Hugh Jackman, Academy Award® winner Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway star in this critically-acclaimed adaptation of the epic musical phenomenon. Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells the story of ex-prisoner Jean Valjean (Jackman), hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe), after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever. This enthralling story is a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit and “an unforgettable experience” (Richard Roeper, RichardRoeper.com).

It's weird seeing Wolverine and the Gladiator have a singing competition.
Aka Wolverine and Zeus
I just realized that the guy who plays the bishop is the one who played Jean Valjean in the 10th anniversary.
Nah mate he’s the OG valjean, Colm Wilkinson
And, he also played The Phantom of the Opera for many years at The Pantages Theater in Toronto. Also, as Rocal said, he played Valjean on Broadway for a very long time. One of the very best, a true O.G.
@@rorcal7203 Not the first ever Valjean 'cuz one dude in France performed as Valjean at the Palais des Sports in Paris in the year 1980. Colm was one o' the first English speakin' Valjeans since 1985 West End. The musical's long journey (based on the novel) started w/ its first performance at the Palais des Sports AND the French language concept album in 1980. So Colm wasn't the first Jean Valjean, but he was one o' the most iconic Valjeans.
@@truelionofhylia8152 well, the original english version of les mis then
He also played wolverine
"We were starving!"
"You will starve again!"
"LOL!"
"LOL!"
AND I'M JAVERT!
Now THIS is how you start a film!
I LOVE THIS OPENING SO MUCH!!!!
except that this opening, while harmonically beautiful was not faithful to the script
@@siomhe8539 except that, despite that, I still love this opening so much
tl;dr no one cares and Im not watching the version thats older than my parents.
I knew the stage showed the galley, which was inaccurate and had only meanings for the punishment.
But 2012 film showed the accurate method of how thy treating prisoners, since there was no rowing galley ships at that time.
Still I prefer the stages but the film's Visual Effect was great.
The opening of the film is great-one of the best film openings.
Watch more films, please
@@KarlFrajja Okay rookie.
@@Zhm6802 😂
@@KarlFrajja He took your advice without hesitation or anger. How can you have the right to mock them for being so loyal and kind? Says a lot about you.
Except for the dreadful singing.
The musical cue as he lifts the flag is great!
"And I'm Javert!"
Do not forget my name,24601😂😂😂😂.
"What a shame I can't sing!"
“Get me a SANDWICH!!”
@@70snostalgia He can sing. He's been directed to place his voice further back to contrast with Jackman's forward placement. It's a comment about integrity and is employed by the director to trigger us. It's a brilliant choice. The fact Crowe can and did do it as directed is a demonstration of his ability, his integrity, and his professionalism. That's what sux about being a truly talented and well trained actor: If you do your job with love and integrity you often go unrecognized. Your only consolation is rededication to your craft. How much it must suck to be so famous and yet unsung for your real achievements--chiefest of which is voluntarily placing oneself under others and in the public eye. I couldn't do it. I doubt anyone commenting here could.
But here's the real Mind Eff of it: In filmmaking and celebrity there's no such thing as bad press.
@@ImogenC-rt3fm No offence but forward or back, to the side of Jackman, behind him, up his butt, wherever his voice is "placed", it's a quarter-tone flat, utterly without tone and similar to listening to a ruptured moose whose insurance just got cancelled.
I am very grateful for this film. He made me overcome my prejudice towards music movies.
bro you gotta watch the stage version, literally the movie but just like a good 3 times better. also the Chicago movie is probably the best movie musicals out there
@@morgdaforg If I go to the US one day i will definitely watch it, thanks for the suggestion. And about Chicago my friend... WHAT A MOVIE!
@@designbookInc for real. i recently played Amos in a production of Chicago, by far the most fun I've had performing a musical, and theres so many productions of les mis all around the world. i dont believe it has a longterm home in the US, youre better off going to see it on the West End in London.
I watch/listen to this whenever I am angry at my managers at work.
😅
The more I think about it, Les Mis might be the single best work of fiction that represents what Christianity is all about
The laws of man representing shame and punishment, while the laws of god are meant to show compassion and mercy? I can see that.
I could see and argument for Tolkein but yes i agree, Les Mes is pure
C.S. Lewis?
@@willchitty1826 screwtape letters is excellent👊🏻 Narnia is a bit much though imo
@@itsallgoodman4108 Narnia (at least TLTWTW) potentially the best work of fiction that represents the gospel tho no?
We saw this movie when it first came out and we were so impressed we went back and saw it again.
We saw the stage version a few years ago and we have tickets to see it again next year.
The story was so powerful I bought the book and read it too.
My parents are taking me to see the stage show for my birthday and I am so excited. And I was so thankful for the first time in my life that I grew up in Québec, because I could read the book in the original French.
¿Que te parecio el libro?
Wait, where is it touring!? I want 2024 tickets so badly but i can't find anything in my local area.
@markkelly6305 I'm seeing it in Montréal where I live, but on their official site, they have tour dates. It's the first time they're back in my area in 8 years, so I got lucky.
@@markkelly6305 I Googled Les Miserables tour to find the dates.
Russell Crowe's singing wasn't that bad, in my opinion, he actually has a music background in real life.
Chad Kroger has a musical background, too. Does that mean he can sing?
@@HBarnill Like it or not, yes, he technically can.
Seen Russel Crowe saying they didn’t sing the parts
Not in Musical Theatre. Until he went through the process of four different vocal teachers (you should only see one.) and singing for over 10 hours. It’s not his fault, but the singing is bad.
j'ai vu Russel Crow dire qu'il n'avait pas chanté les parties❤

A beautiful movie worth watching alikd
A wonderful and very well done film that I enjoyed watching
Lotta ill informed comments here. The singing was filmed live on the day, not voiced over. This was as close to a filmed live musical as any of us will see. The only caveat is they were afforded multiple takes. Sure, lotta press around this "fact"... and lotta mixing to do to mix out ambient sound. But this production had a lot of integrity. And hey, haters: Crowe can effing SING! The rough edges here are intentional, the artists' choices. That's what makes this an important and undersung production.
Crowe can sing, but he couldnt sing Javert. thats the issue. get someone who can actually sing the part well, cast from the stage show, get norm lewis or phillip quast or something idk
@@morgdaforgHe was directed to sing this way. In order to highlight Jackman's delivery. If you listen carefully you'll notice Jackman's voice and delivery are deliberately cleaner, more obviously "trained"--dumbass suited to the character. Likewise Crowe's rough edges. Dramatic, directed and rehearsed choices both. Good guy-Bad guy="good voice - bad voice."
Undersung cinematography, too. To have worked so faithfully and to be so blandly received. This was a tragically unsung film. GOOD WORK ALL! Thank you.
A more than wonderful movie
