Yes indeed, I remember the Original Pea Soup Anderson's in Buellton, Ca. on the way to Solvang, Ca. EVERYTHING on the menu came with a bottomless bowl of pea soup, for making HUNDREDS of Gallons of pea soup every day, that soup was truly remarkable. As a teenager I had a Club Sandwich and 3 or 4 bowls, on my Honeymoon I had the same thing with only 2 bowls and on the various Anniversaries I still ate 2 bowls. 😋
Wow! Never expected a Dutch recipe on this channel! In The Netherlands we make this recipe with celeriac root instead of celery and top it with slices of a dutch smoked sausage. We eat this recipe on cold winter days.
Made the Pea soup today with a meaty ham bone. Easy, worked up quickly, and even cleaned up the kitchen completely while it came to a boil before the decrease to a simmer. Love your recipes. Great, simple recipes with amazing flavors that taste like "home."
Andersen split pea soups! Headquartered in Buelton, CA.... and my dad would always say the same thing as your mom. He also (having "come over" from Sweden) called the soup Thursday soup, He told me that as the week went on, proteins were harder to purchase until payday, so soups like split pea started appearing by Thursday;-) Haven't thought about it in years. Thanks for taking me down memory lane. And I'm headed to the kitchen to make a batch!
Yes, love Pea Soup Anderson on road trips & as destination. Have been many times, and especially to the Buelton location as my parents (& me too) love Solvant. Great recipe great memories. Thanks! Cheers Maggie 😎 California
I not only do I remember California’s Anderson’s Split Pea soup restaurants, but also as a child went on yearly day trips up the coast to Solvang. Thanks for reminding me of a wonderful childhood memory..
This is the exact recipe my mom made too, except she used the yellow split peas. Everyone who tasted it just flipped for the flavor and she always was handing out the recipe. Thank you for the memory. I'll be making this for sure after Easter.
Rock-solid, no-frills home cooking. Beautifully cooked with fresh ingredients. I get hungry. I love legumes in every form and they should actually be on the table much more often than high-quality and tasty protein suppliers with plenty of fiber. 👍👍
I can almost smell how good this is. This is pretty much the way I was taught to cook pea soup. I just add celery and potato’s in our pea soup, along with the carrots and garlic. I serve it with fresh hot French bread.
This is the recipe I've been searching for! I lived half of my life in Carlsbad, California, and there was a Pea Soup Andersen's with the windmill right up the street! from my house. I checked other videos and recipes, and yours is the one I hoped for. I'm going to make it tomorrow! Thank you.
I made this soup several times and we really love it. It is a quite substancial soup, but we cannot resist serving it with garlic bread. Thank you for the recipe.
When searching on tube for Polish version of this soup (Grochówka) come across your channel ... your channel is awesome and your split pea soup is how i remember from my own childhood ;) All-ready made it three times, thank you and good luck with your channel :)
Another Christmas is here and I have a ham bone ready for some scrumptious split pea soup. Happiest of a holiday season and thanks for sharing this recipe. By the way I am happy to report our local Anderson’s restaurant is still open and going strong here in Buelton Ca.
I was just looking for a split pea soup recipe and yours caught my eye, plus I liked the way you explained things. I have a number of digestion issues and split pea soup is always very soothing to me accept I'd have to leave out the onions. Infact I'm going to make this soup for my birthday on the 24th when I go visiting to my son's house then- thank you!! 🤩😋🤗💖🍲
Ahhhhh the childhood memories of stopping to get Andersons split pea soup when we lived in California 😊 this recipe is so much better! Thank you Lisa! Easter Blessings! ❤
This recipe is very similar to the way my mother used to make split pea soup when I was a kid. I'm taking ham steaks out of my freezer now to make this tomorrow. Can't wait! I live near the Canadian border and many of my Canadian friends use yellow split peas to make this soup. Either way I love it! Thanks for reminding me of this recipe.
I do remember the Andersen Split Pea Restaurant (I’m 75). It was a ways off the highway though in Solvang, a sweet little hamlet, and I was doing my trips from Santa Cruz to L A and back to visit my parents and seldom had the time. But that soup was heaven in a bowl. Life goes so fast Lisa. Savor it.
I just came across this recipe, but I just made pea soup this morning. I added all ingredients to the pot. Added a piece of ham when boiling, according to my recipe, cover and 80 min. done. I used an emersion blender to smooth the soup. Came out great.
