I noticed was how much never your truck is from the inside of the cabin to the one I'm training in. That's gotta be one of the newer models of volvo . Looks clean!
I live in Virginia and travel these roads regularly. I definitely don't get mad when I get behind a semi. I usually feel bad for the truck driver having to navigate these roads. You did great on those roads hauling a loaded truck.
It was a good thing that my cdl instructors had us drive on rural roads more than we did the interstate so we would be used to these types of roads and how to drive a trailer along them.
I drive local/regional with different customers weekly. Northern Alabama I've been covering for Montgomery and some of these places are ppls houses on small roads and driveways. No truck signs and low power lines but it's a paying customer so I gotta figure it out and unload it with a pallet jack in gravel, dirt, clay lol always a good time lol
Roads look super familiar. I drove route 8 up to Blacksburg to go to college all the time, and more than once had a tractor trailer put me in the ditch because I'd come around a corner and a damn trailer would be in my lane. Always made me glad I wasn't on my bike, and it made me wonder why truckers take roads that they can't safely navigate.
dave the cars were likely flashing the lights at you for the cow the broke out of it's pasture but wouldn't using the 4 ways signal other drivers that there is nothing else you can do to speed up? also what engine does your truck have?
Keep on trucking Dave, you doing good, just keep it real, and lord be with you,God bless America, you bringing reality to many watching from afar, keep it real brother
LOVE your channel Dave; this vid was a trip down memory lane for me. My family is still down in that area & Wytheville is ‘town’. BTW, it’s pronounced ‘Wiffel’, like Wiffel-ball. Welcome to the New River Valley where the hills go straight UP from the river 😂. You did good 👍
I lived over in Giles county and laughed when I heard his pronunciation. I have and have always heard other NRV folks pronounce it “with-vul”. Depends on how slow or mumbled it’s said to how one hears it reckon. Lol
Just watch: Dispatch is going to call Dave and say "Now deliver this same load, but at night!" Being from Colorado, I'm glad I have mountain driving experience, including the different grades and how to keep the truck in control when you're fully or partly loaded.
If this road was on the cdl test there would be half the drivers out there. That’s some professional driving around those bends with no shoulder to rely on 👍🏽👍🏽
You're in Wi-th aka Wythville, VA. The pilot across the street with the Arby's has better parking I might add, stop there all the time when I can catch Arbys open. I been thru some messed up roads in VA and WV in a Big Truck. Born and Raised in Roanoke though. Just never jump on the Blue Ridge Parkway. =D Their are a few paper places that are two lane like this, narrow and the road has a weave in it as far as elevation goes and will kick your trailer left or right like it wants to roll it over. A good example is I95/US58 like you're headed to Norfolk/Williamsburg, VA. The first ten miles of the road is narrow and will throw your trailer all over the road. The first two bridges I take both lanes to cross them so the trailer doesn't smack the bridge. You gotta just take your time based on the load and your driving experience. I also recommend to slide your tandems on the trailer further back so the trailer takes a bit longer to track on roads like this because as you see, it can be tight or will cross over the double yellow more so than not. Their are far worse Roads in VA that are truck routes with much steeper hills. I couldn't imagine doing this in an automatic either, yuck! That jake brake seems weak as well. I may have even delivered to this place before, looks familiar. I been driving part time while switching at a warehouse the last three years, so for bolt cutters...... Never spend 60bucks on a pair, just grab a 20-30 dollar pair that is sharp, they can be re-sharpened. Going full time back on the road here in the next few weeks, maybe I shall see you out there.
Reminds me of going up to Mt. Rainer in a W900L and 53 ft trailer to deliver 1 stinking box before they closed the park for the season years ago. At some points you had no choice but to use 2 full lanes going arou d the tight turns.
This reminds me so much of a run I do to Timberlake NC, I stop at the same Flying J and everything and the first time I went to that customer I was questioning all my decisions I made that day and if I was going to fit down the road or not.
I thought I recognized that flying J! I worked EMS in that area for over 10 years. You nailed the pronunciation on Hiwassee. 🙂 But Wytheville is actually pronounced WITH-vile. In the southern accent we say it WOOF-vul. Lol!
I'm a dollar general driver under Werner.... Man some of these DG stores are in HORRIBLE locations ..... try backing a 53ft trailer in a small DG parking lot full of cars 😭

Threading the needle, only with an elephant instead of a Gixxer. Not a bad job of handling those curves, and got a kick out of the pick-up driver who waited for 90% of your trip to finally pass you!😄
Honestly, those roads can count as interstates here in europe. We wish we had such wide roads for sure. In my area some streets arent even wide enough for the truck itself. Youre pretty much driving over both soulders at the same time
I think those cars were flashing because of the cow outside the fence
I agree
🐄
I can't believe that thought never crossed his mind. It's not just done for cops, but for any hazard.
Poor guy, kI don't think it's crossed his mind yet. Probably up tight about that curvy road!!!
Agree cause after he passes them cows no flashing
My guess is they were flashing their lights for the cow outside the fence. Or they were flashing their lights because the school bus might have been stopped picking up kids with red lights flashing around the turn.
Nicely done, great driving.

