don't bother. its a story of a simp being reborn numerous times for his twitch thot. if you think one life time is enough, how about a dozen life times simping for a mid?
This game looks absolutely gorgeous. I was getting really hyped for this one. I actually had someone call me out on getting super hyped for a game based off of 20 year old ideas and graphics, and alls I can say is clearly 20 year old ideas and graphics are still really damn good and can make for an excellent game! So glad it's reviewing well. I'm beyond excited to be picking this one up
It is the 20 year old aesthetics and gameplay systems bolstered by the leaps in technology and technique giving the much needed and appreciated quality of life additions and snappiness of controls etc.
More like 30 year old ideas and graphics

Bought this yesterday during its estimated release date. So far loving it. The soundtracks are good and the fact that some choices seem to take an effect sometime afterwards makes it more lovable!
I was surprised you didn’t cover the mech combat more, but great review overall! I appreciated the Xenogears call-out, as it’s one of my favorite classic JRPGs, and it’s criminally overlooked. I’m so glad people are out there making games like this still. I’ll definitely be picking this up!
For someone like me who's yearned for games like FF VI, FF VII, Chrono Trigger and Xenogears, this game is a must buy :).

Great job on this review. I’ve watched a ton for this game (not sure why-I was already going to play it). Yours has been the most comprehensive, avoids spoilers (one review listed every single homage to ffvi it makes-would have preferred discovering them myself!). Incredible quality of workmanship. This indie project, made alone, is in no way inferior to major projects, also paying tribute and not yielding to high-quality cult jrpg - chrono trigger, xeno gear. The game is incredible. It's a pity that there is no localization into a language convenient for me, but still the game gave me a lot of impressions and pleasure.

Nice review. This game almost flew under my radar but your review and a couple other things about it and I think I'm in. Wishlist for sure. Might just buy it bit there's so much right now it'll get backlogged right away I think. Still looks really cool.
Video is great Mark! I've wishlisted this. I have too many games right now but I will definitely check this out. I love underdog stories/solo devs. Forager comes to mind, which I've purchased on three platforms!

Yeah I love Cross Code.... I think the pacing in the dungeons can be a drawback, but otherwise it us sn absolute masterpiece.

Just started and the game is fantastic. I needed something after playing Crosscode!
So far an absolute amazing game that is a clear love letter to classic jrpgs from snes and ps one era. It is definitely inspired by games of old but adds its own mechanics that honestly make it better in my opinion.

The Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI collection. Referred to as "The Chained Echos".
"Think of these old games as you remember them.. not as they actually *were*".
This is the biggest idea that separates the truly great old-school throwbacks from the mediocre ones. The ones that tried too hard to play by the old-school textbook didn't go over well but the ones that only took the good aspects and built on top of them are special.
Please give me some examples as it is hard to wade through sometimes.
Off the top of my head I feel like Triangle Strategy would be a good example: as in, taking the backbone and aesthetics and bringing them into the 21st century with all the improvement and quality of life updates that entails.
This game is incredible. If you love RPGs, you need to play this. I am blown away by its quality.

been trying it out on game pass, i'm really enjoying it so far! the overdrive system in combat is a fun tight-rope to balance
This game has the quality of 32 bit PS1 style 2D sprites on an HD overlay. It is simply beautiful and reminds me of SNES Final Fantasy gameplay wise. What an amazing game so far. We need more like this

I'm in the middle of The Legend of Heroes: Trails to Zero personally, but I too will be making Chained Echoes my priority after I complete Trails.

Having actually gotten Chained Echoes - I have to admit, I was having so much fun up until the mechs. I don't mind the Sky Armours in combat but the mechs on the maps just feel a little off and not to my taste but they're a required mechanic for exploration. Just found myself not playing the game as much since I received the Sky Armours.
I cannot wait to get home and play this!
Just ordered the physical version. Unfortunately it won't arrive until late 2023 but I'm a patient man.

waiting for the physical releasse.. man all the reviews about this game are intense.. this is such a labor of love from a sole person who developed this game for 7 years.. hope he continues his burning passion.. what a guy.. been an jrpg fan since time and memeorial and this game is a must, money well spend and i coudnt ask for more 😊

I bought it today, already played 8h and love it!! It has a few innovative and interesting new features and gimmicks, while staying old school. The story and characters are great so far. I am really impressed with it!!!!!
the sprite work is simply beautiful, this it the type of game that even I can appreciate ( not a big jrpg/turn based fan ) Yet i find myself drawn towards this charming looking game! thanks for a great video bruv :)

Oh boy, I’m in trouble. I’ve been trying to get through my backlog. I’ve been trying to finally get through Persona 5. And now this!
Haven't even started Persona 5 Royal. Chugging through Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope and just bought Persona 5 Royal on a Black Friday deal, & have a HUGE backlog, lol. Divinity Original Sin 2, The Witcher 3, Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen.
