Welcome back to The Game Collection! I am SuperDerek and it’s been some time since I explored an indie RPG, so how about we take a look at an 8-bit style game with a focus on what really matters: The number of puns they can stuff into a single sentence! I am SuperDerek and this is Pillars of Dust!
Pillars of Dust is an RPG by Retreaux Games and published by Something Classic. This game was developed by an incredibly small team. It was officially released on Steam in March of 2020. The game is overall a bite-sized experience clocking in under 20 hours, and is a perfect as a palette cleanser if you’re coming off a series of more serious titles.
The game follows two protagonists, Gregg, a poor blacksmith who grew up in a slum, and Carlton, the prince of a kingdom. After finishing each chapter you can choose which protagonist’s chapter to play through next, but by the end of the game you will need to play all chapters of each protagonist. Each story starts simply enough, an old man sets our protagonists off into the world to discover their destiny, and the truth about their histories.

Thanks for watching guys! It's a shorter review for a shorter game, but I've got some big plans for my next few reviews!
Fun fact: This is the 98th episode of The Game Collection. :)
Dude. You are doing great. Don't worry.
Looking forward to the 100th episode!
Thanks, How short is short? That info is always useful to have.
@@InfiniteGameReviews about 10 hours or so
@@SuperDerek: Thanks! You convinced me so I bought it for two dollars.
This strikes me as ideal for the Switch!
r/tomorrow
I love it when I don’t know ANYTHING about a game and you review it lol.
The intro song for this game is a real banger.
This actually looks really cool. A light-hearted romp with great music sounds like a nice pallette cleanser. I really hope this makes its way to consoles soon
Pillars of Dust, more like Pillars of MUST...play!
Hello! I am Sushan and THIS is an Rpg I've never heard off!
Of*
So Fing what Shushan
I'm surprised no one mentioned Mother/Earthbound as an influence for this game. This game totally gives me Mother/Earthbound vibes. I may have to pick this one up!
@treeghettox I don't mean it has traits inherent to Earthbound specifically; the enemy designs and the way you can run into them out on the field, the battles, and maybe even the map designs remind me of Earthbound.
Great review Derek. Thanks.
Great review! I would love to have this on the switch one day
Such a nice change of pace from what I have been playing recently! Great review. And you are looking great, Derek!
Hey SDrpg. Long time fan. Glad to see your video and I’m looking forward to it! Stay up homie !
I'm playing Evoland 2 on Switch right now and I'm super impressed. For an indie game it's exceptional.
Always get excited to see a new episode
If you're a glutton for *PUNishment*
Well done Derek 😂
YEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!! welcome back brother.
i dont know why i had this thought but how cool it would if we would get a monkey island rpg
Super Derek the man!!! I WILL FIND YOU.
new review? helllll yea great friday! :D
The Game Collection is BACK!
I want to play this game, looks quite amazing; great review as always Derek
0:18 alright now I know this is going to be good 👍
I've played about an hour of this game. It's a very chill RPG for sure. It's good to know I get to play as both characters throughout the game. Nice review man!
Carlton, the fresh prince.
Awesome review! this game reminds me of dragon fantasy app game. I have a fun time with that game and I I think I will get the same experience with this game🥳🗡️🛡️
Looks a little too simple for me, even as a comedic rpg, but I'm happy to see indie games getting attention.
Well done... you had me laughing out loud.
It's like a remake of a game boy game from the 90s😊
This game sounds like it is a SWEEP to get through, so if you have it already in your library, you should BRUSH the DUST off it and give it a try
🦍
The Prince and Carlton? Fresh Prince of Belaire anyone?
Kind of reminds me a little bit with The Longest 5 Minutes with the scenario goals. I’ll definitely pick this up if it hits the Switch or Steam if I can’t wait for it! Awesome review Derek!
Thanks man!
The gameplay has a similar feel though L5M hit in the feels quite a bit more, mostly because the ost was god tier
Hey Super Derek. Do you have any games that don’t make the game collection other then Quest 64 or Grandstream Saga? Is it just those two you really didn’t care for?
Others include Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories and Persona 3's The Answer, these were basically the only games that I personally couldn't really find any redeeming qualities in. Generally I don't seek out games that are really awful, but I've got some others in mind that I plan to tear into sooner or later. :)
@@SuperDerek need to see Derek review Traysia, my choice for worst RPG ever.
Turn my brain off. That's means I have to turn it on first, right?
Guys what if his name isn't actually Derek :o