Yeah it was so beautiful I wouldn't complain either.
Backing a trailer is a skill that many people can never learn. I learned early in life but will only do it with small trailers. Doing what you do is daunting. Respect!!
The flashing was probably for the cow,. Here in Colordo, we also flash for wildlife on the road.
I agree. We do it for deer and bear in PA..
WHY flash a BIG rig ??? I've watched several bounce off my bumpers with a bit of a bang, plop plop... 😮 😂
You 4 wheeler's definitely need to duck a bit...
Flashing tells me to blink each time while smh at ya...
Get the grapes ready to sail out the window as you pass by too 😅
@@boobtubeakatv1296 There were cars behind the truck.....

A road like that will keep a driver on his toes for sure, it was a great vlog
More like puckered up 😮😂

That driver got his license through SWIFT
That's a great attitude to have. "Creative parker". Love it.
Always love how other drivers flash their lights to warn that there is a cop lol. Thanks for the video Dave!
This time it was for the cow that was out
@@ilovechieftains I didn't see my ex wife though

Push better legislstors and road construction
I wish we had more cabover semi trucks in the US, they’re sick for smaller roads
I deliver with a box truck to many private residences with roads that are very tight, and trees i hit a lot with a height of 4.25m
Lol "the real estate pulling it" made me laugh, it's so true.
Just remembered watching this video that we need the turn cam back!! Especially on that tight bridge turn
Another reason why I like these videos is that it's enlightened me on how to be more considerate to truckers on the road.

those roads were certainly not designed for a semi. Would definitely not want to run through there at night. Safe travels Dave.
Id say it would be easier to judge if there were any oncoming vehivles, as you can see headlights
I knew exactly where you were at 4:06. That intersection is always a cluster
I fell like that’s every road in the US love the videos ❤

He did the I turn now turn 😂😂😂😂
Now take that road at night during a rain storm with heavy fog. :P
Super trucker alert this man works 72 hours in a day.. back when he started you used a log book for toilet paper
You needed the turn cam for this trip, Dave. Fantastic video. Stay safe.
Dude, I live in the backwoods of Missouri. If you're on a paved road out here in the country, we call that a two lane highway !
Dave you are one hell of a driver
"Hope y'all are excited too" bro seeing you upload is exciting hell yeah brother
I park at the Circle K a lot. When full, 2-4 trucks will park behind building/dumpster. Pepsi always an excellent place to drop/hook. Their organized!

Not gonna lie this had me nervous 😂😂 I’ve been through some tight roads but not like that one, I try and stay on Main highways😂😂
Notification squad where you at🇨🇮
I know exactly where you at. That road is no joke. I prayed all the way down.

Backroads in Vermont has some really tight curves too
when your in the back roads and have nothing to say you just gripe about peoples driving😂
Any road without a shoulder I believe is not engineered with 75-80ft commercial vehicles to navigate, but we've been there, done that, Dave!
Dave: "I'm gonna have to jack the crap out of it."
All the single guys watching: "Welcome to my world!" 😂😂
They flashed for the moo moo 🐮
5:37 that truck scared the shit outa me I thought y’all were gonna sideswipe
Online really sends you on adventures! They must want to watch your videos lol
As an avid ETS2 player, I'm glad I found this channel by accident
This is so funny. I'm watching this video while on my 10 hr at the flyingj in Wytheville Va.
I thought I recognized that flying J! I worked EMS in that area for over 10 years. You nailed the pronunciation on Hiwassee. 🙂 But Wytheville is actually pronounced WITH-vile. In the southern accent we say it WOOF-vul. Lol!
Dave: Oh theyre all flashing me there must be a cop
Also Dave: LOOK A COW ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FENCE... wheres that cop...
I'm a dollar general driver under Werner.... Man some of these DG stores are in HORRIBLE locations ..... try backing a 53ft trailer in a small DG parking lot full of cars 😭
Exactly why I declined DG driving accounts.. I know their a pain
Same but im with Cr England the worst part is everybody constantly passing while your backing it's so frustrating
Flashing there lights due the Cow... we do this in texas when cattle get out to warn drivers
This was exciting to watch I’m getting back in a truck next week thanks man your videos are inspiring
Oncoming cars flashing their lights at you not only means a cop ahead, but also is warning you of a road hazard ahead so be alert. I would say they were warning you about the loose cow on the road side. The cow might have been on the edge or out in the road when they came through and were warning you so you would be alert/aware so you could slow down and be prepared for anything. I used to be a cross-country truck driver in the 70s & 80s and that is what it meant back then, and now that I am strictly 4-wheel driver, I flash my lights to warn on-coming traffic & truckers of delays/hazards/cops ahead of them.
Been there, I just almost stopped, only way to go.
Try the 199 and 197 through the redwoods in Northern California.
Youre pretty much driving over both soulders at the same time
😂😂😂 I encountered a road like that in PA. Always in PA 😅😅
Not going to lie i would have been struggling to get to that place 😂😂 your a pro dave
