Omg, the lyrics have me in tears. Thank you for posting this, it is incredibly beautiful. I have an Asian mother and a white dad. "Yours, half of all of this is yours . . . soon you will see the best of you and me in the smile that is shining on the face of your son . . . all our stories combining in this life we've begun." Absolutely heart breaking!
I was lucky enough to be in London at the time "Miss Saigon" was just rocketing to success, and saw the original cast with Lea Salonga and Jonathan Pryce. I've been a fan of Miss Salonga ever since. It's been interesting seing her mature as a performer over the years, much the same as her Miss Saigon character matured during the program.
Outside there is a war, In here the night is still. The jasmine buds have bloomed, The way the jasmine will. And i have given birth to a speckle of dust, To a sparkle of light To a small hint of life. Frail as a flower in the morning Is this tiny work of art When i see his face before me This is too much for one heart Here like a seedling in the garden Is a world about to start How i need you here to share it This is too much for one heart Yours, half of all of this is yours And i swear it on the moon Soon you will see, the best of you and me In the smile that is shining On the face of your son All alone in my arms i hold such beauty I want time to stop right here Make perfection last forever In which i could disappear, disappear. Yours, half of all of this is yours And now i feel you coming near Here, you will see the best of you and me For life stories combining In this life weve begun I have been living with such wonder That my soul could burst apart, Knowing soon well be together And its too much for one heart.
This is the 1st time I have heard this. And it's amazing, lyrically. I wish they would have kept it in the show as a reprise to "Please". Or split the stage, and blended both songs between the performers at the same time. They're both captivating. And Lea's wonderful.
Lea is colouring this so well and presenting it so beautifully that my eyes are watering up whenever I listen to it. As I am a parent myself I can feel every word of that song right in my heart. This song is as heartbreaking as "I'd give my life for you" and the scene when she, dying in his arms, tells Chris "The gods have guided you to your son". Lea is a goddess!
I understand why they put the song "Please" because it is really moving the story of the show. However, this song is so beautiful lyrically and could have been Kim's signature solo. They should have put both songs, with the other one as reprise. People would not mind an extra 3 minute song. I believe it would be one of the famous songs from this show.
Outside, there is a war In here the night is still The jasmine buds have bloomed The way the jasmine will And I have given birth to a speckle of dust To a sparkle of light To a small hint of life Frail as a flower in the morning Is this tiny work of art When I see his face before me This is too much for one heart Here like a seedling in a garden Is a world about to start How I need you here to share it This is too much for one heart Yours... I saw her play Kim a day before Miss Saigon closed...The best Kim EVER!! I've seen Miss Saigon 4 times and she by far owns Kim! Amazing, amazing, amazing!
Outside there is a war, in here the night is still The jasmine buds have bloomed the way the jasmine will And I have given birth to a speckle of dust, to a sparkle of light, to a small hint of life. I really love Lea! It makes me so proud to be a Filipino! I always loved Miss Saigon since I was a kid and this first came out. Thanx for uploading this.
I remember listening to this over and over again a couple years ago. Now I'm listening to it for the first time in a while and I'm like, "STILL LOVE IT!!!!""
Funny how she mentions the "jasmine buds" 'cause she was the singing voice for Jasmine in "Aladdin," though a few years after "Miss Saigon" so she couldn't have known that at the time this song was written and she originally performed it.
The first time I found out the tape and the cd will be in the market, i was at the music store very early ine the morning to get it. It is worth the waking up early lol. A very good voice from everyone who participated.
I understand how they replaced this with "Please" but this song is just so gorgeous it's sad to see it go... If anyone happens to have sheet music for this song, let me know!
I absolutely Love 'please' but Absolutly love this one just as much. Truth is it all depends on the music and the story - hence - no stage shows of predater !!
i'm surprised that this song is not on the CD with the highlights... i'm very happy to find it here. thx for posting it! i defintly will buy the double CD with all songs!
A possible part to add this song may be after the nightmare sequence to replace the sun and moon reprise. Another possible part to insert this song could be right after "Please" before the nightmare sequence. Maybe add it after the entr'acte? Wouldn't make sense with the line "knowing soon we'd be together" though.
IMHO, I like both Please and Too Much for One Heart, and think both versions should have been included in the musical. But if one had to choose, Please is the better song. There is an emotional climax achieved by the blending of Kim and John’s voices in the final stanza of Please by the unusual overlaying of melodies. The tension builds between these characters and is “resolved” in the final one, with such beauty, that it makes the song unforgettable, sets up the tragedy to come, and is the last melodic song in the musical that descends from this point on into chaos and despair. The second reason Please works better is because the audience knows something the character does not yet know--a secret John has come to tell her that will change everything. We know Kim will never realize her hope of uniting with Chris because Chris has remarried. And we also know why John cannot bring himself to break it to her, for her hope is so unexpected and powerful and beautiful that he realizes he is not the person to deliver the truth to Kim. It must come from Chris. That inner tension which comes from the audience being “in on the secret” lends the song it’s great power. In contrast, Too Much for One Heart, while equally beautiful, is more of an interlude, a mother loving her newborn and looking forward to sharing life again with her child’s father. And it lacks that second melody line in the last stanza of Please (“They don’t say in the files there’s a woman in love here”), and so ends on a calm, rather than climactic note.
love it well done lea i wish i could sing like that. iv done it in my singing lessons but it sounds nothing compared to her. shes amazing.thanks for uploading it.
Yours, half of all of of this is yours, and now I feel you coming near! Here you will see the best of you and me Both our stories combining in this life we've begun. I have been living with such wonder that my soul could burst apart! Knowing soon we'll be together it is too much for one heart! So there u have it, addaperleluvesyou and anyone else who was wondering. sorry if they're messed up andin the wrong order but those are the lyrics to the fantabulous "Too Much for One Heart"
The last showing of Miss Saigon with Lea in it was around 2001 at Manila, Philippines. I was lucky enough to watch it but a different actress was doing Kim. I was younger then so I did not appreciate the show as much as I appreciate it now. :D
Goosebumps....I did the show for 4 years and I think the way it was changed was perfect as it was. This is GORGEOUS but it doesn't move the story along as the new section did.
Yep, the song didn't make it to the play and is replaced by "Please". If you are still searching for the song, I've got an MP3 file. Send me a PM if you want it :) x
I'm really sorry that this was cut... I actully think it would add clarity to the story - I was a little confused when I first saw this show. It's a shame.
This was not included in the actual run of the show and cast recording. Lea says so on her broadway concert dvd.. Can actually hear the applause after the song.
I think this song was suppose to be in the play after she hears that Chris has come to find them, after John visits her and before she takes off to go find him herself -either before or after the dream-probably after. I love this song-wish they hadn't cut it.
Yours, half of all of this is yours and I swear upon the moon soon you will see the best of you and me in the smile that is shining on the face of your son All alone in my arms I hold such beauty, I want time to stop right here, make perfection last forever, in which I could disappear. Disappear!
this song does not appear in the australian production nor the UK production it is an extension of the song PLEASE she sings with the character John. i wish they would put it in the other productions as the melody is truly grande
your not going to find this song on any cd. She only sang it at a concert she did as a special gift for the audience...you could probably find it on one of those downloading software.
I don't remember if this is in the original london show, i will have to research it, or if i go to broadway to see lea in les mis, then i will ask her when i get her autograph again.
That is the GOAL of Shoenberg and Boublil to move and TELL the story and they realized that this track didn't really do that so they changed it. Its also a repeat of "Please" so we've already heard it. I preferred the new section that stayed and was recorded. Lea IS perfect. No one else came close although Deedee Magno, Emy Baysic and Kristin Remigio were close.
i met lea when i was 4 years old. my parents were invited to her dressing room the night before and i gave her flowers to say thank you.
Omg, the lyrics have me in tears. Thank you for posting this, it is incredibly beautiful.

