i have decided to just ignore and pity the plain haters, the tone deaf who think they're hearing right, and the plain unhappy people who can't hear a beautiful sound because their ears have been clogged by misery. Even with a few missed notes in an outdoor performance, this performance is still as gripping as when she is in the theater, hearing every note of the accompaniment. She's simply awesome.
Lea was performing in Bryant Park, which is outdoors and in the heart of midtown Manhattan, while Ruthie was performing in a concert hall. But I saw your other comment about Lea using facial expressions to supplement and I can agree with that.
just super talented... nothing else to say about her... just super talented... super... talented... i was immediately moved to tears... the moment she opened her mouth... i honestly had my doubts about her singing songs other than eponine ones... but i seriously hate myself now for ever doubting that he could pull it off and do even better.. the emotion.. the voice.. the expression on her face.. just super talented

I almost cried watching this! I have a really hard time singing this song and I think my voice coach is losing all patience teaching me this song. I love Lea Salonga's version and everything my coach is teaching me, I can see Lea doing it.
somewhere in those lines, im sure she did a falsetto or head voice. but it wasnt noticeable since she did it pretty well. the transition is so smoothly done. bravo lea! :)

I admit that I admire Lea and her talent. However, I also have a good ear for beautiful music. Lea's rendition is the most emotional and powerful I have ever heard of this song. She makes you feel so many emotions - innocence, love, hope, betrayal, determination, defeat and resignation. She strikes you in the heart. The quality of her voice is clear and pure and utterly pleasing to listen to. It's never nasal and irritating. Her version of this song and of On My Own are the BEST!
Lea is awesome because this recording was done probably on someone's personal camcorder, which did not allow for editing and mixing such as adjusting the sound, adding echo etc and even without the professional fixing up, she sounds great. She wasn't yelling at all.
And the princess sang the song that captivated the heartsof the young. Was she the diva in that venerable British theatre? Yes she is Lea Salonga, the girl that I watched through the years. I cried when she married her man, my tears were of joy and happiness for her. She has accomplished so much in her chosen vocation, not in 3 minutes of stage rendition but in a lifetime of courage, tolerance and love.

Correct - she wasn't off key during the last note. Her vowel was too spread on the "E" sound which will give u audibly make her "sharp" but really ... once she settled into it and u even say her mouth take different form and vibrato came in - she's right on. THE CHEST VOICE ROCKS!! Way to hit it Lea!!
She is a very versatile singer. She definitely made the song her own. SHe had put Lea's twist to it. Bravo. I cant believe she is the same singer that sang A whole New World, Mulan's reflection, Kim in Miss Saigon (original cast). All those character different style of singing. All impressive. Leah is great and incomparable. The way she enunciates and put emotion to song is really felt. :) we can never compare the video of susan singing this song to leah's because of the setting.
Lea is already a Sir Olivier and Tony Awardee. She is Miss Saigon. She is Ephonine in Les Miserable 10th Edition and then later Fantene. She is also the singing voice of Pricess Jasmine in Aladdin. We'll she's considered by critics as broadway elite. It's amusing that because of the song people start comparing her to Susan. Susan has good voice though but needs emotions.
The whole reason we love Susan is because she is an ordinary person who has not had the advantages of professional training and stage experience like the profs, nor the benefit of a proper sound system - yet she still rocked the world. It gives us all hope that we too can succeed. She was also under a time constraint - hence the missing verses. For me, the profs are so polished that they have lost the sincerity and innocence that Susan still has.
itz just you...you were dreaming, miz...lea is a flawless singer...she's never known to commit flats/ or out of tunes...good lord, this is one of the most difficult songs a singer could take on - itz an outdoor performance...a lot of crazy things goin on - but this is still for the book...
