Ha good luck trying to stop playing Pirate Outlaws... It's so damn fun (I played until 2.30am this morning don't tell the wife). Here's a link to the game blitworks.com/game/pirates-outlaws/ a thanks to the guys for sponsoring this one (but I would have definitely covered it - Slay the Spire was always my jam!). Mark
Excited to get this after watching this video.
Question. What would you say is your biggest gripe about the game?
@@matthewcharles9813 Hmmm it's those classic "unlucky runs" it's certainly not something that's new to this game. Mark
@@SwitchUpYt lol okay. Yeah the unlocky runs just comes with the territory.
Yeah been needing a new rogue like after over playing the good ones already out. (Monster train and enter the gungeon are my favs) Excited to play it.
Btw Wildfrost is getting a release date announcement tomorrow.
The game will be out In a few weeks
This is the big one guys!!
Is this booty worth collecting? Or should this game walk the plank and take a plunge into Davey Jone’s Locker? Let’s find out! Arrrgh!
The first step to overcoming an addiction is accepting it Mark, you’re on the right path mate! 🏴☠️
Hahaha thank you mate! Mark
As soon as you said slay the spire I am sold on this. I don’t know what it is about deck building games but I love them.
I've got the most hours on Slay the Spire but I have sooooo many deck builders - I can't get enough. What with Dredge coming out too, I'm loving the nautical themed! This looks amazing, so much content. Definitely on my radar. Amazing rundown as always. In SwitchUp we trust! 🤘🏻
The only deck builder I've played is Dicey Dungeons. Excited to return to the genre with this and Slay the Spire at some point!
You'd enjoy this one! Mark
Dicey Dungeons is so much fun!
Dicey Dungeons is so underrated
Dicey Dungeons is one of my all time favorites. It's become one of my go to games, along with Quest of Dungeons.
You've intrigued me every time you've talked about this one but I've never played a game like this and didn't want to lay full price. Yesterday I noticed it was 50% off so I snagged it...and holy hell is it going to be a problem. It is crazy addictive!
I just managed to tear myself away from Monster Train to start working on Trails from Zero... so I'm going to try to pretend this doesn't exist. (Who am I kidding? I'll probably get and play the !@#$ out of this).
😂😂😂
u mean your ugly as* just told me that u like smelling my FART because my FART smell like peppermint candy 😃
I put a lot of time into slay the spire and really enjoyed it both on Xbox and switch. This looks right up my alley!
I sunk so many hours into Slay the Spire, but couldn’t get into Monster Train. I don’t know if it’s the art style, the theme, or everything combined, but this looks like something I’ll be hooked on
Edit: I won!
Glad I wasn't the only one. I really tried Monster train but it wasn't nearly as natural as Slay the Spire so I gave up on it.
Same but Monster Train has its own charm and others prefer it over sts, Pirate Outlaws is just lesser sts. :/
@@ricxx5324 it is a decent game. I just couldn't get into it the same way. I think having a deck full of monsters is not my ideal game in this format.
Its the opposite for me i really tried slay the sprire with no avail
GEE GEE!
I'm playing Roguebook lately and it's fun but the non questionable best of the best deckbuilders for me is eshop hidden gem that no one speak about. It is called "Castle Morihisa".
Colorful art, atmospheric music and feudal Japan theme. I'm in love for the first sight!
Pirates deckbuilder 🤔, yes please. Goes to my wishlist, of course!
I’m a huge fan of deck building games. The pinnacle of the genre has to be slay the spire. I’ve been extremely interested in pirates outlaws and can’t wait to check it out! I love the ammunition mechanic, it seems super interesting. Great vid as always! “See ya!”
Wildfrost is getting a release date announcement tomorrow btw 💙
Slay the Spire has to be my favourite deck builder. Excited to watch this video!
I never got into these deck-building games, other than paper/cardboard Pokemon, Yu Gi Yo, and Poker? But I said the same thing with rouge-like, RPGs, and turn-based games. Now I have a backlog of fun because of your channel, and it's not getting smaller anytime soon.
SwitchUp team - let me first just say that you guys are one of the few Switch/Nintendo channels that I sub to, and are by far my favourite of this small selection!