you can actually feel kims innosence and the longing and the love for chris in this song... makes my heart melt. Lea is simply AMAZING.
this song encapsulates Kim's thoughts n her journey

Goosebumps! She has an angel's voice
this is a masterpiece!!!!
how could someone so sing perfectly live?!
she's not human!

Especially when you consider there are entire characters who don’t move the story. Quick tell me what chair Thuy doesn’t exist.

It's in the West End revival

She sings in such perfect pitch! Bravo!!!
This is stunning and outstanding and breathtaking all at once. Oh Lea you magnificent being!
wow, for years I've been a big fan of Miss Saigon, this is the first time I heard this song, it's amazing, it should have een on the soundtrack.
I saw her play Kim a day before Miss Saigon closed...The best Kim EVER!! I've seen Miss Saigon 4 times and she by far owns Kim! Amazing, amazing, amazing!

this is GOLD. A true masterpiece.
Her voice is breaktaking and the song wow!!!!
yup, it is live, one of her concerts here Manila
The first time I found out the tape and the cd will be in the market, i was at the music store very early ine the morning to get it. It is worth the waking up early lol. A very good voice from everyone who participated.
All I want now is a DVD record of Miss Saigon with Lea and Simon in it.
beautiful song. lea salonga really knows how to sing from the heart.
Gorgeous song, though I admit I love the way Tam is revealed during Kim's confrontation with Thuy. Glad there's a recording, thank you for sharing!
I love her voice. :)
beautiful! just beautiful!
I LOVE this song, so VERY VERY MUCH!!!
this should have made the cut, its so beautiful... makes me cry
I love this song..

