I LOVE THIS RACHIE Why are you so amazing? Your vocals are stunning. And I love the video, you picked such a good arrange... And your adlibs sound like proper beyonce backup vocals or something
I've listened to several different versions of this song quite a few times and I still can't figure out what it's supposed to be about with any real confidence. I suspect that's probably partly because it has rather vague lyrics in the original Japanese, since every sub and dub I've seen has substantial differences in its translation. If anyone thinks they know what the lyrics are supposed to be about, I'd be grateful if you let me know!
It’s a song about prostitution. Paying the woman to like you, pretend you’re great, all the things you want to hear, etc. then when your time runs out, she takes the money and leaves. And it was all a lie.
@@ZenoBell016 Hm; I suppose that could very well be it, although there are some parts that don't seem to me to quite fit with that interpretation. But that's still the best-fitting specific interpretation I've heard proposed for this!
I think the song doesn't refer directly to someone getting his delusions with money as most people do. I rather think it's about the pain you feel when you realise your delusions are not true. But that's just my interpretation. I don't speak Japanese, so I probably know as much as you.
My interpretation is that it's someone who feels unfulfilled, and attempts to rectify this through their delusions. They relentlessly pursue whatever it is that they think will make them happier, with no consideration to how their actions affect the people around them. But it's never enough, they're never satisfied. They always feel like they're missing something. Instead of finding whatever it is, the person deludes themself into thinking other things will take away that feeling, and they're willing to pay any price as they believe it'll all be worth it in the end. Their misdeeds pile up but they still continue chasing the delusions, not realising until too late that none of it is what they truly wanted. Their misdeeds catch up to them and they've lost all the people and things that were actually important to them. They pay the price when they're left with nothing.
This song really reminds me of the book 'The Great Gatsby" "Isn't she a good girl? She might be the best one There's so many good things happening within her mind" This lines would be describing Daisy, in the eyes of Gatsby. He was extremely infatuated with his idea of her, desperately wanting to be with her. "Tell me does that please you? Can you say you're satisfied? Everything you dream about, don't you want to make it come true?" This fits well with Gatsby, as he had huge ambitions from childhood, culminating in his desire to be with Daisy. He couldn't be satisfied until he was with her and had everything he desired "Everybody's rich, we're good to go Everyone lives on top of the world!" This fits very well with how everyone in the series is very rich and many see themselves at the top of others. "And you'll pay any price to decide your future Although the road you paved won't always look so grand You'll go beyond the pain so you can get ahead" Gatsby would do anything to follow his dream. In the book he uses bootlegging and other illegal methods in order to make his fortune. He also was taken advantage by many people, such as the attendees to the parties he ran. The attendees didn't care about Gatsby at all but benefited from his attempts to impress Daisy. "Yes, you will make payments for those filthy delusions With all the dirty money you have" Gatsby ended up failing to get with Daisy, as she decided to stay with Tom at the end, despite all the effort Gatsby went through to impress her. He made payments for his delusion that his relationship with Daisy could ever work out. His money could definitely be considered dirty, considering he got it through illegal activities. "Everything's for your sake, I did all this for you My system of love is your sweet obligation Tell me does that please you? You're not looking satisfied So who is the idiot that will not quit screaming "NO!"" This related extremely well to Gatsby's relationship to Daisy. Gatsby did EVERYTHING for Daisy, but it was never really enough to convince Daisy to leave Tom for him. Gatsby's love was intense and he's do anything for Daisy, but she wasn't impressed enough by it, which hurt Gatsby deeply. "All the things that you keep wishing for all the people that you're thinking of All the unpleasantries in your past will be altered just like you asked" Gatsby wanted Daisy to love him despite the fact that he came from a poor background and used illegal methods to become rich. He doesn't want to be associated with his origins, which is why he lies and says he was born rich. "Bring your true self to the surface And show the heart that you believe you have" Daisy is very shallow, but Gatsby was basing his love on the version of Daisy he loved 5 years before. He has imagined her as perfection and put her on a pedestal. Gatsby wants Daisy to reveal her true self, which doesn't actually exist. "Despite what you have paid, you have nothing to show And it's a lie, lie, lie, everything that I spoke" Gatsby worked so hard and paid so much for Daisy, but she ended up staying with Tom and it was all for naught. Daisy didn't quite lie by saying she loved Gatsby, but it wasn't true that she *only* loved him. "So thank you very much, I think we're out of time These scraps of paper that you gave me are all mine" Nearly everyone around Gatsby took advantage of him, like the attendees of his party, and Klipspringer, none of which actually cared about Gatsby but gained a lot from him. The rest of the song is mostly repetitions of the above lines. I just thought it was interesting how well this song connected to the book!
bro i wish you’d commented this when i wrote my english final two years ago connecting vocaloid songs to the great gatsby ✌🏻😔 this is gold tho thank you
hi rachie i know you may get comments like these a lot but i want to say ur a really big part of my life, even if we've never interacted. you, juby, and other vocaloid cover artists have made my life so much better than it would have been. when i was a pre-teen, my mom and dad started drinking, and it got really bad. my dad ended up getting fired from his job and we had to live off of a pension. he and mom fought a lot, and it just delved into intense abuse of me and my siblings. the only solace i had was my computer, and when i got into youtube and vocaloid, i wondered if there was people who covered these songs. i finally ended up finding a bunch of different artists, and it took me a while, but i got caught on you and juby. i related to the emotions in the song, and the way you were able to portray it so beautifully with your vocals. when i was fourteen, i came out to my parents as gender non-conforming, and they isolated me from everything. i was only allowed to go to school and home. i wasnt allowed to see my friends. i had no internet anymore. that on top of my extreme depression led to me downing pills. my sister found my and called 911, but i had to have liver surgery. i survived, though, and when i finally got my stuff back, i listened non-stop to you and juby's stuff. my dad is sober now, and my mom still drinks but not as much, and theyre getting divorced because they enabled each other, but... i just wanted you to know how important you and juby were and still are to me and my survival. i turned sixteen just this month! i.... hope you are successful at college!
+Eruren Tho you are such a brave, brave person for saying this and you did not deserve anything that happened to you. i'm so glad my music could help you get through life, but more importantly, i'm really glad you're alive! thank you so much for listening to me and i hope that you have a happier life from here on out!!
XD I got a mix feelings about this... if you're depresed and you listen to Rachie's cover, half which are deep depressing songs, I wonder if listening, to most of Vocaloid songs for that matter, can help. But whatever fam, everyone's equal when it comes to Rachies song.
I think this is about a girl who can grant any wish and there's this person who has a ton of money. That said person is greedy and really wants everything. So she grants all the things he wants and is so happy in his desires that he doesn't realize how much he needs to pay. He keeps wanting and wanting till she comes back and is basically like you need to pay now. He's spent so much that he didn't know that he's broke. So everything was in the end- fake, he loses it and gets delusions. Hence delusional tax. The granting girl left out the whole truth.
Icah I thought it was more of a guy being unsatisfied by his relationship with his girlfriend so he just goes to strippers to make his dreams come true and he constantly goes to them and eventually he wines up becoming absolutely broke from spending his money on them.
rachie, thank you for color my life :") love your voice and almost no one can compared to you. only you and CHiCO can touch my heart with your voices :" keep covering, Rachie. love all of your covers.
AHHHH IT'S BEAUTIFUL, I WANT TO DANCE TO IT, CAN I DANCE TO IT?! I was beginning to tire of practicing the choreo with the original song, but HOOOHHH MAH GAWD, THIS ONE'S GOT ME DANCING LIKE THAAAT. *snaps finger*. Great job! :D
Hi! So I finally filmed the dance at a con last month (in public, but not on stage or anything xD). The video is on CosStarDance's YT channel if you wanna see. :3
This song is oh so catchy! I had it stuck in my head during exams and it completely distracted me, though eventually I started using it to help me answer questions. Like making the question go along with the beat.....
It's been such a long, long time since I've been floored by a cover of anything. (Heck, floored by a song in general) But wow... I can't really say much else considering how breathless I am right now. This is an amazing cover than not only translates the original piece, but improves upon it substantially. Amazing. You've got a new sub for life.
This is truely amazing! I can't even count how many times I listened to this XD ! But I have one question. I wanted to sing the acoustic version of this song too and I just love your interpretation of this song. So my question is, would it bother you if I covered this version similar to yours? I fell especially for those background vocals.