I love how you give attention to some of the smaller niche/indie releases, alongside ‘heavy hitter’ games.
Your reviews are always balanced and insightful - and always a decent length, without overstaying the welcome!
I’m really interested in this and your review has pretty much sold me. I recently played through Inscryption, which is a high recommendation from me. That was my ‘gateway drug’ into the world of deck-builders… and know I’m knee-deep in Slay The Spire ha!
A genre I’d never tried prior to the above titles, and I’d implore all gamers to give these games a go.
IMO Deck Builders are perfect ‘side-games’ to play alongside something meatier.
TLDR - SwitchUp are quality, great review, and I’ll probably purchase this to be my side-game against TotK 😉
Cheers mate!
Oh nice, i was craving a cards game and what a better one to get than the one with the Switchup seal of approval; adding it to the wishlist till next payment day. Thanks for the vid guys.
My favourite deckbuilder is Inscryption. It just completely blew my mind when I first played it and I couldn't stop until I was done. I recommend that everyone has to play it blind.
Love your guys review! I have bought so many games on sale this month im very excited to explore new genres this year :)
Fantastic video! Slay the Spire is of course my favorite. Excited for this one though!
Loved slay the spire! Looking forward to this one
I'm so excited for this!! I've been looking for more games like this and the art style + pirates seems amazing! Would love to win a copy! 😅
Great video, haven’t played any deck builders yet but definitely want to check this one out now!
I will deffiently try this out. Looks awesome. Thanks for the video.
Been watching content from you guys for the past couple weeks, just wanted to say I love the content! 🙌🏼
Really kind of you mate, thanks!! Mark
Love deckbuilders! My current addiction is Faeria, though I’m a bit too late to the game to enjoy battling other players, it’s still a really beautiful and fun variation with the land-tiles and everything. And this one definitely gets on the backlog too. Getting Guybrush Threepwood vibes already 😉
You guys are always making me want new games and I love it (My wallet does not). I already pre-ordered Dredge and now I want this one too! It looks super fun and I love nautical games and anything related to the ocean. Thanks for everything you do!
As for my favorite deck builder, I'm an old school anime fan and my favorite is still Yu-Gi-Oh😂
As someone who's never played a deck builder... You're really selling the idea here 😅 it's making me really consider trying it out
Thanks Mark, I’m hooked now and there is no turning back (what an awesome game).
Dang I've never heard of this one before, but I'm interested now. Cheers on the video guys!
Between this and Beneath Oresta, I think I my spare is going to be gone. Looks like something that I will be picking up soon! This channel is so helpful!
i love slay the spire! definitely would like to play this one.
Definitely want to play this! Slay the Spire is probably my favorite decking building game and this gives off very similar vibes.
Haven't played a ddck builder other than midnight sun's and I got hooked for 60 hours! This looks like it's going to be a vibe!
I’ve never played deck builders. Can’t afford it at the monent but I’ll try and remember this for later. Lovely video 👍🏻
I haven't really tried anyother game of this genre after STS even though there are plenty of them now. This one looks neat!
It's amazing how quickly 2am comes after 9pm whenever I boot up slay the spire....this looks great 👍
Oh yeah I know that one! Mark
This looks great!
I remember seeing it on early access on phones years ago, I skipped over it because early access, but this seems the perfect time to jump in! :o
Is there anyone else who waits until the VERY end of these vids just to hear ‘cyaaa!’ Something about it never fails to put a smile on my face 😂
Favorite deck builder just might be Dicey Dungeons! Love the look, love the music, love the gameplay!
Across the Obelisk on Steam is my favorite deck builder at the moment - really hoping they bring that over to Switch in the future!
Me too!
Btw Wildfrost is getting a release date tomorrow.
It's likely to be out in 2 weeks on the Switch!!!
I haven't played any deck builder yet but this looks so vibrant and creative. I like the art style the most
This looks amazing! I’m almost embarrassed at how many hours i sunk into STS lol. Initially hooked on Monster Train but long-term didn’t get into it as much as STS.
This looks great! I just recently got addicted to slay the spire and have been looking for similar games.
This looks great! I have 760 hours in Slay the Spire and 102 in Monster Train, so this seems dangerously up my alley...
