I don't think anyone would've minded sitting an extra 4 minutes in the theater to hear this song in Miss Saigon. Instead of this, we get about 10 songs about the engineer trying to get a visa.
I think they needed a song that will make the story goes on, hence they made it a duet of Kim and John, informing Kim that Chris arrived in Thailand to see Tam.
Her voice is so angelic... no pretentious... so charming... Its so soothing to the ear!!! I always love her voice... plus shes so beautiful.... no other person in this entire universe could perfect this song the way she did... if there is... then it would be different... Thank You to all the makers of Miss Saigon for giving this role to Leah... thank you for following your heart when you get to choose her... that was such an amazing and very inspirational to all of us!!!!!
I just saw the London revival of Miss Saigon and "Please" is now called "Too Much for One Heart" and the lyrics are a mix of the two. It made me happy!
0:05-0:54.. always have been the cutest speaker i have ever seen 1:02... pristine start...crystal clear voice :) 1:36... touching ... most touching part. 1:44... the simplest hand gesture but tells how regal she is.. really adored her vocal prowess... and how she interprets any piece. love the texture of her voice.... may it be low or high notes... still the same texture... haaayy.... 3:31-- powerful!!!! i always get the goosebumps everytime i see her sing...
Outside there is a war, In here the night is still. The jasmine buds have bloomed, The way the jasmine will. And i have given birth to a speckle of dust, To a sparkle of light To a small hint of life. Frail as a flower in the morning Is this tiny work of art When i see his face before me This is too much for one heart Here like a seedling in the garden Is a world about to start How i need you here to share it This is too much for one heart Yours, half of all of this is yours And i swear it on the moon Soon you will see, the best of you and me In the smile that is shining On the face of your son All alone in my arms i hold such beauty I want time to stop right here Make perfection last forever In which i could disappear, disappear. Yours, half of all of this is yours And now i feel you coming near Here, you will see the best of you and me For life stories combining In this life weve begun I have been living with such wonder That my soul could burst apart, Knowing soon well be together And its too much for one heart.
hearing this reminds me of the time i first saw lea the first time she sang at a practice for miss saigon...the moment the first word comes out of her i was stunned
I remember listening to this song three years ago and couldn’t reach the highest note. And recently I tried to sing that song again and I finally can reach every single note
"Please" was good, but I think they could've included both as it's common to repeat themes in the score. "Please" was duet conversation explaining the details of Chris going home and coming back, whereas, "Too Much.." was more of a standalone monologue on a more grand scale than "Please."
Altered lyrics and some melodic changes to "Please". . . .This is absolutely beautiful and Lea is amazing. "Please" is my favorite melody in the show but I'm almost won over by this different rendition. Thanks so much for the post! :)
Breath taking! I wish this song had been left in the finished product. It presents a lovely portrait of what Kim was feeling at the time her son is born. In it you can see all her joy and hope.
Yours, half of all of this is yours and now i feel you coming near here, you will see the best of you and me for life stories combining in this life we’ve begun I have been living with such wonder that my soul could burst apart, knowing soon we’ll be together and it’s too much for one heart.
i love it... this was also the one sung by monique wilson in her final screening for miss saigon... lea sang id give my life for you for the final screening
Some people on here are just jealous of her talent. I've heard from people who have actually met her say that she is one of the nicest people and she just jokes a lot. She will be remembered as one of Broadway's current brightest stars as will Audra McDonald.
just listen to her sing and you'll be able to type the lyrics as she goes along.. in case you haven't noticed, her voice is crystal clear... you can discern all of the words...
All alone, in my arms, I hold is beauty I want time to stop right here Make perfection last forever In which I could disappear Disappear.. Yours, half of all of this is yours And now I feel you coming near Here you will see The best of you and me Both our stories combining In this life we began
I often find myself listening in my room to "Please" (from the Original London Cast Recording with Lea on it) and then coming here to listen to "Too Much For One Heart." I can just imagine how "in the process of putting together a show like this" as Lea said, she and the composers must've been chatting for hours trying to decide which of the two songs to go ahead and put in the production. ...Talk about a coin-flip! Wow!
