My Split pea soup is thick. I learned from my mother. It started with a smoked ham hock. The ham was simmered first then she used the water from the ham to cook her split peas. When the split peas were almost done she added onion, carrots, turnip and potatoes.
I simply LOVE EVERYTHING YOU DO so easy and delicious I'm salvadoria El Salvador 🇸🇻 unfortunately I EAT everything I cook with your recipes thank youuuuu
This soup is delicious. I made it yesterday. I used a ham hock. I also liked using the yellow split peas. They were sweeter. I also liked adding the carrots and garlic at the end. The only thing I will change is adding potatoes, but that is a personal preference. Make this soup you will love it.
I made your split peas soup tonight. This is my first time working with split peas. I used the green one because I had them on hand. I can quickly understand your presentation. The sequence of your steps is very logical. For example, you said to spoon off the foam and add the thyme afterward. I accidentally reversed these 2 steps and I lost a lot of thyme. The soup is very tasty. My husband said this is his new favorite soup. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
Happy New Year🥂, Natasha! You started the new year off with something truly comforting, which is a split pea soup! It's truly loaded with lots of fresh vegetables and potatoes. Wow, I can tell you use potatoes frequently! I am genuinely intuitive that you are never not a great chef! Surprising impressive how you are willing to sustain your cooking strengths throughout so many years! By the way, this reminds me of the lentil soup I had in Costa Rica! 🇨🇷 They surely both taste good and comforting! Anyways Natasha, looking forward to more of your delicious recipes this year! They are always great!
Happy New Year my friend ! 🎉 Thank you for your lovely words! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the split pea soup - it's indeed a cozy start to the year. I'm glad it reminded you of your comforting experiences with lentil soup in Costa Rica! 🇨🇷 Your support means the world, and I can't wait to share more delicious recipes with you throughout the year. Here's to a tasty 2023! 🍲
Happy New Year 🍻, Hannah! JK, Natasha. This is a nice and delicious soup. It looks interesting. I'm sure it's a good combo with carrots and potatoes. Ur like a master chef. Or a professional! This is a good start of my new year 😊. See u in the premiere tomorrow. Peas ✌.
Happy New Year! Is it Edward? 🎉 Haha, Natasha here, not Hannah, but thank you for the cheer! I'm so glad you find the soup interesting - the combo of carrots and potatoes does indeed add a wonderful touch to it. Your kind words mean a lot; I just love sharing my cooking adventures with you all! Looking forward to having you at the premiere tomorrow - it's going to be pea-rfect! 🍲🥕🥔 See you there! 😊
It's one of my favorite soups! Brings memories from childhood, my mom was making it for us. Can't wait to see your version 😍 Thank you so much for sharing with us! Blessings 🙌
So my wife decided to buy a ham after Christmas, and one evening after making omelets using some of the ham, she starts singing, Ham bone, ham bone. There's actually a song called Hambone 🎶 As soon as I heard my wife's singing I thought of Natasha's recipe that I'd just seen. Looks like I have all the ingredients on hand, I'm going to make this. I know it'll be great! Thanks Natasha!
Greetings from Greece!! 🇬🇷 A very happy, peaceful, prosperous, and delicious new year!🎉 Very interesting soup recipe that we're going to love I'm sure! 🏆
This has to be the absolute best Split Pea Soup. It's creamy, filling and best of all, it tastes great. This reminds me a lot of my Ukrainian Mom. The dill, I believe is what makes this go over the top. Thank You Natasha for another great recipe and great memories of my mom. HUGS from Canada.
I cant wait to make this. Whenever i cook natashas food. Everybody loves it. I did lasagna soup on saturday and it was gone within half our. That's how good it was. Thank you Natasha❤
Thank you for all the wonderful meals. Learned so much from you. You are such a sweet pumpkin. I say this with respect. You have a beautiful heart and soul. Wishing you all the best young lady.