As a father of two, slay the spire is the perfect game for me When im waiting in the car. And it looks like you have found me my new fix.
Don’t know if they really count as deck builders but Baten Kaitos holds a special place in my heart. When I first got it I was so confused and disappointed, expected standard rpg. Ended up loving those games. Totally jazzed to see they’re coming back.
Slay the Spire is one of my favourite games of all time, not just one of my favourite deck builders. This looks right up my alley!
Have yet to play a Deck Builder game, seems like a fun genre!
Didn't know this exists, but it looks great! I haven't played a deck builder since Steam World Quest, and this looks very much like my kind of game.
Nowhere prophet should really get more love. Its a deep and clever deck builder, with some monster train concepts. Its rly good.
This looks great! Love the art style and enjoyed slay the spire. This has a nicer theme imo
Thanks for highlighting, definitely look into this, adding to my wishlist for sure. Would also recommend Rogue Adventure on Android/iOS for something very similar to STS but it's free!
I’m having a real hard time. You guys got me into the we bare bears & breakfast game, Factorio, and have a nice Death-lite. 😮💨 You gata stop I got so much time in a day
Loved a bit of Steamworld Quest, so would love to get my hands on this. The art style looks super cool and very intrigued on the different character options at the start
Wow I was playing this like 8 years ago on my phone… looks like it’s come a long way 🙌
I have played this on mobile, really loved it, but quit because of the in-app purchases. I too, am an old man that just wants to pay upfront! Stoked about this release
Slay the spire is so good. As a board gamer too I love to see games that incorporate these mechanics. Can’t wait to try this one!
Slay the spire is my most played game on switch, so I think this one's for me. Thanks for the code Mark! 😅
Oh no, yet another fun and deep roguelike deckbuilder! Okay StS, Neoverse, Dicey Dungeon, Neurodeck, get ready to welcome a new friend x)
Hahaha exactly right! Mark
I've always been a fan of pirate games. Looking forward for this going on sale and picking it up.
I've never dipped my toe into a deck builder but the mixture of game styles might convince me this time.
I’ve never played a deck builder game before, but this one looks very interesting. I definitely want to give it a try.
Just recently started Slay the Spire and I am hopelessly addicted. Pirate Outlaws looks so fun!
This looks right up my street, I'd get proper addicted to this
Truly is addicting! I have it on iOS and have put a TON of time into it. But I may have to get this on Switch to get the entire experience
Pirates and roguelike, im in! I cant really specify why i really enjoy the Pirate theme, but i do!
I had never even heard of this game, but now I'm very close to getting it. Damn.
One of my favorite deck builder games has to be thronebreaker... that over world, story choices, and morale system mixed with gwent. What more could you want?! This one looks pretty cool, I especially love the pirate theme!!
I’ve heard great things about thronebreaker! Do you need to be familiar with the Witcher lore to enjoy it? (Still haven’t played the Witcher games!)
@@noradurst5317 Not really... there are nods to familiar provinces and factions, but the story follows an outcast queen and her road to reclaiming her throne. You recruit followers in the form of gwent units, and there are several different ways to build a cohesive "army". But you need to make sure morale stays up in your ranks, or you can lose the support of units you've recruited... and all the overworld exploration is done in an isometric format, kinda like the old school rpgs... it's worth a look if the high fantasy of the witcher series interests you.
@@Honest_Grifter sounds like a game I could lose hours in. The morale aspect reminds me of Darkest Dungeon. Thanks for the info, I’ll pick it up!
@@noradurst5317 I hope you enjoy it!!
I developed an addiction to Slay the Spire and this looks like it could do that to me again!
As a pirate and Slay The Spire fan, this game screams I must play it XD
This looks like a fun one to jump into deck building with!
Slay the Spire is my favorite but this looks AWESOME! I love the art style of Pirates!
Oh god... I've just torn myself away from Monster train, put a tonne of hours into that and STS and kind of wanted to keep away from roguelike deck builders for a while but damn, cheers guys, looks like I'll be getting this after work tonight 😅
Uh oh, this looks like trouble! Seems like this would be haRRRd to put down! 😂
I am glad I let my friend borrow my physical copy of Slay the Spire. It freed up time for me to finally do other stuff. Though I am craving to get it back. Maybe Pirates is the right Avenue for me to explore.