Lea is still the best Miss Saigon ever.
wow..im..speechless to her voice.
The ability to sing this song so well is something that sets lea apart from most, if not all, other singers. beautiful
i'm surprised that this song is not on the CD with the highlights... i'm very happy to find it here. thx for posting it! i defintly will buy the double CD with all songs!

So beauiful. I guess they cut it and just put ''Please '' in as a duet for Kim and John instead. One of my favorite in the show to sing.
I love freakin' love Miss Saigon!! I wish I had this this song on my iPod
I agree; it's poetic and no body else can sing it like Lea does. ^^
You are right ... a wonderful song.

I know I've commented before ... but God I love this piece
I LOVE YOU LEA! I wish I could sing like you
im sooo proud to be a filipina!^^, im so inspired by leah^^,
'please' is actually my fave miss saigon song.
'Please' is sung by John and Kim. I really like this... Lea has a beautiful voice.
I hope she gets her wish (and mine) to do Eve Peron in Evita.
She has a beautiful voice.
Thank goodness for RUclips.
The song was taken out from the show. Lea performed this in her concert.
Yep, the song didn't make it to the play and is replaced by "Please". If you are still searching for the song, I've got an MP3 file. Send me a PM if you want it :)
x
When (in de musical) does she sing this song? I love it! She's great!
if you watch the "Miss Saigon - The Making" videos, this song has been sung there several times (and used as background music too).
you can find this song on Lea sings Broadway CD..and yes i do love this song too
I was thinking about that too. I don't have this on my cd either.
I'm really sorry that this was cut... I actully think it would add clarity to the story - I was a little confused when I first saw this show. It's a shame.
This was not included in the actual run of the show and cast recording. Lea says so on her broadway concert dvd.. Can actually hear the applause after the song.
It's one of those songs that were practiced but were cut for the final show
Does anyone know where I can find piano/vocal sheet music for this?
This is beautiful, but IMO it works better as a duet. Was this in the same place as "Please" before it was cut?
@tonymedenilla lol she was in miss saigon when she was 18, she's fantine in les miserables on broadway now :)
Where can I find this version of this song?
i freakin'
I love this song - can't stop playing it, here or in my mind when I am away from my computer. Anybody knows where I can get this downloaded to my mp3?
I love this song, does anybody know if there is a site that has this song available for downloading?
I think this song was suppose to be in the play after she hears that Chris has come to find them, after John visits her and before she takes off to go find him herself -either before or after the dream-probably after. I love this song-wish they hadn't cut it.
mine too! its great.
this is live??? get out of here!! no for real???? WOW!! lea really is a great singer!! makes me even more proud to be filipino
It became "Please" sung by Chris and his friend in the current productions.
Yours, half of all of this is yours and I swear upon the moon
soon you will see the best of you and me in the smile that is shining on the face of your son
All alone in my arms I hold such beauty, I want time to stop right here, make perfection last forever, in which I could disappear. Disappear!
It was replaced with "Please". Lea sang this at one of her concerts.
The production has to cut down some scenes because of the length of the show. This scene unfortunate was cut.
Lea Salonga is Kim. Kim is Lea Salonga! =)
this song does not appear in the australian production nor the UK production it is an extension of the song PLEASE she sings with the character John. i wish they would put it in the other productions as the melody is truly grande
OMG this is live version? She is unreal.
i like this song sana makaduet po kita
@Jyihomichiru It was cut from the show in workshops, but the tune became the basis for the duet between Kim and John, "Please."
same here :(
your not going to find this song on any cd. She only sang it at a concert she did as a special gift for the audience...you could probably find it on one of those downloading software.
hey whoever sent that mp3 could you esnd it to me too?
We're doing a performance of this with the official score and I have a CD recording, and neither include this song. Whatttt?????
wow
I don't remember if this is in the original london show, i will have to research it, or if i go to broadway to see lea in les mis, then i will ask her when i get her autograph again.
@SLAWVEY123 I actually don't remember this from the tour I saw. I wonder this wasn't put on the sound track?
That is the GOAL of Shoenberg and Boublil to move and TELL the story and they realized that this track didn't really do that so they changed it. Its also a repeat of "Please" so we've already heard it. I preferred the new section that stayed and was recorded.
Lea IS perfect. No one else came close although Deedee Magno, Emy Baysic and Kristin Remigio were close.
I have this sheet music, stumbled onto it by accident, lol.
Do you still want an mp3 of this song? I can get you one.