Here like a seedling in the garden Is a world about to start How I need you here to share it This is too much for one heart Yours, half of all of this is yours And I swear upon the moon Soon you'll see, the best of you and me And a smile that is shining On the face of your son
the song only grow on you...keeps gettng better...anyone know where exactly in the show it was supposed to be? It reminds me of the John/Kim song Please...any clue there`?
hell yeah!.. you said it.. she's the only non-american artist to have ever declined G.W. Bush's invitation before finally performing! and she's among the few people whom Her Majesty The Queen has stood up for and applauded..
When I went to see Miss Saigon in Toronto a few weeks ago, I knew I wasn't going to hear this song. However, when I heard the melody used throughout the evening, at least I could hear most of the song with just different lyrics. I wish we could watch the whole play on youtube somehow. It's not fair that you can only hear the music live lol. You can't even hear it on the cd because they only give you selections from the musical, not everything :(
I loved this tune when I heard it on the CD (the song "Please" uses it a little) before I even heard the full song, but I love it, and of course Lea does the best rendition of it.
@isabelN12 galing lea talaga .. i love her so much... in love ako sa kanya .... in the most positive way.... haayy... proud to be a true blue filipina!!!!
I agree, they should have both been included, the only reason Please replaced instead of released alongside this is because it tells more story. But this song is beautiful.
Callum Hurley Well, you kind of just got your wish. the 2014 Too Much for One Heart is a good song since it drives the story; however, hearing Please with a couple lines from Too Much For One Heart sounds a bit odd since we are used to one or the either. However, again, the new lyrics do make sense. It's just odd to hear them blended.
Ok I know why it was cut hahaahahah this sound too modern i think?? plus it a song about kim hoping to reunite with chris :) the sun and moon reprise is much stronger in emotion of the lyrics but its too short though :)
I echo the comments of others. This theme was still in the show and was used in almost the same format in the duet with different words 'Can i end this journey please'
i agree. and Please is the most powerfull song in the show...Inever understood the musical and the choices when i first heard the danish cd (not full version) but ass soon as i heard please and room 317 it all made sense...
Actually, "Please" replaced this song, and that is an incredible song between John and Kim. PS, I also love the Engineer, I'm glad he had a larger part.
Can't figure out why anyone would decide to cut this out of the show ... anyway, I wasn't so lucky as to ever see Lea perform in Miss Saigon (I only got to go when I ended up in London for school in 1996 (and immediately took advantage to go see M.S.!!) still to me she just is the quintessential Kim (I had been playing the cd, with Lea singing the lead, over and over for six years by the time I actually saw the show) and this song and Lea's performance of it just mesmerizes !!!
Thank Jonathan Pryce. You know HE got the final bow at curtain call, NOT Lea? He was the big name in the show, so he gets an 8 minute number that no one remembers.
The melody of this is actual the same as the song "Please" from the soundtrack- the duet between Kim and John. Well, pretty similar to it but I agree-- I love this song! I wish it wasn't cut!
let me help you out.. Outside there is a war, In here the night is still, The jasmin buds have bloomed the way a jasmin will ....to a small hint of life.
@hollysdad Anent to the comment I just made, the fact that Lea did this concert in the Phils adds credence to my explanation. She was home in Manila&was with an audience w/a similar cultural background. There was therefore a tacit understanding between performer and audience. The language used is English, but the cultural undertones are not necessarily Western.I know it's moot by now,but I still wish that given this perspective,we could promote better understanding. She is a great talent after all.
too much for one heart was for Kim to express about how tam reminds her of chris and how she would wanna share such beauty with chris and not be sad about the incident. this melody was originally composed for this song and not for "please". the composers usually take melodies from a full song like "too much for one heart" for conversations like "please". just like "on my own" and "come to me" of les miz and the like.
I wonder whether this would have been before or after the scene with Thuy's death? [Back in Town/ You Will Not Touch Him/ This is the Hour, This is Our Land] because it seems important that we don't know about Tam until she tells Thuy, but then, afterwards it would be so close to 'I'd Give My Life For You.' Perhaps I have just discovered why it was cut...
I agree with you that it's a shame this song got cut; but if you're familiar with the song which made it into the production instead, titled "Please," you might understand/sympathize how torn the crew must have been, deciding which one to use and which one to cut. (I love this one AND I love "Please," so I'm glad the decision wasn't mine to make.)