My mum always used to make this soup in winter and it has long been a favourite. We are in the midst of autumn over here (Australia) so I will be moving to making soup every weekend as part of my meal prep, and you guessed it, pea and ham soup (which is what we always called it) is on rotation! Looking forward to trying out your recipe.
I had no idea Andersons had closed down! It was the place to stop on my trips to and from college. Sad to hear they closed but excited to try this recipe.
Looks delicious! There's still a Pea Soup Andersen's in business in Santa Nella! Such a cool place to visit and eat delicious and classic pea soup, and their danishes are great too! They also have a gift shop ☺️
I love all your recipes! You actually taught me how to make hardboiled eggs and it works 100%! I've passed it on to many people and if I tell you how many people have irregular times on making it eggs. Big Thank you again! Lory Earles Staten Island NYC
Hi Lisa! This is just how my mom made split pea soup. My Farmor made Erte suppe, yellow split pea soup, which is the same, just with yellow split peas . We always had fresh baguettes to dip in the soup. Wonderful, thank you for reminding me to make this gorgeous dinner dish!~ :D Love from jill at In My Treehouse Kitchen
I grew up in the Bay Area, CA, and we often visited grandparents in LA. Also visited Andersons where I fell in love with this soup! Thanks for this recipe, it brings back good memories! ❤
I don't eat pork anymore. It took me a long time to figure out a good substitute for ham... Smoked turkey wings... Actually any smoked turkey, but I save the wing tips and scraps for soup... any recipe that calls for ham bone or smoked ham hocks, I now use smoked turkey. 💖🌞🌵😷
@@Snowpaux , yes! I do meatless Mondays and fish twice a week, but my body still needs meat... I think it's the saturated fat. I can go for a week or two with real low fat, but then I'm hungry all the time looking for something. One bite of a hamburger or fresh cooked chicken thigh and I'm in heaven. I'd rather have that than cake or pie! I can do grass finished beef once a month, but pork is out, it bothers my arthritis too much. Besides, I found a great turkey bacon (sam's club brand) and chicken breast is a great substitute for recipes calling for pork tenderloin or pork chops, so I'm not missing anything. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Take care of yourself and each other 😷.
We love soup ❤ Can we freeze the left overs. I can only imagine all the vitamins in this soup. I look forward to checking out your other soup recipes. Thanks for sharing👍😏
I definitely remember Anderson's Pea Soup Restaurants. Always stopped there while visiting family. But I remember it being near Kansas City. Maybe my memory is bad. Loved the soup.
Wow that looks amazingly good! I usually just cook my split peas with chicken stock and add potatoes, salt & pepper. This will be my new split pea soup recipe.
I made this last night and it tasted really good. I've learned to improvise when cooking, so with the ham I bought a quarter boneless ham at the store and used that. It came out really well but I'll need to adjust the liquid and the heat next time as it came out very watery and didn't reduce near the end.
Great recipe! I purchase ham bones from Honeybaked Ham stores specifically for soups like this one. And Andersen's still exist and they also sell their soups in cans at the store. Thanks for the recipe!
OMG, yes pea soup anderson and the windmill! It was a huge landmark in Carlsbad. I loved it so and even tho we still have the windmill, the pea soup anderson is gone and I miss it and wish I could take my kids there. You are the coolest Miss Lisa; thanks for reminiscing with me 🥰
Just like The Anderson Pea Soup Restaurant's Pea Soup we would had at the Restaurant in Mammoth Lakes, CA! Super delicious! Brought back wonderful memories. I am making this soup again tonight. I got a fresh Ham Bone from the butcher shop. Thank you!
Awe!!! Made me think of my mom! She used to make this after Easter with the left over ham bone. She’s been gone for a few years now. I’m not a big pea fan, but I might just try this recipe.
I made this soup to thank everyone at the "after moving me" party. There was one guy who came up to me and said he didn't like split pea soup. I apologize, but I was moving and had nothing else in the fridge. I told him to try it. It was really good. Later, I saw him with a second bowl or was it his third? It's worth a make. Also, plan to make ham sandwiches on the side. Really good soup and sandwich combo... That way, if you still don't like it, you won't starve! Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵. Take care of yourself 😷.
I heard the other day that the Buellton one is shutting down, at least temporarily. The Santa Nella one is supposed to be open…BTW, their soup is vegetarian…