Happy New Year to you and your family! I LOVE split pea and yes, most people would refuse to eat a green soup. I purchased four cookbook for myself and another one as a gift 🤗
Thank you so much for your sweet words! 🥰 If you've never tried making split pea soup before, you're in for a delightful treat! This recipe is packed with flavor and coziness - perfect for a comforting meal. I can't wait for you to try it and hear what you think. Happy cooking! 😊🍲
I put mine in a crock pot and leet it cook all day, all night, and eat it for dinner the next day. I forgot the bay leaves/laurel leaves so im going to toss a few in right now. I buy a large bone in ham, we have a ham dinner the first night, a ham and potato casserole the second night, the split pea soup the third night so a $20 ham makes three great meals plus a few ham sandwiches for my husband and my kitties love ham so of course they get a lot too. I cut the chunks of fat off with a little ham and the raccoons get a treat too, lol, everyone gets some ham around here. I do the same with corned beef, first night we eat it with cabbage, potatoes, and carrots, second night i make Ruben sandwiches and i put the sandwiches together and fry them in a pan (like you would a grilled cheese), and the third night I make corned beef hash with fried eggs on top. I love cooking and you're one of my favorite chefs for awesome recipes.
I can't believe I do the same, but I did it by accident when I forgot to add the garlic at the beginning of my recipe and added it at the end and made it taste so gooood.
I didn't have yellow split peas so I substituted dry soup mix (yellow & green peas, lentils, barley & rice) I also didn't have any potatoes, so I used 1/2 a rutabaga. lol It still tasted fantastic! That's the great thing about soup....you can usually add whatever you have on hand & still end up with a delicious meal. :)
Thank you excellent job. I just made a batch of it. Came out awesome thank you. Also your tuna casserole recipe was amazing. I just can’t find it anymore on RUclips. I wish I would’ve saved it. Ior wrote it down.
I made this soup this week. It was delicious and very filling. I am not a fan of green split pea soup. It has a flavor I don't care for. This soup didn't have that taste. The yellow split peas I found in the grocery store were grown in Ukraine. That gave it an extra good flavor. I thank you and your mom for the recipe.
Looks great, great recipe, if added diced carrots for sweetness it would be almost exactly like dutch/Amish, yellow peas look better than green like said lol, I missed sharkie in video until end 🦧🤣😂, we offered as toppings grated sharp cheddar, red cabbage and apples, sour cream, or any combo/all.. time to pull out a ham bone lol. Tyvm tc
Thank you! To be honest, I have not experience with GF baking. I have this almond cake recipe that is complete GF naturally which you might enjoy. natashaskitchen.com/almond-cake-recipe/
Hi this looks like a great split pea soup!! I will have to try it out! I remember when i was a kid and my mom used to make this soup, she always added some vienna sausage, it was always so good!!
Lost your yt feed post I meant to add also that as a kid dad often made corned beef hash at breakfast in the 60s to the 80s. It's not common anymore neither are many other mid century and later meals My gpts always had fruit trees and bushes and they'd give me cut up fruit with canned milk so goooood
Yes please as it’s getting colder. I have a problem seeing sharky because I am so engrossed in your lovely cooking. I do like the drum roll you do at the start.
Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you're looking forward to cozy recipes as it gets colder. 😊 And don't worry about spotting Sharky - it's easy to get wrapped up in the cooking fun! I'm happy to hear you enjoy the drum roll at the start - it's one of my favorite parts too. Stay warm and happy cooking! 🍲🥁🦈

Happy New Year, Natasha. Thanks for the recipe. I love split pea soup and will definitely try this. By the way, I saw Sharky at the very beginning of the video.
I make chili in a crockpot & i always say it’s better the next day , i think it just needs what i call set time , i think gtge spices and flavors needs time to mash
Hi Natasha I just received your cookbook today I was thumb through it and came a across a picture of your mom in her earlier years now I know where u get the good looks I can't wait until I dive into more and start making your recipes and hope you have a blessed and healthy year thank you ❤❤
You can buy ham hocks or shanks in the stores where I live. You can also try the soup with a smoked turkey leg. Using the bones gives you a better texture in the soup since you get all of the gelatin (and maybe a little fat). Love the videos, thank you, and good luck in the new year!

Hi Natasha what a great video! Bean soups of various kinds have been in my family forever; Serbian Pasoujl the way my Dad made it (secret recipe lol) German lentil soup but this one is in my heart; my best friend was from Quebec City and his recipe is so much like yours it's brilliant. On a weekend he'd gather up stuff and make his own stock and ham hock yes and it sort of took all day but we were hanging out so it was totally worth it and and a huge vat he could freeze or have people over, he made his own bread, heaven .... wonderful memories tx so much am making it today!!!