lincolnlobster HAHHAHA LITERALLY

I'm not surprised they relieved the song on the revival. It's too beautiful to pass it for the 2nd time
2019 and still watching well watching all the possible videos of Lea uploaded here in yt... All time favorite artist ❤️👑
it breaks my heart that this song was cut out of the musical
0:05-0:54.. always have been the cutest speaker i have ever seen

I have been living with such wonder

this song is fantastic... i've been looking for it since seeing it in the production video.
thanks for posting it dude =)
I love this song...Lea's voice is so beautiful and sweet!
This is a wonderful song. Can't stop listening to it. *sigh* I am simply amazed. I love Lea!!!
hearing this reminds me of the time i first saw lea the first time she sang at a practice for miss saigon...the moment the first word comes out of her i was stunned
I remember listening to this song three years ago and couldn’t reach the highest note. And recently I tried to sing that song again and I finally can reach every single note
I love this song.....lea's voice is soo beautiful...perfection
Truth be told!
this song is amazing...specially with leas voice..it takes my breath away...
always get goosebumps when I hear her sing this. this song captures the feeling of being a parent.
Wow, what a voice, and equally amazing diction. She is truly phenomenal!!! God has really blessed her with an amazing instrument!!!!
I got goosebumps listening to this. Her voice and expression are amazing. Thanks so much for sharing.
"Please" was good, but I think they could've included both as it's common to repeat themes in the score. "Please" was duet conversation explaining the details of Chris going home and coming back, whereas, "Too Much.." was more of a standalone monologue on a more grand scale than "Please."
i love this song, her voice is amazing.
lea...you are EVERYTHING i aspire to be. never stop! :)
This is such a beautiful song...with lea as the interpreter, what more can I ask...sooo cool!!!
Yes, that was in Lea Salonga: The Broadway Concert
Altered lyrics and some melodic changes to "Please". . . .This is absolutely beautiful and Lea is amazing. "Please" is my favorite melody in the show but I'm almost won over by this different rendition. Thanks so much for the post! :)
This is the best recorded version of the song
She is my idol of broadway!!!!!! her voice so amazing and versatile!!!!! I LOVE HER!!!!!!!!
Beautiful! Didn't know this song existed. Thannk you for posting it.

oh my gosh i want to cry, shes so freaking awesome
Omg, this song made a perfection.. it al so make me cry.. Lea is soo amazing.. I wish I could see her just once
i've searched this song for long finally i've found it. this deserves a good place in an opera.
I believe this is the best song in Miss Saigon, it is very powerful, just as the rest of the songs, but being a mother its the most beautiful. Kudos!
just amazing!!!! i love this song!!
Breath taking! I wish this song had been left in the finished product. It presents a lovely portrait of what Kim was feeling at the time her son is born. In it you can see all her joy and hope.
Emotion, amazing feeling, overwhelming and that's just me after listening to it! So sad! I love Lea. I so want to sing with her!!!!!
you were so lucky. I saw it about 6 months after it started, and it was an amazing show
cefcute,

Truly the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
Yours, half of all of this is yours and now i feel you coming near here, you will see the best of you and me for life stories combining in this life we’ve begun I have been living with such wonder that my soul could burst apart, knowing soon we’ll be together and it’s too much for one heart.
She is soo beautiful. I love this song now
great voice!
i love it... this was also the one sung by monique wilson in her final screening for miss saigon... lea sang id give my life for you for the final screening
Incredibly moving song! Her voice is impeccable.
Some people on here are just jealous of her talent. I've heard from people who have actually met her say that she is one of the nicest people and she just jokes a lot. She will be remembered as one of Broadway's current brightest stars as will Audra McDonald.
I meant to say modern Broadway stars
Oh my favorite!
amazing song. amazing voice.
i love lea so much :)
Unbelievable performance of an incredible song.
She looks much more beautiful now than when she was 15. Great song and voice!
just listen to her sing and you'll be able to type the lyrics as she goes along.. in case you haven't noticed, her voice is crystal clear... you can discern all of the words...
THE BEST OF THE BEST!
Lea is absolutly beautiful!
hehehehe meron ako cassette tape ng concert na to.. as in ung magnetc tape pa...
how i love this gal..
shes an amazing singer!!!!!!!!
I love this song.
this is the song "Please" from Miss Saigon, which is a duet with Kim and John, and different lyrics.
this song needs to be fully reinstated as this i KIm's total journey encapsulated and it is NOT boring
shes so beautiful
I'm surprised this got shelved in the first place. It's spectacular. And while Miss Saigon has some great songs it also has a couple of stinkers.
GOD! She's really amazing! Makes me so proud to be Pinoy! I really love that song, it always makes me cry.
All alone, in my arms, I hold is beauty
I want time to stop right here
Make perfection last forever
In which I could disappear
Disappear..
Yours, half of all of this is yours
And now I feel you coming near
Here you will see
The best of you and me
Both our stories combining
In this life we began
I love her.

@lvan025 but, teh differnece mainly are the lyrics, the musical theme is the same, no?
thats the voice that can truly move a mountain

definition of chills: 2:30
Cheers!!!
I NEED this song! It is so beautiful T_T Lea Salonga R-O-C-K-S.
Anyone know where I can find the sheet music for this?
I was just wondering where I'd heard this as I seemed to know it, but you answered my question before I asked it lol

Hi, Cefcute, is this video from a DVD? It is super clear. Where can I pursche it? Thanks

Oh God, after 15 years, I read your comment. Maybe you still can get a digital copy from Amazon. Hope my answer is not useless. Sorry...

Chills.
