He's like the soccer dad at the backyard cookout you hope you don't get stuck in a conversation with. Leko, Danya and Judit are light years ahead of him with commentating, not to mention there's a large handful of players not in this tourney that would do a much better job than him. Suppose when you're a top exec you get to decide that you'll get the limelight when you want it even if it's a worse product for all us.

Danny's commentary was lackluster, especially compared to Danya (may he rest in peace). I found he was just repeating Hess or stating the obvious. I found the question about lofi girl cringe. The questions in general were so light and uninteresting.
The Semifinals and Finals will be played in Paris from September 6th - 9th. These are the Quarterfinals which were all played online. Hope that eases your confusion. Also hope English isn't your first language.

Those long slow transitions often cause us to miss their post-game reactions, and miss more stuff during games.
A Magnus vs Hikaru show down is what I'm praying for today.
I realise Danny loves his job, and he isn't awful at it, I just don't feel he adds anything in commentary. He performs as a colour commentary person, which just isn't useful for chess here where we really want to understand what is happening.
He is the guy who just fills the silence. We need GM tier commentators for these high level matches.

Please please stop using Danny Rensch for these big games. This is not at all a hateful comment but David, Danya, and Tanya are all far far far better options. It makes my heart sink to see he will be commenting for 4 hours on such amazing match ups. I hope the channel considers this constructive feedback.

I don't recall many over-the-board bullet tournaments, and am not so sure I want to see them smashing hands together in the time scrambles. If their ratings are comparable to their online ratings, Magnus should win by about 19-9 with about 99% odds, but I wonder if there won't be significant equalization of speed in manual moves? Also, if online ratings reflect actual reality, which I do not expect, Hikaru is expected to defeat Firouzja 16-12 with 83% odds.

He obliterated poor Minh le, only wins he got were when Magnus disconnected twice. And Arjun is a world class youngster who doesn't tilt, so of course he didnt dominate him. He played easier pairings years prior, except when he lost to MVL in the semis 2 years ago. Hikaru didnt dominate Jose like he maybe couldve, but Ian is again nothing to sneeze at.

White queen's only move after rook retakes is f3 as it protects the d1 square (preventing checkmate), and after queen exchanges the king has room to escape (that's what the computer wanted before the fork even).

Danny Rensch is so good at knowing when an average human doesn't understand winning positions and goes over to the analysis board while other commentators think it might be obvious and don't think about showing move sequences. Or they just don't think about showing sequences at all.

Danya got sacked because he cant hide his Bias. A commentator should always be netural if you cant be neutral you should not be casting. Odds Magnus 90 % Hans 10%, Alireza 60% Hikaru 40%
Where did he show any bias? Because he conducted an interview and actually let the person speak?
It doesn't seem he got "sacked" or "placed in the basement" he has been commentating half of the tourney while Hess was commentating the other half.