Convincing themself that it is in fact, worth it, for the things they want to happen. They think the taxes are worth the world they want to live in, but in the end when they find it's not worth it, they have no 'money' left to give. 'You'll go beyond the pain so you can get ahead' may refer to them pushing aside the fact it is indeed bad for their health, in exchange for their ideology and thoughts of a better world being real. 'Sipping from a balloon fish', aka a pufferfish, pufferfish are highly toxic and can expand quickly. Sipping from one, maybe thinking it's safe, as it expands and pricks you with it's highly dangerous spines. Or, paying your happiness and home life in exchange for bliss, as you finally accept and realize said bliss isn't happiness, only to have nothing left afterward. This is a really long-shot and hypothetical theory on the meaning, but it is 6am and I stood up all night.

I really like how this ends, I feel like it's making a point about how people often don't realize they've wasted their life by making bits of paper a priority, until it's too late
I had no idea what this song was about since I only listened to the Japanese version until now, so I was really surprised :p Regardless I still love the song and your beautiful voice!~
Fantastic! I've listened to this cover about a thousand times, and I still can't get enough of it. But I do have a request. Do you think you could tell me what font you used for "DIRTY MONEY" at 1:09? The entire video was super awesome, but I really liked that font and might want to use it for my own editing purposes in the future. Thanks in advance! ~

Omg. You've covered literally ALL the songs I like! Kagerou Project! And these types of songs from Vocaloids!
Oh my gosh Rachie!! It's a really pretty song and your vocals always amaze me! I laugh because I've been studying for my Finals which are on Monday with this song! However I believe my school has a sick sense of humor cause it made my birthday the first day of Finals for me here in California.

It's called ibaraji!!