I’ve been waiting for this to coke out on switch. I played a lot of slay the spire and hope this is just as good.
It does look lovely. I have been binging Roguebook and that's actually topped Slay the Spire for me - if only as I played that to death. Will definitely add this to my wishlist.
Roguebook is so underrated. Love that game so much.
Roguebook is so good. It's a shame it never got more content past the UI tweaks.
Never played a deck builder game before. But this looks really good and fun!
This seems like a game right up my alley. Put it on my wishlist immediately.
Shiver me timbers! Slay the Pirates is looking mighty alright!
Slay the spire and Dicey are my current deck builders. Also, always good to have Pirate theme games.
Deck builders can't catch a break on switch, another hidden gem (😊) is One Step From Eden, highly recommend and the roguelike + action combat just keeps making me come back to it. I'll have to check out this as well, cause I'm kinda addicted to these like ya said...
I haven't tried a deck builder video game but this one looks fun!
I already own a ton of these roguelike deck builders and yet it looks like I'll be adding one more to that huge list.
lol it’s too addictive
I love pirates and I love deck builders. Game sounds like it's a blast.
I absolutely love this art style!
I steered clear of deck builders for the longest time....until I ran into INSCRYPTION. I learned that day just what I had been missing out on. This one looks like something I need to be playing.
My current favorite is probably Slay the Spire. However I’m waiting on my physical copy of Inscryption to see if it dethrones Slay. I’ve been wanting to try this game though ever since seeing some mobile videos of it. Good luck to whoever wins the copy, but not gonna say I’m not hoping it’s me! Thanks for covering the game and all you all give to the community. Cheers!
My favorite deck builder is slay the spire, much like everyone else for good reason but I'm also a huge fan of dicey dungeon. This looks super fun
Favorite deck builders.... That's a hard choice because there's a ton of great ones. I'm looking forward to trying this one at some point.
I have been curious about this genre. I was thinking about grabbing Griftlands made by Klei the team behind Mark of the Ninja.
Thanks for the responses! May grab all things mentioned here including Pirates Outlaws. I like the art styles of all of the above.
Griftlands is one of the highest quality, ive played most.
Alot more story based with multiple choices etc, so worth the price for me
Griftlands is solid, but if you're new to the genre, it really is hard to beat Slay the Spire. It's also relatively inexpensive, so a great place to start overall.
Griftlands is excellent, but as it's a very deep game with very deep story and mechanics, I'd recommend a more stripped down deckbuilder like Slay the Spire or Monster Train and work my way to Grift.
I really like the art style with the 'faceless' character models. My favourite deckbuilder was slay the spire although I stopped after getting one of the true endings
I felt the same, was completely hooked to slay the spire and played the sh*t out of it, but after getting to the true ending and fooling around with the daily challenges I got bored and never went back to play it, Monster Train on the other hand is awesome even after getting to the true ending, it just gives you so much more variety and content, you should try it.
@dave stopa yeah I have played monster train and found it enjoyable for about 10 hours. I found it slightly less satisfying than STS for some reason. I think I am just burnt out on that style of game.. might try dicey dungeons sometime though
My fav deck builder is Faeria, but this looks great and I love the art style
I wish they'd bring Sid Meier's "Pirates!" to the Switch. And while they're at it, they also should add a remaster of "Infinite Space" for the Switch as well.
I haven't yet played this style of a game, but it surely looks like a ton of fun!
Slay the spire and Monster train are my two favorites for sure, so this will be a must buy. That goes for all games and not just deck builders.
I love Slay the Spire and recently have been playing Hand of Fate 2 (which is great!). Definitely going to look into this one 😁
My absolute favorite Deckbuilder is the physical card game Star Realms, but if we're talking strictly videogames it's gotta be Slay the Spire.
Another deck-builder!!! You folks are gonna zap my attention and money 😂
I would say my favorite deck builder is Night of the Full Moon (played it on Android). Its mechanics are probably not as deep as Slay the Spire's, but the interface, visuals and atmosphere of the game clicked with me way more than the reference of the genre. That said, a nice looking deck builder with pirates? Count me in, yarrr!
Looks amazing. I would love a copy 😊
